以华南斜坡相的罗甸纳庆剖面为代表,我国石炭纪宾夕法尼亚亚纪早–中期地层建立起了基于多个属种的牙形类分带,并可与全球其他地区同期地层进行广泛对比。Neognathodus属是这一时期一类常见的浅水相牙形类分子,在北美、东欧等地的浅水相地层中被广泛用作地层划分对比标志。该属分子在我国北方地区浅水相地层中是重要的带化石分子,而在华南斜坡相剖面中占比非常低。结合现有的生物地层框架,本文厘清了华南贵州罗甸附近3条斜坡相剖面中Neognathodus属分子的延限,尝试利用牙形类P1分子齿台的对称特征将其演化过程归纳为五个阶段,并提出阶段4中对称分子(如:N. bothrops, N. colombiensis, N. nataliae等)的再次出现可作为全球莫斯科阶底界的辅助对比标志。  相似文献

Both diverse assemblages of small skeletal fossils and a representative chemostratigraphical record make the Siberian Platform widely regarded as one of the key regions for the reconstruction of global biotic and abiotic events in the late Ediacaran and early Cambrian. However, the wide distribution of intertidal–subtidal facies in the Ediacaran–Cambrian transitional strata of the central and southwestern Siberian Platform (Turukhansk–Irkutsk–Olekma facies region) produces a dramatic depletion of the palaeontological record and considerably limits their age‐calibration and long‐distance correlation. We report new lithological, palaeontological and carbonate carbon‐isotope data for the Ediacaran–Cambrian sections of the Turukhansk Uplift (northwestern Siberian Platform, western facies region). These data provide a robust framework for the chemostratigraphical correlation of the western facies region with sections of the transitional and eastern regions of the Siberian Platform and further confirms a depositional hiatus at the base of the Tommotian Stage in the stratotype section (Aldan River, SE Siberia). The carbon‐isotope curve from the Turukhansk Uplift sections correlates positively with the most chemostratigraphically representative Ediacaran–Cambrian sections (Siberia, Morocco, South China). It records major carbon‐isotope oscillations globally recognized in the lower Cambrian, enabling localization of the Fortunian and Cambrian Stage 2 boundaries in the Platonovskaya Formation. Although there is extreme paucity and poor preservation of the small skeletal fossils in the western facies region, we report individual Barskovia, Blastulospongia and chancelloriid sclerites from the Platonovskaya Formation. A combination of palaeontological and chemostratigraphical data suggests the base of P. antiqua Assemblage Zone is located in the middle Platonovskaya Formation. The earliest spiral gastropods probably occurred at ~541 Ma, as demonstrated by the discovery of a specimen of Barskovia near the base of the large negative excursion in the lower Platonovskaya Formation, correlated with the BACE negative carbon‐isotope peak in the sections of the Yangtze Platform.  相似文献

