In order to understand the hormonal interactions throughout the reproductive phases (non-breeding, progressive, breeding and regressive) of a sub-tropical avian species, the male common myna ( Acriodotheres tristis ), hormones like epinephrine (E), norepinephrine (NE), corticosterone, tri-iodothyronine (T 3 ), thyroxine (T 4 ) and testosterone (along with testicular sialic acid) were quantitated. Histometry and histology of the testis and adrenal glands were also performed. It became evident that a parallel relationship exists between the reproductive phases of the common myna and levels of the hormones E, NE, corticosterone, T 3 , T 4 and testosterone. Considering the ambient climatological conditions, it is suggested that primarily daylength and secondarily humidity control the gonadal cycle of this species.  相似文献

Characteristics of the lunar reproductive cycle in the golden rabbitfish, Siganus guttatus, were determined by histological observations of ovarian development, and immunological measurements of plasma steroid hormones, estradiol-17beta (E2), testosterone (T), 17alpha,20beta-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP) and 17alpha,20beta,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (20beta-S), and vitellogenin (VTG). Ovarian and plasma samples were collected every week according to the lunar phases from May to July. Weekly change of gonadosomatic index (GSI) showed two peaks at the first lunar quarter in June and July. Yolky oocytes were also observed around this time. Histological observations revealed that the vitellogenic oocytes appeared again 1 week after spawning and developed synchronously. These results suggest that this species is a multiple spawner and the oocyte development is in a group-synchronous manner. Plasma steroid hormones (E2, T, DHP and 20beta-S) and VTG levels changed in parallel with changes in GSI. The peak of plasma VTG level occurred prior to spawning. These cyclic changes of plasma steroid hormones and VTG support the hypothesis that lunar periodicity is the major factor in stimulating reproductive activity of S. guttatus.  相似文献

The effect of pinealectomy and exogenous melatonin on circadian rhythm of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxin (T4), corticosterone and testosterone in sham-operated and pinealectomized rats were investigated. The hormones concentration were RIA-measured and the circadian rhythm secretion were analysed by cosinor method. The findings suggest that pinealectomy abolishes the rhythmical character of corticosterone secretion and disturbs the circadian rhythm of T3, T4 and testosterone. Exogenous melatonin has the suppressive effect of diurnal secretion of T3, T4 and testosterone in pinealectomized rats but stimulates the rhythmical corticosterone secretion.  相似文献

Despite considerable research on hormone-mediated maternal effects in birds, the underlying physiology remains poorly understood. This study investigated a potential regulation mechanism for differential accumulation of gonadal hormones in bird eggs. Across vertebrates, glucocorticoids can suppress reproduction by downregulating gonadal hormones. Using the chicken as a model species, we therefore tested whether elevated levels of plasma corticosterone in female birds influence the production of gonadal steroids by the ovarian follicles and thus the amount of reproductive hormones in the egg yolk. Adult laying hens of two different strains (ISA brown and white Leghorn) were implanted subcutaneously with corticosterone pellets that elevated plasma corticosterone concentrations over a period of nine days. Steroid hormones were subsequently quantified in plasma and yolk. Corticosterone-implanted hens of both strains had lower plasma progesterone and testosterone levels and their yolks contained less progesterone and testosterone. The treatment also reduced egg and yolk mass. Plasma estrogen concentrations decreased in white Leghorns only whereas in both strains yolk estrogens were unaffected. Our results demonstrate for the first time that maternal plasma corticosterone levels influence reproductive hormone concentrations in the yolk. Maternal corticosterone could therefore mediate environmentally induced changes in yolk gonadal hormone concentrations. In addition, stressful situations experienced by the bird mother might affect the offspring via reduced amounts of reproductive hormones present in the egg as well as available nutrients for the embryo.  相似文献

