Six new species of Melastomataceae from Ecuador

Six new species of Melastomataceae from Ecuador are described: Miconia renneri from the montane forests in north-western Ecuador; Clidemia longipedunculata from the lowland rainforest in eastern Ecuador, and Miconia oellgaardii, Brachyotum johannes-julii, B. russatum , and B. incrassatum from the upper montane forests and plramos in southern Ecuador.

A new species of Miconia (Melastomataceae, Miconieae) from northeastern Brazil

Miconia caiuia occurs only in the highly endangered submontane moist forests in the states of Alagoas, Pernambuco, and northern Bahia, Brazil. It belongs to Miconia section Miconia subsection Secundiflorae. This new species can be distinguished from other species in this subsection by the lepidote-stellate trichomes on young branches, petioles, inflorescences and hypanthia, leaves with suprabasal nerves and wrinkled/auriculate bases, abaxial leaf surfaces with only sparse trichomes, a 5-locular ovary, and large mature fruits (10–13?×?12–15 mm) with up to 15 seeds, which are 2.5–3.5 mm long.

详细描述了广西产的异药花属一新种——大明山异药花。该种与产于福建、广西等地的异药花近似,但不同在于本种叶基出脉较多,7-9条;多歧聚伞花序长2.5-3cm,宽6-7cm;长雄蕊花药线形,基部伸长,略膨大成囊状,分离,药隔膨大,伸长成短距,短雄蕊花药线形,药隔膨大,伸长成短距。     

Foliar sclereids in Memecylon and Lijndenia (Melastomataceae) from Borneo, Java, Malaya and Sumatra

Foliar sclereids are investigated in 41 Memecylon species and in Lijndenia laurina Zoll. & Mor. (= Memecylon oligoneurum Bl.). The predominance of filiform sclereids in the Memecylon species is remarkable. Lijndenia laurina has ramiform sclereids.     

Bredia reniformis (Melastomataceae), a new species from Guangxi,China

Bredia reniformis, a new species of Melastomataceae from Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. Bredia reniformis is similar to B. plagiopetala (C. Chen) R. C. Zhou & Ying Liu and B. gracilis (Hand.-Mazz.) Diels by having axillary inflorescences and flowers with eight isomorphic stamens, but differs from the latter two in having glandular-puberulous indumentum, reniform calyx lobes and shortly falcate yellowish anthers with obconical dorsal appendages.
