We studied inheritance of resistance to dicrotophos in greenhouse whitefly,Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood (Homoptera, Aleyrodidae). Compared with females from a field-collected susceptible strains (S), females from a resistant strain (R) ofT. vaporariorum derived from heavily treated cotton fields had a 28-fold greater LC50 to dicrotophos in laboratory bioassays. Concentration-mortality lines obtained from female progeny of reciprocal F1 crosses (R XS and S XR) were similar, suggesting that inheritance of dicrotophos resistance was autosomal and not influenced by maternal effects. Responses of F1 female progeny were similar to those of the parental S strain, indicating that the resistance was partially recessive (degree of dominance, D, was −0.61). Mortality observed in female progeny obtained from a backcross (F1♀ XR) corresponded more closely to expectations derived from polygenic models than to expectations from a monogenic model. The estimated number of effective factors (sensu Lande, 1981) contributing equally to resistance was three.  相似文献

The identification of recombinant males inMuscidifurax raptorellus Kogan & Legner, secured from virgin hybrid ♀♀ formed by crossing cohorts from solitary and gregarious, populations, supports chromosomal inheritance of gregarious oviposition behavior. Examination of parasitization behavior in female progeny that had recombinant male fathers, indicated the, existence of recombinant ♂♂. Such ♂♂ also were able to elicit immediate phenotypic changes in their female mating partners, at intensities expected from their genetic character, as previously observed with original parental ♂♂ in this species. Progeny originating from F1 mothers and recombinant fathers demonstrated the highest levels of heterosis, as measured by increased parasitization rates and numbers of eggs laid. Although extranuclear inheritance has not been eliminated, its influence on phenotypic changes in progeny seems minimal.   相似文献

The egg parasitoid,Platytelenomus busseolae (Gahan) (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) was recorded from egg masses of the corn stalk borer,Sesamia nonagrioides (Lefebvre) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on maize in the area of Istiaea, Central Greece. Natural parasitism was studied during the years 1986, 1987. A total of 3,382 egg masses, containing 205,227 eggs, was collected from corn fields. Parasitized eggs were found from end July to mid-October. In 1986. 76.2% of the egg masses and 42.8% of all eggs were parasitized, while in 1987, respective values were 27.6% and 12.9%. The inferior performance of the parasitoid in 1987 may be due to the unfavorable winter and summer conditions. Parasitism decreased when the host population was at its peak, but it increased again within 1 to 3 weeks. A small percentage of egg masses was completely parasitized (9.5% and 4.7% for the 2 years respectively). In 1987, the sex ratio, ♀♀/♂♂ was 1.5: 1 and 26.2% of the egg masses produced only ♂♂. Mated ♀♀ produced 3 times more ♀♀ than ♂♂. It seems that the parasitoid, under favorable weather conditions, can play a significant role in the control of the corn stalk borer.   相似文献

Encarsia pergandiella Howard females develop as primary parasitoids of immature whiteflies, whereas ♀♀ develop as secondary parasitoids on ♂♂ of their own species or on other primary whitefly parasitoids. In this experiment, maleE. pergandiella development was examined in the laboratory at 24°C, using different stages of immatureE. pergandiella females [enclosed within the cuticle ofTrialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood)] as hosts. Unmated adult femaleE. pergandiella were caged individually for 24 h on leaves of plants with either 5-day (early to late 3rd instar larval), 7-day (late 3rd instar to prepupal), or 9-day (pupal) hosts. In a control treatment, hosts were allowed to complete development without exposure to unmated adult females. Subsequent emergence of ♂♂ (hosts) and ♀♀ from all treatments was recorded daily. Pupal (9-day)E. pergandiella females were found to be the most suitable hosts for development of ♀♀. Nine- and 7-day hosts were attacked at a similar rate, as indicated by a similarly low proportion of host emergence, but ♀♀ emerged at a significantly higher rate in the 9-day treatment than in the 7-day treatment. Development time of ♀♀ was 15±1 days in the 9-day treatment, and 16±1 days in the 7-day treatment (p<0.005). The proportion of hosts emerging from the 5-day treatment was not significantly different from the control treatment. The data suggest that the colonizing ability ofE. pergandiella in greenhouses is likely to be limited by the delay of 7–9 days between oviposition of female eggs and the suitability of these ♂♂ for oviposition of male eggs. Since development time of the 2 sexes is similar this delay should cause a lack of synchrony in the emergence and mating of F1 ♂♂ and ♀♀.   相似文献

