The effects of constant air temperature and relative humidity on the longevity of three species of gripopterygid stonefly adults from New Zealand were investigated in laboratory experiments, and the results were compared to field measurements of air temperature and humidity obtained during summer. Greatest longevity for Zelandobius furcillatus, Zelandoperla decorata and Acroperla trivacuata was recorded in cool humid conditions (10°C, 100% humidity) for adults fed water and a 5% sucrose solution. Absence of feeding reduced survival by 37–73% at 17°C and 100% humidity. Survival decreased significantly with increasing constant air temperature (10, 17 and 25°C) and decreasing mean relative humidity (100, 81 and 15%). Males survived significantly longer than females in all temperature treatments for Z. furcillatus, but longevity was not influenced by gender in other species or in the humidity experiments. Interpolated LT 50 values over 96 h for female stoneflies in the temperature treatments averaged of 22–23°C. Field measurements at near-ground level and 1.5 m above the streambank during summer indicated that these air temperatures were exceeded for 25% of the time in a pasture catchment compared to <0.1% of the time in a native forest catchment. These findings implicate air temperature as a factor potentially influencing the longevity of adult stoneflies, and suggest that maintenance of appropriate microclimate conditions should be a consideration in riparian management.  相似文献

The feeding habits of 17 species of Nemouroidea stoneflies (belonging to the families Nemouridae, Leuctridae and Capniidae) from the north‐western Iberian Peninsula are described and quantified by means of gut content analyses. As a whole, fungi, followed by pollen (both from angiosperm and, in a lesser degree, Pinaceae), leaf fragments (CPOM), detritus and, more punctually, lichens and animal matter are the most common items found in their guts. Nevertheless, variations among species were observed. For a species with a flight period that extends throughout the year, Protonemura globosa, variations in the diet were noticed among seasons, with pollen being more important during the spring and summer period. Together with a few previous studies, the present one reaffirms that feeding is an important aspect of the adult life in males and females of Nemouroidea.  相似文献

The food and feeding habits of riparian ground beetles were studied in four alpine floodplains (Bavaria, Germany): a 5th-order stream (the Isar) and three 3rd-order streams. The riparian fauna along the streams mainly consists of predaceous species. Riparian ground beetle densities were much higher along the Isar than along the small streams. Aquatic invertebrates composed 89% of the potential prey for carnivorous terrestrial insects along the Isar. Besides aquatic organisms washed ashore, stoneflies emerging on land are of considerable importance as potential prey for terrestrial predators. In contrast, only 34% of the potential prey organisms collected along the small streams were of aquatic origin. Food abundance was 9 times higher in the shore region of the Isar compared to the small streams. Surface drift in the Isar, a potentially important food source for riparian organisms, was about 106 organisms and exuviae per meter stream width in 24 h. The drift density in the Isar was 59 times higher than that in a small stream. Terrestrial organisms provided only 3% of the drifting particles in the Isar, but 50% in the small stream. Gut content analysis reveals, that riparian ground beetles in the Isar floodplain mainly feed on aquatic organisms washed ashore or emerging on land. While small Bembidion species prefer chironomids (larvae and adults) the larger species Nebria picicornis feeds on emerging stoneflies, terrestrial riparian organisms and aquatic organisms accumulating along the shoreline. The prey of riparian ground beetles in the floodplain of the three small streams mainly consists of terrestrial species some of which may have been washed ashore. 1. We assessed the impacts of deforestation on the energy base of headwater food webs in seven headwater streams in the Upper Chattahoochee basin, GA, U.S.A where percentage forest in catchments ranged from 82 to 96%. We measured terrestrial organic matter standing crop and determined consumer (crayfish and insectivorous fish) dependence on terrestrial versus aquatic energy sources via gut content and stable isotope analyses. 2. Standing crop of coarse particulate organic matter (CPOM) declined with deforestation at large scales (i.e. catchment deforestation and riparian deforestation at the entire stream network scale). Terrestrial plant matter, the dominant component of crayfish guts, declined in crayfish guts with reductions in CPOM standing crop and with deforestation. 3. Crayfish and insectivorous fish δ13C showed enrichment trends with deforestation, indicating isotopic divergence from CPOM, the most 13C‐depleted basal resource, with reductions in catchment and riparian forest cover. Crayfish δ13C also exhibited enrichment with decreased instream CPOM standing crop. 4. A concentration‐dependent mixing model was used to calculate the relative dependence of crayfish and fish on terrestrial versus aquatic basal resources. Results suggested that both allochthonous CPOM and autochthonous production were important basal resources. Consumer dependence on CPOM decreased with reductions in canopy cover. 5. Our data suggest the importance of forest cover to headwater food webs at multiple scales, and that relatively low levels of riparian deforestation along headwater streams can lead to reductions in stream food web dependence on terrestrial subsidies.  相似文献

