In vivo absorbance spectra were obtained for 12 species of tropical macroalgae. Absorbance of UV irradiance was greater than absorbance of photosynthetically active radiation in most algal taxa. UV irradiance may be pre-emptively captured by UV absorbing compounds as indicated by the significant relationship between in vivo and extract absorbance characteristics. In vivo and extract absorbance characteristics indicated that concentrations of UV absorbing compounds were highest among rhodophytes. Additionally, a marked consistency was observed in the visible spectral region, 400 to 750 nm, for in vivo absorbance and fourth derivative maxima for species within specific taxonomic divisions. For Gracilaria salicornia, pigment and photosynthetic performance acclimation paralleled the sun to shade irradiance gradient established by its mat-like morphology. Regression relationships of in vivo absorbance for phycoerythrin and carotenoid-specific maxima with I k , I c , and P max were significant and may have utility in modeling algal photosynthetic parameters. The photosynthetic and respiratory responses to irradiance, salinity and temperature of the red alga, Gracilaria vermiculophylla, collected from Kumamoto, Shizuoka and Iwate in Japan were studied using an electronic Dissolved Oxygen sensor. The parameters derived from the photosynthesis versus irradiance relationship indicated the potential to acclimate to broad irradiance variations in all of the populations of G. vermiculophylla collected from these three sites. In addition, the light-saturated photosynthesis rate (P max) and the dark respiration rate of all populations increased with increasing temperature up to 20–30°C, while the P max decreased at 35°C. All populations also showed a broad variation of photosynthetic responses to salinity changes in the range from 10 to 30 psu. On the other hand, the population from Iwate showed high photosynthetic efficiency, especially in the temperature range of 5–10°C, and showed low values of saturation irradiance compared to the populations from Shizuoka and Kumamoto. These results suggest that there is greater potential to acclimate to low irradiance and low temperature in the population from Iwate compared to those from the Shizuoka and Kumamoto populations. However, the P max of the populations from Iwate and Shizuoka was reached at 20°C and 25°C, respectively, while the Kumamoto population reached P max at 30°C. This implies that the latter population has greater potential to tolerate higher temperatures than the former. Such characteristics in photosynthesis and respiration of G. vermiculophylla collected from the three locations probably indicate an acclimation to prevailing environmental conditions in their respective habitats.  相似文献

The effects of shade on benthic calcareous periphyton were tested in a short-hydroperiod oligotrophic subtropical wetland (freshwater Everglades). The experiment was a split-plot design set in three sites with similar environmental characteristics. At each site, eight randomly selected 1-m2 areas were isolated individually in a shade house, which did not spectrally change the incident irradiance but reduced it quantitatively by 0, 30, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 98%. Periphyton mat was sampled monthly under each shade house for a 5 month period while the wetland was flooded. Periphyton was analyzed for thickness, DW, AFDW, chlorophyll a (chl a) and incubated in light and dark BOD bottles at five different irradiances to assess its photosynthesis–irradiance (PI) curve and respiration. The PI curves parameters P max, I k and eventually the photoinhibition slope (β) were determined following non-linear regression analyses. Taxonomic composition and total algal biovolume were determined at the end of the experiment. The periphyton composition did not change with shade but the PI curves were significantly affected by it. I k increased linearly with increasing percent irradiance transmittance (%IT = 1−%shade). P max could be fitted with a PI curve equation as it increased with %IT and leveled off after 10%IT. For each shade level, the PI curve was used to integrate daily photosynthesis for a day of average irradiance. The daily photosynthesis followed a PI curve equation with the same characteristics as P max vs. %IT. Thus, periphyton exhibited a high irradiance plasticity under 0–80% shade but could not keep up the same photosynthetic level at higher shade, causing a decrease in daily GPP at 98% shade levels. The plasticity was linked to an increase in the chl a content per cell in the 60–80% shade, while this increase was not observed at lower shade likely because it was too demanding energetically. Thus, chl a is not a good metric for periphyton biomass assessment across variously shaded habitats. It is also hypothesized that irradiance plasticity is linked to photosynthetic coupling between differently comprised algal layers arranged vertically within periphyton mats that have different PI curves.  相似文献