Behavioral and endocrine changes associated with reproductive events were studied in free-living female house sparrows (Passer domesticus). Circulating levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E2) were maximal during egg-laying, declined during incubation, and began to rise during the nestling stage. This pattern was repeated three to five times during the prolonged breeding season of this species. Multivariate statistical analysis demonstrated that elevated levels of LH and E2 were associated with maximal sexual activity, high rates of intrusion at nests by conspecifics, and elevated rates of agonistic activity. Patterns of sexual activity varied during the season and perhaps reflected differing strategies for protecting paternity adopted by the male. Curiously, elevated levels of testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) were not associated with high levels of intrusion or agonistic response, but rather were associated with incubation stages. As in males, concentrations of corticosterone (B) were high during each egg-laying and nestling stage and were associated with high or rising levels of reproductive hormones, suggesting that reproductive activity was not overly stressful to these birds. Body mass and fat depots declined during the season and may regulate termination of reproduction. It appears that access to abundant food resources found in association with human dwellings allows house sparrows to maintain reproductive activity longer than most other temperate-zone dwelling bird species.  相似文献

Human activities increase the occurrence of aquatic hypoxia (low dissolved oxygen) globally. In fishes, short term hypoxia impairs multiple stages of reproduction (e.g., behavior, hormones, development), but no studies have investigated a species that lives and reproduces under hypoxia. This study examines the effects of hypoxia on sex hormones in the mouth brooding African cichlid Pseudocrenilabrus multicolor victoriae. Non-invasive measures of testosterone and estradiol levels in females were collected across the reproductive cycle in the laboratory, and at the time of capture in the field. In the laboratory, hormone levels were higher during pre-brooding (T=1.06, E2=1.62pg/mL/h) than brooding (T=0.61, E2=0.34pg/mL/h) or post-brooding (T=0.53, E2=0.51pg/mL/h) phases, but did not differ between hypoxic (1.2±0.0mg/L) and normoxic (7.3±0.1mg/L) populations. In the field, females were sampled from one low and one high oxygen population in two regions in Uganda (Mpanga River, Nabugabo Region). In both regions, hypoxic populations exhibited higher levels of testosterone than well-oxygenated populations, although there was no population level difference in estradiol levels. Hypoxic sites were also characterized by a higher testosterone/estradiol ratio and a lower proportion of brooding females. These results provide field evidence of hypoxia-mediated endocrine disruption in a fish species that experiences lifelong hypoxia.  相似文献

Stress and reproduction are generally thought to work in opposition to one another. This is often manifested as reciprocal relationships between glucocorticoid stress hormones and sex steroid hormones. However, seasonal differences in how animals respond to stressors have been described in extreme environments. We tested the hypothesis that garter snakes, Thamnophis sirtalis, with limited reproductive opportunities will suppress their hormonal stress response during the breeding season relative to conspecifics with an extended breeding season. The red-sided garter snake, T.s. parietalis, of Manitoba, Canada, has a brief breeding season during which males displayed no change in either plasma levels of testosterone or corticosterone, which were both elevated above basal levels, in response to capture stress. During the summer, capture stress resulted in increased plasma corticosterone and decreased testosterone. During the fall, when mating can also occur, males exhibited a significant decrease in testosterone but no increase in corticosterone in response to capture stress. The red-spotted garter snake, T.s. concinnus, of western Oregon, has an extended breeding season during which males displayed a stress response of increased plasma corticosterone and decreased testosterone levels. The corticosterone response to capture stress was similar during the spring, summer, and fall. In contrast, the testosterone response was suppressed during the summer and fall when gametogenesis was occurring. These data suggest that male garter snakes, in both populations, seasonally adapt their stress response but for different reasons and by potentially different mechanisms. J. Exp. The administration of adult physiological levels of testosterone (T) and 17beta-estradiol (E(2)) to male Siberian hamsters was previously shown to delay the onset of puberty. To examine whether this is a response common to other rodents, we investigated whether exogenous steroids also alter the onset of puberty in Syrian hamsters and mice. Juvenile male Syrian hamsters and mice were implanted with Silastic capsules containing T, E(2), or cholesterol control. After 15 days, plasma, pituitaries, and testes were processed for histological analysis or measurements of gonadotropins and circulating steroid hormones. T and E(2) implants reduced testis mass and gonadotropin stores in both species and arrested spermatogenesis in Syrian hamsters. In contrast, spermatogenesis in mice was unaffected by T and only modestly affected by E(2). Although E(2) inhibited circulating follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in both species, T inhibited circulating FSH in mice only. Overall, our results demonstrate that the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis of each rodent species responds uniquely to T and E(2) during the pubertal transition. Despite the highly varied effects of T and E(2) in these two species, the ability of steroid hormones to disrupt the onset of puberty appears to be a feature common to many rodents.  相似文献