We examined the relationship between body size of the riparian spider Nephila clavata and the contribution of allochthonous (aquatic insects) and autochthonous (terrestrial insects) sources to its diet using stable isotope analysis. During the study period from July to September, the body size of the females increased remarkably (about 60-fold) but that of males remained small. The biomass of both aquatic and terrestrial insects trapped on the spider webs increased with spider size, with the biomass of the former ranging between 30 and 70% of that of the terrestrial insects. The average relative contribution of aquatic insects to the diet of the spiders, calculated from δ13C values, was 40–50% in spiders in the early juvenile and juvenile stages, 35% in adult males and 4% in adult females. There was a significant negative relationship between the relative contribution of aquatic insects and body size of the female spiders. We conclude that aquatic insects might be an important seasonal dietary subsidy for small spiders and that these allochthonous subsidies may facilitate the growth of riparian spiders, which may in turn enable the spiders to feed on larger prey.  相似文献

The gut content composition of three species of the superfamily Perloidea, Marthamea selysii (Pictet, 1842), Dinocras cephalotes (Curtis, 1827), and Siphonoperla torrentium (Pictet, 1842), from northwestern Spain is analyzed and described. The quantity of food found in all adults of M. selysii and D. cephalotes was very low. Spores of fungi and pollen of angiosperms were the most abundant components in the diet of M. selysii. Pollen of angiosperms, followed by fungal spores, detritus, and animal matter were the most abundant components in the diet of both sexes of D. cephalotes. The adult diet of both sexes of S. torrentium consists mainly of pollen and agrees with data of the previous studies on this same species in other areas. Our results also show that the consumption of animal matter could be a way to get a nutritional complement and is more common than previously considered in adult stoneflies. The obtained data support the hypothesis that adult feeding is less important for large stoneflies (as M. selysii and D. cephalotes) than for other smaller Perloidea (as S. torrentium), but feeding habits in these large Plecoptera could not be as negligible as previously supposed.  相似文献

We analyzed the food source of riparian spiders in a middle reach of the Chikuma River, Japan, by using stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen. The carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios of attached algae were higher than those of terrestrial plants, reflecting a large carbon isotope fractionation in terrestrial plants and a difference in nitrogen sources. The carbon isotope ratios of terrestrial insects were similar to those of the terrestrial plants, and the ratios of aquatic insects were scattered between those of the terrestrial plants and the attached algae. The carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios of spiders were intermediate between those of the terrestrial and aquatic insects. The two-source mixing model using the carbon isotope ratio showed that the web-building spiders utilized both the terrestrial and aquatic insects, with large contribution by the aquatic insects (54% on average with a maximum of 92% among spiders taxa collected in each zone), in the riparian area in a middle reach of the Chikuma River. The large contribution of the aquatic insects was often observed for the spiders collected near river channel (<5m) and for the horizontal web-building spiders collected across the riparian area. The relative contribution of the aquatic insects might be related with food availability (distance from river channel) and spiders food preference reflected in their web types (horizontal vs. vertical). Our results showed that organic materials produced in the river channel, in the riparian area, and in the terrestrial area surrounding the riparian area were mixed at the carnivorous trophic level of riparian spiders.  相似文献