The biology and behaviour ofTetrastichus sesamiae Risbec, a pupal endoparasitoid ofMaruca testulalis Geyer, were studied under laboratory conditions. Most adults emerged from the host pupae between 08.00 h and 09.00 h and mating and oviposition started almost immediately. Both ♂♂ and ♀♀ mated repeatedly, and each ♀ could lay eggs for up to 6 days and in up to 5 host pupae. Progeny production ranged from 0–263 offspring per ♀ and adult longevity was from 4.3–13.9 days. The quality of food available to the adults was a major factor influencing progeny production, and longevity. The species was capable of parasitizing and completing development on pupae of such other major Lepidopteran crop pests asChilo partellus Swinhoe,Busseola fusca Fuller,Eldana saccharina Wlk andSpodoptera exempta Wlk, an important finding for biological control of these pests under intercropped agro ecosystems. Apart from parasitism, ♀♀ ofT. sesamiae also caused considerable mortality by stinging, and presumably paralyzing, host pupae without ovipositing.   相似文献

Progeny production increased and adult longevity decreased with rising temperature within the range 18°C to 30°C for the 3 mealybug parasitoidsAnagyrus pseudococci (Girault),Leptomastix dactylopii Howard andLeptomastidea abnormis (Girault). The Weibull distribution gave a good fit to survival curves for the 3 parasitoids and statistical comparison of Weibullb andc parameters at different temperatures allowed changes in the scale and shape of the curves to be detected. In general, ♀♀ lived longer than ♂♂ for all 3 species, except at high temperature. FemaleL. abnormis attained their maximum progeny production at 24°C and maintained this level up to 34°C. They lived longer than the other 2 parasitoid species at 30°C and showed a type I survival curve throuhout the range of temperatures examined.A. pseudococci andL. dactylopii both required high temperatures (30°C) to attain their maximal progeny production, but werepseudococci tended towards type II, with a larger proportion of the population dying within the first few days.L. dactylopii lived longest at 26°C, with ♀♀ showing a type I survival curve at all temperatures and ♂ survival curves changing from type I to type II at 30°C. The implications of these findings for the population dynamics of the different parasitoids are briefly discussed.   相似文献

AdultGlossina morsitans morsitans exposed to wet conidia ofBeauveria bassiana andMetarhizium anisopliae suffered high mortalities ranging from 90 to 100% by 2 weeks post-exposure. Infected ♂ ♂ maintained in the same cages with non-infected ♀♀ throughout the experimental period transmitted the fungal infection to the ♀♀ resulting in mortalities of 65% withB. bassiana and 55% withM. anisopliae. Likewise, infected ♀♀ maintained together with non-infected ♂♂ transmitted the infection to the ♂♂ resulting in mortalities of 75% withB. bassiana and 45% withM. anisopliae. Female tsetse flies infected withB. bassiana andM. anisopliae and maintained in the same cages with non-infected ♀♀ also transmitted infection to the non-infected tsetse resulting in mortalities of 62% and 48% withB. bassiana andM. anisopliae respectively. Infected tsetse exposed to non-infected tsetse of the opposite sex for only 30 min were also able to transmit the fungal infection. Pupae produced by female tsetse infected withB. bassiana andM. anisopliae exhibited higher pupal mortality than those produced by non-infected ♀♀. However, pupae exposed directly to dry spores ofB. bassiana andM. anisopliae had no increase in pupal mortality but adults emerging from theB. bassiana-exposed pupae had markedly reduced longevity.   相似文献

Studies were conducted on the solitary egg-larval endoparasitoidPhanerotoma hendecasisella Cam. [Hymenoptera: Braconidae] to determine its biology onDiaphania indica (Saunders) [Lepidoptera: Pyralidae]. Larvae pass through 3 stages as determined by the shape and size of the mandibles. Mean developmental period from egg to adult was 26.51 days at 26.06 °C and 73.88% RH. There is no preoviposition period. The sex ratio was 1∶1.12 (male/female). Mean adult longevity was not different for ♂♂ and ♀♀.   相似文献

