Research was performed on a group of 30 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), who never received
antidiabetic medication before, and on a group of 17 healthy adults. The patients were administered treatment with metformin,
1,000 mg/day. Plasmatic and urinary concentration of magnesium have been measured, copper and zinc along with the concentrations
of glucose, HDL, LDL, cholesterol, tryglicerides, HbA1c, and total erythrocyte magnesium, in advance and after 3 months of
treatment. Data showed significant differences in the NIDDM group vs the control group: for plasma magnesium—1.95 ± 0.19 vs
2.20 ± 0.18 mg/dl, p < 0.001; urine magnesium—237.28 ± 34.51 vs 126.25 ± 38.22 mg/24 h, p < 0.001; erythrocyte magnesium—5.09 ± 0.63 vs 6.38 ± 0.75 mg/dl, p < 0.001; plasma zinc—67.56 ± 6.21 vs 98.41 ± 20.47 μg/dl, p < 0.001; urine zinc—1,347.54 ± 158.24 vs 851.65 ± 209.75 μg/24 h, p < 0.001; plasma copper—111.91 ± 20.98 vs 96.33 ± 8.56 μg/dl, p < 0.001; and urine copper—51.70 ± 23.79 vs 36.00 ± 11.70 μg/24 h, p < 0.05. Treatment with metformin for 3 months modified significant erythrocyte magnesium—5.75 ± 0.61 vs 5.09 ± 0.63 mg/dl,
p < 0.001 and urine magnesium—198.27 ± 27.07 vs 237.28 ± 34.51 mg/24 h, p < 0.001, whereas it did not modify significant the plasmatic and urinary concentration of the other cations. The erythrocyte
magnesium concentration was inversely correlated with HbA1c (r = −0.438, p = 0.015). The plasma level of copper was positively correlated with HbA1c (r = 0.517, p < 0.003), tryglicerides (r = 0.534, p < 0.003), and cholesterol (r = 0.440, p < 0.05), and the plasma level of zinc was inversely correlated with glycemia (r = −0.399, p = 0.029). Our data show a significant action of metformin therapy, by increasing the total intraerythrocyte magnesium concentration
and decreasing the urinary magnesium elimination, positively correlated with the decrease of glycemia and HbA1c in NIDDM patients. 相似文献

Premature graying of hair with unclear etiology, which is known as premature canities, is a common cause of referrals to the
dermatologists. We assessed the relationship between serum iron, copper, and zinc concentrations with premature canities.
This study was conducted on patients under 20 years old suffering from premature canities, having a minimum of ten gray hair
fibers, and referring to university hospitals of Isfahan (Iran). The results were compared with age–sex-matched controls.
Demographic data and disease characteristics were recorded for two groups. We studied serum iron, copper, and zinc concentrations
of 66 patients and 66 controls using atomic absorption and Ferrozine methods. The mean age of studied cases was 17.8 ± 2.0 years,
and the mean age of the onset of canities was 15.5 ± 3.2 years with no significant difference between males and females (P > 0.05). Serum copper concentration was significantly lower in patients compared with controls (90.7 ± 37.4 vs. 105.3 ± 50.2 μg/dL,
P = 0.048), but serum iron concentration was significantly lower in controls compared to patients (88.8 ± 39.5 vs. 108.3 ± 48.4 μg/dL,
P = 0.008). Also, there was no significant difference between patients and controls in serum zinc concentration (114.8 ± 67.8
vs. 108.2 ± 49.9 μg/dL, P = 0.285). According to these results, among copper, zinc, and iron, a low serum copper concentration may play a role in premature
graying of hairs in our society. Further studies are needed to find the underlying mechanism of this relationship. 相似文献

Several studies have observed an inverse association between serum magnesium and fasting glucose levels. However, there have
been sparse data on Koreans. The present study was designed to evaluate the association between serum magnesium and fasting
serum glucose levels in Korean adults. A total of 949 Korean adults who visited an outpatient at a university hospital were
included in this study. We compared mean values of clinical data according to the tertile of serum magnesium level using analysis
of covariance. Association between serum magnesium and fasting glucose levels was evaluated using multiple regression analysis.
Odds ratio (OR) was calculated to determine the association between hypomagnesemia and abnormal glucose metabolism. Fasting
serum glucose levels decreased significantly from the lowest to the highest tertile of serum magnesium level (108.0 ± 1.4,
106.5 ± 2.1, 102.5 ± 1.7 mg/dl, respectively, p = 0.015), whereas blood pressure and lipid profile showed no significant associations. Serum magnesium level was negatively
associated with fasting serum glucose level (β = −0.114, p = 0.001). Participants with hypomagnesemia had significantly higher OR for abnormal glucose metabolism compared to those
with normomagnesaemia (OR = 2.28, 95%CI 1.29–4.02). There was a negative association between serum magnesium and fasting glucose
levels in Korean adults. In addition, hypomagnesemia was associated with abnormal glucose metabolism. 相似文献