Giordano, N., Rigo, M., Ciarapica G. & Bertinelli A. 2010: New biostratigraphical constraints for the Norian/Rhaetian boundary: data from Lagonegro Basin, Southern Apennines, Italy. Lethaia. 10.1111/j.1502‐3931.2010.00218.x. Four stratigraphic sections belonging to Lagonegro succession (Southern Apennines) at Mt S. Enoc, Pignola‐Abriola, Sasso di Castalda and Mt Volturino have been studied in detail under to provide a new micro‐palaeontological data set based on conodonts and radiolarians for the characterization of the Norian/Rhaetian interval. The studied sections represent the different settings of the Lagonegro Basin (from proximal to distal facies) and permit a detailed, integrated, biostratigraphy of the Calcari con Selce (cherty limestones) and Scisti Silicei formations (bedded cherts with radiolarians) to be drawn up. The upper portion of the Calcari con Selce Formation, exhibits intermediate characteristics between the Calcari con Selce and Scisti Silicei Formation, in particular the progressive decrease in carbonate content against an increase in shales and cherts. Within the four sections studied, the Norian/Rhaetian interval has been documented both with conodonts and radiolarians. Because of the continuity and the absence of condensed facies, it has been possible to recognize the morphocline between species Misikella hernsteini and Misikella posthernsteini, here represented by all the transitional forms characterized by common features between the two species, gathered in three evolutionary steps. Moreover, the morphocline between M. hernsteini and M. posthernsteini has been involved in the definition of the Norian/Rhaetian Boundary, recognizing thus the FAD of M. posthernsteini, one of the possible biomarkers proposed for the boundary. The rich, well‐preserved, radiolarian associations of Pignola‐Abriola, Sasso di Castalda and Mt Volturino permit the correlation of Tethyan and American conodont successions, highlighting the importance of the mostly coincident occurrences of M. posthernsteini and Epigondolella mosheri morphotype A, which correspond to the base of Proparvicingula moniliformis A. Z. and the disappearance of bivalve Monotis. Palynological studies have been undertaken on Lower Carboniferous (Mississippian) rocks encountered in boreholes from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea (Rügen) in Northern Germany and from an outcrop at the northern border of the Rhenish Slate Mountains in western central Germany. The studied sections belong to different facies realms within the neritic shelf facies. They begin with very near shore coastal clastic facies in the North Sea and onshore Northern Germany, ranging into carbonate platform facies at Rügen, and then into platform slope facies at the northern margin of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. The focus of this study is the analysis of the relationship between sedimentary facies and spore assemblages; therefore, spores were considered only as sedimentary particles. Thus, it was necessary to create a new spore classification scheme based only on relevant sedimentary features. The new scheme distinguishes three classes of miospore based on shape, with each class subdivided into three subclasses based on features of ornament. The diversity of the spore assemblages and the total palynofacies have also been studied. Correlating palynological results from sections representing different sedimentary facies has led to a better understanding of the influence of sedimentary facies on spore assemblages. Correlations have been made at two stratigraphical levels. Regional correlation is undertaken on the Upper Viséan from the coastal clastic facies (North Sea, Northern Germany), the carbonate platform facies (Rügen) and the marginal platform slope facies (Velbert). Local correlation within the carbonate platform facies has been attempted using samples of Mid-Viséan TS zone from four boreholes on Rügen. Certain important differences have been observed. The local correlation at Rügen shows a decrease in spore frequency and spore assemblage diversity related to increasing resedimentation within subsided blocks of the platform. The composition of spore assemblages, strongly dominated by round-shaped spores, is nearly the same in all sections. The regional correlation shows clear proximal–distal trends for the total number of spores and also the diversity and composition of spore assemblages. A strong decrease in triangular and transitional spores from proximal to distal facies was observed. In conclusion, spore assemblages seem to be strongly influenced by sedimentary facies as well as by different sedimentary processes within the facies. Facies dependence of spore assemblages is shown to be an important factor for stratigraphical use of spores and for establishing vegetational and climatic trends.  相似文献

Summary This study presents a microfacies analysis and palaco-environmental interpretations of Early Oligocene carbon ates from the Lower Inn Valley Tertiary (“Unterinntal-Terti?r”) of Austria. The well preserved biogenic components allow detailed investigations of component relationships and controlling ecological parameters. The carbonates are dominated by coralline algae, corals, small and large benthic foraminifers, bryozoans and lithoclasts. Bivalves, gastropods, echinoderms, brachiopods and serpulids are subordinate. The limestones are present as A) autochthonous carbonates transgressing directly above the Triassic basement and B) allochthonous debris flows within deeper-water marls. These carbonates are found within the Paisslberg Formation. The Werlberg Member within this formation, pertains to the autochthonous carbonates and larger debris flows. Five facies types are separated following fabric analysis and statistical treatment (correlation, cluster analysis, principal components analysis) of semi-quantitative data consisting of component frequencies of thin sections. Facies distribution patterns are principally controlled by variations in substrate characteristics, turbulence and light along a depth gradient. Reconstruction of facies pattern distribution reveal both lateral and proximal-distal facies trends: coral-coralline algal facies, coralline algal facies as well as foraminiferal facies were situated in shallower environments, laterally adjacent to each other. These grade distally into coralline algal-bryozoan facies, bryozoan facies and finally into mollusc rich marls. Debris flows consisting of reworked material from all of the known facies (bioclastic packstone facies) is restricted to the debris flow and possible represents transport induced differentiation of components and grain size within distal debris flows.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to accurately measure the surface of the semi lunar articular surface of the pelvis (facies lunata acetabuli) and the variability of the acetabular geometry, as well as to determine the correlation between measured parameters. 30 macerated anatomical specimens of pelvic bones were measured. The radius and depth were measured in the classical way, while cartilaginous surface area was measured using small fragments of measuring paper to avoid errors in measurement due to the curvature of the surface. Computerized calculations provided accurate surface values. In our research, facies lunata acetabuli measured 2294+/-329 mm2. Diameter of the opening of the acetabulum measured 25.8+/-1.9 mm. Acetabular depth was 30+/-3.2 mm. Correlations between the surface area of the facies lunata acetabuli and the radius of the acetabular opening curvature (r=0.71), surface area of the facies lunata acetabuli and the depth of the acetabulum (r=0.80) and the radius of the acetabular opening curvature and the depth of the acetabulum (r=0.80) were confirmed. For precise assessment of the facies lunata acetabuli surface area, the simplest and the cheapest method is the method of measurement using small fragments of measuring paper and software analysis. There is a significant correlation between the depth, opening of the acetabulum and surface area of the facies lunata.  相似文献

