Trichaptum imbricatum, T. perenne and T. podocarpi are three new species from China. They are described, illustrated and compared in this paper with similar species. Trichaptum imbricatum is unique in its imbricate basidiocarps, white to cream hymenophores, small and regular pores, and scattered and thin-walled cystidia. Trichaptum perenne differs from other species in the genus in its perennial and pileate habit, its large pores and entire dissepiments, and oblong, ellipsoid basidiospores. Trichaptum podocarpi is distinguished in having totally resupinate basidiocarps, distinctly long cystidia, and in its habitat on Podocarpus. A key to species of Trichaptum occurring in China is provided; statistical variations of spore dimensions for each species are included in the key.  相似文献

The heterogeneous vegetation mosaic of the South Turkana region of north Kenya is associated with diversity in the region's physical environment. The abundance and distribution of the dominant species are related to gradients in those abiotic factors that influence water availability, including precipitation, soil texture, and topographic relief. Research focused on three Acacia species that are a major component of the Turkana vegetation; A. tortilis, A. senegal, and A. reficiens. These species each exhibit a different response to variations in abiotic factors. Consequently, species abundance varies independently across the landscape, creating a continuum of intergrading populations. Community types can be identified within the mosaic of intergrading populations. Although community borders are not discrete due to continual change in species abundance, types are identifiable and are repeated in areas with similar environmental conditions. The landscape patterns are representative of Whittaker's (1953) climaxas-pattern, with communities created by individual patterns of populations responding to environmental gradients, creating a continuum of community change across the landscape.  相似文献

Calcidiscus leptoporus is a cosmopolitan coccolithophore species, composed of three morphotypes characterised by differences in morphology and size. The seasonal dynamics of this species have been studied in four sediment trap and plankton time series covering different biogeographic settings. Investigated parameters were: variations in absolute and relative abundances of the three morphotypes, average size variations of the C. leptoporus assemblages, and intra-morphotype size variations. For each time series, and for the complete data set, the relationship between C. leptoporus dynamics and some environmental parameters was investigated. Seasonal variations can be recognised in the four time series, but the biogeographic pattern governing this seasonality is complex. The two best documented morphotypes show comparable seasonal fluctuations in absolute abundances, mainly co-varying with temperature and related factors such as water mixing. However, their relative abundances change with varying nutrient contents in the surface water masses, suggesting slight differences in their respective ecological preferences. Average size of the C. leptoporus assemblage provides information about the morphotype composition and allows a comparison of the seasonal variations observed in the present study and Holocene geographic patterns reported in the literature. Additionally, intra-morphotype size variations might be related to environmental changes.  相似文献

鸟类鸣唱存在广泛的地理变异,研究鸟类鸣唱变异的模式及其影响因素可帮助解释自然界中广泛而复杂的鸣声变异现象。灰腹地莺(Tesia cyaniventer)是在高黎贡山海拔2000-2800 m分布的小型地栖性森林鸟类。高黎贡山南北走向的山脊海拔通常在3000m以上,这导致灰腹地莺东、西坡种群被山脊所隔离。该种小鸟鸣声洪亮易于鉴别,其鸣声地理变异可揭示山地对鸟类种群产生的隔离效应。在高黎贡山片马垭口和独龙江垭口的东西坡4个地点录制了灰腹地莺的鸣声(n=58),基于声谱分析比较了种群间鸣唱的质量特征,发现种群间鸣唱型的共享程度极低,而音节型在4个种群间均有共享。进一步测量了11个鸣唱的数量特征参数,有6个参数在不同种群间有显著差异:最低频率、中心频率、频率宽度、起始音节频率、首二音节的时间间隔、句子平均音节数。种群间的两两比较表明,鸣声特征差异呈现"隔离-距离"共同作用的格局,但隔离的影响更大。研究表明山地系统中影响鸟类鸣声地理变异的因素较为复杂,山地隔离和空间距离均对灰腹地莺的鸣唱特征产生了影响。  相似文献