It is unusual for seasonal breeders to frequently skip opportunities for reproduction. We investigated the relationship between physiological state and reproductive decision-making in Galápagos marine iguanas (Amblyrhynchus cristatus), a species in which females typically reproduce biennially, although the proportion of breeding individuals varies significantly across years. Nearly all adult-sized females initiated follicular development prior to the lekking period, but 38% of females resorbed all developing follicles 5-15 days before the start of copulations. Receptive and non-receptive females differed in reproductive hormones during the mate choice period. Testosterone peaked in receptive females immediately prior to copulation, indicating that testosterone or its derivative estradiol likely mediates female receptivity in Galápagos marine iguanas. Non-receptive females showed significant peaks in both testosterone and progesterone during follicular atresia, suggesting that these hormones may be involved in inhibiting vitellogenesis. Two to three weeks prior to the period of reproductive decision-making (and the onset of follicular atresia in non-receptive females) receptive females were in higher body condition, were developing larger follicles, and had lower levels of both baseline and stress-induced corticosterone. Reproduction is extremely costly in this long-lived species, and increases the likelihood of mortality in the year following breeding; females could therefore gain significant benefits from being attuned to indicators of reproductive success. We suggest that corticosterone may modulate reproductive decisions by altering individual sensitivity to both internal and external cues of the likelihood of successful reproduction.  相似文献

In vitro effects of gonadal hormones (testosterone, 17beta-estradiol estriol and estrone) and corticosteroid hormones (corticosterone and cortisol) were studied on arylalklyamine N-acetyltransferase (AA-NAT) activity in the pineal organ of the fish, C. gariepinus during quiescent, progressive, breeding and regressive phases of its annual breeding cycle. The pineals were collected under dim red light, maintained in organ culture for 7 hr and incubated with three concentrations (10(-6), 10(-5) and 10(-4) M) of hormones for 6 hr. The treatments with gonadal hormones and corticosteroid hormones inhibited pineal AA-NAT activity in a dose-dependent manner during all the phases of the breeding cycle. AA-NAT activity was comparatively more sensitive to the inhibitory effects of the gonadal hormones during the regressive phase and less sensitive during the quiescent phase. Further, the enzyme activity was more sensitive to the inhibitory effects of corticosteroid hormones (corticosterone and cortisol) during the breeding phase and less sensitive during the quiescent phase. These findings seem to suggest that gonadal hormones and corticosteroid hormones have direct inhibitory influence on AA-NAT activity and, hence melatonin synthesis in the photoreceptive pineal organ of C. gariepinus.  相似文献

Among rodents that carry hantaviruses, males are more likely to engage in aggression and to be infected than females. One mode of hantavirus transmission is via the passage of virus in saliva during wounding. The extent to which hantaviruses cause physiological changes in their rodent host that increase aggression and, therefore, virus transmission has not been fully documented. To assess whether steroid hormones and neurotransmitters contribute to the correlation between aggression and Seoul virus infection, Norway rats were trapped in Baltimore, Maryland and wounding, infection status, steroid hormones, and concentrations of neurotransmitters, including norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), 3,4-dihydroxyphenol acetic acid (DOPAC), serotonin (5-HT), and 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA) in select brain regions were examined. Older males and males with high-grade wounds were more likely to have anti-Seoul virus IgG and viral RNA in organs than either juveniles or adult males with less severe wounds. Wounded males had higher circulating testosterone, lower hypothalamic 5-HIAA, and lower NE in the amygdala than males with no wounds. Infected males had higher concentrations of testosterone, corticosterone, NE in the hypothalamus, and DOPAC in the amygdala than uninfected males, regardless of wounding status. In the present study, wounded males that were infected with Seoul virus had elevated testosterone and reduced 5-HIAA concentrations, suggesting that these neuroendocrine mechanisms may contribute to aggression and the likelihood of transmission of hantavirus in natural populations of male Norway rats.  相似文献

