Proximate analysis of kernels of 30, and amino acid composition of two, varieties of sunflower seed are reported. Replacement of groundnut cake in the diet of growing chickens by sunflower cake improved growth rate and efficiency of utilization of energy and protein. Diets based on sunflower cake needed only 4% fish meal supplementation as against 8% needed with groundnut cake for equal weight gains (1700 g) in broilers to 70 days of age. A mixture of sunflower and groundnut cakes gave almost similar weight gains with only 2% fish meal. Sunflower hull did not appear to contain any harmful constituent and its presence in the diet did not cause any harm, but it decreased the energy content of the diets. At the 18% dietary protein level, a mixture of sunflower and groundnut cakes gave decidedly higher weight gain than either of the two cakes alone. At 18–26% dietary protein, groundnut cake proved inferior to sunflower cake for growth and feed efficiency. With both cakes, broilers performed better at higher levels of dietary protein. Level of incorporation in the diets did not affect the metabolizable energy of sunflower cake. Decorticated and undecorticated sunflower cakes gave metabolizable energy values of 2.95 and 2.65 Mcal/kg, respectively.  相似文献

The effective diffusivity for oxygen within sewage sludge cakes was measured, and in turn used for the study of microbial activity in the sludge cake composting. The diffusivity was found to be proportional to the one and a half power of the sludge cake porosity. Composting experiments were done using two types of sludge cakes, 5 mesh sieved and pelletized. It was found that the microbial activity in the inner core region of the pelletized sludge cake was significantly less than that in the outer region, even through the rate of oxygen diffusion was fast enough to support the microorganisms' activities. It appears, therefore, that microorganisms acting to degrade organic matter grow primarily on the macroscopic interface between solids and air.  相似文献

The nutritional effects of high-fat diets have been extensively studied in laboratory animals, but as yet few experiments have examined the feeding response of animals to newly developed fat substitutes. The present study used commercially available no-fat (0% fat, 92% carbohydrate) and high-fat (41% fat, 54% carbohydrate) cake to determine the effects of fat substitutes on food preference and caloric intake in rats. The first experiment showed that nondeprived rats found the high-fat and no-fat cakes equally palatable and highly preferred to lab chow. Food deprived rats, however, preferred the high-fat cake to the no-fat cake, which may be related to its higher caloric density. In the second experiment, rats fed high-fat cake, in addition to chow, for 30 days consumed more calories and gained more weight than did rats fed no-fat cake and chow. The no-fat cake group, however, overate and gained more weight than chow-only controls. The hyperphagic response to the no-fat cake can be attributed to its carbohydrate content, moisture, and high palatability. Thus, removing fat from the cake reduced, but did not eliminate, its obesity-promoting effect. Obviously, low-fat foods must be consumed in moderation if used for weight control.  相似文献

Investigations were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of biocontrol agents (Paecilomyces lilacinus and Cladosporium oxysporum) and/or oil cakes of castor, linseed, groundnut, mahua and neem in the management of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne javanica infecting eggplant under glasshouse conditions. All the treatments effectively suppressed the nematode population and kept the infection at significantly low level. Individual treatment of P. lilacinus was more effective than C. oxysporum in controlling M. javanica, whereas among oil cakes individual treatment of neem was more effective in the management of M. javanica followed by linseed cake, castor cake, groundnut cake and mahua cake. However, the efficacy of biocontrol agents increased in the presence of oil cakes. The highest improvement in plant growth and best protection against M. javanica was obtained by the integration of P. lilacinus with groundnut cake followed by neem cake, linseed cake, castor cake and mahua cake. On the other hand the integration of C. oxysporum with neem cake followed by groundnut cake, linseed cake, castor cake and mahua cake gave the best results in managing M. javanica on eggplant.  相似文献

The potential use of Brettanomyces anomalus PSY-001 as an additional starter culture for the production of Rice-steamed sponge cake (RSSC), a traditional fermented food in China, was investigated. Two productions of RSSC, each containing batches of experimental cakes with Brettanomyces added and reference cakes with the leavened liquid added were carried out. For both experimental and reference cakes, chemical analysis and sensory evaluation were carried out during the fermentation period. The results showed that experimental cakes had desirable aroma and taste. The observed differences indicate a positive contribution to the overall quality of RSSC by B. anomalus PSY-001.  相似文献