The phycoerythrin-deficient strain (green phenotype) of Hypnea musciformis (Rhodophyta) originated from a green branch, which had arisen as a spontaneous mutation in a wild plant (brown phenotype) collected from the Brazilian coast. The present study describes the growth responses to irradiance, photoperiod and temperature variations, pigment contents, and photosynthetic characteristics of the brown and green strains of H. musciformis. The results showed that growth rates increased as a function of irradiance (up to 40 μmol photons m−2 s−1) but, with further increase in irradiance (from 40 to 120 μmol photons m−2 s−1), became light-saturated and remained almost unchanged. The highest growth rates of the brown and green strains were observed in temperatures of 20–25°C under long (14:10 h LD) and short (10:14 h LD) photoperiods. The brown strain had higher growth rates than the green strain in the short photoperiod, which could be related to the high concentrations of phycobiliproteins. Phycoerythrin was not detected in the green strain. The brown strain had higher concentrations of allophycocyanin and phycoerythrin in the short photoperiod while the green strain had higher concentrations of phycocyanin. The brown strain presented higher photosynthetic efficiency (α), and lower saturation parameter (Ik) and compensation irradiance (Ic) than the green strain. The brown strain exhibited the characteristics of shade-adapted plants, and its higher value of photosynthetic efficiency could be attributed to the higher phycoerythrin concentrations. Results of the present study indicate that both colour strains of H. musciformis could be selected for aquaculture, since growth rates were similar (although in different optimal light conditions), as the green strain seems to be adapted to higher light levels than the brown strain. Furthermore, these colour strains could be a useful experimental system to understand the regulation of biochemical processes of photosynthesis and metabolism of light-harvesting pigments in red algae.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of growth irradiance (I) on photon-saturated photosynthetic rate (P max), dark respiration rate (R D), carboxylation efficiency (CE), and leaf mass per unit area (LMA) in seedlings of the following four tropical tree species with contrasting shade-tolerance. Anthocephalus chinensis (Rubiaceae) and Linociera insignis (Oleaceae) are light-demanding, Barringtonia macrostachya (Lecythidaceae) and Calophyllum polyanthum (Clusiaceae) are shade-tolerant. Their seedlings were pot-planted under shading nets with 8, 25, and 50 % daylight for five months. With increase of I, all species displayed the trends of increases of LMA, photosynthetic saturation irradiance, and chlorophyll-based P max, and decreases of chlorophyll (Chl) content on both area and mass bases, and mass-based P max, R D, and CE. The area-based P max and CE increased with I for the light-demanders only. Three of the four species significantly increased Chl-based CE with I. This indicated the increase of nitrogen (N) allocation to carboxylation enzyme relative to Chl with I. Compared to the two shade-tolerants, under the same I, the two light-demanders had greater area- and Chl-based P max, photosynthetic saturation irradiance, lower Chl content per unit area, and greater plasticity in LMA and area- or Chl-based P max. Our results support the hypothesis that light-demanding species is more plastic in leaf morphology and physiology than shade-tolerant species, and acclimation to I of tropical seedlings is more associated with leaf morphological adjustment relative to physiology. Leaf nitrogen partitioning between photosynthetic enzymes and Chl also play a role in the acclimation to I.  相似文献

Parameters of photosynthesis vs. irradiance curves varied markedly between tissues from microsites along the < 10-cm axes of the tropical intertidal red algae Ahnfeltiopsis concinna (J. Ag.) Silva et DeCew and Laurencia mcdermidiae (J. Ag.) Abbott. Differences in photosynthetic performance between tissues from canopy and understory microsites indicates that L. mcdermidiae exhibited an expected sun-to-shade acclimation but over the space of < 10 cm. Respiration, Ic, Ik, and Pmax values were significantly lower in tissues from the understory relative to tissues from the canopy of L. mcdermidiae, while photosystem I (PS I) sizes (PSU I) were significantly higher in tissues from understory microsites. Quantum efficiency was unchanged. Ahnfeltiopsis concinna, in contrast, exhibited higher α in tissues from understory rather than canopy microsites. The values of Pmax for tissues from the canopy of A. concinna were not higher than the understory, while PSU O2(PS II size) of tissues from canopy microsites were unusually higher than those of understory microsites. These characteristics suggest a high degree of irradiance stress in tissues from the canopy of A. concinna, the highest tidal alga in Hawaiian coastal zones. Acclimation to high photosynthetically active radiation and ultraviolet irradiance levels especially in tropical regions appears to be an essential mechanism(s) for stress resistance and persistence of intertidal algae. Algal turfs acclimate at microscales in part fostered by their dense stands that create sharp irradiance gradients as well as adjust physiologically to canopy irradiance levels as mechanisms for optimal photosynthetic performance and stress tolerance.  相似文献

