A new model of the origin of man is proposed on the basis of recent studies on cytogenetics of chromosomal Q-heterochromatin regions (Q-HRs) in man and other higher primates. This model is based on the following facts: a) chromosomal Q-HRs were found in the genome of only three higher primates (man, the chimpanzee and the gorilla); b) chromosomal Q-HRs in the human genome, unlike those in apes, exhibit considerable quantitative variability; c) the number of human chromosomal Q-HRs in the genome has a selective value in the adaptation of human populations to various environmental conditions. According to this model, the three major morphofunctional distinctions of man—great physiological flexibility, characteristic morphological structure, and conceptual thinking—arose as a result of the capacity of our remote ancestors to broadly change their genome mass owing to features of chromosomal Q-HRs that are only intrinsic to man. We feel that genome-mass variability through chromosomal Q-HRs allowed man to adapt himself to various environments over such a short period of time.  相似文献

解剖结构上的现代人是指具有近圆球形头骨、短而平的面颅、纤细的骨骼等特征的区别于其他古老人类的化石和现今的人群。支持多地区演化模型和支持近期非洲起源模型的学者,在“解剖结构上的现代人”的应用范围方面是不同的,前者以连续演化为基本思想,认为这一名词只包括智人中较进步的类群;而后者以分支系统学思想为基础,认为包括所有智人。分子古生物学研究显示,尼人、丹人和智人在遗传学水平上属于不同的人种。新近的以标本-种群为单元的系统分析,因为不是以属、种等分类学阶元进行的,因此与分类学的阶元划分无关。该系统分析的结果显示智人属于单系类群,哈尔滨人、大荔人等组成其姊妹群。尼人与智人的分异早于1百万年,与基因组水平的谱系分析相符合。多次多向的穿梭扩散是统计学上符合系统关系的模型。  相似文献

The first unequivocal postcranial remains of baphetids (= loxommatids) associated with skull roof and lower jaw material are reported from a specimen of Baphetes from the English Upper Carboniferous, Duckmantian. Characters of the mandible, including the incorporation in the symphysis of paired parasymphysial plates, permit the identification of a previously indeterminate jaw from the Langsettian (Westphalian A) of Nova Scotia, as baphetid. The postcranial remains include vertebrae, pectoral and pelvic limb and limb girdle elements that present a combination of unique characters extending the diagnosis of the family Baphetidae, together with plesiomophic and derived characters which suggest that baphetids are primitive stem group tetrapods.  相似文献

The postcranial stem tetrapod remains from Scat Craig include a neural arch, humerus, tibia, femur, and incomplete pectoral girdles and ilia. These elements are all large or very large compared with the corresponding bones of other stem tetrapods. They correlate well in size with the proportions of Elginerpeton , the known stem tetrapod from Scat Craig, and probably belong to this genus. The neural arch has weak zygapophyses, and the ilia and shoulder girdles resemble those of Ichthyostega . The femur is strongly twisted, with the intercondylar fossa facing anteroventrally, so the hind limb probably functioned as a paddle. The tibia is broad, as in Acanthostega and Ichthyostega . The humerus is approximately intermediate in shape between those of osteolepiforms and later stem tetrapods, but seems to have a ventral radial facet like Ichthyostega . Overall, the postcranial bones combine apparent synapomorphies with Ichthyostega and characters which are uniquely primitive among stemgroup tetrapods. This character combination is incongruent. A recently discovered postorbital bone from the site is, strictly speaking, indeterminable but may belong to Elginerpeton ; it broadly resembles the postorbitals of Ichthyostega and Acanthostega , and demonstrates that the typical stem tetrapod facial morphology had evolved before the end of the Frasnian.  相似文献

This paper examines competing theories for cases in which both the data and the hypotheses can be represented as distance matrices. A test due to Dow & Cheverud has been used for such comparisons in anthropology, but when data are spatially, temporally, or phylogenetically autocorrelated, this test may be far too liberal. We examine a classification procedure based on ratios of probabilities obtained from Mantel tests of the competing hypotheses and find that design matrices describing only lag-one connections and those eliminating common connections of competing hypotheses are the most informative. We apply this method to simulated gene-frequency data in a 7×7 chessboard representing a stepping-stone model and discriminate between alternative theories with a 7% misclassification rate. We also apply these techniques to the current controversy concerning the origin of anatomically modern humans by testing design matrices representing regional continuity and single African origins. The outcome for lag-one matrices and those showing only unique lag-one differences indicate that the single African origin of anatomically modern humans fits the distance matrix based on 165 characters of 83 fossil crania better than the competing theory. However, we also tested a design matrix describing single origin out of southwest Asia. This design matrix was clearly most similar to the data in all tested cases. These results make the regional-continuity theory a less likely explanation for the observed cranial differences than the two single-origin theories. Of these, single southwest Asian origins seems the more likely interpretation of the data.  相似文献