Summary Anin situ Oxfordian patch reef from the Süntel hills (florigemma-Bank, Korallenoolith, NW-Germany) is described. It is composed of an autochthonous reef core overlain by a ‘parautochthonous’ biostrome. The exposed reefal area amounts to about 20 m in lateral and up to 4 m in vertical direction. Nearly all major marine reefal fossil associations from the Tethyal realm are present. In the reef core two facies can be distinguished: (1)Thamnasteria dendroidea thicket facies and (2) thrombolite facies. The first facies is composed of a thin branched autochthonous coral thicket mainly constructed ofTh. dendroidea colonies with only a minor portion ofStylosmilia. Frequently, theTh. dendroidea branches laterally coalesce bridge-like forming a delicate initial framework which was subsequently reinforced by thick microbial coatings, that make up approximately 80% of the rock volume. This facies is an excellent example for microbialite binding in reefal architecture. Additionally, several generations of micromorphic and partly cryptic encrusting organisms settled on theTh. dendroidea branches and microbialite crusts. They successively overgrow each other and fill the space between the coral branches in the thicket forming a characteristic community replacement sequence. Initial colonization of theThamnasteria dendroidea took place on an oncoidic/bioclastic hardground. During this early phase of reefal development, microbialites also played an important role in stabilizing and binding the reef body. The thrombolite facies (2) occupying nearly the same volume of the reef body as facies type (1) consists of a thrombolitic microbialitic limestone which fills the interstice between the coral colonies. It shows a considerably lower faunal diversity than theTh. dendroidea facies. Numerous cavities are interspersed in the thrombolithe and are almost completely filled with dolomitized allomicrite. In contrast, microbialite and allomicrite adjacent to the reef core rarely reveal any dolomitized areas. Above the reef core, mostly toppledSolenopora jurassica thalli occur together with a few massiveIsastrea colonies forming a parautochthnous biostrome. They are inhabited by a low diverse assemblage of encrusting organisms. Microbialites are only rarely present in this biostromal unit. The patch reef is developed within a lagoonal limemud facies both separated by a sharp interface. In contrast, continuous facies transition exists between theSolenopora biostrome and adjacent deposits which are characterized by micritic to pelmicritic limestone sometimes with lenses of oncoids. Debris derived from the patch reef is only sporadically intercalated in the reef surrounding lagoonal sediments. Gastropods, bivalves, and dasycladalean algae dominate the lagoonal biota. Up-section following theSolenopora biostrome nerinean gastropods become the most abundant species amounting to a ‘Nerinea-bed’. This horizon moderately elevates above the patch reef indicating, that is arose above the surrounding sea floor forming a relief. The patch reef established on a secondary hardground probably released by a minor transgression and a nondepositional regime. It grew up on a well-illuminated sea floor only a few meters below sea level. Only a low background sedimentation rate and modest water circulation are assumed during reefal growth. These features characterize an open marine lagoon. A subsequent shallowing upwards trend caused emergence of the early lithifiedflorigemma-Bank sediments. In the following erosional phase the reef core,Solenopora biostrome and ‘Nerinea-bed’ were sharply cut. Paleokarst phenomena (karst solution of the rocks, selective leaching of the aragonitic corals) truncate the surface of theflorigemma-Bank. Released by a transgressive sea level, the paleokarst surface is densely inhabited by marine boring and encrusting organisms (oysters, serpulids). Karst cavities are filled with an oncoid-bearing bioclastic limestone with a large portion of siliciclastics. Theflorigemma-Bank is overlain by the reddish bioclastic sandstone of the ‘Zwischenfl?zregion’.  相似文献