Benthic algal communities can play an important role in matter and energy flux of shallow lakes. Their contribution to total primary production of lakes has been largely unexplored. The aim of this study was to estimate the primary production of the epipsammic algal communities at different water depths in Lake Balaton (Hungary) with photosynthetic measurements performed in laboratory. The photosynthesis of the benthic algae of different origin was studied at nine different irradiance levels, in three replicates. The maximum photosynthetic rate (P max) was always higher in samples from the shallow parts than those from the deeper regions of the lake. Along the west–east longitudinal axis of the lake P max decreased in the southern part and increased in the middle of the lake as a consequence of differences in the chlorophyll-a concentrations. Knowing P max, I k, global radiation and extinction coefficient, the primary production (mg C m−2 day−1) of the epipsammic algal community was calculated at different water depths. In the shallow regions at 0.5 and 1 m water depth 75–95% and 60–85% of the production was attributable to the epipsammon. The percentage contribution of epipsammon was at 2 m water depth 20–65%. In the deeper pelagic region (>3 m) more than 85% of the primary production originated from the phytoplankton.  相似文献

In winter of 2009/2010, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae bloomed in the ice and snow covered oligo-mesotrophic Lake Stechlin, Germany. The photosynthesis of the natural population was measured at eight temperatures in the range of 2–35°C, at nine different irradiance levels in the range of 0–1,320 μmol m−2 s−1 PAR at each applied temperature. The photoadaptation parameter (I k) and the maximum photosynthetic rate (P max) correlated positively with the temperature between 2 and 30°C, and there was a remarkable drop in both parameters at 35°C. The low I k at low temperatures enabled the active photosynthesis of overwintering populations at low irradiance levels under ice and snow cover. The optimum of the photosynthesis was above 20°C at irradiances above 150 μmol m−2 s−1. At lower irradiance levels (7.5–30 μmol m−2 s−1), the photosynthesis was the most intensive in the temperature range of 2–5°C. The interaction between light and temperature allowed the proliferation of A. flos-aquae in Lake Stechlin resulting in winter water bloom in this oligo-mesotrophic lake. The applied 2°C is the lowest experimental temperature ever in the photosynthesis/growth studies of A. flos-aquae, and the results of the P–I and P–T measurements provide novel information about the tolerance and physiological plasticity of this species.  相似文献

Chlorophyll (Chl) content, dry mass, relative water content (RWC), leaf mass per area (LMA), proline (Pro) content, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activity, P N-PAR response curves and gas exchange were studied to determine the effects of water stress on photosynthetic activity, dry mass partitioning and metabolic changes in four provenances of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss). The results indicated that provenance differences existed in the adaptation response to water stress that included changes to growth strategies coupled with ecophysiological and metabolic adjustments. As water stress increased, stomatal conductance (g s), net photosynthetic rate (P N), transpiration rate (E), and leaf RWC decreased while LMA increased in all provenances. Dry mass was reduced in droughted plants and the percentage increased in dry mass allocated to roots, and enzyme activities of SOD and POD were highest in neem originating from Kalyani (KA) provenance and lowest in neem originating from New Dehli (ND) provenance. In contrast, water stress increased MDA content least in KA and most in ND. Furthermore, neem originating from ND also had the greatest decrease in Chl a/b ratio while the ratio was least affected in neem originating from KA. These findings suggest neem originating from KA may have more drought resistance than neem originating from ND. The data from P N-PAR response curves are less clear. While these curves showed that drought stress increased compensation irradiance (I c) and dark respiration (R D) and decreased saturation irradiance (I s) and maximum net photosynthetic rate (P max), the extent of decline in P max was provenance dependent. P max under non-waterlimiting conditions was higher in neem originating from Jodhpur (MA) (about 14 μmol m−2 s−1) than in the other three provenances (all about 10 μmol m−2 s−1), but mild water stress had minimal effect on P max of these three provenances whereas P max of MA provenance declined to 10 μmol m−2 s−1, i.e. a similar value. However, under severe water stress P max of MA and KA provenances had declined to 40% of non-stressed values (about 6 and 4 μmol m−2 s−1, respectively) whereas the decline in P max of neem originating from Kulapachta (KU) and ND provenances was about 50% of nonstressed values (about 5 μmol m−2 s−1). These data suggest the P N responses of KU and ND provenances are most tolerant, and KA and MA least tolerant to increasing water stress, but also suggest MA provenance could be the most desired under both non-water-limiting and water-limiting conditions due to highest P max in all conditions.  相似文献