The serum concentrations of copper, zinc, iron, and cobalt and copper/zinc ratio were investigated in horses infected with
equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1). Nine horses were naturally infected with the virus and nine healthy horses served as controls.
The concentrations of copper, zinc, iron, and cobalt were determined spectrophotometrically in the blood serum of all horses.
The results were (expressed in micrograms per deciliters) copper 2.80 ± 0.34 vs 1.12 ± 0.44, zinc 3.05 ± 0.18 vs 0.83 ± 0.06,
iron 2.76 ± 0.17 vs 3.71 ± 0.69, cobalt 0.19 ± 0.37 vs 0.22 ± 0.45, and copper/zinc ratio 0.72 ± 0.38 vs 1.41 ± 0.36 for control
vs infected group, respectively. In conclusion, copper and zinc concentrations of the infected group were lower than the control
group (p < 0.001), whereas iron concentration and the copper/zinc ratio of the infected group were higher than the control group (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001). The cobalt concentration was not found to be statistically different between two groups. It might be emphasized
that copper/zinc ratio was significantly affected by the EHV-1 infection, so it could be taken into consideration during the
course of infection.

Data on the concentration of the elements in the human body are important, for example, to estimate the amounts required to
maintain a good healthy state or find their connections with morbidity and mortality. In this paper, the concentration of
copper (by flame atomic absorption spectrometry) in material obtained from autopsy cases of nonpoisoned people (n = 130), aged from 14 to 80 years, between 1990–2006, is presented. The following values were found (mean ± SD in micrograms
of copper per gram or per milliliter): brain 3.32 ± 1.50 (n = 43), liver 3.47 ± 1.51 (n = 79), kidney 2.15 ± 0.90 (n = 76), stomach 1.10 ± 0.76 (n = 65), intestines 1.54 ± 1.19 (n = 25), lung 1.91 ± 1.30 (n = 27), spleen 1.23 ± 0.28 (n = 3), heart 3.26 ± 0.59 (n = 5), bile 3.60 ± 1.67 (n = 13), and blood 0.85 ± 0.19 (n = 73). 相似文献

Determination of copper in human tissues and body fluids may be crucial in the diagnosis of Wilson’s disease. In this study
we evaluated urinary copper excretion and urine and blood concentration in 14 patients in whom Wilson’s disease was confirmed
(group A) and in 21 subjects in whom the disease was only suspected (group B). The following values (mean ± SD) were found:
24-h urine (μg Cu/24 h), 152 ± 135 (A) and 31.8 ± 10.9 (B); urine (μg Cu/ml), 0.091 ± 0.087 (A) and 0.028 ± 0.011 (B); and
blood (μg Cu/ml), 0.62 ± 0.25 (A) and 0.72 ± 0.09 (B). By comparison, urine copper concentration in the group of apparently
healthy subjects was 0.035 ± 0.010 (n = 50), and blood copper concentration in autopsy cases of nonpoisoned people was 0.85 ± 0.19 (n = 73). 相似文献

This study aims at determining the association between markers of hepatic injury and serum, urinary, and intra-erythrocyte
magnesium concentrations and dietary magnesium intake in obese children and adolescents. In a case–control study, 42 obese
children and adolescents (8–18 years) and 42 sex- and puberty-matched controls were studied. Serum, urinary, and intra-erythrocyte
magnesium levels, indices of insulin sensitivity, and liver enzymes were measured. Dietary magnesium intake was assessed using
a food frequency questionnaire. Obese children and adolescents exhibited insulin resistance as determined by a higher fasting
insulin and the HOMA-IR (p < 0.001) and lower QUICKI indices (p = 0.001); in addition these subjects had significantly higher intra-erythrocyte magnesium (IEM) concentrations, than non-obese
ones (3.99 ± 1.05 vs. 3.35 ± 1.26 mg/dL of packed cell; p = 0.015). Among liver enzymes, only gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) was significantly higher in obese than in non-obese
subjects (22.7 ± 9.4 vs. 17.1 ± 7.9 U/l; p = 0.002). A positive association was found between GGT and IEM in both groups; however in multivariate analysis, in obese
subjects, only GGT (p = 0.026) and, in non-obese subjects, only age (p = 0.006) remained as significant predictors of IEM. In conclusion, increased IEM concentration was seen in insulin-resistant
obese children and adolescents; furthermore, serum GGT was associated with IEM, independently of body mass index and HOMA-IR. 相似文献

