In this paper, a rough silver core-shell nanoparticle with strong electric field enhancement in the vicinity of a bumpy structure on the silver core-shell surface is reported. A dipolar plasmonic mode of the silver nanoshell is investigated by using the quasi-static approach and plasmon hybridization theory, which analytical results identify the electric field enhancement spectra in which the enhancement is optimized. As the silver shell thickness is small, the hot spots play an important role in the plasmonic field enhancement. In addition, the deposition of a rough silver shell can generate a stronger near-field enhancement near the silver surface which is more desirable than that of a smooth silver shell for sensitive detection based on SPR and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The plasmonic field enhancement of a bumpy silver core-shell nanoparticle permits the detection and characterization of bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein molecule and hemoglobin solution with a high sensitivity.  相似文献

Strong local electromagnetic (EM) fields and efficient EM energy transport in metallic nanostructures are two important issues in their applications in quantum computations/communications. We investigate the propagation characteristics of the hotspots in one-dimensional silver nanoparticle dimer chains, which combine the functions of the gap field enhancement and the waveguide. The near field and the far field induced interplay among the local field enhancement, the radiative interaction, and the dissipation affects significantly the EM field transport efficiency. Moreover, the correlation between local structure and global structure leads to the structure-dependent excitation. With the help of the combined effects of the structure-dependent excitation, the field confinement and the propagation, the efficient EM field excitation, and long-range propagation can be obtained by tuning the structure of our systems. With suitable geometric parameters (dimer orientations, dimer gap sizes) of our system, the electric field intensity at the position 5000 nm away from the starting point (exciting point) is about 50 times of the corresponding field intensity in a silver nanoparticle chain.

To form silver nanoparticles by reduction from metal ions in the presence of a reducing agent, D-glucose, a water-soluble derivative of chitosan, succinyl-chitosan, was used as a polymer matrix at room temperature. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles can also be carried out without a reducing agent by thermal activation of the system using an alkali (NaOH) as an accelerator. The presence of silver nanoparticles in the obtained colloidal solutions was judged by the appearance of an absorption band in the electron plasmon resonance spectra (?max = 417 nm). It has been shown that the use of an additional component, polyethylene oxide, in a macromolecular system makes it possible to obtain small silver nanoparticles (1–3 nm). The results of in vitro studies of the antimicrobial activity of the obtained colloidal solutions containing silver nanoparticles confirm that a decrease in the size of silver nanoparticles leads to an expansion of the spectrum of antibacterial activity of strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (B. subtilis ATCC 6633, S. aureus 209P, E. coli ATCC 25922) and to the manifestation of a pronounced antifungal action in relation to A. niger INA 00760.

The present work reports an investigation of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of silver nanoparticles in SiO2–TiO2 hosts. The surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles was observed in the wavelength range 300–400 nm. Numerical calculation of SPR of silver nanoparticles with spherical morphology was done on the basis of discrete dipole approximation (DDA) method. The observed fluorescence spectrum fits well with the theoretically calculated one. The luminescence enhancement is attributed to the strong local electric field which increases the exciting and emitting photons coupled to SPR. An effort has been made to study the surface plasmon mediated excitation energy transfer (EET) between two spherical metal nanoparticles. The van der Waals (vdW) energy between plasmonic silver nanoparticles in the present hosts has been estimated.  相似文献

In this study, biosynthesis of stable silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were prepared using Mukia madarasapattana leaf extract. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the synthesized silver nanoparticles had face centered cubic crystalline structure. The TEM image showed the silver nanoparticles are not agglomerated, moderately mono dispersed with the size of 15 nm. The high negative zeta potential values indicated the dispersion stability of Ag NPs. Antibacterial activity was carried out against different test microorganisms in silver nanoparticles. The cyclic Voltammetry study showed that Ag NPs have an oxidation peak at 0.61 mV.