The fertility of triploid backcross progeny, (gengoroubunaCarassius auratus cuvieri ♀ × carpCyprinus carpio ♂) F1 ♀ × gengoroubuna or carp ♂ is reported. In females, spawning could be induced by the injection of pituitary extracts. The fertilization rates were from 52.4 to 88.6%, and free swimming rates from 2.6 to 34.4%. Many normal larvae were obtained after crossing with the sperm of gengoroubuna. However, after crossing with sperm of the loachMisgurnus anguillicaudatus, most of the embryos died before hatching and no normal larvae were obtained. Sperm could not be stripped from the progeny of either type of triploid backcross after the injection of pituitary extracts. Under light microscope, each seminal lobule in the testis was mainly occupied by spermatocytes in various stages. Some spermatids were found in part of the lobules, but no spermatozoa were observed.  相似文献

Summary A study was made of the effect of genotype and temperature (25 and 17°C) on sex ratio in the hybrids D. virilis Sturt. X D. littoralis Sokolov. A genetic system has been found controlling sex-differential viability. In the F1 of the reciprocal hybrids D. virilis X D. littoralis the sex ratio is normal, though at 17°C females are slightly excessive. The abnormal sex ratio is observed only in the progeny of test crosses. The major gene causing the death of female progeny of the cross [ (, D. virilis x , D. littoralis) x D. virilis] x D. littoralis is located on chromosome 2 of D. virilis. It is expressed as a lethal if chromosome 5 is heterogeneous virilis-littoralis. Chromosome 3 of D. virilis bears a modifier-enhancer and chromosome 5, a suppressor, of this lethal found in chromosome 2. This genetic system has a maternal effect and functions at 25°C, interacting with the X-chromosome of D. littoralis. If the maintainance temperature is lowered to 17°C, the progeny of the cross hybrid FB1 x D. littoralis is predominantly female. Partial death of males is accounted for by a disturbance in the interaction between the genes of X-chromosome in certain combinations with the D. virilis autosomes and the Y-chromosome of the paternal species D. littoralis.Sex-differential mortality in the hybrids D. virilis x D. littoralis is one of the isolating factors between these species which does not appear to act until the second and subsequent F1 generations due to the formation of the recombination load.  相似文献

InBrassica, self-incompatibility (SI) can be overcome by CO2 application, an effective method for obtaining numerous inbred lines for F, commercial seed. We previously reported two different S-alleles ofBrassica campestris, S733 and S734, with extremely different degrees of susceptibility to this gas. In the current study, we raised a cross-population between those two genetic lines, and analyzed their reaction level of self-incompatibility to CO2 (RLSICO2). Here, all 40 of our progeny from the F1 cross-population were susceptible, maintaining high values of RLSICO2. This suggests that the susceptible line, S734, is dominant to the insusceptible line, S733. We also generated an F2 selfing-population of each crossed progeny, S733♀ S734♂ and S733♂ S734♀, to assess the RLSICO2 of each individual. PCR-RFLP analysis was performed to determine the S-genotype of the F2 population. The S734 allele segregated in a theoretical ratio of the dominant trait, and the RLSICO2 was consistent with the dominance relationship. Therefore, we have now demonstrated that high RLSICO2 in β.campestris is controlled by a dominant gene. Both authors contributed equally to this work  相似文献

Trichogramma buesi was reared in the laboratory on eggs of the Mediterranean flour moth,Anagasta kuehniella. The incubation period of the parasite's egg was 27 h at 23 °C and 22 h at 27 °C. The larval stage lasted 3.6 and 3.2 days, the pre-pupa lasted 16 and 23 h, and the pupa lasted 5.4 and 4.6 days at 23° and 27°C, respectively. The total developmental time (from egg to adult) averaged 9.2, 9.4, and 9.1 days when the parasite was reared on eggs ofPieris rapae, Spodoptera littoralis, andA. kuehniella, respectively, at 27 °C. Sex ratio inT. buesi was 1 ♂: 1 ♀ in nature and 1 ♂: 1.3 ♀ in the laboratory. The daily and total numbers or progeny produced/female were 5.1 and 98.2 adults, respectively. The parasite female, fed on honey, lived 10.7 days at 27 °C and 12.1 days at 23 °C. Percentages of parasitism byT. buesi on eggs ofP. rapae collected from cabbage fields ranged between 0 and 31.5 % in 1985 and betwcen 0 and 36.4% in 1986 during July through December. The respective figures on eggs collected from turnip fields were 16–42.2% and 12.5–32.1% during November and December.   相似文献