Burning of corpses is a well-known funeral procedure that has been performed for a long time in many cultures. Nowadays more and more corpses are burned in crematories and buried in urns, often for practical and financial reasons. In some scientific, criminal or civil cases even after cremation there is the need of genetic investigations for identification or paternity testing. Furthermore, burned remains are the only remains left in North Europe from 1200 BC to 500 AD. This makes genetic investigation of those materials interesting for anthropological reasons. We present on one hand a systematic investigation of 10 corpses before and after the cremation and on the other hand the analysis of seven historical remains representing the bronze age. We chose the ground bone powder and the less destroyed bone parts respectively and employed a slightly modified commercially available DNA extraction method. The presence of human nuclear and mitochondrial DNA was tested by a simple but highly sensitive Duplex-PCR. DNA quantification was done using real time PCR, and genetic typing was tried out using the AmpFISTR Identifiler Multiplex Kit, followed by an automatic analysis on an AbiPrism310.  相似文献

Until recently, the settlement of the Americas seemed largely divorced from the out‐of‐Africa dispersal of anatomically modern humans, which began at least 50,000 years ago. Native Americans were thought to represent a small subset of the Eurasian population that migrated to the Western Hemisphere less than 15,000 years ago. Archeological discoveries since 2000 reveal, however, that Homo sapiens occupied the high‐latitude region between Northeast Asia and northwest North America (that is, Beringia) before 30,000 years ago and the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). The settlement of Beringia now appears to have been part of modern human dispersal in northern Eurasia. A 2007 model, the Beringian Standstill Hypothesis, which is based on analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in living people, derives Native Americans from a population that occupied Beringia during the LGM. The model suggests a parallel between ancestral Native Americans and modern human populations that retreated to refugia in other parts of the world during the arid LGM. It is supported by evidence of comparatively mild climates and rich biota in south‐central Beringia at this time (30,000‐15,000 years ago). These and other developments suggest that the settlement of the Americas may be integrated with the global dispersal of modern humans.  相似文献

This study presents an analysis of 20 tetranucleotide microsatellites in 16 worldwide human populations representing the major geographic groups. Global Fst values for the 20 microsatellites are indicators of their relative validity as tools in human population genetics. Four different measures of genetic distance (Fst, DSW, δμ 2 and Rst) have been tested and compared with each other. Neighbor-joining trees have been constructed for all the measures of genetic distance and populations. Measures of genetic distance such as Fst, which does not consider different mutational relationships among alleles and has a known relationship to differentiation by drift, and to some extent DSW, reflect what is known of human evolution, while mutation-based distances such as Rst and δμ 2 give very different results from those recognized from other sources (genetic or archaeological). When the genetic relationship between human populations is analyzed through allelic frequencies for microsatellites, the choice of distance may be a key issue in the picture obtained of genetic relationships between human populations. The results of the present study suggest that genetic drift played the main role in generating the present distributions of microsatellite alleles and their variation among human populations; the role of mutation must have been less important owing to the time constraint imposed by the small timescale in which most human differentiation has occurred. Moreover, the results support the theory of a recent origin of modern humans, although the existence of strong bottlenecks in the origin of the various human groups seems unlikely. Cladistic analyses for the study of hominid evolution become very common during the last two decades, but little attention has been given to the appropriateness of the approach to studies being undertaken. This paper discusses how cladistic analyses have been used in studies of late Middle and Upper Pleicostocene hominids without due consideration of the problems inherent within the approach. It is concluded that in studies of the origin of anatomicaly modern humans a strict cladistic approach is inappropriate because it takes too narrow a view (presence/absence) of morphology, and in doing so does not allow for morphological variation. A phenetic approach which is interested in overall morphological similarity based on many characters and attempts to sample the total morphological variability evident within a sample would seem a more appropriate approach in such studies.  相似文献

Late Epigravettian postcranial human remains from the Arene Candide cave (Finale Ligure, Savona, Italy) were compared with the Neolithic sample found in the upper levels of the same site. Data on length, diaphyseal circumference and diameter of clavicle, humerus, radius, femur and tibia were collected from male specimens having all these bones. The Epigravettian sample is characterized by significantly greater tibial length, robustness and platycnemia, significantly lower circumferences in the upper limb bones and the clavicle, and a high degree of asymmetry. Variations observed in lower limb bones are those expected on the basis of the different functional requirements of a hunting and gathering economy compared to a more sedentary, food producing economy. Differences in the upper limb bones and the clavicle are less explicable. However, considering that in spite of a more slender structure, the Epigravettian bones show evidence of vigorous use, variation in upper limb could result from qualitatively different involvements.  相似文献

The relationships between the size of the spinal cord and the size of the neural canal, and between gross spinal cord anatomy and locomotor style, were documented in a wide range of living diapsids. Observed relationships were used to make predictions about spinal cord anatomy and about limb use and position in related fossil taxa. In particular, the data suggest that the brachial plexus, and therefore the cervical/dorsal vertebral transition, of the theropod dinosaurs studied was located considerably posterior to its presently accepted location, and that the forelimbs of the giant carnosaurs Tyrannosaurus rex and Carnotaurus sastrei were of biologically insignificant use. Neural canal measurements support previous interpretations of locomotor style in extinct crocodilians, and can be used to predict limb placement in plesiosaurs.  相似文献