A facile, straightforward, and low-cost method is proposed to synthesize gold@silver@gold core double-shell nanoparticles. The technique is a seed-mediated growth protocol that contains four steps of (1) gold seed synthesis, (2) gold seed growth, (3) silver layer coating through silver salt reduction, and (4) gold layer deposition via gold precursor reduction. The prepared nanoparticles had a narrow size distribution and the average particle size of 28 ± 1 nm. Cysteine was introduced to the nanoparticles solution as a coupling agent to assemble nanoparticles. Aggregation-induced two-photon photoluminescence enhancement of three types assembled nanoparticles, i.e., gold@silver@gold, gold@silver, and gold nanoparticles, was studied. It was observed that the assembled core double-shell nanoparticles presented huge enhancement in two-photon photoluminescence signal in comparison with two other nanoparticles. Moreover, the gold@silver@gold nanoparticle is a stable and biocompatible plasmonic nanosystem. This paper provides a novel candidate for two-photon photoluminescence excitation sensing and imaging for biomedical applications.

Plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) like silver (Ag) strongly absorb the incident light and produce enhanced localized electric field at the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) frequency. Enormous theoretical and experimental research has focused on the plasmonic properties of the metallic nanoparticles with sizes greater than 10 nm. However, such studies on smaller sized NPs in the size range of 3 to 10 nm (quantum-sized regime) are sparse. In this size regime, the conduction band of the metal particles discretizes, thus altering plasmon properties of the NPs from classical to the quantum regime. In this study, plasmonic properties of the spherical Ag NPs in size range of 3 to 20 nm were investigated using both quantum and classical modeling to understand the importance of invoking quantum regime to accurately describing their properties in this size regime. Theoretical calculations using standard Mie theory were carried out to monitor the LSPR peak shift and electric field enhancement as a function of the size of the bare plasmonic nanoparticle and the refractive index (RI) of the surrounding medium. Comparisons were made with and without invoking quantum regime. Also, the optical properties of metallic NPs conjugated with a chemical ligand using multi-layered Mie theory were studied, and interesting trends were observed.

The presence of a surrounding medium strongly affects the spectral properties of localized surface plasmons at metallic nanoparticles. Vice versa, plasmonic resonances have large impact on the electric polarization in a surrounding or supporting material. For applications, e.g., in light-converting devices, the coupling of localized surface plasmons with polarizations in semiconducting substrates is of particular importance. Using photoemission electron microscopy with tunable laser excitation, we perform single-particle spectroscopy of silver nanoclusters directly grown on Si(100). Two distinct localized surface plasmon modes are observed as resonances in the two-photon photoemission signals from individual silver clusters. The strengths of these resonances strongly depend on the polarization of the exciting electric field, which allows us to assign them to plasmon modes with polarizations parallel and perpendicular, respectively, to the supporting silicon substrate. Our mode assignment is supported by simulations which provide insight into the mutual interaction of charge oscillations at the particle surface with electric polarizations at the silver/silicon interface.

Characteristics of a positive transient corona discharge near the tip of a tall solitary grounded object in the electric field of a thundercloud are studied analytically and numerically. The time evolution of the discharge current and the space distribution of the total electric field are simulated for different growth rates of the external field and the dimensions and geometry of the stressed electrode. The effect of aerosol ions is shown to be negligible at a short duration of the corona. The developed simplified analytical approach agrees with numerical simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, we highlight the formation of Ag/Au core-shell nanoparticles at room temperature by using a low-power laser. We have investigated the plasmon-induced reduction of Ag+ ions on bare Au nanoparticles synthesized by laser ablation technique, and citrate-capped Au nanoparticles synthesized by chemical method. It is demonstrated that citrate plays an important role for the reduction of silver ions. The citrate gets oxidized by the ‘hot’ holes produced due to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of the Au nanoparticles which then reduces the Ag+ ions to Ag. The importance of excitation laser wavelength is also demonstrated to facilitate the reduction process.