The model couples stomatal conductance (g s) and net photosynthetic rate (P N) describing not only part of the curve up to and including saturation irradiance (I max), but also the range above the saturation irradiance. Maximum stomatal conductance (g smax) and I max can be calculated by the coupled model. For winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) the fitted results showed that maximum P N (P max) at 600 μmol mol−1 was more than at 350 μmol mol−1 under the same leaf temperature, which can not be explained by the stomatal closure at high CO2 concentration because g smax at 600 μmol mol−1 was less than at 350 μmol mol−1. The irradiance-response curves for winter wheat had similar tendency, e.g. at 25 °C and 350 μmol mol−1 both P N and g s almost synchronously reached the maximum values at about 1 600 μmol m−2 s−1. At 25 °C and 600 μmol mol−1 the I max corresponding to P max and g smax was 2 080 and 1 575 μmol m−2 s−1, respectively.  相似文献

The photosynthetic activity of epilithon grown in the Torna-stream (Hungary) was studied. Samples were collected from natural sections with closed canopy and natural stream bed and from modified sections with trapezoid river bed and shores lacking riparian vegetation. We assumed that human modifications would have a significant impact on epilithic photosynthesis, and therefore expected to observe corresponding changes in photosynthesis–irradiance (P–I) parametric. The laboratory P–I measurements were carried out monthly between April 2008 and September 2009 with epilithon after 3 weeks of in situ colonization. The maximum rate of the photosynthesis (P max) correlated positively with the chlorophyll a content of the samples. Natural sites had lower biomass and P max values than modified sites, and the biomass differed substantially in spring and summer, the P max differed significantly only in spring. Natural sections had higher biomass-specific photosynthesis values than modified sections in all seasons, but the difference was significant only in summer–autumn: in summer the samples from the natural sections had significantly higher photosynthetic efficiency. In spring and summer, the photoadaptation parameters (I k ) of communities grown in modified sections were substantially higher than in natural sections. Light availability appeared to be the major factor regulating the seasonal photosynthetic activity of epilithic communities.  相似文献

Responses of photosynthetic rates, determined by oxygen evolution using the light and dark bottles technique, to different temperatures, irradiances, pH, and diurnal rhythm were analyzed under laboratory conditions in four charophyte species (Chara braunii Gmelin, C. guairensis R. Bicudo, Nitella subglomerata A. Braun and Nitella sp.) from lotic habitats in southeastern Brazil. Parameters derived from the photosynthesis versus irradiance curves indicated affinity to low irradiances for all algae tested. Some degree of photoinhibition, [β= ‐(0.30–0.13) mg O2 g?1 dry weight Ir1 (μmol photons m?2 s?1)?1], low light compensation points (Ic= 4–20 μmol photons m?2 s?1) were found for all species analyzed, as well as low values of light saturation parameter (Ik) and saturation (Is) 29–130 and 92–169 μmol photons m?2 s?1, respectively. Photoacclimation was observed in two populations of N. subglomerata collected from sites with different irradiances, consisting of variations in photosynthetic parameters (higher values of a, and lower of Ik and maximum photosynthetic rate, Pmax, in the population under lower irradiance). The highest photosynthetic rates for Chara species were observed at 10–15°C, while for Nitella the highest photosynthetic rate was observed at 20–25°C, despite the lack of significant differences among most levels tested. Rates of dark respiration significantly increase with temperature, with the highest values at 25°C. The results from pH experiments showed highest photosynthetic rates under pH 4.0 for all algae, suggesting higher affinity for inorganic carbon in the form of carbon dioxide, except in one population of N. subglomerata, with similar rates under the three levels, suggesting indistinct use of bicarbonate and carbon dioxide. Diurnal changes in photosynthetic rates revealed a general pattern for most algae tested, which was characterized by two peaks: the first (higher) during the morning (07.00–11.00) and the second (lower) in the afternoon (14.00–17.00). This suggests an endogenous rhythm determining the daily variations in photosynthetic rates.  相似文献