Abstract

Ichnological analysis at the Pakhna Formation (Miocene, Cyprus) reveals, for the first time, the presence of graphoglyptid structures. The Pakhna Formation is dominated by pelagic/hemipelagic sediments, together with contourite, reworked turbidite and turbidite facies. Thus, a complex interaction between pelagic, bottom-current and gravitational sedimentation is envisaged. The discernment of facies is sometimes difficult, based principally on stratigraphic and microfacies features. The record of Helminthorhaphe as a component of the graphoglytid group supports the presence of turbidites, facilitating their differentiation from the other facies. Nereites ichnofacies, punctuating a dominant/background Zoophycos ichnofacies, would reflect changes in paleoenvironmental conditions. This record offers significant perspectives to advance in the study of bottom-current and gravitational processes through outcrop examples.  相似文献

埃迪卡拉纪—寒武纪之交见证了地球—生命系统不同圈层的重大变革, 是复杂多细胞生物演化的重要转折期。华南是开展相关研究的主要区域之一, 但前人工作主要集中在化石材料丰富的浅水台地相区, 深水区生物组成面貌尚未得到充分认识。本研究对斜坡相区贵州交榜剖面的留茶坡组进行了详细研究, 通过酸蚀和薄片观察发现了丰富的化石材料, 包括: 海绵骨针、软舌螺、可能的原牙形类(? Protohertzina sp.)和织金钉类(? Zhijinites sp.)、球形疑源类、Megathrix longus, 及不同类型的多细胞藻类, 亲缘关系未定的Poratusiramus sp.、球形化石和形态多样的丝状、片状化石等。该化石组合属于寒武纪纽芬兰世幸运期, 其中的骨骼化石以海绵骨针为主。化石组合中既有与浅水区共有分子, 也有深水区特有类群, 丰富了斜坡相区的化石记录, 具有潜在的地层对比和演化意义。  相似文献

Résumé L'étude phytosociologique des savanes lagunaires de la Basse Côte d'Ivoire nous a permis de distinguer deux groupes de savanes; les savanes sèches, les plus importantes et les savanes humides ou hélophytiques beaucoup plus réduites.Les savanes sèches comportent une association à Brachiaria brachylopha, une sous-association à Loudetia ambiens et deux faciès: le faciès à Anadelphia arrecta et le faciès à Schizachyrium semiberbe.Dans les savanes humides étudiées on distingue une association à Setaria anceps et Eulophia lindleyana et une sous-association à Loudetia ternata.Dans ces vastes herbages lagunaires, il ne figure donc qu'un petit nombre d'associations qui sont par contre très polymorphes.Ce travail nous a donc permis de relever l'intérêt d'une étude botanique de ces surfaces herbeuses du point de vue d'un développement possible de l'élevage. Le problème de leur origine a été examiné ont été également étudiés, le milieu humain dans le passé et dans le présent, de même que les rapports entre l'homme et la savane. Les divers types régionaux de savane ont fait l'object d'une comparaison avec les divers types de savane en Afrique Intertropicale.
Summary The phytosociologic study of the savannas of the lagoons in the lower Ivory Coast permitted us to distinguish two groups of savannas: the dry savannas which are the most important and the much more reduced humid or helophytic savannas.In the dry savannas are to be found a Brachiara brachylopha association, a Loudetia ambiens sub-association and two facies: the Anadelphia arrecta facies and the Schizachyrium semiberbe facies.In the humid savannas studied a Setaria anceps and a Eulophia lindleyana association and a Loudetia ternata sub-association are to be distinguished.In these large lagoon savannas there are therefore only a small number of associations, which, however, are very polymorphous.This study permitted us to revive the interest into the botanical study of the herbaceous plains in view of the possible development of cattle breeding. The problem of their origin has been examined; also the human influence in the past and present time and the correlation between man and the savanna have been studied. The different regional types of savanna have been compared with those of intertropical Africa.