The effects of oilseed cakes on extracellular thermostable alpha-amylase production by Bacillus licheniformis CUMC305 was investigated. Each oilseed cake was made of groundnut, mustard, sesame, linseed, coconut copra, madhuca, or cotton. alpha-Amylase production was considerably improved in all instances and varied with the oilseed cake concentration in basal medium containing peptone and beef extract. Maximum increases were effected by a low concentration (0.5 to 1.0%) of groundnut or coconut, a high concentration (3%) of linseed or mustard, and an Rintermediate concentration (2%) of cotton, madhuca, or sesame. The oilseed cakes made of groundnut or mustard could completely replace the conventional peptone-beef extract medium as the fermentation base for the production of alpha-amylase by B. licheniformis. The addition of corn steep liquor to cotton, linseed, sesame, or madhuca cake in the medium improved alpha-amylase production.  相似文献

Plant secondary compounds can prevent feeding by phytophagous insects or, if ingested, can be poisonous to them. Less attention has been paid to the additional effects they have on feeding behavior when they are only weakly deterrent or not deterrent at all. Experiments were carried out on the generalist grass-hopperSchistocerca americana. Individuals were presented either with two cakes of high-quality artificial food with a single deterrent compound added or with two cakes, each with a different added deterrent compound. The deterrents consisted of single plant secondary compounds that were either marginally or strongly deterrent. There were profound differences in feeding behavior between those individuals given identical and those given different cake types, including longer feeding bouts on single cakes when a choice of different cake types was available. The behavioral effects demonstrate that the presence of secondary compounds in one food can influence the patterns of feeding on other available foods and suggest that such chemicals could impact foraging activities in a complex manner.  相似文献

Selected oil cakes, neem, castor and mahua, were tried independently and in combination with a chemical nematicide (carbofuran 3G) for the management of Pratylenchus delattrei in crossandra under glass house conditions. The neem oil cake was effective compared to other oil cakes used and there was a synergistic effect when the neemcake was coupled with carbofuran 3G in the management of Pratylenchus delattrei. The treatment resulted in better establishment of seedlings, and with increased plant bio-mass and flower yield.  相似文献

膏桐饼作为生物柴油产业中产生的最大宗副产物,其高蛋白、低纤维含量的特性有望使其开发成为一种优良的蛋白饲料,但毒性限制了其直接作为饲料利用。发酵是多种饼粕脱毒的常用方法。分离、纯化膏桐根际微生物并分别发酵膏桐饼,用甲醇提取发酵膏桐饼的毒性成分并溶于水中,通过鲤鱼存活时间来评价不同菌株发酵膏桐饼的毒性,筛选获得了一株能够在膏桐饼上快速生长并能有效脱除膏桐饼毒性的短帚霉。脱毒小桐子饼组的小鲤鱼存活时间与对照组相比延长了1.22倍。  相似文献

Studies were conducted with ten barrows, average initial body weight 34.5 ± 2.1kg, fitted with a T-cannula at the distal ileum, to study the accuracy of determination of the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) values of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) in rapeseed meal and cake and the effects of processing, using the difference method. Five corn starch-based diets in the studies were formulated to contain 17.7% CP and based on soybean meal, prepress-extraction rapeseed meal, prepress-extraction rapeseed meal plus soybean meal, high-temperature press rapeseed cake plus soybean meal, or low-temperature press rapeseed cake plus soybean meal as the sole source of dietary protein. The design was an incomplete Latin Square involving two three-week periods and five-treatments. It was found that the AID values of CP and most AA determined with the difference or direct method were significantly lower in rapeseed meal or cakes than soybean meal. The AID values of CP and most AA in prepress-extraction rapeseed meal, high-temperature press or low-temperature cakes determined with the difference method were no difference from those in prepress-extraction rapeseed meal determined with the direct method. The AID values of CP and AA in rapeseed meal and cake determined with the difference method were accurate, when the contribution of CP and AA from rapeseed was more than 50%. The AID values of CP and AA (especially lysine) were lower in the high-temperature press rapeseed cake than in the low-temperature press cake or the prepress-extraction meal.  相似文献