The growth rate and CO2 biofixation rate of a photosynthetic organism depend basically on the availability of light, all other factors being optimum. In dense cultures of cyanobacteria or micro-algae intended for biomass production, incident irradiance on the reactor surface is not the same as the intensity which is received by cells, as irradiance is attenuated by cell absorption and the self-shading effect. In a well-mixed, dense culture, only the average irradiance, I av, can be considered responsible for the photosynthetic response. In this study, the photosynthetic response of Synechocystis sp., estimated from its specific growth rate, was measured for each I av in batch cultures irradiated with different levels of external irradiance, I ext. The specific growth rate of Synechocystis sp. depends on I av, in accordance with the model proposed by Muller-Feuga (J Exp Mar Biol Ecol 236:1–13, 1999). A non-linear regression analysis estimated a maximum specific growth rate of 0.108 h−1, at an I av of 930 μmol photons·m−2·s−1. This reveals that Synechocystis sp. is a highly light-tolerant strain, suitable for outdoor cultures. Higher I av levels caused photoinhibition in batch cultures. Parameters obtained from the Muller-Feuga model show that the minimum irradiance needed to start growth mechanisms becomes less as light availability decreases, i.e. cells become more efficient in the use of light when it is scarce. This observation suggests that choosing for low-light adaptation may be a good strategy to improve productivity in dense cultures, where light is a limiting factor.  相似文献

Leaf mass per unit area (LMA), carbon and nitrogen contents, leaf construction cost, and photosynthetic capacity (P max) of Adiantum reniforme var. sinensis, an endangered fern endemic to the Three Gorges region in southwest China, were compared in five populations differing in habitat such as soil moisture and irradiance. The low soil moisture and high irradiance habitat population exhibited significantly higher LMA, area-based leaf construction (CCA), and carbon content (CA), but lower leaf nitrogen content per unit dry mass (NM) than the other habitat populations. The high soil moisture and low irradiance habitat populations had the lowest CCA, but their cost/benefic ratios of CCA/P max were similar to the medium soil moisture and irradiance habitat population due to their lower leaf P max. Hence A. reniforme var. sinensis prefers partially shaded, moist but well-drained, slope habitats. Due to human activities, however, its main habitats now are cliffs or steeply sloped bare rocks with poor and thin soil. The relatively high energy requirements and low photosynthetic capacity in these habitats could limit the capability of the species in extending population or interspecific competition and hence increase its endangerment.  相似文献

Physical–chemical variables, phytoplankton biomass, speciescomposition and photosynthesis–irradiance (P-I) parameterswere analysed during 1 year in the Santo André Lagoon,SouthwestPortugal – a land-locked coastal ecosystem withtemporary connections with the sea. When the lagoon stayed closedthe observed phytoplankton blooms were mainly caused by Prorocentrumminimum, a potentially toxic dinoflagellate. It was dominantduring most of the year but the seawater inflow to the lagoontriggered a decrease in phytoplankton biomass and an abruptshift in species composition. The maximum photosynthetic rate(Pmax) ranged from 2.0 to 22.5 mg C (mg chlorophyll a)–1h–1 and the light saturation index (Ik), ranged from 5.2to 335.0 µE m–2 s–1, with winter minima andsummer maxima. Pmax and Ik were both positively correlated totemperature. Abundance ofP. minimum was associated with highnitrate concentrations whereas diatoms appear when ammonium, salinity and wind velocity are high. A mathematical model todescribe photosynthetic rate as a function of irradiance andtemperature [P (I, t)] was applied to the samples in which P.minimum was the dominant species  相似文献

The calculated maximum net photosynthetic rate (P N) at saturation irradiance (I m) of 1 314.13 μmol m−2 s−1 was 25.49 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1, and intrinsic quantum yield at zero irradiance was 0.103. The results fitted by nonrectangular hyperbolic model, rectangular hyperbolic method, binomial regression method, and the new model were compared. The maximum P N values calculated by nonrectangular hyperbolic model and rectangular hyperbolic model were higher than the measured values, and the I m calculated by nonrectangular hyperbolic model and rectangular hyperbolic model were less than measured values. Results fitted by new model showed that the response curve of P N to I was nonlinear at low I for Oryza sativa, P N increased nonlinearly with I below saturation value. Above this value, P N decreased nonlinearly with I.  相似文献