The goal of this study was the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (SNPs) mediated by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum, as well as the characterization of these nanoparticles including evaluation of the particles size and stability under different processing conditions. The results showed that the biosynthesis produced silver nanoparticles having a mean size of 34 nm and zeta potential values below −30 mV at the conditions used, characterizing the nanoparticles as being stable in suspension. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy and flame atomic absorption spectroscopy confirmed the formation of silver nanoparticles and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy detected the bands corresponding to the binding vibration of amide I and II bands of proteins in addition to the presence of cyclic alkanes, cyclohexane, ethers, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Finally, field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy revealed the formation of spherical and well-dispersed SNPs.

Scutellaria barbata is a perennial herb which was vastly prescribed in Chinese medicine to treat inflammations, infections and it is also used a detoxifying agent. We synthesized silver nanoparticles with Scutellaria barbata extract and characterized the nanoparticles with UV–Vis spectroscopic analysis, TEM, AFM, FTIR and XRD. The biofilm inhibiting property of synthesized silver nanoparticles were examined with XTT reduction assay and the antimicrobial property was examined with well diffusion method. The silver nanoparticles were also coated with cotton fabrics and their efficacy against antimicrobials was analyzed to prove its application. The cytotoxic property of synthesized silver nanoparticles was examined with L929 fibroblast cells using MTT assay. Finally we analyzed the wound healing property of synthesized silver nanoparticles with wound scratch assay. The result of our UV–Vis spectroscopic analysis confirms Scutellaria barbata aqueous extract reduced silver ions and synthesized silver nanoparticles. The characterization studies TEM, AFM, FTIR and XRD confirms the synthesized silver nanoparticles are in ideal shape and size to be utilized as a drug. The XTT reduction assay proves silver nanoparticles effectively inhibits the biofilm formation in both resistant and sensitive strains. Antimicrobial sensitivity tests confirms synthesized silver nanoparticles and cotton coated synthesized silver nanoparticles both are effective against gram positive, gram negative and fungal species. Further the results of MTT assay confirms the synthesized silver nanoparticles are non toxic and finally the wound healing potency of the nanoparticles was confirmed with wound scratch assay. Over all our results authentically confirms the silver nanoparticles synthesized with Scutellaria barbata aqueous extract is potent wound healing drug.  相似文献

The surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-induced local field effect in Al-Au-Ag trimetallic three-layered nanoshells has been studied theoretically. Because of having three kinds of metal, three plasmonic bands have been observed in the absorption spectra and the local electric field factor spectra. The local electric field enhancement and the corresponding resonance wavelength for different plasmon coupling modes and spatial positions of the Al-Au-Ag nanoshells with various geometry dimensions are investigated to find the maximum local electric field enhancement. The calculation results indicate that the giant local electric field enhancement could be stimulated by the plasmon coupling in the middle Au shell or the outer Ag shell and could be optimized by increasing the Ag shell thickness and decreasing the Au shell thickness. What is more, the local electric field enhancement also nonmonotonously depends on the dielectric constant of the environment; the local electric field intensity will be weakened when the surrounding dielectric constant is too small or too large.

This protocol describes the dynamic measurement of chloride ions using the transition time of a silver silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) electrode. Silver silver chloride electrode is used extensively for potentiometric measurement of chloride ions concentration in electrolyte. In this measurement, long-term and continuous monitoring is limited due to the inherent drift and the requirement of a stable reference electrode. We utilized the chronopotentiometric approach to minimize drift and avoid the use of a conventional reference electrode. A galvanostatic pulse is applied to an Ag/AgCl electrode which initiates a faradic reaction depleting the Clˉ ions near the electrode surface. The transition time, which is the time to completely deplete the ions near the electrode surface, is a function of the ion concentration, given by the Nernst equation. The square root of the transition time is in linear relation to the chloride ion concentration. Drift of the response over two weeks is negligible (59 µM/day) when measuring 1 mM [Clˉ]using a current pulse of 10 Am-2. This is a dynamic measurement where the moment of transition time determines the response and thus is independent of the absolute potential. Any metal wire can be used as a pseudo-reference electrode, making this approach feasible for long-term measurement inside concrete structures.  相似文献