The Yunnan snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus bieti) is one of the most endangered species in the world, and it is endemic to China. According to our knowledge, there was no information on reproduction for this species. The present study was designed to understand the characteristics of reproductive hormone secretion during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy of this species by monitoring urinary estrone conjugate (E1C), pregnanediol-3-glucuronide (PdG), bioactive follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). The urine samples were collected each day from four adult females for eight menstrual cycles, and once in 3 days during pregnancy (three full-term pregnancies, one mid-term abortion). The steroid conjugate was tested by radioimmunoassays (RIAs), and bioactive FSH and LH levels were measured in vitro by the sensitive bioassays granulosa cell aromatize bioassay (GAB) and rat interstitial cell testosterone (RICT), respectively. The results showed that: 1) E1C presented a preovulatory peak (183.9 +/- 8.6 ng/mgCr) followed by a definite elevation of PdG; 2) PdG in the luteal phase (754.4 +/- 30.6 ng/mgCr) was three- to fivefold higher than during the corresponding follicular phase (198.3 +/- 11.4 ng/mgCr); 3) the peaks of bio-LH and bio-FSH were on the same day, while the E1C peak was 1 or 2 days before the peaks for these two hormones; 4) bio-FSH levels were higher in the follicular phase than in the luteal phase, and bio-LH levels elevated slightly in the luteal phase; 5) the mean cycle length was 23.6 +/- 3.5 days (n = 3) based upon successive urinary LH peaks; 6) based on the interval from the day of E1C peak to the day of parturition, the gestation was 203.7 +/- 2.5 days (n = 3); and 7) both E1C and PdG increased and remained high after pregnancy, with a sharp decrease in basal levels following parturition or mid-term abortion. The results suggested that the pattern of reproductive hormones for R. bieti is similar to that of other Old World monkeys, but the concentration of the hormones is different from that of other species. This species has a longer progestation period, which may be related to its classification status.  相似文献

The influence of acute endotoxin (Endo) administration on adrenal and testicular serum hormones, corticosterone (B), progesterone (P4), 17 alpha OH progesterone (17 alpha OH P4), androstenedione (delta 4), testosterone (T), estrone (E1) and estradiol (E2) was studied in male rats aged 8, 12 and 15 weeks. The present study confirms that the concentrations of circulating steroid hormones in male rats vary with age, and indicate that the adrenal glands mature before the testes. The steroid response to Endo is age-dependent. B, P4, 17 alpha OH P4 was increased and T decreased in all animals. But, there was a very significant increase in estrogens (E1 and E2) and a decrease in delta 4 only in male rats aged 12 weeks and over. The lack of an estrogen response to Endo injection in 8 week-old rats may indicate that the reduced sensitivity (refractory period) to Endo (which has been reported to last until 21 days of age) continues longer. The reduced sensitivity to Endo which occurs in young rats could be due in part to the absence of adrenal-testicular cooperation as a result of partial testicular immaturity.  相似文献

Intravenous administration of Escherichia coli endotoxin (ENDO) was found to induce profound time and dose dependent changes in the serum steroid hormones, oestrone (E1), oestradiol (E2), corticosterone (B), progesterone (P4), 17 alpha-OH progesterone (17 alpha OHP4), and testosterone (T) of intact male rats. These changes were rapid, with a maximal response at 2 h and a return to close to normal values by 4 h. Non-lethal doses (0.01-2 mg/kg) of ENDO induced large increases in oestrogens (3-9-fold), P4 (4-fold) and B (2-3-fold) and decreased serum T (2-fold). The greatest increase in E2 level was seen with an ENDO dose of 2 mg/kg. Serum E1, E2 and T did not change in response to lethal ENDO doses (4-8 mg/kg); B, P4 and 17 alpha OHP4 levels alone were moderately elevated. Systemic mean arterial pressure was unchanged, except at the highest ENDO dose used. Thus, the hormonal responses are unlikely to be the result of hemodynamic changes. Low doses of ENDO did not produce an increase in serum E1 and E2 in adrenalectomized or orchidectomized rats. These results indicate that oestrogens are largely produced in the testis. The aromatization of the testicular and adrenal androgens can be stimulated by glucocorticoid.  相似文献