Abstract

Integrated ichnology, sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy of the Lower Quartzite Member to the Arkosic Sandstone Member of the Koti Dhaman Formation (Cambrian Series 2, Stage 4), Tal Group, Nigali Dhar Syncline, Lesser Himalayan lithotectonic zone are presented. Trilobite traces of Gondwanan affinity i.e., Cruziana salomonis, Cruziana fasciculata, Rusophycus dispar and Rusophycus burjensis are recorded along with Arenicolites isp. and Skolithos isp. from the Lower Quartzite Member. A rich and diverse ichnoassemblage attributed to the Cruziana ichnofacies is described for the first time from the Arkosic Sandstone Member of the same formation. Seven ichnofossil assemblages, i.e., Cruziana-Rusophycus, Planolites-Palaeophycus, Cruziana problematica, Diplichnites, Cochlichnus anguineus, Bergaueria perata and Psammichnites gigas have been recognized in the Lower Quartzite to Arkosic Sandstone members of the Koti Dhaman Formation. Seven sedimentary facies i.e., sandstone–shale facies (FT1), cross-bedded (trough and planar) sandstone (FT2), bedded sandstone facies (FT3), shale facies (FT4), shale–sandstone facies (FT5), shale-rippled sandstone facies (FT6) and planar and trough cross-laminated sandstone (FT7) and four facies associations FA1-FA4 are identified in the Koti Dhaman Formation. The formation contains shallowing upward parasequences of a tidal flat complex. Overall, two major events are recognized: i) the break in sedimentation between the Lower Quartzite Member and the overlying Shale Member probably related to forced-regressive event and ii) the facies shift from FT6 to FT7 of the Arkosic Sandstone Member represents an erosive transgressive event; the surface is interpreted as wave ravinement surface, which also serves as a sequence boundary. Integrated ichnology, sedimentology and sequence stratigraphic studies indicate that the Lower Quartzite Member was deposited in a shallow subtidal sand sheet complex and tidal flat complex; the Shale Member was deposited in a mud flat setting of a tidal flat complex, and the Arkosic Sandstone Member in a mixed-flat (tidal flat complex) to sand sheet complex front and margin (subtidal sand sheet complex). Overall, the lower to middle part of the Koti Dhaman Formation represents a tide-dominated shallow subtidal–intertidal to mud-flat subenvironments of the tidal flat complex. A palaeogeographic reconstruction of lower Cambrian (516–514?Ma) is presented based on the distribution of trilobite traces from the Lesser Himalaya and the Bikaner–Nagaur area of Peninsular India (eastern Gondwana), Egypt, Jordan, Turkey (western Gondwana) and Canada (Avalonia).  相似文献

Aim To improve knowledge of the distribution of species and modern pollen dispersal in the puna vegetation belt (central Andes) for palaeoenvironmental analysis and reconstructions. Location Puna belt, Nevado Coropuna, Western Cordillera, Peru. Methods The vegetation facies and belts of the area were mapped by remote sensing using a March 1998 SPOT4 image. This was complemented by the interpretation of aerial photographs, by field sampling, and by the identification of plants. Data from 1940 to 1994 from the Peruvian meteorological station network were modelled to characterize the relationship between climate and vegetation. Twenty‐four soil‐surface samples were collected in the various vegetation facies identified on the map, and standard palynological techniques were applied to analyse these samples. A principal components analysis was performed on the pollen data set. Results The map shows three bioclimatic belts and seven facies in the puna sensu lato, and identifies the main plants that are characteristic of each bioclimatic area. The pollen results fit the vegetation facies and belts, including the plant species of the distinct facies that are well represented in the pollen assemblages. The mesotropical belt is characterized by the predominance of Asteraceae‐type Ambrosia; the supratropical belt shows significant frequencies of Asteraceae‐type Senecio; the orotropical belt is characterized by high frequencies of Apiaceae and includes Polylepis woodland and peat bogs; and the cryorotropical belt shows significant frequencies of Asteraceae‐type Senecio and Apiaceae. Main conclusions The pollen grains of the plants that grow on the puna sensu lato are generally entomophilous and are therefore not transported far from their plant source. The distinct bioclimatic facies and belts identified by the cartography can thus be well distinguished by their pollen production and deposition. We were therefore able to characterize the relationship between pollen, vegetation and climate that can be used for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. An altitudinal pollen gradient on the western slopes of the central Andes was revealed by the pollen study, with the succession of Asteraceae‐type Ambrosia (1800–2200 m), Malvaceae (2700–3300 m), Asteraceae‐type Senecio (3500–4100 m) and Apiaceae (above 4600 m).  相似文献