Prey intake by Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and brown trout Salmo trutta was measured across different riparian vegetation types: grassland, open canopy deciduous and closed canopy deciduous, in upland streams in County Mayo, Western Ireland. Fishes were collected by electrofishing while invertebrates were sampled from the benthos using a Surber sampler and drifting invertebrates collected in drift traps. Aquatic invertebrates dominated prey numbers in the diets of 0+ year Atlantic salmon and brown trout and 1+ year Atlantic salmon, whereas terrestrial invertebrates were of greater importance for diets of 1+ and 2+ year brown trout. Terrestrial prey biomass was generally greater than aquatic prey for 1+ and 2+ year brown trout across seasons and riparian types. Prey intake was greatest in spring and summer and least in autumn apart from 2+ year brown trout that sustained feeding into autumn. Total prey numbers captured tended to be greater for all age classes in streams with deciduous riparian canopy. Atlantic salmon consumed more aquatic prey and brown trout more terrestrial prey with an ontogenetic increase in prey species richness and diversity. Atlantic salmon and brown trout diets were most similar in summer. Terrestrial invertebrates provided an important energy subsidy particularly for brown trout. In grassland streams, each fish age class was strongly associated with aquatic, mainly benthic invertebrates. In streams with deciduous riparian canopy cover, diet composition partitioned between conspecifics with older brown trout associated with surface drifting terrestrial invertebrates and older Atlantic salmon associated with aquatic invertebrates with a high drift propensity in the water column and 0+ year fish feeding on benthic aquatic invertebrates. Deciduous riparian canopy cover may therefore facilitate vertical partitioning of feeding position within the water column between sympatric Atlantic salmon and brown trout. Implications for riparian management are discussed.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of food types on biological aspects and life table parameters of the predacious mite, Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor), immature stages were fed on pollen of maize, Zea mays L. and eggs of Tetranychus urticae Koch, while adult females were offered the same foods and the alternate shift of each food. All individuals of predator females reached adulthood when reared on maize pollen and prey eggs, but their life cycle was significantly longer on pollen than on prey. The shortest preoviposition period of N. californicus occurred after continuous feeding on T. urticae eggs, whereas the longest happened when fed on prey eggs switched to maize pollen. Continuous consuming of maize pollen showed the longest ovipositoin period for the predator, while rearing on maize pollen shifted to prey eggs exhibited the shortest duration. The longest longevity and highest sex ratio of females to total in N. californicus were recorded when continuously utilised pollen, whereas the shortest longevity and lowest sex ratio were noted when continuously consumed prey. On the contrary, the egg production and life table values of the predator were the highest by continuous feeding on prey eggs, while they were the lowest by continuous rearing on maize pollen. Therefore, feeding juveniles on prey eggs and adult females on maize pollen is better for long-term preservation of N. californicus females than continuous feeding on maize pollen due to a shorter developmental duration, a higher egg production and more favourable life table values.  相似文献

Rivers can provide important sources of energy for riparian biota. Stable isotope analysis (δ13C, δ15N) together with linear mixing models, were used to quantify the importance of aquatic insects as a food source for a riparian arthropod assemblage inhabiting the shore of the braided Tagliamento River (NE Italy). Proportional aquatic prey contributions to riparian arthropod diets differed considerable among taxa. Carabid beetles of the genus Bembidion and Nebria picicornis fed entirely on aquatic insects. Aquatic insects made up 80% of the diet of the dominant staphylinid beetle Paederidus rubrothoracicus. The diets of the dominant lycosid spiders Arctosa cinerea and Pardosa wagleri consisted of 56 and 48% aquatic insects, respectively. In contrast, the ant Manica rubida fed mainly on terrestrial sources. The proportion of aquatic insects in the diet of lycosid spiders changed seasonally, being related to the seasonal abundance of lycosid spiders along the stream edge. The degree of spatial and seasonal aggregation of riparian arthropods at the river edge coincided with their proportional use of aquatic subsidies. The results suggest that predation by riparian arthropods is a quantitatively important process in the transfer of aquatic secondary production to the riparian food web.  相似文献

Prey for predators can fluctuate in abundance and in quality over time requiring predator strategies to cope with food shortage. Coccinellinae are often associated with sap-sucking pests that exhibit high population unpredictability such as aphids and psyllids. Eriopis connexa (Germar) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is a predator with potential for biological control, especially a well-studied population which is resistant to pyrethroids used to control insect defoliators. Both larvae and adult E. connexa were provided ad libitum prey and non-prey foods (pollen and honey water solution) at increasing intervals from 1 to 10 days. Neonate larvae of E. connexa required eating prey daily to develop into adults. However, non-prey food such as honey water solution did prolong larval and adult survival but neither fulfilled larval development nor adult reproduction. Honey water solution promoted 100% adult survival up to 25 days in the adult stage without prey with oviposition returning after daily feeding on prey. Females subjected to increased feeding intervals over four days reduced oviposition and lived longer, but 10-day feeding intervals correlated with risk to adult survival. These results indicate the importance of non-food sources in E. connexa maintenance and the ability of larvae and adult females to compensate for prey scarcity.  相似文献