Animals often exhibit individual variation in their behavioral responses to the same stimuli in the biotic or abiotic environment. To elucidate the endocrine mechanisms mediating such behavioral variation, we have been studying a species of lizard with two distinct male phenotypes. Here we document behavioral variation across years in one of the two male phenotypes of the tree lizard, Urosaurus ornatus, and present hormone data that support an endocrine mechanism underlying this behavioral variation. Nonterritorial male tree lizards appear to be nomadic rovers in some years and sedentary satellites in others, whereas territorial males are always territorial. This behavioral variation by nonterritorial males was correlated with environmental conditions. In environmentally harsher years (as assessed by rainfall), nonterritorial males appear to behave as nomads, whereas in more benign years they are more site-faithful. A between-year comparison of levels of corticosterone and testosterone for the two male phenotypes supports a model for how hormones underlie the males' reproductive tactics, particularly the nonterritorial males' behavioral plasticity. In an environmentally harsher (drier) year, both types of males had higher corticosterone levels than in a milder (wetter) year, but only nonterritorial males had lower testosterone in the relatively harsher year. We propose that disruptive selection for individual variation in hormonal responses to environmental cues may be a common mechanism underlying the evolution of alternative male reproductive tactics in this and other species.  相似文献

The annual variations in the basal plasma contents of testosterone, thyroxine and corticosterone have been measured in Peking drakes living outdoors, in Southern France. 10 The plasma testosterone titer underwent a more than 20-fold increase during the vernal reproductive period (March-April). In early June the circulating testosterone fell to near autumnal values, and the testosterone MCR was augmented. These were the first manifestations of the cessation of the vernal reproductive period. 20 The plasma thyroxine levels were minimal in autumn, moderately augmented (40%) in winter (January-March), but exhibited a 3-fold increase in early June. The resulting steep (13-fold) increase of the plasma thyroxine/testosterone ratio preceded the onset of the post-nuptial moult. 30 Modifications of testosterone secretion and clearance rate similar to those occurring in June were initiated in spring by i.m. injections of thyroxine at a dosage (1 mg/d) that induced June-July thyroxine plasma levels. On the other hand, an experimentally induced steep decrease of testosterone (castration) induced enhanced plasma thyroxine concentrations similar to the June values, while an induced (10 mg/d testosterone i.m.) hypertestosteronemia corresponding to the reproductive period depressed the plasma thyroxine levels. Strong reciprocal negative interactions between testis and thyroid might therefore afford a partial explanation of the peculiar thyroxine/testosterone imbalance that occurred in June immediately prior to the moult. 40 Cold-exposed "short-day" (December) ducks exhibited a marked increase in plasma thyroxine levels, while exposure of December ducks to "long days" (18L-6D) at 25 degrees C depressed the thyroxine titers. The inhibitory effect of "long days" on the blood level of thyroxine was further evident in castrated ducks. Exposure of "short day" ducks (December) to a combined treatment by "long days" (18L-6D) and cold (4 degrees C) produced an endocrine picture similar to the January-March pattern, i.e. highly increased testosterone plasma levels, but unaffected testosterone MCR, together with a moderate increase in plasma thyroxine concentration. 50 Corticosterone plasma concentrations increased during the reproductive season, as a result of a seasonally augmented binding-capacity of the CBG. Exogenous testosterone (10 mg/d) which induced spring-like circulating levels of male hormones, caused a similar increase in CBG-bound and total corticosterone levels. 60 In June the MCR of both corticosterone and aldosterone were elevated (as was the testosterone MCR). Similarly enhanced MCR of both corticosteroids were brought on in spring by an exogenous thyroxine treatment, leading to a June-like state of hyperthyroxinemia.  相似文献

Endocrine-immune interactions are variable across species and contexts making it difficult to discern consistent patterns. There is a paucity of data in non-model systems making these relationships even more nebulous, particularly in reptiles. In the present study, we have completed a more comprehensive test of the relationship among steroid hormones and ecologically relevant immune measures. We tested the relationship between baseline and stress-induced levels of sex and adrenal steroid hormones and standard ecoimmunological metrics in both female and male Galápagos marine iguanas (Amblyrhynchus cristatus). We found significant associations between adrenal activity and immunity, whereby females that mounted greater corticosterone responses to stress had lower basal and stress-induced immunity (i.e., bactericidal ability). Males showed the opposite relationship, suggesting sex-specific immunomodulatory actions of corticosterone. In both sexes, we observed a stress-induced increase in corticosterone, and in females a stress-induced increase in bactericidal ability. Consistent with other taxa, we also found that baseline corticosterone and testosterone in males was inversely related to baseline bactericidal ability. However, in females, we found a positive relationship between both testosterone and progesterone and bactericidal ability. Multivariate analysis did not discern any further endocrine-immune relationships, suggesting that interactions between adrenal, sex steroid hormones, and the immune system may not be direct and instead may be responding to other common stimuli, (i.e., reproductive status, energy). Taken together, these data illustrate significant endocrine-immune interactions that are highly dependent on sex and the stress state of the animal.  相似文献

