Six bee viruses, which occur in Apis mellifera, were monitored in the Czech Republic between 2006 and 2009. Samples of larvae and pupae collected from hives where American foulbrood was detected were screened for bee viruses and in the 125 samples of larvae, there was no confirmed case of a larva infected with both American foulbrood and a bee virus. Of 145 samples infected with the protozoan Nosema apis, there were 23 cases of coinfections with the BQCV virus, 18 with the DWV virus and 11 with the ABPV virus. All coinfections with three or four viruses were also statistically significant apart from the one between ABPV with CBPV and DWV. The PCA ordination diagram indicates that BQCV occurs mainly with Nosema apis and DWV mainly with ABPV.  相似文献

The sensitivity and specificity of conventional Ouchterlony gel-diffusion, immuno-osmoelectrophoresis (IO), immune serum electron microscopy (ISEM), “decoration,” radioimmunoassay (RIA), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests for detecting black queen cell virus (BQCV), chronic bee paralysis virus (CBPV), Kashmir bee virus (KBV), and sacbrood virus (SBV) particles in extracts of diseased honeybees were compared. A “slow” ISEM method detected virus particles in extracts of individuals or groups of individuals diluted to 10?3 and 10?4, respectively, whereas the IO method and a “fast” ISEM method using protein A were one-tenth as sensitive, and Ouchterlony gel-diffusion tests were only one-thousandth as sensitive. Using the antibody “decoration” technique, mixtures of serologically unrelated virus particles could be resolved. RIA and ELISA were found to be one thousand times more sensitive than ISEM in detecting the particles of BQCV, CBPV, KBV, and SBV; however, nonspecific reactions occurred when using RIA with very dilute particle suspensions, and this made dilution endpoints difficult to assess, but this did not occur when using the ELISA method. There was little difference in the effectiveness of rabbit or hen antisera in the tests, except when protein A was used as it does not combine with hen antibodies.  相似文献

Influenza viruses: transmission between species   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The only direct evidence for transmission of influenza viruses between species comes from studies on swine influenza viruses. Antigenically and genetically identical Hsw1N1 influenza viruses were isolated from pigs and man on the same farm in Wisconsin, U.S.A. The isolation of H3N2 influenza viruses from a wide range of lower animals and birds suggests that influenza viruses of man can spread to the lower orders. Under some conditions the H3N2 viruses can persist for a number of years in some species. The isolation, from aquatic birds, of a large number of influenza A viruses that possess surface proteins antigenically similar to the viruses isolated from man, pigs and horses provides indirect evidence for inter-species transmission. There is now a considerable body of evidence which suggests that influenza viruses of lower animals and birds may play a role in the origin of some of the pandemic strains of influenza A viruses. There is no direct evidence that the influenza viruses in aquatic birds are transmitted to man, but they may serve as a genetic pool from which some genes may be introduced into humans by recombination. Preliminary evidence suggests that the molecular basis of host range and virulence may be related to the RNA segments coding for one of the polymerase proteins (P3) and for the nucleoprotein (NP).  相似文献

With the exception of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which emerged in humans after cross-species transmissions of simian immunodeficiency viruses from nonhuman primates, immunodeficiency viruses of the family Lentiviridae represent species-specific viruses that rarely cross species barriers to infect new hosts. Among the Felidae, numerous immunodeficiency-like lentiviruses have been documented, but only a few cross-species transmissions have been recorded, and these have not been perpetuated in the recipient species. Lentivirus seroprevalence was determined for 79 bobcats (Lynx rufus) and 31 pumas (Puma concolor) from well-defined populations in Southern California. Partial genomic sequences were subsequently obtained from 18 and 12 seropositive bobcats and pumas, respectively. Genotypes were analyzed for phylogenic relatedness and genotypic composition among the study set and archived feline lentivirus sequences. This investigation of feline immunodeficiency virus infection in bobcats and pumas of Southern California provides evidence that cross-species infection has occurred frequently among these animals. The data suggest that transmission has occurred in multiple locations and are most consistent with the spread of the virus from bobcats to pumas. Although the ultimate causes remain unknown, these transmission events may occur as a result of puma predation on bobcats, a situation similar to that which fostered transmission of HIV to humans, and likely represent the emergence of a lentivirus with relaxed barriers to cross-species transmission. This unusual observation provides a valuable opportunity to evaluate the ecological, behavioral, and molecular conditions that favor repeated transmissions and persistence of lentivirus between species.  相似文献