The combined effects of vitamin E and selenium were studied in native Anatolian horses subject to strenuous exercise. The
concentrations of copper, zinc, iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium were determined in serum by atomic absorption spectrometry
in two study groups (n = 25 each), one of which served as untreated controls. After exercising the horses by running 1,500 m in about 7 min, only
the copper level and the copper/zinc ratio significantly increased (p < 0.05), but the concentrations of calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium remained unchanged. In horses treated with vitamin
E and selenium, the calcium and potassium levels decreased to levels lower than those of untreated controls before and after
exercise. The iron levels were not changed by exercise or treatment alone but increased when the horses had been supplemented
and exercised. The copper level and the copper/zinc ration increased as a result of exercise in both treated and untreated
horses. These changes suggest that supplementation with vitamin E and selenium had an important effect on the serum concentrations
of calcium, potassium, copper, iron, and the copper/zinc ratio. 相似文献

The erythrocyte surface sialic acid concentration of clinically healthy mongrel and exotic (Alsatian i.e. German shepherd and Terrier) breeds of dogs was analyzed in order to determine their role in the genetic resistance of these
breeds of dogs to diseases that cause anaemia. The mean erythrocyte surface sialic acid (ESA) concentration was 57.08 ± 1.67,
34.50 ± 2.30 and 20.20 ± 3.54 mg/dl for Mongrel, Alsatian (German shepherd) and Terrier breeds of dogs, respectively, on acid
hydrolysis. The mean values of ESA obtained following enzymic hydrolysis of haemoglobin-free erythrocyte membranes using Clostridium chauvoei (Jakari strain) sialidase were 49.08 ± 0.41, 30.97 ± 1.82 and 18.64 ± 0.75 mg/dl for Mongrel, Alsatian (German shepherd)
and Terrier dogs respectively. When Trypanosoma vivax sialidase was used the ESA values obtained were 50.81 ± 0.37, 41.70 ± 0.94 and 19.65 + 0.65 mg/dl for Mongrel, Alsatian
(German shepherd) and Terrier breeds of dogs respectively. This represents a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001) between the mean ESA concentration of all the breeds of dogs investigated in this study. The higher mean ESA concentration
in Mongrel dogs, compared to the exotic breeds may be responsible for their resistance to disease conditions, whose aetiologic
agents produce neuraminidase and also cause anaemia. 相似文献

The present study was conducted to evaluate the serum selenium levels in first-degree relatives of diabetic patients (FDR)
according to controls. Insulin resistance, serum lipid levels, inflammation markers, and blood pressure were also studied
in these patients. Serum levels of selenium in FDR were significantly lower than control group (74.65 ± 5.9 vs 88.7 ± 8.7 μg/dl,
p < 0.0001). HsCRP, HOMA-IR, insulin, homocysteine levels were significantly higher in FDR according to the control group (1.32 ± 0.9
vs 0.63 ± 0.4 mg/dL, p < 0.0001; 2.07 ± 0.84 vs 1.51 ± 0.69, p < 0.0001; 9.26 ± 3.8 vs 6.8 ± 2.98 μU/MI, p < 0.0001; 15.7 ± 7.4 vs 11.5 ± 5.1 μmol/L, p < 0.0001, respectively). There was significant correlation between selenium levels and hsCRP (r = − 0.450, p < 0.0001). There was also weak significant correlation also between HOMA-IR and selenium levels (r = −0.227, p = 0.003). There was a correlation between systolic blood pressure and BMI (r = 0.365, p < 0.0001). But there was no correlation between selenium levels and blood pressure or other parameters. HsCRP, HOMA-IR, homocysteine
levels in individuals with selenium levels < 80 μg/L (n = 78) was significantly higher than hsCRP HOMA-IR, homocysteine levels in individuals with selenium levels ≥ 80 (n = 91; 1.23 ± 0.98 vs 0.81 ± 0.76 mg/dL, p < 0.003; 1.99 ± 0.88 vs 1.64 ± 0.74, p < 0.005; 15.0 ± 7.6 vs 12.9 ± 5.7 μmol/L, p < 0.049, respectively). Selenium deficiency may contribute to cardiovascular disease risk in FDR. 相似文献

