"选择-表现"假说认为,成虫应该选择有利于子代发育的高品质寄主,但在寄主选择中,除了寄主品质外,其他因素也可能影响寄主选择决策。寄主选择研究通常以成虫为对象,而对那些初龄幼虫选择寄主的寄生性昆虫很少关注。以1龄幼虫积极搜寻寄主的寄生性花绒寄甲为模式生物,采用双选试验设计,观察了花绒寄甲初孵幼虫在不同体重青杨天牛幼虫之间、在已被寄生与健康的黄粉虫蛹之间的寄生选择性;然后采用回归设计,观察了花绒寄甲寄生若干不同体重的青杨天牛幼虫后的发育表现。研究结果表明,花绒寄甲1龄幼虫对体型较大的青杨天牛幼虫的选择偏好显著大于对体型较小的寄主幼虫的选择,选择大体型幼虫的比值比是选择小体型幼虫的4.55倍;对已被寄生的寄主黄粉虫蛹的选择偏好显著大于对健康寄主蛹的选择,选择已被寄生寄主的比值比是选择健康寄主的12.57倍。寄生青杨天牛幼虫的花绒寄甲幼虫发育历期平均为11.49 d、蛹历期为26.67 d、幼虫发育至成虫的羽化率50%,这些发育表现与寄生时青杨天牛幼虫的体重没有显著关系。但刚羽化寄甲成虫体重与寄生时寄主的体重存在显著的正直线关系:寄生时的寄主体重每增大0.01 g,羽化出的寄甲成虫体重增大近0.08%;方差分析寄甲成虫体重在不同寄主体重水平之间的差异表明,从体型较大寄主中羽化的寄甲成虫体重显著大于从体型较小寄主中羽化的成虫。研究结果说明,花绒寄甲初孵幼虫在寄主选择决策时,在寄主体型大小与被寄生状态之间可能采取折衷对策,而且对体型大小不同的寄主选择与子代发育适合度表现存在一致性,从而支持"选择-表现"假说。  相似文献

The developmental interaction between the egg/larval parasitoid,Ascogaster reticulatus Watanabe (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and its host,Adoxophyes sp. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) was examined. Prior to the egress of a final-instar parasitoid larva from the 4th-instar host larva, host weight decreased by 22% from the maximum weight. The final body weight of a host larva was 27% of the maximum weight of a healthy 5th-instar host. Food consumption was significantly reduced in both 3rd-and 4th-instar parasitized larvae compared with healthy ones. In the 4th instar, a parasitized larva consumed 28% less artificial diet and produced less frass than a healthy larva. The growth rate of the endoparasitoid larvae greatly increased after their host's molt to the 4th instar. Parasitoid larval volume increased 40 fold in the 4th-instar host.   相似文献

Larva of the fruit beetle Dicronocephalus wallichi bourgoini Pouillaude 1914 is described and illustrated. The following unique morphological characters within Cetoniinae are discussed: shape of claw, spindle-shaped last antennomera, general body shape. The presence of metathoracic egg-bursters in the first instar larva has been found. Its significance for distinguishing the first instar larvae of Cetoniinae is discussed. The nesting behaviours of D. wallichi bourgoini and D. adamsi(Pascoe 1863) are described. The course of the life cycle of both species under laboratory condition is presented and discussed.  相似文献

The first instar larva is described for two species of Miltogramminae flesh flies representing the genera Miltogramma Meigen and Phrosinella Robineau‐Desvoidy. Using a combination of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, the habitus is documented along with all important exoskeletal and cephaloskeletal structures. The described first instar larvae show substantial modifications of their morphology in comparison with the saprophagous ground plan defined for calyptrate flies. Miltogramma (Miltogrammidium) efflatouni Rohdendorf possesses the general set of derived character states shared with other species of Miltogramma and shares larval synapomorphies with species representing the subgenera Anacanthothecum Rohdendorf, Cylindrothecum Rohdendorf and Miltogrammidium Rohdendorf. Unique character states of the first instar larva of this species are the spine‐like shape of antennal complex, laterally compressed apical part of mouthhooks and an extreme elongation of the sensilla of the maxillary palpus. Phrosinella (Asiometopa) ujgura (Rohdendorf) possesses a pair of retractable, robust processes on the ventral margin of the first thoracic segment and a very strong, elongated labrum. Both character states are present in other known first instar larvae of genus Phrosinella. A reduction of cuticular ridges on dorsal and lateral surfaces of abdominal segments supports a monophylum consisting of the subgenera Asiometopa Rohdendorf and Caspiomyia Rohdendorf within genus Phrosinella.  相似文献