Summary Two methods for measuring the amount of linguistic change are described: 1. It is possible to measure the correspondence between two phoneme inventories of two periods in a language's development in the same way as in information theory between the inventories of the transmitted and received symbols (measure of correspondence B). 2. The knowledge of Pleistocene reef facies of Belize, Central America, is largely limited to outcrops in the northernmost part of the country. Otherwise, Pleistocene limestone, which forms the basement of the modern barrier and atoll reefs, occurs in the subsurface and is to a major extent unstudied. Based on the study of 40 m of core from 25 rotary core holes collected on central and southern Belize barrier and on atoll reefs, five Pleistocene reef facies are distinguished in the present study. They include (1) Acropora palmata grainstone, (2) Acropora cervicornis grainstone, (3) biogenic grainstone, (4) mollusk packstone, and (5) mollusk-foram wackestone. Facies 1 and 3 occur on marginal reefs, facies 2 is found on marginal and lagoonal reefs, and facies 4 and 5 mark lagoon shoals and lagoons, respectively. Most of the facies have equivalents in the Pleistocene of the wider Caribbean and also in the modern of the study area. Diagenetic features include dissolution, caliche formation, laminated blocky low-magnesium-calcite and dogtooth spars. Age data from Pleistocene corals obtained during earlier studies are discussed, and indicate deposition during marine isotope stage 5, between 140–80 ka bp.  相似文献

On the basis of thin-section studies of cuttings and a core from two wells in the Amapá Formation of the Foz do Amazonas Basin, five main microfacies have been recognized within three stratigraphic sequences deposited during the Late Paleocene to Early Eocene. The facies are: 1) Ranikothalia grainstone to packstone facies; 2) ooidal grainstone to packstone facies; 3) larger foraminiferal and red algal grainstone to packstone facies; 4) Amphistegina and Helicostegina packstone facies; and 5) green algal and small benthic foraminiferal grainstone to packstone facies, divisible locally into a green algal and the miliolid foraminiferal subfacies and a green algal and small rotaliine foraminiferal subfacies. The lowermost sequence (S1) was deposited in the Late Paleocene–Early Eocene (biozone LF1, equivalent to P3–P6?) and includes rudaceous grainstones and packstones with large specimens of Ranikothalia bermudezi representative of the mid- and inner ramp. The intermediate and uppermost sequences (S2 and S3) display well-developed lowstand deposits formed at the end of the Late Paleocene (upper biozone LF1) and beginning of the Early Eocene (biozone LF2) on the inner ramp (larger foraminiferal and red algal grainstone to packstone facies), in lagoons (green algal and small benthic foraminiferal facies) and as shoals (ooidal facies) or banks (Amphistegina and Helicostegina facies). Depth and oceanic influence were the main controls on the distribution of these microfacies. Stratal stacking patterns evident within these sequences may well have been related to sea level changes postulated for the Late Paleocene and Early Eocene. During this time, the Amapá Formation was dominated by cyclic sedimentation on a gently sloping ramp. Environmental and ecological stress brought about by sea level change at the end of the biozone LF1 led to the extinction of the larger foraminifera (Ranikothalia bermudezi).  相似文献

The relationship between total phytoplankton cell number, chlorophyll a, cell volume, and the response of these parameters to reactive phosphorus and nitrate in surface waters of Saronicos Gulf (Greece) was examined using simple and partial correlation statistics. Different conclusions could be drawn as to the comparability between biomass parameters and their interrelation with nutrients. Partial correlation analysis is considered to be a better method for comparing ecological data. The analysis of phytoplankton abundance should include determinations of as many biomass characteristics as possible since each has its own specificity.  相似文献