The IFBB process, which separates biomass into a press fluid for biogas production and a press cake for combustion, is aimed at converting low-input high-diversity grasslands into energy, which is problematic with conventional conversion techniques. Herbage from a lowland hay meadow (Arrhenaterion) was sampled on eight dates between 24 April and 21 June 2007. Silage from each date was processed in six treatments without and with hydrothermal conditioning at different temperatures. The impact on mass flows of plant compounds and on elemental concentrations in the press cake was investigated. Elements detrimental for combustion were significantly reduced in the press cake compared to the silage. Mass flows and elemental concentrations in the press cake were strongly influenced by conditioning temperature as well as concentration of neutral detergent fiber and dry matter in the silage (R2 from 0.70 to 0.99). Press cakes of late sampling dates were considered best suitable for combustion.  相似文献

The hydraulic resistance of cakes formed during the ultrafiltration of Streptomyces pristinaespiralis broths has been investigated for different harvesting conditions. S. pristinaespiralis broth was harvested after the point of microorganism activity declines (0-h aged broth) and afterwards held for different durations of up to 16 h (16 aged broths). Aging behavior occurring between the end of microorganism activity and harvest was compared for different acidification procedures (pH) and the mechanisms for which the hydraulic resistance of the cake is affected by aging have been investigated. For broths harvested under conditions where the acidification is fixed at pH 2 or 3, hydraulic resistance associated with cake build-up is directly determined by the interactions between the cells. Holding broths beyond 5 h contributes to a release of a soluble component from the cell surface. Enhanced cell surface interactions then turn the cake structure into a more open one and reduce the specific hydraulic resistance. For broths harvested under conditions where the acidification is fixed at pH 4, hydraulic resistance associated with cake build-up is both determined by cell interactions and cell morphology. The cause of the increase in specific hydraulic resistance with aging is due to the binding of a soluble component released by the microorganisms, which decreases the cell surface interactions.  相似文献

Licuri (Syagrus coronate) cake is a biodiesel by-product used in ruminant feed as a beneficial energy source for supplementation in managed pastures. The objective was to evaluate the performance, digestibility, nitrogen balance, blood metabolites, ingestive behavior and diet profitability of eight crossbred Holstein (3/4)×Gyr (5/8) multiparous cows (480±25 kg BW and 100 days milking) grazing and supplemented with licuri cake partially replacing ground corn and soybean meal in concentrate (0, 200, 400 and 600 g/kg in dry matter (DM)), distributed in an experimental duplicated 4×4 Latin square design. Licuri cake partially replacing ground corn and soybean meal increased (P<0.01) the intake and digestibility of ether extract and decreased the non-fiber carbohydrates; however, there were no influences on the intakes of DM, CP, NDF and total digestible nutrients (TDN). The digestibilities of DM, CP and NDF were not influenced by licuri cake addition. There was a decrease trend on TDN digestibility (P=0.08). Licuri cake replacing ground corn and soybean meal in concentrate did not affect the intake; fecal, urinary and mammary excretions; N balance; and triglycerides concentrations. However, the blood urea nitrogen (P=0.04) concentration decreased with the licuri cakes inclusion in cow supplementation. There was an increasing trend for serum creatinine (P=0.07). Licuri cake inclusion did not affect body condition score, production, yield, protein, lactose, total solids and solid non-fat contents of milk and Minas frescal cheese. There was a linear decrease in average daily weight gain (g/day). The milk fat concentration and cheese fat production (P<0.1) presented a linear increase with partial replacement of ground corn and soybean meal with licuri cakes. The addition of licuri cake did not alter the time spent feeding, ruminating or idling. There was an increasing trend in NDF feeding efficiency (P=0.09). The replacing of ground corn and soybean meal with licuri cake up to 600 g/kg decreased the concentrate cost by US$0.45/cow per day. Licuri cake replacing corn and soybeans (400 g/kg) in concentrate promoted a profit of US$0.07/animal per day. Licuri cake is indicated to concentrate the supplementation of dairy cows with average productions of 10 kg/day at levels up to 400 g/kg in the concentrate supplement because it provides an additional profit of US$0.07/animal per day and increased milk and Minas frescal cheese fat without negative effects on productive parameters.  相似文献