Reproduction is a nutritionally costly activity for many insects, as their eggs are rich in lipids and proteins. That cost seems especially acute for non-social bees, which for their size, lay enormous eggs. All adult female bees visit flowers, most of them to collect pollen and nectar, or sometimes oils, to feed their progeny. For adult bees, the need for pollen feeding has only been detailed for the honey bee, Apis mellifera. To experimentally test for the reproductive value of adult pollen feeding by a non-social bee, Osmia californica (Hymenoptera: Apiformes: Megachilidae), young female bees plus males were released into large glasshouse cages provided with either a male-fertile sunflower cultivar or a pollen-less one. Females regularly visited and drank nectar from flowers of both cultivars. Abundant orange pollen was seen regularly in guts of females confined with the male-fertile sunflowers, indicative of active pollen ingestion. All females’ terminal oocytes (next egg to be laid) were small at emergence. Oocytes of females confined with the pollen-less sunflowers remained small, despite frequent nectaring and exposure to other floral stimuli. In contrast, the basal oocytes of female O. californica with access to pollen had swelled to full size within ten days following emergence, enabling them to lay eggs in provided nest tubes. Adult females of this solitary bee required dietary pollen to reproduce; nitrogen stores acquired as larvae were inadequate. Early and regular pollen feeding in part paces the onset and maximum tempo of solitary bees’ lifetime reproductive output.  相似文献

Euseius stipulatus (Athias-Henriot) is a predatory mite widespread in the Mediterranean region considered to be important for the biological control of spider mites in citrus orchards. Development, survival and reproduction of this phytoseiid mite feeding on seven commercially obtained pollen were studied under constant laboratory conditions (20 ± 1°C, RH 65 ± 5%, photoperiod 16L: 8D h). Mites were kept individually at rearing units with ample quantity of almond (Prunus amygdalus Batch), apple (Malus domestica Borkh), apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.), cherry (Prunus avium L.), pear (Pyrus communis L.), plum (Prunus domestica L.) and walnut (Juglans regia L.) pollen as food source. Developmental time from egg to adult varied between the several pollen tested from 8.38 ± 0.08 to 9.58 ± 0.11 days for females and from 8.23 ± 0.12 and 9.07 ± 0.12 days for males. Female longevity varied from 11.53 ± 1.22 to 51.38 ± 2.45 days, while fecundity ranged from 22.84 ± 2.30 to 43.61 ± 3.78 eggs/female. The predator was unable to reproduce when feeding on walnut pollen. Data were submitted to life table analysis and values of the intrinsic rate of increase were derived, ranging from 0.079 to 0.146 (day−1). The cumulative Weibull function that was used to describe the age specific survival of females produced excellent fits to the survival data. Results show that almond, plum, cherry and apricot pollen possess higher nutritional value for E. stipulatus than pear and apple pollen and thus may contribute in sustaining and increasing the predator population in field conditions. Walnut pollen can be utilized by the predator only to survive during short periods of time when principal or alternative food sources are scarce.  相似文献

Macroinvertebrates of terrestrial and aerial origin were examined on the river banks, in the drifting community and in the stomach contents of salmonids at seven stream sites within the river Nethy catchment in Scotland over a 12 month period. Differences between sites (which varied from moorland to forest), had some influence on the taxonomic composition and diversity of riparian macroinvertebrates but not on the proportion of terrestrial and aerial organisms in the drift or in salmonid guts. The abundances of terrestrial and aerial organisms collected on the river banks and in the drift were not related to the combination of riparian vegetation and altitude. The abundance on the river banks of terrestrial and aerial macroinvertebrates, particularly those possessing wings, varied seasonally and was positively correlated with temperature. Terrestrial and aerial prey contributed up to 86% of the salmonid diet. Organisms most abundant on the river banks were not always the predominant organisms in the drift or those selected by salmonids. This study concludes that it is necessary to examine the riparian and benthic macroinvertebrates (the original prey sources) and the drift (as the actual source of salmonid forays) directly to elucidate salmonid trophic pathways.  相似文献