In the present studies, life table data and intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) of the eulophid pupal parasitoid,P. furvus (Gahan) were obtained fromChilo partellus (Swinhoe) at a constant temperature of 26.7±0.6°C, 52.3±2.7% RH in the laboratory. Development of immature stages took 19.1±0.3 days; adult females lived for 7.9±3.3 (range, 2–13) days and produced a mean of 91.9±22.4 progeny per female, with a sex ratio of 1:2.9 (♂:♀). The intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) was 0.2558/female/day; the net reproductive rate (R0), 237.25; the capacity for increase (rc) of 0.252; and the finite rate of increase (λ) of 1.29/female/day; thus, each female contributed 231.42 individuals to the population in a mean generation time of 21.38 days.   相似文献

Nearly all F1 male mice with Dh/+ genotype between DDD female and DH–Dh/+ male die within a few days after birth; however, this is not observed in the reciprocal cross. The F1 Dh/+ males usually exhibit growth retardation prior to death. To identify the putative genetic locus or loci in DDD genome that cause the abnormalities in the presence of the Dh, a linkage analysis was carried out in backcross progeny of a cross of (DDD female × DH–+/+ male) F1 female × DH–Dh/+ male. Appearance of growth retardation was examined from the day of birth, and both growth-retarded and normally weaned Dh/+ males were genotyped for microsatellite marker loci spanning autosomes and the X Chromosome (Chr). Significant evidence for linkage was identified on the distal edge of the X Chr, near the microsatellite marker of DXMit135. Furthermore, among mice from DDD female × reciprocal F1 Dh/+ male produced between DH–Dh/+ and progenitor strains (C57BL/6J, C3H/HeJ and BALB/cA), only the progeny from ♀DDD ×♂(♀DH–Dh/+×♂C3H/HeJ) F1 Dh/+ male did not show any lethality and/or growth retardation. Thus, the lethality in F1 Dh/+ males accompanied by growth retardation is caused by the interactions between the Dh gene, X Chr, and Y Chr. Based on the CAG repeat sequence length polymorphism among Mus musculus musculus Sry gene, C3H/HeJ was different from C57BL/6J, BALB/cA, and DH. These data suggest that there are at least two functional types of Y Chr in Mus musculus musculus. Received: 22 January 1999 / Accepted: 5 April 1999  相似文献

Amblyseius barkeri (Hughes) fed onThrips tabaci (Lind.) at 25°C showed an average duration of 2.2, 0.8 and 3.2 days for the egg, larval and nymphal stages, with mortalities at 1.0, 1.0 and 3.1%, respectively. Females represented 63% of the population and required multiple matings for optimal fertility. The oviposition period was 20.3 days and the average oviposition rate 2.3 eggs per day. The intrinsic rate of increase was 0.22 per day. The expected life span was 29.6 days for ♀♀ and 27.4 days for ♂♂.A. barkeri ♂♂ and ♀♀ both consumed 3.3 nymphs of thrips per day (mean value for the feeding stages). The larva does not take up food. In the absence of thripsA. barkeri was able to consume two-spotted spider mites,Tetranychus urticae (Koch), and their eggs, adult broad mites,Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks), and pollen of various plants. Cannibalism was observed when food was lacking. Certain morphological features, egglaying, mating and predatory behaviour are described.   相似文献

