Summary The stratum radiatum of h
3 and h
4 in the hippocampus of the rahbit, where the mossy fiber endings are distributed, was investigated under the electron microscope. These regions contain a certain number of electron dense presynaptic endings. These are characterized by highly dense synaptic vesicles and mitochondrial matrices. The dense endings are not considered as degenerated. Electron dense silver particles, substituted for zinc, occurred on the synaptic vesicles of these dense terminals as well as the mossy fiber endings after the application of Timm's histochemical method modified for electron microscopy. It is concluded that the dark synaptic endings observed might represent mossy fiber terminals in a special functional phase, or might be the result of structural alteration in the course of tissue preparation. The zinc localized in the synaptic vesicles is thought to be associated with the neurotransmitter present in these endings. 相似文献

Effect of pre-irradiation administration of different doses of RH-3, the herbal preparation of an Indian medicinal plant Hippophae rhamnoides, 30 min before 10 Gy whole body gamma irradiation was studied. Doses between 25 to 35 mg/kg body wt. were found to render > 80 % survival in mice. In order to investigate whether RH-3 protected against radiation induced genotoxicity, mice were administered different doses of RH-3, 30 min before 2 Gy dose and compared with untreated, RH-3 treated and irradiated controls. The bone marrow cells were collected at different time intervals following various treatments and processed for scoring micronuclei (MN). Administration of RH-3 alone did not enhance the MN frequency as compared to the control, and radiation dose of 2 Gy significantly enhanced the MN frequency (3.1 %, P < 0.01). Pre-irradiation treatment with RH-3, however, reduced the radiation induced MN frequency in a drug dose dependent manner suggesting its radioprotective efficacy. The protective effect of RH-3 on radiation induced perturbations in cell cycle progression was studied flowcytometrically in mouse bone marrow cells. RH-3 treatment (30 mg/kg body wt.) enhanced DNA synthesis (S-phase) in unirradiated controls and also countered radiation induced depression of S-phase to facilitate replenishment of cells lost due to radiation injury. 相似文献

Summary In the albino rabbit the sclera is composed of (a) collagen fibrils arranged in fibers, (b) interposed elastic fibers and (c) fibroblasts. The diameter of collagen fibrils and fibers increases from the internal toward the external surface of the sclera. In the same direction the number of elastic fibers and fibroblasts decreases. A peculiar structure is found in the rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum of the fibroblasts in the innermost portions of the sclera. Summary The ultrastructure of normal neural lobes of adult rabbits is described. The major part consists of non-myelinated fibres containing neural swellings at intervals. These enclose the neurosecretory granules, mitochondria and a few microtubules. The swellings are connected by narrow nerve fibres with parallel neurotubules but no granules. The Herring bodies resemble large neural swellings and may contain many neurotubules. They are sometimes enclosed by multilamellate sheaths. True myelinated nerve fibres full of granules also occur. The relationship between the neural swellings and pituicytes is discussed. The pituicyte cytoplasm contains many delicate fibrils but it does not resemble an active secretory cell.The blood vessels are characterised by an unusually wide perivascular space containing two condensed layers of basement membrane. These layers can be traced into channels which extend from the perivascular spaces and break up the tissue into lobules. It is suggested that these channels form a mucopolysaccharide spongework that may be important in relation to the release of hormones.The common feature of ether-treated, dehydrated and immature animals is the absence of electron-dense cores from the neurosecretory granules. Such glands are not completely depleted of hormones and much of the hormonal activity is still associated with a sedimentable fraction. Loss of electron density may be due to diffusion of the neurophysin carrier or to a change in configuration of the neurophysin molecules resulting in inaccessibility of both osmiophilic and hormone binding sites. The postnatal development of the cranial vault is reviewed with special emphasis upon the rabbit in respect to longitudinal, volumetric, and kinematic growth. Also, the calvarial growth relative to long bone growth is discussed. The cranial vault suture is a multifunctional syndesmosis with variable structure and a rich variability of local behavior. 相似文献

Summary Different staining procedures, various digestion methods and autoradiographic techniques were employed to study the structure and composition of the nucleolus and of the nucleolonema, after unmasking the latter by adenosine treatment. The presence of DNA, RNA, protein and lipid in these structures has been shown. It has been demonstrated that the filamentous structure within the nucleolus — the nucleolonema— has a core of DNA, around which RNA and protein have accumulated. The structure of the nucleolonema suggests that it is in a highly active state, in synthesizing ribosomal RNA and protein.We take the opportunity to express our gratefulness to the Director, Prof. Dr. Hans Lettré, for providing facilities to work in this Institute. The hexokinase isozymic pattern of circulating reticulocytes fractionated by density gradient ultracentrifugation was studied. All the cellular fractions obtained show similar ratio of hexokinase Ia/hexokinase Ib while a four fold decay in specific activity was evidenced. Bone-marrow cells of anemic rabbits also contain low amounts of HK Ib while this isozymic form is not present in basophilic erythroblasts. 相似文献