One-year-old oak (Quercus mongolica Fisch.) seedlings were grown in growth chambers for 30 days to investigate the effects of the combination of elevated CO2 concentration ([CO2], 700 μmol/mol) and temperature (ambient T + 4°C) and only elevated temperature (ambient T +4°C) on leaf gas exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence, and chlorophyll content. In the growth chambers, natural conditions of the Maoershan mountain regions of Heilongjiang Province (45–46°N, 127–128°E) of China for the average growth season were simulated. The results showed that the maximum net photosynthetic rate (P Nmax) was ≈ 1.64 times greater at elevated temperature than at ambient temperature. The irradiance saturation point (I s), apparent quantum yield (AQY), maximum photosystem II efficiency (F v/F m), and chlorophyll content significantly increased, while irradiance compensation point (I c) was not affected by elevated temperature. The combination of elevated [CO2] and temperature also significantly increased P Nmax by approximately 34% but much lower than that under elevated temperature only. In the case of factor combination, dark respiration (R d), I c, F v/F m, and total chlorophyll content increased significantly, while I s and AQY were not affected. Moreover, under elevated [CO2] and temperature, R d and I c, F v/F m were significantly higher than under elevated temperature only. The results indicated that the combination of elevated [CO2] and temperature expected in connection with the further global climate change may affect carbon storage of the coenotype of Q. mongolica in this region of China. Anabaena sp., isolated from a rice paddy, was investigated for its nitrogen fixation as measured by acetylene reduction activity (ARA) in P-limited continuous and light-limited semi-continuous cultures. Growth rate (μ) under P limitation was a function of cell P content (q p). Both the photosynthetic capacity (Pmax) and photosynthetic efficiency (α) increased with μ when expressed per cell, but not per unit chla. The ARA of steady-state cells under P limitation increased with μ and was linearly related to C-fixation rate. This was apparently a consequence of the control of C-fixation by P limitation. In light-limited cells, steady state ARA, both at the culture light intensity and in the dark, increased asymptotically with μ, but the activity in the dark was only about 51% of that in the light. When the light level of steady-state cells grown at a high in intensity was switched to a low level, ARA decreased exponentially with time. Dark ARA activity also showed a similar decline, but at much lower levels. Thus, ARA depended not only on light history, but also immediate photosynthesis. Steady-state ARA at the ambient intensity or in the dark showed a strong correlation with14C-fixation rate. ARA of light-limited cells showed the same light-saturation characteristics as their14C-fixation, with the same initial saturation intensity,I k. The ratios of Pmax to the maximum ARA (ARAmax), and α to the slope of ARA (αara) were identical. A comparison of gross to net photosynthesis and N2 fixation suggested that there was little leakage or excretion of fixed C or N.  相似文献

Allometric relationships of phytoplankton communities were studied on the basis of a five-year data-set in a deep oligotrophic alpine lake in Austria. The seasonal phytoplankton succession in Mondsee is characterised by diatoms during winter mixing and a distinct metalimnetic population of Planktothrix rubescens during stratification in summer. The variation of phytoplankton photosynthetic efficiency between seasons was assessed using in situ carbon-uptake rates (5 years data) and Fast Repetition Rate Fluorometry (FRRF) (2 years data). The light-saturated, chlorophyll-specific rate of photosynthesis (P*max), irradiance at the onset of saturation (E k) and maximum light-utilisation efficiency (α*) were determined for winter mixing and summer stratification. Fluorescence-based parameters as the functional absorption cross section of Photosystem II (σ PSII) and the photochemical quantum yield (F v/F m) were additionally analysed in 2003 and 2004 to study the underlying physiological mechanisms for the variability in photosynthetic performance. Beyond their sensitivity to changing environmental conditions like thermal stratification, phytoplankton populations differ in their photosynthetic behaviour according to their size structure. Therefore Photosynthesis vs. Irradiance (P/E)-relationships were analysed in detail within a 1-year period from size fractionated cell counts, chlorophyll-a and carbon-uptake.  相似文献

The physiological differences for three bloom-forming cyanobacteria (Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, Microcystis aeruginosa, and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) were investigated. In comparison with M. aeruginosa and A. flos-aquae, C. raciborskii exhibited a significantly higher concentration of carotenoids, higher values in maximum photosynthesis rate (Pm), apparent photosynthetic efficieny (a), and maximum electron transport rate (ETRmax) during the growth period. In addition, higher extracellular alkaline phosphatase activities and lower light compensation point (Ic) were also detected in C. raciborskii (p < 0.05, ANOVA). Therefore, it is suggested that the higher photosynthetic activities, more effective uptake and utilization to phosphate, and low light requirements might play important roles in the occurrence and invasive behavior of C. raciborskii.  相似文献