Both total and dialyzable iron levels and corresponding dialyzability were determined in 108 duplicate meals during 36 consecutive
days. Total mean iron fraction of 5.90 ± 4.97 mg was found in the meals. The iron supplied by the meals is directly and significantly
(p < 0.05) correlated with macromicronutrient content (carbohydrates, fiber, and protein). The mean iron dialyzability (4.81 ± 3.25%)
was low and not significantly different among the three primary meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Significant interactions
of several minerals on iron levels were found (p < 0.05). Iron dialyzability was only statistically influenced by zinc dialyzability in meals (p < 0.05). The dialyzed iron fraction present in meals was significantly correlated with protein and ascorbic acid levels (p < 0.01). The mean iron daily dietary intake was 17.7 ± 6.91 mg. The hospital meals provided enough iron. Foods of animal origin
are primary sources of iron in diet. 相似文献

The human secretoglobin 3A2 (SCGB3A2) gene encoding secretory uteroglobin-related protein 1 (UGRP1) resides on the chromosome region 5q31-33 that harbors a susceptibility
locus to several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including asthma and Graves’ disease (GD). Recently, association between
the marker rs1368408 (−112G > A), located in the promoter region of the SCGB3A2 gene, and susceptibility to GD was found in Chinese and UK Caucasians. The study aim was to evaluate whether this polymorphism
confers GD susceptibility in a large population cohort comprising 1,474 Russian GD patients and 1,619 controls. The marker
rs1368408 was studied using a TaqMan allele discrimination assay. Serum levels of UGRP1 and immunoglobulin E (IgE) were assessed
using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) analyses. Association between the allele A of SCGB3A2 and a higher risk of GD (odds ratio [OR] = 1.33, P = 2.9 × 10−5) was shown. Both affected and non-affected carriers of the higher risk genotype A/A had significantly decreased levels of
serum UGRP1 compared to the subjects homozygous for G/G (93 ± 37 pg/ml vs. 132 ± 45 pg/ml, P = 0.0011 for GD patients; 77 ± 28 pg/ml vs. 119 ± 33 pg/ml, P = 0.0019 for controls). Serum IgE levels were significantly higher in non-affected subjects homozygous for A/A compared to
control individuals homozygous for G/G (153 ± 46 IU/ml vs. 122 ± 40 IU/ml, P = 0.0095). Our data suggest that the carriage of the SCGB3A2 −112A/A variant increases the risk for GD in subsets of patients with elevated levels of IgE, a hallmark of allergic asthma.
Therefore, the SCGB3A2 −112G > A polymorphism may be considered as a likely marker linking susceptibility to allergy/asthma and GD on chromosome
5q31-33. 相似文献

Data on zinc concentration in the human body may be used to interpret the results obtained in cases of chronic and acute poisonings
with zinc compounds, i.e., in clinical and forensic toxicology. In this paper, the concentrations of zinc in human tissues
and body fluids obtained from autopsy cases concerning non-poisoned people (n = 203), aged from 14 to 80 years, between 1995 and 2008, are presented. The following values were found by the flame atomic
absorption method (mean ± SD, median, range, in microgram per gram or microgram per milliliter): brain 10.3 ± 1.36, 10.2,
7.99–13.8 (n = 48); stomach 14.2 ± 3.63, 13.6, 8.00–22.5 (n = 71); intestines 15.7 ± 5.22, 15.8, 8.36–28.1 (n = 35); liver 39.6 ± 16.1, 36.6, 16.0–78.8 (n = 109); kidney 33.8 ± 10.1, 31.8, 16.4–60.9 (n = 93); lung 12.0 ± 3.88, 11.0, 6.13–18.7 (n = 26); spleen 14.7 ± 2.53, 14.6, 11.4–18.3 (n = 5); heart 26.5 ± 3.63, 26.7, 22.5–31.8 (n = 5); blood 6.81 ± 1.21, 7.00, 4.02–8.68 (n = 50); urine 0.69 ± 1.70, 0.60, 0.39–1.00 (n = 5), and bile 4.92 ± 1.64, 3.75, 3.20–7.09 (n = 9). The accuracy of the method was checked through the use of SRM Bovine Liver 1577b (certified: 127 ± 16 μg Zn/g, found:
117 ± 0.7 μg Zn/g (n = 6)). 相似文献