Termites play important roles in lignocellulose and humus turnover in diverse terrestrial ecosystems, and are significant sources of global atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide. All known termite species engage in obligate, complex nutritional symbioses with their gut microbes to carry out such processes. Several hundred microbial species, representing a broad phylogenetic and physiological diversity, are found within the well‐bounded, microliter‐in‐scale gut ecosystem of a given termite. However, most of these species have never been obtained in laboratory culture, and little can be said about their functional roles in the gut community or symbiosis. Herein, an unappreciated facet of the gut chemistry and microbiology of wood‐feeding termites is revealed: the redox metabolism of iron. Gut fluids from field‐collected termites contained millimolar amounts of ferrous iron and other heavy metals. When iron(III) hydroxides were amended to a filter paper diet of Zootermopsis nevadensis, a dampwood termite collected in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California, the specimens accumulated high levels of iron(II) in their guts. Additionally, iron was reduced at rapid initial rates in anoxic gut homogenates prepared from field‐collected Z. nevadensis specimens. A Clostridium sp. and a Desulfovibrio sp. were isolated from dilution‐to‐extinction enrichments of Z. nevadensis gut contents and were found to reduce iron(III), as did the termite gut spirochete Treponema primitia. The iron in the guts of wood‐feeding termites may influence the pathways of carbon‐ and electron‐flow, as well as microbial community composition in these tiny ecosystems of global importance.  相似文献

The δ15N values of adult holometabolous insects exceed those of larvae, but otherwise little information on terrestrial invertebrates has been obtained in food‐web analyses using stable isotope ratios (δ15N, δ13C). Changes in δ13C during metamorphosis and differences between males and females have not been examined. We collected the larvae and cocoons of Euthrix potatoria (L.) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) in the field and used them to assess the species’ isotopic fractionation. Each emerged moth was divided into five body parts. We conducted stable N and C isotope analyses for each body part, as well as for cocoons and exuviae, and also compared stable isotope ratios between sexes. We confirmed δ15N enrichment through metamorphosis and estimated that δ15N enrichment is accomplished by the relative concentration of 15N due to the excretion of copious meconium, which contains abundant 14N. We also observed changes in δ13C values through metamorphosis. Both isotope values tended to change more in males than in females. The proportion of the whole‐adult weight represented by meconium was higher in males than in females, suggesting that high meconium secretion in males contributes to the sexual difference in δ15N. These phenomena may be common in Holometabola, which require a pupal stage. For more accurate food‐web assessments, it is important to consider stable isotope changes during different life cycles, as well as sexual differences.  相似文献

Improved laboratory methods are described in detail for mass rearing of various thrips species, such as Frankliniella occidentalis, Frankliniella intonsa, Thrips palmi, Thrips tabaci (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and a thrips parasitoid, Ceranisus menes (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), using various foods. In one method, plant pollen and honey solution are used as food sources. In a second method, germinated broad bean seeds are used. Eggs, produced in large numbers in water, are collected by a suction funnel onto a filter paper and incubated in a Petri dish. Large numbers of larvae that hatch are collected by using food traps (plant pollen). Larvae can be reared on pollen or on germinated broad bean seeds until adult emergence without additional water and food. This method has been found useful for producing even-aged thrips at different densities (up to 500 larvae in a cage of 80 mm diameter) with relatively low mortality rates. Evaluation of this rearing method for F. intonsa, shows that during 2 weeks at 20 °C per 100 females more than 4000 females could be produced in the next generation. About 5 min per day is required to achieve this productivity of mass production. The method is also suitable for producing large numbers of the solitary endoparasitoid of thrips larvae, C. menes.  相似文献

Adult aquatic insects emerging from streams can subsidize riparian food webs, but little is known of the spatial extent of these subsidies. Stable isotope (15N) enrichment of aquatic insects, principally a species of stonefly (Plecoptera: Leuctridae), emerging from an upland stream was used to trace the subsidy from the stream ecosystem to riparian spiders (Lycosidae). The downstream profile of spider δ15N correlated closely with that of adult stoneflies, indicating that they were deriving nutrition from aquatic sources. The contribution of adult aquatic insects to spider diets was determined using a two-source mixing model. Adult aquatic insects made up over 40% of spider diets adjacent to the stream, but <1% at 20 m from the stream. Enrichment of riparian spiders declined exponentially with distance from the stream channel. Aquatic-terrestrial subsidies were spatially restricted, but locally important, to riparian lycosid spiders at the study site.  相似文献