Mechanisms of arthropod transmission of plant and animal viruses.   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
A majority of the plant-infecting viruses and many of the animal-infecting viruses are dependent upon arthropod vectors for transmission between hosts and/or as alternative hosts. The viruses have evolved specific associations with their vectors, and we are beginning to understand the underlying mechanisms that regulate the virus transmission process. A majority of plant viruses are carried on the cuticle lining of a vector's mouthparts or foregut. This initially appeared to be simple mechanical contamination, but it is now known to be a biologically complex interaction between specific virus proteins and as yet unidentified vector cuticle-associated compounds. Numerous other plant viruses and the majority of animal viruses are carried within the body of the vector. These viruses have evolved specific mechanisms to enable them to be transported through multiple tissues and to evade vector defenses. In response, vector species have evolved so that not all individuals within a species are susceptible to virus infection or can serve as a competent vector. Not only are the virus components of the transmission process being identified, but also the genetic and physiological components of the vectors which determine their ability to be used successfully by the virus are being elucidated. The mechanisms of arthropod-virus associations are many and complex, but common themes are beginning to emerge which may allow the development of novel strategies to ultimately control epidemics caused by arthropod-borne viruses.  相似文献

When exotic animal species invade new environments they also bring an often unknown microbial diversity, including pathogens. We describe a novel and widely distributed virus in one of the most globally widespread, abundant and damaging invasive ants (Argentine ants, Linepithema humile). The Linepithema humile virus 1 is a dicistrovirus, a viral family including species known to cause widespread arthropod disease. It was detected in samples from Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. Argentine ants in New Zealand were also infected with a strain of Deformed wing virus common to local hymenopteran species, which is a major pathogen widely associated with honeybee mortality. Evidence for active replication of viral RNA was apparent for both viruses. Our results suggest co-introduction and exchange of pathogens within local hymenopteran communities. These viral species may contribute to the collapse of Argentine ant populations and offer new options for the control of a globally widespread invader.  相似文献

Between 1995 and 1998, we designed a series of studies in which we attempted to determine the main routes of transmission involved in the natural infection of pseudorabies virus (PRV) indigenous to free-ranging feral swine (Sus scrofa). Naturally infected feral sows transmitted the infection to uninfected feral boars, with which they had been commingled for a 6-wk period. Pseudorabies virus was isolated from boar preputial swabs, but not from nasal swabs. Three of the same PRV-infected feral sows did not transmit the infection to domestic boars during a 16 wk commingling period, despite the fact that they became pregnant. Feral boars, naturally infected with PRV transmitted the virus to domestic gilts while penned together during 6 wk. Pseudorabies virus was isolated from vaginal swabs, but not from nasal swabs of gilts, after 2 and 3 wk of commingling. When the same infected boars were commingled with either feral or domestic boars for 13 wk, PRV transmission did not occur. None of the exposed boars developed neutralizing antibodies or yielded virus from their preputial or nasal swabs. Our results indicate that PRV indigenous to feral swine is preferentially transmitted to feral or domestic swine of the opposite sex by the venereal route. This mode of transmission differs from that seen in the natural transmission of PRV prevalent in domestic swine, where contaminated secretions, excretions and aerosols are responsible for the spread of the virus. Based on these results, we feel that as long as feral swine do not come into direct contact with domestic swine, PRV-infected feral swine probably pose only a limited risk to the success of the National Pseudorabies Eradication Program. The fact that PRV is usually transmitted from feral to domestic swine at the time of mating would indicate that the isolation of domestic herds by the use of a "double fence," should be adequate protection against reinfection with PRV.  相似文献

