Ethics and Embryo/Foetus Research

Research with embryos and foetuses raise moral problems. In this article the origins of these moral intuitions are analyzed and discussed at four levels: moral problems regarding the treatment of the foetus and the mother animal; ethical problems experienced by the moral actor (researcher); ethical problems related to a justification based upon a balance between means and goals; and ethical problems raised by society.     

International Research Ethics

This article provides a critical overview of the most important issues pertaining to the ongoing debate on international research ethics. It critically describes three problems of continuing concern: 1) the question of whether the distinction between therapeutic and non-therapeutic research should be upheld; 2) the questions of whether the currently demanded best proven diagnostic and therapeutic method of treatment for all research subjects is feasible both in developed and in developing countries, and whether it should be upheld; 3) the questions of who owns international research ethics guidelines and regulatory frameworks and, how decisions about changes to such international guidelines can possibly be achieved, given that it seems to be the case that genuine disagreement about issues of content is possible and likely.     

Foetus and newborn skeleton preparation. Technical note

The artisanal preparation of foetus and newborn skeleton is described. The essential phases of the technique are circumstantially presented.     

EST技术及其在哺乳动物早期胚胎研究中的应用

EST(expressed sequence tags ,EST) 是一段长约150～500 bp的基因表达的外源序列片段,是由大规模随机挑取的cDNA克隆测序得到的组织或细胞基因组的表达序列标签。一个EST代表生物某一时期的某种组织或细胞的一个表达基因。本文主要综述了EST技术的原理方法,哺乳动物早期胚胎研究的理论基础以及EST技术在早期胚胎研究方面的应用,并讨论了利用EST进行研究分析的发展趋势。
