Cover illustration: Biotech Methods and Advances. This issue of Biotechnology Journal covers methods for systems metabolic engineering as well as downstream processing. The cover image shows an artist's impression of a magnetic fusion protein consisting of antibody like particles (pale blue) and ferritin subunits (pale green) encapsulating an iron core (red). These “Magnetizable antibody-like proteins” are described by Dehal et al. pp. 596–605 (http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/biot.200900273). Art by Mark Bradshaw, Pixelweave 3D.  相似文献

The cover of this regular issue of BTJ shows fluorescence microscopy images of bacteria along with their processed counterparts after CellShape analysis. While the former are simple raw images, the latter reveal important quantitative information e.g. intensity contours and spots. Altogether, they form a complete dataset from which we can accurately interpret cellular fluorescent signals. The cover is prepared by ρngel Goñi‐Moreno, Juhyun Kim and Víctor de Lorenzo authors of the article ”CellShape: A user‐friendly image analysis tool for quantitative visualization of bacterial cell factories inside“. ( http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/biot.201600323 ).  相似文献

Cover illustration Special issue: Nanobio vs. bionano As researchers develop capabilities to engineer and manipulate objects and systems at ever-diminishing scales, we are now entering the realm of scientific discoveries at the nano-level. One such invention is pictured on the cover of this Special Issue, edited by François Baneyx (University of Washington, USA) and Je-Kyun Park (KAIST, Korea), showing a single-cell-sized neural electrode with unique gold nanograin structures in the beautiful shape of a sunflower. This “regular” issue of Biotechnology Journal gathers the state‐of‐the‐art in biotechnology, including articles on CHO cells, plant biotechnology and tissue engineering. The cover image shows immunohistochemical staining of tissue sections using antibodies recognizing different target proteins (www.proteinatlas.org) and is provided by Sophia Hober et al., authors of “Antibody performance in western blot applications is context‐dependent” (http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/biot.201300341)  相似文献

This regular issue of BTJ includes articles on analytical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology and metabolic engineering. The cover is inspired by the article "Chlorella species as hosts for genetic engineering and expression of heterologous proteins: Progress, challenge and perspective" by Bo Yang, Jin Liu, Yue Jiang and Feng Chen which is describing the heterologous proteins expressed in unicellular Chlorella species combined with the production of fine value‐added bioactives ( http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/biot.201500617 ).  相似文献

This regular issue of BTJ includes articles on bioprocess engineering and biochemical engineering. Also it contains two special articles to the topic ‘Eukaryotic Synthetic Biology’. The cover shows mouse embryonic stem cells proliferating in a microfluidic culture device capable of monitoring specific oxygen uptake rates in real time. Monitoring occurs without disruption of the cell culture and label‐free. Image is provided by Alexandre Super, Nicolas Jaccard, Marco Paulo Cardoso Marques, Rhys Jarred Macown, Lewis D. Griffin, Farlan Singh Veraitch and Nicolas Szita authors of ‘Real‐time monitoring of specific oxygen uptake rates of embryonic stem cells in a microfluidic cell culture device’ ( http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/biot.201500479 ).  相似文献

This regular issue of BTJ includes the new section “Biotech Methods”, and features articles on nanofibers and biofilms. The cover illustrates the technique of electrospinning, which is applied for the production of artificial filaments that can be organized to mats, which has many applications such as wound coverning or for stabilization of bioprinting/3D tissue units. It is described that silica [bio‐silica] converts those mats to morphogenetically active materials. Image by Werner Mülller. See the article by Müller et al. 10.1002/biot.201400277  相似文献

Schematic representation of a microfluidic side‐entry reactor with reactants of a penicillin G acylase reaction and pH sensors integrated along the reaction channel. The pH sensors enabled real‐time monitoring of the reaction progress in a microfluidic reactor. Alkaline buffers added to the reactor's side‐entries balanced the pH and increased product yield, thereby highlighting the feasibility of pH control. The cover is prepared by Pia Gruber, Marco P.C. Marques, Philipp Sulzer, Roland Wohlgemuth, Torsten Mayr, Frank Baganz and Nicolas Szita authors of the article ”Real‐time pH monitoring of industrially relevant enzymatic reactions in a microfluidic side‐entry reactor (μSER) shows potential for pH control“ ( https://doi.org/10.1002/biot.201600475 ).  相似文献

Cover illustration Special issue: Methods and Advances Progress in biotechnology research relies heavily on innovative ideas and approaches. Every year, Biotechnology Journal publishes a “Methods and Advances” Special Issue, which covers the latest cutting-edge research and breakthrough technologies. For this issue's cover, we chose a design featuring 12 light bulbs, representing the 12 months of the year, each with state-of-the-art research. Poly(ethylene glycol)‐based polymers are used as carbon sources to re‐program the skin microbiome via specifically induction of fermentation of skin commensal Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. The production of short‐chain fatty acids by this fermentation diminishes the colonization of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The cover is prepared by Ming‐Shan Kao, Stephen Huang, Wei‐Lin Chang, Ming‐Fa Hsieh, Chun‐Jen Huang, Richard L. Gallo and Chun‐Ming Huang authors of the article ”Microbiome precision editing: Using PEG as a selective fermentation initiator against methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus“ ( https://doi.org/10.1002/biot.201600399 ).  相似文献