Effects of short-term administration of corticosterone and cortisol on plasma levels of thyroid hormones, gonado-somatic index and testicular histology have been reported in catfish, Clarias gariepinus during different phases of its breeding cycle. Corticosterone administration had no significant effect on plasma levels of T4, T3 and T3/T4 ratio, irrespective of doses and phases of breeding cycle. However, 5 microg dose of cortisol significantly increased plasma levels of T3 and the T3/T4 ratio during quiescent and regressive phases, while it significantly decreased plasma levels of T4 during progressive phase. During breeding phase, 2 microg and 5 microg doses of cortisol significantly decreased plasma levels of T4 and T3, respectively, while 5 microg dose of cortisol alone reduced T3/T4 ratio. Irrespective of phases of annual breeding cycle and doses, short-term administration of corticosterone and cortisol had no significant effect either on GSI or testicular histology. These findings suggest that corticosterone is ineffective in stimulating plasma levels of thyroid hormones, while cortisol, depending on dose and phase/season, may differentially increase, decrease or have no effect on plasma levels of thyroid hormones in C. gariepinus.  相似文献

We examined the effect of corticosterone on plasma levels of reproductive hormones (testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and luteinizing hormone) and territorial defense behavior in male tree sparrows, Spizella arborea. Birds receiving Silastic implants filled with corticosterone (B) had significantly higher plasma levels of B than control birds, which received empty implants, and exhibited pectoral muscle wastage and a decrease in body mass. We evaluated the hormonal and agonistic responses of the two implanted groups of birds using a simulated territorial intrusion (STI) 2 to 4 days after they were implanted. Corticosterone-treated and control birds did not differ in their circulating levels of reproductive hormones or in their behavioral responses to STI (latency to respond to intrusion, number of songs, and closest approach to a decoy and tape recording). Unlike previous studies of north temperate passerines, high physiological levels of exogenous B had no effect either on circulating levels of reproductive hormones or on territorial behaviors associated with breeding. Nonetheless, untreated tree sparrows do mount a robust adrenocortical response, having a two- to fourfold increase in plasma B levels during a 1-h period of capture. Thus, adrenocortical responsiveness is maintained in these birds, but elevated levels of glucocorticoids do not suppress reproductive hormones or associated behaviors. We believe that this hormonal and behavioral refractoriness to glucocorticoids-or uncoupling of the stress response from the reproductive axis-may be advantageous for species having extreme temporal constraints on their breeding schedules.  相似文献

Although sibling competition in avian species has been extensively studied, the proximate mechanisms remain largely unknown. Recent research proposed that steroid hormones, in particular testosterone (T) and corticosterone (CORT), might play a role either in promoting competitive behavioral displays or in response to chronic nutritional stress accompanied by a sustained competitive situation. Here, we examine body condition, endogenous T levels and fecal glucocorticoid metabolites (FGM) as non-invasive measures of CORT in sibling broods of wild common tern chicks (Sterna hirundo) during three post-natal developmental stages. In this species, distinct within-brood size asymmetries are imposed by an asynchronous hatching interval, and sexes show slightly different growth patterns. First-hatched (a-)chicks were in better condition than their later-hatched sibling (b-chick). FGM levels inversely covaried with condition and were elevated at the end of pre-fledging development. T levels of a- and b-chicks changed with age, although the direction of the changes differed, with b-chicks eventually having higher levels than their older siblings. Survival to fledging was not associated with FGM but with T levels, which tended to be higher in surviving chicks. Our results are discussed with regard to how plasticity in steroid hormones could be involved in mediating sibling competition in common terns.  相似文献