The rhynchonellid brachiopod Obliquorhynchia flustracea from the middle Danian (Paleocene) cool‐water coral mounds of the Faxe Formation, Denmark, exhibits commissural asymmetry, a rare feature in articulate brachiopods. It has been much discussed whether the underlying reasons for this asymmetry were species specific caused by pedicle attachment in the limited space between the branches of the scleractinian Dendrophyllia candelabrum. The two species are always found together, and the brachiopod is essentially missing outside facies characterized by Dcandelabrum. Based on morphological analyses and statistical tests, we suggest that ecophenotypic variation is the main reason for the variability in the external shell morphology and development of commissural asymmetry. Conditions such as sexual dimorphism and defects can be dismissed as a facilitating reason of phenotypic variation. This is a rare case where it is possible to directly link commissural asymmetry to mode of attachment on a specific host.  相似文献

Summary During the uppermost Carboniferous and lowermost Permian algal mounds were formed in inner shelf settings of the Carnic Alps (Austria/Italy). A specific mound type, characterized by the dominance of the dasyclad green alga Anthracoporella was studied in detail with regard to geometry, relationship between mound and intermound rocks, composition of the sediment, biota and diagenetic criteria. The two meter-sized mounds studied, occur within depositional sequences of transgressive systems tracts in the Lower Pseudoschwagerina Limestones (uppermost Gzhelian) at the flank of the Schulterkofel. The mounds consist of an Anthracoporella core facies with a spongecrust boundstone facies at the base and at the top. The massive limestones of the Anthracoporella core facies exhibit abundant algal tufts and bushes, frequently in life position. The limestones of the intermound facies represented by thin-bedded bioclastic wackestones and packstones with abundant phylloid algae underlie and overlie the mounds. Intercalations of intermound beds within the mound facies indicate sporadic disruption of mound growth. Onlapping of intermound beds on steep mound flanks indicate rapid stabilization and lithification of mound flanks and the existence of a positive paleorelief. Asymmetrical shape of the mounds may be current controlled. Mound and intermound biota differ in the prevailing algae but are relatively similar with regard to associated foraminifera. Conspicuous differences concern bioerosion and biogenic encrustations. Bothare, high in intermound areas but low in the Anthracoporella core facies. The mounds show no ecological zonation. The mounds grew by in-place accumulation of disintegrated algal material and trapped bioclastic material between erect algal thalli. The comparison of the various Anthracoporella mounds demonstrates that almost each mound had ist own history. Establishing a general model for these mounds is a hazardous venture.  相似文献

Summary The epicontinental pelagic to hemipelagic Upper Cenomanian and Lower Turonian successons of the Lower Saxony Basin (northwestern Germany) are represented by the Rotpl?ner facies on swells (multicolored marls and marly limestones) and the basinal Black Shales facies (marly limestones (Turbidites), black shales) in the local basins. Facies units are described with their lateral and vertical variation from both depositional environments and their correlation is discussed. The distinct Cenomanian-Turonian boundary facies is due to dilution of pelagic carbonate by siliciclastic material, volcanic ashfall, and substantial changes in carbonate, sedimentation rates by about an order of magnitude. The observed sediment geometries origin from preservation of sediments in areas where normal faults occur and erosion of the formerly deposited units in unfaulted areas (preservation of relicts). Erosion and redeposition on swells occurs in thin (<50 cm thick) debris flow and mud flow channels (1–100 m wide), sheet flows, and by turbidity currents. During the Upper Cenomanian the sediment transport is governed by gravity flow which is increasingly superimposed by storm deposition during the Lower Turonian. Lense-shaped tempestites (probably below average storm wave base) occur at the base of the Turonian (entry ofMytiloides hattini) in morphologically highest swell positions and migrate across the entire basin until the late Lower Turonian. The basinal facies is characterised by laminated and biotrubated black shales and mud turbidites that vary over short distances. Laminae show graded bedding and erosive contacts and were deposited by turbidity currents. Intercalated marly limestones are mud turbidities (some mudflows) that are coarsening upwards until the early Lower Turonian. Larger slides occurred predominantly in the late Upper Cenomanian. The sediment distribution is closely related to sea level changes and reflects short- and long-term fluctuations generating comparable stratigraphic trend in the sections, although basin and swell facies are always clearly distinguished. Lokal basin margins (e.g. primary fordeeps of sal domes) were probably limited by larger normal faults that prevented facies gradation between both depositional environments.  相似文献