The present study relates to a methanol extract of the seed coat of Ginkgo biloba, and tested particularly on the third instar larvae of Spodoptera exigua. The extract was found to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of the larvae besides bringing a change in the nutrient reserves in the body of the insect. Topical application of five different doses of the methanol extract resulted in a mortal effect to third instar larvae of S. exigua that is very much dependent on the dose as well as duration of exposure. Lower doses revealed lower mortality after 24 h of application. At doses of 1.00, 2.00, 4.00, 8.00 and 16.00 ng/larva, mortalities were 9.25, 26.07, 50.32, 56.28 and 92.44%, respectively. The dose for 50% mortality (LD50) of methanol extracts by applied by a topical method with 1 µL of acetone solution was 1.92 ng/larva. Nutrient reserves like protein, glycogen and lipid are known to regulate pupation and adult emergence. These reserves have been found to be lower in treated larvae, indicating the insecticidal role of methanol extracts from G. biloba against third instar larvae of S. exigua.  相似文献

Summary

An assay for the prothoracicotropic hormone (PTTH) has been established using in situ activation of the prothoracic glands (PG) of Bombyx mori in its larva-to-larva development. The timing of PTTH release was estimated by examining developmental response of 4th instar larvae to brain removal and neck ligation, and changes in the haemolymph ecdysteroid titer and ecdysone-releasing activity of PG in vitro during the development. Injection of Bombyx brain extracts into 4th instar larvae neck-ligated shortly before full activation of PG elicited larval moulting rather than precocious pupation in headless larvae. This developmental shift was regarded as due to the action of PTTH, and the PTTH unit has been defined from a linear log dose-response relationship. Materials chromatographically fractionated from Bombyx brain extracts were examined for the presence of stage- and species-specific PTTH molecules by using this Bombyx larva assay and Bombyx and Samia pupa assays previously developed. The same fractions were active when assayed by Bombyx larva and pupa assays.  相似文献

When the larva of Brachyzapus nikkoensis, a koinobiont ectoparasitoid of Agelena limbata forming a funnel web, is a penultimate instar, “veils” of very fine and dense threads covering the spider and parasitoid larva were observed in the tunnel of funnel web. As the veils are not formed until the parasitoid became penultimate instar and the parasitoid larvae are on active hosts at this stage, the veils are considered to be formed by the spider under the manipulation of the parasitoid larva. Removal of the veil indicated that penultimate larvae and pupae were more likely to fail to emerge in manipulated webs compared to the controls. The modified web seems resistant against predators and scavengers such as ants. This is the first record of web modification demonstrating its resistance to predators.  相似文献

We examined physiological and endocrinological properties of the nm-g mutant of the silkworm, whose development was arrested at 1st or 2nd larval instar. The larva of the nm-g homozygote continued to feed and grow past the stage when a normal larva moulted to the next instar. The nm-g larva attained more than twice the body weight of a normal moulting larva, but remained in the same instar with no sign of the moulting until it finally died. The ecdysteroid concentration in the haemolymph of the nm-g larva was reduced and an increase in the titre, which occurred before moulting in the normal larva, was not observed. Injection of 20-hydroxyecdysone induced the nm-g larva to moult and ecdyse to the next larval instar. From these results, we conclude that nm-g is an ecdysteroid-deficient mutant.  相似文献

This paper describes the morphology of the immature stages (egg, larva and pupa) and larval behavior of the butterfly Hermeuptychia atalanta, a common and widespread species of satyrinae in South America. Eggs are white and spherical, laid singly on leaves of grasses. The first instar has a light-green body and dark-brown head; all remaining instars present body and head capsule light green. Larvae have no spines, and general morphology is similar to other species of the subtribe Euptychiina.  相似文献

We have identified theDrosophila homologue of the non-motor accessory subunit of kinesin-II motor complex. It is homologous to the SpKAP115 of the sea urchin, KAP3A and KAP3B of the mouse, and SMAP protein in humans.In situ hybridization using a DmKAP specific cRNA probe has revealed a dynamic pattern of expression in the developing nervous system. The staining first appears in a subset of cells in the embryonic central nervous system at stage 13 and continues till the first instar larva stage. At the third instar larva stage the staining gets restricted to a few cells in the optic lobe and in the ventral ganglion region. It has also stained a subset of sensory neurons from late stage 13 and till the first instar larva stage. The DmKAP expression pattern in the nervous system corresponds well with that of Klp64D and Klp68D as reported earlier. In addition, we have found that the DmKAP gene is constitutively expressed in the germline cells and in follicle cells during oogenesis. These cells are also stained using an antibody to KLP68D protein, but mRNAin situ hybridization using KLP64D specific probe has not stained these cells. Together these results proved a basis for further analysis of tissue specific function of DmKAP in future.  相似文献