Space charges (air ions) produced by a single point-to-plane corona electrode system were used to study the enhancement in the evaporation rates of water at three ion current levels. The maximum evaporation rates of 0.019 and 0.017 g·min?1 were observed at a 1 cm electrode gap for negative and positive air ions, respectively. The cumulative evaporation rates were linear with time and an ion-enhanced rate was about 4 times greater than the control. The current density distribution measurements agreed fairly well with those predicted from the Warburg law. The principal driving force for the observed evaporation enhancement was an ion drag phenomenon which created vortex motions in water when air ions were subjected to an externally applied electric field. Theoretical considerations from derived relationships in fluid mechanics demonstrate that the mass transfer coefficient is higher for positive than negative ions of the same current strength because of the mobility difference between the charges in the medium.  相似文献

To clarify tthe mechanism by which local application of silver compounds protects burns against infection, an ion-specific electrode was used to measùre the concentration of silver ions in solutions. By this method it was shown that in burn dressings silver ions were reduced to a very low level by precipitation as silver chloride. The antibacterial effect was found to depend on the availability of silver ions from solution in contact with precipitate. Between 10-5 and 10-6 molar silver nitrate solution in water was rapidly bactericidal. The minimal amount of silver nitrate causing inhibition of respiration of skin in tissue culture was about 25 times the minimal concentration of silver nitrate that inhibited growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.  相似文献

This review contains the results of experimental studies of recent years dedicated to the resistance of bacteria to the action of nanosized silver and describes the putative molecular mechanisms of its development. Emphasis is placed on the study of works devoted to the investigation of the mechanisms of the resistance of bacteria to silver ions, which are the main factor of the bactericidal action of nanoparticles. The review also contains suggestions for further research aimed at developing of ways to overcome the problem of resistance of individual bacterial strains to the action of nanosilver and methods preventing its further spread.

We demonstrate the optical response of metal nanoparticles and their interaction with organic-inorganic perovskite (methyl ammonia lead halide (CH3NH3PbI3)) environment using discrete dipole approximation (DDA) simulation technique. Important optical properties like absorption, scattering, and electric field calculations for metal nanoparticle using different geometry have been analyzed. The metal nanoparticles embedded in the perovskite media strongly support surface plasmon resonances (SPRs). The plasmonic interaction of metal nanoparticles with perovskite matrix is a strong function of MNP’s shape, size, and surrounding environment that can manipulate the optical properties considerably. The cylindrical shape of MNPs embedded in perovskite environment supports the SPR which is highly tunable to subwavelength range of 400–800 nm. Wide range of particle sizes has been selected for Ag, Au, and Al spherical and cylindrical nanostructures surrounded by perovskite matrix for simulation. The chosen hybrid material and anisotropy of structure together make a complex function for resonance shape and width. Among all MNPs, 70-nm spherical silver nanoparticle (NP) and cylindrical Ag NP having diameter of 50 nm and length of 70 nm (aspect ratio 1.4) generate strong electric field intensity that facilitates increased photon absorption. The plasmonic perovskite interaction plays an important role to improve the absorption of photon inside the thin film perovskite environment that may be applicable to photovoltaics and photonics.

Pulse-periodic corona discharge in atmospheric air excited by applying a voltage pulse with a subnanosecond or microsecond rise time to a point electrode is studied experimentally. It is shown that, at a voltage rise rate of dU/dt ~1014 V/s, positive and negative ball-shaped streamers with a front velocity of ≥2 mm/ns form near the point electrode. As dU/dt is reduced to 1010?1011 V/s, the streamer shape changes and becomes close to cylindrical. The propagation velocity of cylindrical streamers is found to be ~0.1 mm/ns at dU/dt ~ 2 × 1010 V/s. It is shown that the propagation direction of a cylindrical streamer can be changed by tilting the point electrode, on the axis of which the electric field strength reaches its maximum value. It is established that, for the negative polarity of the point electrode and a microsecond rise time of the voltage pulse, a higher voltage is required to form a cylindrical streamer than for the positive polarity of the point electrode.  相似文献
