Petrocosmea chrysotricha M.Q.Han, H. Jiang & Yan Liu, a new species from Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. Petrocosmea chrysotricha was found growing with P. melanophthalma on damp marlstone cliffs in evergreen broad‐leaved forest on Mopan Shan. The new species has been grown for decades by Gesneriad enthusiasts under the name P. begoniifolia for decades and it is indeed similar to P. begoniifolia in its oblique campanulate corolla tube, but differs by having filaments covered with golden lanate indumentum in the middle part and by having primrose yellow flowers at the beginning if anthesis, then turning white.  相似文献

Salvia petrophila G. X. Hu, E. D. Liu & Yan Liu, a new species from the Chinese provinces of north Guangxi and south Guizhou, is described and illustrated. The new species is similar to S. miltiorrhiza, but can easily be distinguished by its shorter, unbranched stem, subsucculent simple leaf, longer pedicel and corolla tube, oblong‐entire middle lobe of lower corolla lip and larger oblate pollen. It is included in S. sect. Drymosphace on the basis of its falcate‐compressed upper corolla lip and connivent posterior connectives. Trichome and pollen micromorphology of the new species and similar species are described and compared. Additionally, assessment of the conservation status, current geographical distribution and notes on ecology of the new species are given.  相似文献

Six native species of Pedicularis in Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State were studied for their reproductive relationships with animal pollinators. Cinematographic and stereophotographic records revealed pollination of the nectariferous P. bracteosa and P. rainierensis by upright, nectar-foraging queens and workers of five bumblebee (Bombus Latr.) species and by inverted workers scraping pollen from anthers concealed within the corolla galea. The nectarless, rostrate flowers of P. contorta, P. groenlandica, P. ornithorhyncha, and P. racemosa were pollinated by pollen-foraging workers and occasional queens virbrating pollen from concealed anthers. Insect exclosure methods revealed complete absence of fruiting in the absence of insects, and pollinator collections further indicate obligate dependence of the plants upon bumblebees for their sexual reproduction. Analysis of corbicular pollen loads from pollinators suggested that pollinator species are not monolectic but that individual pollinators range from monolectic to polylectic. Measurements indicated limited correlations between lengths of corolla tubes and tongues of nectar-foraging insects. Each nectarless Pedicularis species occupied a different, specific habitat, but P. bracteosa and the endemic P. rainierensis were sympatric in part. Each species had a unique spectral reflectance pattern from the corolla. Proximity of habitats and overlap of blooming periods of all Pedicularis species eliminate the possibility of contemporary geographic or phenological reproductive isolation. It is suggested that behavioral interactions of the plants and their insect pollinators may have been instrumental in the past in reproductively isolating these species, hybrids of which are unknown.  相似文献

Pterygiella luzhijiangensis Huan C. Wang, is described and illustrated as a new species endemic to Yunnan, southwest China. It occurs in thickets of the Luzhijiang hot‐dry valley at elevations of 1000–1300 m a.s.l. This new species is closely related to P. duclouxii Franch., but clearly differs from the latter by its procumbent stems, much branched at the base, 7–20 cm long, the leaves 1.0–2.2 cm long, 0.1–0.2 (0.25) cm wide, the corolla 2.0–2.2 cm long, obviously longer than the calyx, with the lower lip of the corolla much longer than the upper one.  相似文献

Both species nested in mixed colonies in mangrove trees. The tops of trees were usually occupied exclusively by minor and the lower parts by ariel, but most nests of both species were in the intermediate parts of the canopy. The main laying season for both species was July to January. A census showed about 27 000 individuals present at the height of the season (1500 breeding pairs of minor, 5350 of ariel). Seasonal variation in numbers could be accounted for almost entirely by the changes in breeding activity of a resident population. Young of both species were fed at or near the nest-site for at least four months after fledging. A recovery near Bombay of a wing-tagged immature ariel shows that this species, at least, undergoes a post-fledging dispersal; it is suggested that young minor either do not disperse, or do so later than ariel. Food samples collected from chicks showed no overall difference between the species, but a seasonal analysis showed that ariel took more squid than minor in the wet season, and in the dry season the two species took different proportions of the two commonest species of flying-fish. Chicks of ariel received smaller meals than minor chicks in the wet season, but similar-sized meals in the dry season; ariel chicks grew more slowly than minor chicks. It is suggested that the timing of the breeding season is related to the need for adults to build up fat reserves to carry them through the courtship, nest-building and laying periods, when they are tied to the colony and so have little opportunity to feed. The evidence for non-annual breeding in frigatebirds is discussed. It is concluded that while successful breeders must breed at intervals of more than 12 months, they could theoretically nest in two successive seasons and that, since breeding success is low, most individuals probably do so. Existing knowledge of the biology of four of the five recognized species of frigatebirds is summarized, and shows that the family is at least as uniform as the tropicbirds and much more so than other Pelicaniformes.  相似文献