The large-bodied hominoid from Moroto, Uganda has until recently been known only from proconsulid like craniodental remains and some vertebrae with modern ape like features. The discovery of two partial femora and the glenoid portion of a scapula demonstrates that the functional anatomy of Morotopithecus differed markedly from other early and middle Miocene hominoids. Previous studies have consistently associated the vertebral remains with a short, stiff back and with orthograde postures. Although the proximal femur more closely resembles the femora of monkeys than of apes and suggests a moderate degree of hip abduction, the distal femur resembles those of extant large bodied apes and suggests a varied loading regime and an arboreal repertoire that may have included substantial vertical climbing. The femoral shaft displays uniformly thick cortical bone, beyond the range of thickness seen in extant primates, and signifies higher axial loading than is typical of most extant primates. The glenoid fossa is broad and uniformly curved as in extant suspensory primates. Overall, Morotopithecus is reconstructed as an arboreal species that probably relied on forelimb-dominated, deliberate and vertical climbing, suspension and quadrupedalism. Morotopithecus thus marks the first appearance of certain aspects of the modern hominoid body plan by at least 20 Ma. If the suspensory and orthograde adaptations linking Morotopithecus to extant apes are synapomorphies, Morotopithecus may be the only well-documented African Miocene hominoid with a close relationship to living apes and humans.  相似文献

Present human populations show a complex network of genetic relationships, which reflects mainly their unique origin and their migration and isolation history since the recent creation of modern man. The scrutiny of their genetic characteristics, according to GM polymorphism, shows that the continuity of the genetic variation between populations from neighbouring continents, assured by intermediate world part populations, is against any attempt to divide present human populations into major groups. GM polymorphism analysis also shows three remarkable levels of genetic differentiation, which would have appeared, respectively, within populations of sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and East Asia. The first small groups of people that split from the common ancestral population gave the sub-Saharan Africans. On the other hand, Asians diverged mainly from Europeans and Near East populations during a later period. The confrontation between the phylogeny and the frequency distribution of GM haplotypes shows that the ancestral population of actual South-Arabia people could be a candidate for a common ancestral population. The first major expansions of modern humans were proposed in a hypothetical scenario, which will open a new track in the research of our geographic origin.  相似文献

Anatomically modern humans (Homo sapiens) dispersed out of Africa roughly 120,000 years ago and again after 75,000 years ago. The early dispersal was geographically restricted to the Arabian Peninsula, Levant, and possibly parts of southern Asia. The later dispersal was ultimately global in scope, including areas not previously occupied by Homo. One explanation for the contrast between the two out‐of‐Africa dispersals is that the modern humans who expanded into Eurasia 120,000 years ago lacked the functionally and structurally complex technology of recent hunter‐gatherers. This technology, which includes, for example, mechanical projectiles, snares and traps, and sewn clothing, provides not only expanded dietary breadth and increased rates of foraging efficiency and success in places where plant and animal productivity is low, but protection from cold weather in places where winter temperatures are low. The absence of complex technology before 75,000 years ago also may explain why modern humans in the Levant did not develop sedentary settlements and agriculture 120,000 years ago (i.e., during the Last Interglacial).  相似文献

Uranium-series dating is based on measurement of the radioactivity of short-lived daughter isotopes of uranium formed in samples which initially contained only the parent uranium. Materials suitable for U-series dating are found in many prehistoric archaeological sites, and include stalagmitic layers (flowstones), and spring-deposited travertines. Some marls and calcretes are also datable using isochron methods, whereas dates on molluscan shells, bones and teeth are less reliable. Ages obtained using alpha counting to determine isotope ratios have errors greater than 5%, and can range from 1 to 350 ka. Mass spectrometric methods slightly increase the range (0.1-500 ka) but greatly decrease the error to less than 1%, making this the optimal method for high-precision dating of the origin of modern man.  相似文献

We extracted DNA from the human remains excavated from the Yixi site ( approximately 2,000 years before the present) in the Shandong peninsula of China and, through PCR amplification, determined nucleotide sequences of their mitochondrial D-loop regions. Nucleotide diversity of the ancient Yixi people was similar to those of modern populations. Modern humans in Asia and the circum-Pacific region are divided into six radiation groups, on the basis of the phylogenetic network constructed by means of 414 mtDNA types from 1, 298 individuals. We compared the ancient Yixi people with the modern Asian and the circum-Pacific populations, using two indices: frequency distribution of the radiation groups and genetic distances among populations. Both revealed that the closest genetic relatedness is between the ancient Yixi people and the modern Taiwan Han Chinese. The Yixi people show closer genetic affinity with Mongolians, mainland Japanese, and Koreans than with Ainu and Ryukyu Japanese and less genetic resemblance with Jomon people and Yayoi people, their predecessors and contemporaries, respectively, in ancient Japan.  相似文献