Although there are many studies on effect of fluoride on trace elements in experimental animals, few studies exist on serum
trace elements levels in patients with endemic fluorosis. We aimed to determine the serum levels of trace elements including
serum copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and serum levels of minerals including calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), sodium
(Na), potassium (K) in patients with endemic fluorosis. The study group consisted of 30 patients with endemic fluorosis (17
females, 13 males, mean age 33.53 ± 9.85 years). An age, gender, and body mass index matched 30 healthy volunteers comprised
control group (21 females, ten males with a mean age 33.93 ± 7.39 years). Urine fluoride levels of chronic fluorosis patients
were significantly higher than that of control subjects as expected (1.92 ± 0.10 mg/l vs. 0.41 ± 0.09 mg/l, respectively;
P < 0.001). Serum Cu levels (89.14 ± 16.77 μg/dL vs. 102.69 ± 25.04 μg/dL, respectively, P = 0.017), serum Zn levels (77.98 ± 20.58 μg/dL vs. 94.57 ± 35.87μg/dL, respectively, P = 0.032), and serum Mg levels (1.92 ± 0.18 mg/dL vs. 2.07 ± 0.31 mg/dL, respectively, p = 0.022) was significantly lower in chronic fluorosis patients than in controls. There were no statistically significant
differences between the fluorosis group and control group with respect to serum levels of Na, K, Ca, and P. We concluded that
chronic fluorosis is associated with reduced serum levels of Cu, Zn, and Mg. 相似文献

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) causes significant weight loss in morbidly obese adults. However, its consequences
on nutritional status still remain unclear. There are a few studies determining the nutritional status after LAGB and none
have focused on the serum levels of zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and ceruloplasmin (CP). We aimed to investigate the effects of
LAGB surgery on plasma Zn, Cu, and CP levels. Thirty patients with LAGB with morbid obesity were included. Blood samples were
collected preooperatively and in the postoperative third month to determine plasma Zn, Cu, and CP levels. The mean preoperative
and postoperative body mass indexes (BMI) were 44.9 ± 7.4 kg/m2 and 44.1 ± 6.5 kg/m2, respectively. The mean weight loss was 12.9 ± 3.3 kg at the postoperative third month. The postoperative Zn (500 ± 130 ng/ml),
Cu (280 ± 80 ng/ml), and CP (23.9 ± 8.8 mg/dl) values were statistically significantly lower than the preooperative Zn (740 ± 230 ng/ml),
Cu (370 ± 80 ng/ml) and CP (33.3 ± 15.7 mg/dl) levels (p < 0.05). Decreases in the plasma levels of Zn, Cu, and CP were seen postoperatively following LAGB surgery. The nutritional
status of LAGB-applied patients should be monitored and mineral supplementation may be considered. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare plasma leptin, plasma zinc, and plasma copper levels and their relationship in trained
female and male judo athletes (n = 10 women; n = 8 men). Blood samples were obtained 24 h after training to measure plasma zinc, copper, and leptin levels. Subjects presented
similar values to age (22 ± 2 years old), body mass index (24 ± 1 kg/m2), plasma zinc (17.2 ± 2 μmol/L), copper (12.5 ± 2 μmol/L), and leptin (5.6 ± 1.3 μg/L). However, height, total body mass,
lean mass, fat mass, and sum of ten-skinfold thickness were higher in male than female. Plasma leptin was associated with
sum of ten skinfolds in male (r = 0.91; p < 0.001) and female athletes (r = 0.84; p < 0.003). Plasma zinc was associated with leptin in males (r = 0.82; p < 0.05) while copper was associated with plasma leptin in females (r = 0.66; p < 0.05). Our results suggest that young judo athletes lost sex-related differences in leptin levels. Plasma zinc, plasma
copper, and energy homeostasis may be involved in regulation of plasma leptin. 相似文献