Although numerous attempts have been made during the last five decades, no hybrids combining the qualities of the two commercially most important species have been released so far. Dry seeds of Corchorus capsularis L. var. D-154 and Corchorus olitorius L. var. C.G. were irradiated with gamma rays of various intensities from 70 Kr. to 100 Kr. and were sown in the field. Abnormal plants of the first generation showing bilobed and crinkled characters in their leaves induced by gamma rays were chosen as male parents. 300 crosses of different combinations were made. In all 120 fruits developed into maturity. All the seeds failed to germinate except those from the crosses ♀ C.G. (0 Kr.) × ♂ D-154 (80 Kr.) and ♀ D-154 (0 Kr.) × ♂ C.G. (70 Kr.). F1 plants from the cross ♀ C.G. (0 Kr.) × ♂ D-154 (80 Kr.) inherited the bilobed character of the male parent whereas the plants from the other cross failed to show any sign of inheritance of the male parent. This indicated that the plants from the cross ♀ C.G. (0 Kr.) × ♂ D-154 (80 Kr.) were hybrids. These hybrids attained a greater height than the controls and were highly fertile.  相似文献

Arrhenotokously reproducing Hymenoptera and Acarina include many important natural enemies. This reproductive system offers the opportunity of selection on hemizygous (♂ ♂), with the attendant advantages of an unmasked genotype fully exposed to selection, in creased frequency of genotypes expressing rare genes, and enhanced discrimination of characters, in all-♂ populations produced by virgin (♀ ♀). Increased selection intensity and reduced genetic drift may offer additional advantages. The method is limited to characters displayed by (♂ ♂), and may require labor-intensive techniques and species-specific research. The method has been shown to be practicable withAphytis holoxanthus DeBach (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), an important parasite of the Florida red scale,Chrysomphalus aonidum (L.) (Homoptera: Diaspididae).   相似文献

Crossing experiments were carried out between artificial pigmentation mutants and the wild type in Porphyra haitanensis Chang et Zheng to ascertain where meiosis occurs in its life history by confirming whether the color segregation and the color-sectored blades appear in F1 gametophytic blades developed from conchospores which are released from heterozygous conchocelis. Two red-type pigmentation mutants (R-10 and SPY-1) were used as the female parent. Their blades are red or red orange in color, thinner than the wild type and weak in elasticity, and have no denticles on their margins. The wild type (W) was used as the male parent; its blades are light brown in color, thick and good in elasticity, and have many marginal denticles. The F1 gametophytic blades developed from conchospores which were released from heterozygous conchocelis produced in the crosses of R-10(♀)×W(♂) and SPY-1(♀)×W(♂) showed two parental colors (R and W) and two new colors (R', lighter in color than R; W', wild-type-like color and redder than W). Linear segregation of colors occurred in the F1 blades, forming color-sectored blades with 2–4 sectors. In the color-sectored blades, R and R' sectors were thinner than W and W' sectors, and had weak elasticity and no denticles on their margins, whereas W and W' sectors were thick and had good elasticity and many marginal denticles. Of the F1 gametophytic blades, 95.2–96.7% were color-sectored and only 3.3–4.8% were unsectored. These results indicate that meiosis of P. haitanensis occurs during the first two cell divisions of a germinating conchospore, and thus it is considered that the initial four cells of a developing conchosporeling constitute a linear genetic tetrad leading to the formation of a color-sectored blade. The new colors of R' and W' were recombinant colors due to the chromosome recombination during the first cell division in meiosis. It is considered that color phenotypes of the two mutants used in this paper were result of two (or more) recessive mutations in different genes, and that they also have mutations concerned with blade thickness and formation of marginal denticles, which are linked with the color mutations.  相似文献

Laboratory bioassays of overwintering field populations of the California red scale parasitoidAphytis melinus DeBach showed a shift in sex ratio of F1 progeny after prolonged exposure to winter temperatures in Tulare County, California. In 7 of 8 tests, short-term winter field exposure (<75 days) did not result in a significant male bias in sex ratios of F1 progeny when compared to sex ratios observed in laboratory cultures maintained at 27°C. Long term exposure (109–139 days), however, resulted in significantly (P<0.05) higher male bias in F1 sex ratios in 5 of 6 tests. These results from field populations ofA. melinus agree with conclusions of low temperature laboratory tests onAphytis species (lingnanensis, melinus) by other workers.