Unidentified uropodid mite deutonymphs have been found in phoretic association with a late‐instar larva of Wiseana cervinata (Lepidoptera: Hepialidae). This is thought to be the first record of phoresy between such mites and a lepidopteran larva. Scanning electron micrographs of the mites and their attachments are presented.  相似文献

A Glossina morsitans female can synthesize alanine, aspartic acid, cystine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, and serine, and also lipids, from d-[U-14C] glucose during pregnancy and utilize these products for nourishment of the growing intra-uterine larva. The third instar larva shortly after formation of the puparium can also synthesize these nutrients from glucose and is thus similar to the adult female fly in this respect. It is possible that some glucose taken up by the larva via the maternal uterine glands is converted to the above nutrients. Although the specific nutritional requirements of the growing larva are largely provided by its female parent, the larva has active synthetic systems for the regulation and maintenance of its inherent metabolic steady state. This is reflected in the synthesis of large amounts of glutamic acid in the larva whereas in the adult the emphasis appears to be on the synthesis of proline.Most of the injected glucose and its synthetic products are utilized to provide energy for biosynthetic activity. Uric acid is the main nitrogenous end product of catabolism of non-essential amino acids. A small proportion of such amino acids and glucose are also excreted.Embryonic development which lasts for about 4 days following ovulation is sustained by nutrients within the egg. Following eclosion, the first instar larva begins to feed upon uterine gland secretions. This instar lasts for about 1 day. Ecdysis to the second instar, which lasts for 1 to 2 days, is associated with a three- to fourfold increase in the rate of nutrient uptake. Most rapid feeding begins when the third instar develops. These results are discussed in terms of larval growth in relation to feeding by the adult female parent.  相似文献

Micromalthus debilis 33 ), has one of the most bizarre life cycles of any metazoan. Reproduction is typically by thelytokous, viviparous, larviform females, but there is also a rare arrhenotokous phase. The active first‐instar (triungulin) larva develops into a legless, feeding (cerambycoid) larva. This form either pupates, leading to a diploid adult female, or develops into any of three subsequent types of reproductive paedogenetic forms: (1) a thelytokous female that produces triungulins via viviparity; (2) an arrhenotokous female that produces a single egg that develops into the short‐legged (curculionoid) larva, eventually devouring its mother and becoming a haploid adult male; or (3) an amphitokous female that can follow either of the two above reproductive pathways. We speculate that Micromalthus is dependent on maternally transmitted bacteria for the ability to digest rotting wood, and that these bacteria are senescent in males, causing males to be obligately cannibalistic. Obligate male cannibalism, in turn, would have dramatically increased the cost of males, and have created a strong selective advantage for cyclic thelytoky and the other features of the Micromalthus life cycle that minimize the role of the male.  相似文献

An histological study of flea larvae was carried out in order to compare free-living, larvae with the unique endoparasitic larva of Uropsylla tasmanica Rothschild (Siphonaptera : Pygiopsyllidae), a species confined to dasyurid hosts in Tasmania and Victoria, Australia. The free-living species examined were Ctenocephalides felis Bouché (Siphonaptera : Pulicidae) and Odontopsyllus quirosi Gil Collado (Siphonaptera : Leptopsyllidae). Mandibular glands are present in 1st and 3rd instar U. tasmanica, but are absent from 2nd and 3rd instar O. quirosi and all larval instars of C. felis. Such glands in flea larvae have not beeb described previously and they appear to be unique to the endoparasitic U. tasmanica larva. Their presence during the 3rd instar as well as in the 1st instar suggests that although it is possible they play a role in the initial penetration of host skin by the newly hatched larva, they are active in secretion also during the time when the larvae are feeding on host tissue within the dermis.  相似文献

Female flies of the subfamily Ameniinae were found by dissection to be macrolarviparous. The two ovaries each comprise two ovarioles, and a single egg passes at a time intoa large, muscular uterus, where it hatches and develops through the soft and rather featureless first larval instar. The larva moults in utero to a strongly spined, active second instar, with long, curved mandibular hooks and this stage is presumed to parasitize snails. Details are given of the larval morphology of Amenia and Paramenia spp., and the indications that these give about taxonomic affinities. The posterior spiracles are sunk in a deep pit, as is found amongst Sarcophagidae. It is concluded that on the basis of adult and larval characters the Ameniinae is a somewhat specialized group of flies, most closely related to Calliphoridae and with some affinity to Sarcophagidae.  相似文献