Honeybee colonies exposed under a 765-kV, 60-Hz transmission line at 7 kV/m show the following sequence of effects: 1) increased motor activity with transient increase in hive temperature; 2) abnormal propolization; 3) impaired hive weight gain; 4) queen loss and abnormal production of queen cells; 5) decreased sealed brood; and 6) poor winter survival. When colonies were exposed at 5 different E fields (7, 5.5, 4.1, 1.8, and 0.65–0.85 kV/m) at incremental distances from the line, different thresholds for biologic effects were obtained. Hive net weights showed significant dose-related lags at the following exposures: 7 kV/m, one week; 5.5 kV/m, 2 weeks; and 4.1 kV/m, 11 weeks. The two lowest exposure groups had normal weight after 25 weeks. Abnormal propolization of hive entrances did not occur below 4.1 kV/m. Queen loss occurred in 6 of 7 colonies at 7 kV/m and 1 of 7 at 5.5 kV/m, but not below. Foraging rates were significantly lower only at 7 and 5.5 kV/m. Hive weight impairment and abnormal propolization occur at lower E-field intensity than other effects and limit the “biological effects corridor” of the transmission line to approximately 23 m beyond a ground line projection of each outer phase wire. Intrahive E fields of 15–100 kV/m were measured with a displacement current sensor. Step-potential-induced currents up to 0.5 μA were measured in an electrically equivalent bee model placed on the honeycomb in a hive exposed at 7 kV/m. At 1.8 kV/m body currents were a few nanoamperes, or two orders of magnitude lower, and these colonies showed no effects. E-field versus electric shock mechanisms are discussed.  相似文献

Shedding and congenital transmission of endogenous avian leukosis viruses were studied in viremic White Leghorn hens exogenously infected with viruses with endogenous long terminal repeats (LTRs) and in four semicongenic lines of hens that naturally express infectious endogenous viruses (EVs). Relatively high titers of infectious virus EV7 (encoded at locus ev7), Rous-associated virus-0 (RAV-0), and recombinant 882/-16 RAV-0 were detected in blood cells and sera from exogenously infected hens, but marked differences were noted in the incidence of congenitally infected progeny. In enzyme immunoassays that detect viral group-specific antigen, little or no p27 was detected in albumens from dams infected with RAV-0. However, hatchmates infected with either EV7 or recombinant 882/-16 RAV-0, which was constructed with an RAV-0 LTR, shed high titers of p27. Similarly, semicongenic hens that expressed RAV-0 (EV2) (encoded at locus ev2) shed little or no p27 into albumens, but hens that harbored ev10, ev11, and ev12 shed high titers of p27. A slower electrophoretic mobility of p27, considered to be characteristic of EVs that are restricted in congenital transmission, was not associated with low levels of shedding or congenital transmission; p27 from other EVs and p27 from an avian leukosis virus field strain, all of which are shed at high levels, had mobilities identical to that of p27 from RAV-0. Although shedding and congenital transmission appear to be controlled by the viral genome, there was no correlation between low efficiency of shedding or congenital transmission and endogenous LTR or p27 sequences.  相似文献

White spot syndrome virus (WSSV), Taura syndrome virus (TSV) and Infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) are three shrimp viruses responsible for major pandemics affecting the shrimp farming industry. Shrimps samples were collected from 12 farms in Zhejiang province, China, in 2008 and analyzed by PCR to determine the prevalence of these viruses. From the 12 sampling locations, 8 farms were positive for WSSV, 8 for IHHNV and 6 for both WSSV and IHHNV. An average percentage of 57.4% of shrimp individuals were infected with WSSV, while 49.2% were infected with IHHNV. A high prevalence of co-infection with WSSV and IHHNV among samples was detected from the following samples: Bingjiang (93.3%), liuao (66.7%), Jianshan (46.7%) and Xianxiang (46.7%). No samples exhibited evidence of infection with TSV in collected samples. This study provides comprehensive information of the prevalence of three shrimp viruses in Zhejiang and may be helpful for disease prevention control in this region.  相似文献

The prevalence and distribution of six bee viruses was investigated in 527 Apis cerana samples which were collected from five provinces in South Korea. The most prevalent virus, black queen cell virus (BQCV), was present in 75.11% of 446 adult bee samples, followed by sacbrood virus (SBV) in 30.71%. Deformed wing virus (DWV), Kashmir bee virus (KBV), and chronic bee paralysis virus (CBPV) were present at lower levels of 8.07%, 1.56%, and 0.44%, respectively. The most prevalent virus in 81 larvae samples was SBV, with an incidence of 60.49%, followed by BQCV in 48.14%, DWV in 6.17%, and KBV in 1.23% of samples. CBPV infection was not detected in larvae samples, and acute bee paralysis virus (ABPV) was not present in both larvae and adult bee. Simultaneous infections with up to four viruses were also identified. Of these, infections with SBV and BQCV were most frequent in 25.61% of samples. The distribution of these viruses varied considerably throughout the geographic regions investigated. The three provinces of Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, and Chungbuk had the highest frequency of bee viruses.  相似文献