The effects of magnesium supplementation on plasma magnesium, zinc, and copper levels were determined in young adult tae-kwon-do
athletes and sedentary controls at rest and exhaustion. After a 4-week supplementation period with 10 mg/day/kg Mg, the plasma
magnesium, copper, and zinc levels significantly increased in sedentary and training (90–120 min training 5 days a week) subjects
when compared to nonsupplemented controls (p < 0.05). 相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the changes of level of the essential elements of copper, magnesium, and zinc status
in cases of teniasis in children. Copper, magnesium, and zinc levels were measured in 40 children who were positive for intestinal
parasite of Taenia saginata. Scores were obtained for the positives and their 30 age- and sex-matched T. saginata-negative healthy children. The mean concentration of copper, magnesium, and zinc in blood showed no statistically difference
in T. saginata-positive children than in their controls both in females (p>0.05) and males (p>0.05). However, a clear numerically decrease was observed especially in magnesium and zinc levels compared to the controls
both in females and males. The average magnesium concentration in T. saginata-positive female children and male children were 20±1.9 and 22±2.2 mg/L and it was 27±2.1 and 27±2.3 mg/L in controls, respectively.
The mean values of the zinc in blood were 0.76±0.5 and 0.72±0.4 mg/L in T. saginata-positive female children and male children and 0.85±0.3 and 0.81±0.5 mg/L in female and male controls, respectively. No correlation
could be demonstrated between age and mean values of copper, magnesium, and zinc in T. saginata-positive females and males and controls (p>0.05). No significant correlation could be found between blood copper, magnesium and zinc levels in T. saginata-positive female and male children and controls (p>0.05). Although there was no statistical correlation observed in copper, magnesium, and zinc levels between patients and
controls, there seem to be, especially in magnesium and zinc levels, a decrease, whereas no change was seen in the zinc level
in children infected with T. saginata compared to controls. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and effectiveness of direct determination of trace and major element
concentrations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples from Holstein calves with Mycoplasma bronchopneumonia (n = 21) and healthy controls (n = 20). The samples were obtained during bronchoscopy using a standard examination method. A total of 18 elements (aluminum,
bromine, calcium, chlorine, chromium, copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, phosphorous, sulfur,
silicon, strontium, titanium, and zinc) were detected by particle-induced X-ray emission. The average bromine, iron, potassium,
magnesium, and phosphorous concentrations were higher in calves with bronchopneumonia than in controls (p < 0.05). They were found to have higher amounts of calcium and zinc, and a higher zinc–copper ratio than that in healthy
calves (p < 0.001). Based on the receiver operating characteristics curves, we propose a diagnostic cutoff point for zinc–copper ratio
for identification of Mycoplasma pneumonia of 8.676. Our results indicate that assessment of the elemental composition of broncholaveolar lavage fluid is
a promising diagnostic tool for Mycoplasma bronchopneumonia. 相似文献

BackgroundOur aim was to analyze both metabolic control and chronic complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) patients regularly attended in primary care during a 3 years of follow-up in the Community of Madrid (Spain).MethodsFrom 2007 to 2010 we prospectively included 3268 patients with T2D attended by 153 primary care physicians from 51 family health centers. An prospective cohort study with annual evaluation over 3 years to the same population was performed. We measured the goals of control in diabetic patients and the incidence of chronic complications of diabetes during the study period.ResultsA significant decrease in serum glucose levels (143 ± 42 mg/dl vs 137 ± 43 mg/dl, p < 0.00), HbA1c (7.09 ± 1.2% vs 7.02 ± 1.2%, p < 0.00), total cholesterol (191.4 ± 38 mg/dl vs 181.5 ± 36 mg/dl, p < 0.00), LDL cholesterol (114.7 ± 31 mg/dl vs 105.5 ± 30 mg/dl, p < 0.00) and triglyceride levels (144.5 ± 93 mg/dl vs 138 ± 84 mg/dl, p < 0.00) during study period was documented. On the contrary, a significant elevation in HDL cholesterol levels was observed (49.2 ± 14 mg/dl vs 49.9 ± 16 mg/dl, p < 0.00). The incidence of diabetic complications throughout the study period was low, with a incidence of coronary heart disease of 6.2%, peripheral arterial disease 3%, ischemic stroke 2.8%, diabetic foot 11.2%, nephropathy 5.9%, retinopathy 4.5%, and neuropathy 3%.ConclusionMetabolic control in T2D patients attended in primary care in the Community of Madrid throughout 3 years is adequate and is accompanied by low percent of chronic diabetic complications during this period of follow-up. 相似文献