Supplementing the rice straw substrate colonized by the mushroom, Pleurotus sajor-caju, with powdered oil seed cakes (mustard, niger, sunflower, cotton, and soyabean) increased the mushroom yields between 50 and 100%, compared to the unsupplemented substrate. Oil seed cake supplementation also effected an increase in the solubility of the rice straw substrate; there was an increase in the contents of free sugars and amino acids, and a decrease in cellulo-hemicellulosics. Correspondingly, there was also an increase in the activities of carboxymethylcellulase, hemicellulase, and protease. In vitro dry matter enzymatic digestibility measured by two-step enzymatic digestibility of the spent straw (material remaining from the straw substrate, supplemented with the oil seed cakes), indicated a significant increase over that of the spent straw derived from the unsupplemented lot.  相似文献

An investigation was carried out to study the pathogenicity of root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita on okra and its management through various organic amendments. The inoculum level of 1000 juveniles per plant showed significant reduction in various plant growth parameters, which reveals that M. incognita is a potential pathogen of okra. With the increase in inoculums level of M. incognita (J2), there was a progressive decrease in various plant growth parameters. The maximum reduction in plant growth parameters was observed at an inoculum level of 4000 juveniles per plant. The efficacy of five organic amendments viz. groundnut cake, castor cake, sunflower cake, linseed cake and sawdust was tested against root knot nematode M. incognita. Amending the soil with different oil cakes was found to be effective in reducing the nematode soil population, number of females, number of egg masses as well as root gall formation in okra. The highest increase in plant growth (13%) and maximum reduction in number of galls (54%), number of females (57%) and number of egg masses (55%) was recorded on application of groundnut cake.  相似文献

Filtration of an isotonic suspension of baker's yeast through a 0.45‐μm membrane was studied at two different pressures, 40 and 80 kPa, for yeast concentrations ranging from 0.14 to 51 kg/m3 (dry weight). For a yeast volume fraction above 0.06 (~21.8 kg/m3), the porosity of the yeast cake is less dependent on the suspension concentration. For highly diluted suspensions, the specific cake resistance approaches a minimum that depends on the filtration pressure. Correlation functions of cake porosity and specific cake resistance were obtained for the concentration range investigated showing that the Kozeny–Carman coefficient increases when the applied pressure increases. Both filtration pressure and slurry concentration can be process controlled. In the range of moderate yeast concentration, the filtrate flux may be increased by manipulating the filtration pressure and the slurry concentration, thereby improving the overall process efficiency. The complex behavior of yeast cakes at high slurry concentration can be described by a conventional model as long as part of yeast cells are assumed to form aggregates, which behave as single bigger particles. Cell wall polysaccharides from black currants and bilberries were characterised in three approaches. First, compositions of skin, pulp, and seeds show the distribution of polysaccharides over these tissues. A sequential extraction of cell wall material with different aqueous extractants informs about the extractability of the different polysaccharides, viz. pectins, hemicellulose, and cellulose. Finally, by isolation of cell wall polysaccharides from juice and press cakes obtained by the conventional juice manufacturing. The polysaccharide distribution was followed during juice processing. The main difference between bilberries and black currants is the dominant sugar residue in seeds: mannose for black currants and xylose for bilberries. Most of the hemicellulolytic sugars and cellulose can be found back in the press cake. The sugar composition of the press cake is similar to the composition of the residue after sequential extraction. Black currants contain more pectic sugars than bilberries. Consequently, a commercial enzyme used during processing releases more pectic material into the juice.  相似文献

Expeller-pressed, sunflower-cake samples, with and without hulls, had metabolisable energy contents of 12.74 ± 0.71 and 16.24 ± 0.84 MJ/kg, respectively, in diets of single comb, White Leghorn layers. Over a 40-week period, layer diets based on sunflower cake alone or a mixture (50:50, on nitrogen basis) of sunflower- and groundnut-cakes gave higher egg production, feed intake, feed efficiency and egg weight than diets based on groundnut cake alone. These differences were more marked at 12% than at 16 or 14% dietary protein levels. Effects of oil cakes on albumen height or yolk colour were not significant. Fertility and hatchability of eggs were similar on groundnut- and sunflower-cake diets.  相似文献