1. Despite a recent upsurge in interest, there remains remarkably little information about the dispersal and survival of the adults of most stream‐dwelling insects, although this is a basic requirement for understanding their long‐term population dynamics. 2. Using Malaise traps for a whole annual flight period, we captured adult stoneflies (Leuctra nigra) along transects perpendicular to three upland Welsh streams. We assessed spatial and temporal patterns in sex ratio to infer local dispersal and, using maturity as an age marker, estimated the mortality of adult females. 3. Nearly all adult stoneflies (99%) were taken in the period 26 April–23 July, and the onset of the male and female flight periods was the same. Most males (90%) had been caught by late June. Females were classified as immature (without ripe eggs) or mature, and 90% of immature females had been caught by mid‐late June (depending on catchment). As immature females declined in the catch, mature females increased, 10% having been caught by late‐May to early June and 90% by early to mid‐July. The median catches of immature and mature females were separated by 32 days in all three catchments. 4. There was a female bias in the sex ratio overall, which increased as time passed and was attributable partially to the greater longevity of females. Late in the flight period, however, female bias was also greater near the stream channel implying a return of mature females (but not males) from the riparian vegetation, presumably to oviposit. 5. The number of mature females was less than the number of immatures in two of the three channels. Over all three catchments, the overall mortality of females over the 32 days taken to mature was estimated at 29%, equivalent to an exponential daily rate of 1.1% day?1. The apparently negative mortality rate in one catchment (i.e. more matures than immatures being caught) could be due to an influx of adult females from elsewhere along the channel to oviposit. 6. Natural markers of age and population structure, such as sex ratio and female maturity, thus enabled us to detect a return of females to the stream to oviposit, after prior limited dispersal into the riparian zone, and to infer longitudinal movements in search of suitable sites. We were also able to estimate mortality in the field. Such natural markers seem to have been underexploited in the study of adult aquatic insects.  相似文献

Six phytophagous mites, maize pollen, and two artificial diets were fed to Amblyseius ovalis to evaluate their food suitability for the predator. The parafilm diet-chip of Hager and Tassan was adopted for artificial diet studies. The floating leaf method was the best among all tested methods, producing high survival, developmental, and reproductive rates of the predator. Offspring of A. ovalis fecding on artificial diets did not complete their life cycles. A. ovalis feeding on E. orientalis, O. mangiferus, ad O. taiwanicus developed into adult form faster than those feeding on other food resources. Predators feeding on the natural food, except those feeding on T. kanzawai, had much higher immatural survival rates, lower escape rates, and shorter developmental durations than those feeding on the artificial diets. All A. ovalis laid an average of two eggs per female per day after 2 days of preoviposition, except for those feeding on T. kanzawai which produced none. A. ovalis feeding on artificial diets showed a shorter oviposition period, lower daily and total reproductive rates, and shorter longevity. The complicated webbing life type of T. kanzawai inhibited the activities of A. ovalis, indicating that the predators may require nutrients other than T. kanzawai eggs to molt into adults and to reproduce. The functions varying the phytoseiid-tetranychid relationship during the predator's approach to the microhabitat of the prey were postulated from the predator's structures and the prey's life type. Most predator eggs were laid by 2–18 day-old females feeding on natural food resources. A. ovalis retained its high activity on the low webbing habitats of O. mangiferus and E. orientalis, and on maize pollen. The intrinsic rate of increase, mean generation time, and net reproductive rate of A. ovalis on each of nine tested food resources were evaluated from its life tables. The predator showed the highest intrinsic rates of increase when feeding on the prey of E. orientalis, O. mangiferus, and on maize pollen, and the lowest rates when feeding on the artificial diet even when the immatures had fed on the O. mangiferus and maize pollen. Consequently, the optimal food resources for A. ovalis appear to be O. mangiferus or O. oriintalis with supplements of maize pollen. When fed on these food resources, the predators demonstrated the highest rates of survival, longevity, fecundity, and intrinsic increase.  相似文献