An unusually high divergence was observed in the ribosomal RNA genes of a free-living population of foraminifera belonging to the genusAmmonia. The sequences of a large-subunit (LSU) rDNA expansion segment D1 and flanking regions were obtained from 20 specimens namedAmmonia sp. 1 andAmmonia sp. 2. The sequence divergence between the two species averages 14%. Within each species it ranges from 0.2% to 7.1% inAmmonia sp. 1 and from 0.7% to 2.3% inAmmonia sp. 2. We did not find two specimens having identical sequences. Moreover, in opposition to the generally acaepted view, rDNA sequence variations were also found within a single individual. The variations among several rDNA copies in a single specimen ofAmmonia may reach up to 4.9%. Most of the observed variations result from multiplication of CA or TA serial repeats occurring in two particularly variable regions. 茜草属为茜草科模式属,全球约80种,中国有近一半的物种,是茜草属的重要分布中心,大部分隶属于sect.Oligoneura。但是,该组内各种间的形态特征错综复杂,依靠单个性状不易划定种间界限。该研究在全面衡量sect.Oligoneura组内各种间形态特征的基础上,选取该组20种共171份标本,对其3个数量性状和28个定性性状进行聚类分析和主成分分析。结果表明:在主成分分析中,前3个主成分累积贡献率有46.88%,性状的累积贡献率增长并不明显,但该结果仍与聚类分析结果一致。对前3个主成分贡献较大的特征包括叶形(叶长宽比)、叶柄长度、叶脉、每轮叶片数和生活型等,这些形态性状也是该属传统分类学中重要的物种鉴定特征。该研究结果与分子系统发育结果基本一致,支持该组内ser.Chinenses、R.mandersii group、R.angustissima group和R.siamensis group类群的划分,但并不支持ser.Cordifoliae单独成系。sect.Oligoneura内除少数物种外,大部分物种界限均比较清晰。形态计量学研究为sect.Oligoneura甚至茜草属的物种鉴定与划分提供了重要的参考意义。  相似文献

The present work deals with the temporal and bathymetrical variations of the epifaunal community associated with two species of pearl oysters (Pinctada mazatlanica and Pteria sterna) during a seed collecting season from June to November 1989. A total of 63 items (species, genera and/or families) were recorded; their variations in presence and abundance were followed during three periods (June–July, August–September and October–November). The collectors were examined for different immersion times (2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks) for each period. Community structure was compared through the Brillouin Index, the Morisita Index and the Importance Value.We define the chronology of spatfall for both species of pearl oysters and their bathymetrical distribution. Relationships between these species and the epifaunal community present into the collectors were analysed, searching for possible noxious effects on the survival of juvenile pearl oysters, and identifying index species related with their spatfall. A strategy for starting massive seed collection of both species is established, particularly for P. mazatlanica.  相似文献

Wetland‐adapted trees are known to transport soil‐produced methane (CH4), an important greenhouse gas to the atmosphere, yet seasonal variations and controls on the magnitude of tree‐mediated CH4 emissions remain unknown for mature forests. We examined the spatial and temporal variability in stem CH4 emissions in situ and their controls in two wetland‐adapted tree species (Alnus glutinosa and Betula pubescens) located in a temperate forested wetland. Soil and herbaceous plant‐mediated CH4 emissions from hollows and hummocks also were measured, thus enabling an estimate of contributions from each pathway to total ecosystem flux. Stem CH4 emissions varied significantly between the two tree species, with Alnus glutinosa displaying minimal seasonal variations, while substantial seasonal variations were observed in Betula pubescens. Trees from each species emitted similar quantities of CH4 from their stems regardless of whether they were situated in hollows or hummocks. Soil temperature and pore‐water CH4 concentrations best explained annual variability in stem emissions, while wood‐specific density and pore‐water CH4 concentrations best accounted for between‐species variations in stem CH4 emission. Our study demonstrates that tree‐mediated CH4 emissions contribute up to 27% of seasonal ecosystem CH4 flux in temperate forested wetland, with the largest relative contributions occurring in spring and winter. Tree‐mediated CH4 emissions currently are not included in trace gas budgets of forested wetland. Further work is required to quantify and integrate this transport pathway into CH4 inventories and process‐based models.  相似文献

Climate and land use change can alter the incidence and strength of biotic interactions, with important effects on the distribution, abundance and function of species. To assess the importance of these effects and their dynamics, studies quantifying how biotic interactions change in space and time are needed. We studied interactions between nettle-feeding butterflies and their shared natural enemies (parasitoids) locally and across 500 km latitudinal gradient in Sweden. We also examined the potential impact of the range-expansion of the butterfly Araschnia levana on resident butterflies via shared parasitoids, by studying how parasitism in resident butterflies covaries with the presence or absence of the newly-established species. We collected 6777 larvae of four nettle-feeding butterfly species (Aglais urticae, Aglais io, Ar. levana and Vanessa atalanta), over two years, at 19 sites distributed along the gradient. We documented the parasitoid complex for each butterfly species and measured their overlap, and analysed how parasitism rates were affected by butterfly species assemblage, variations in abundance, time, and the arrival of Ar. levana. Parasitoids caused high mortality, with substantial overlap in the complex of parasitoids associated with the four host butterflies. Levels of parasitism differed significantly among butterflies and were influenced by the local butterfly species assemblage. Our results also suggest that parasitism in resident butterflies is elevated at sites where Ar. levana has been established for a longer period. In our study system, variations in butterfly species assemblages were associated in a predictable way with substantial variations in rates of parasitism. This relationship is likely to affect the dynamics of the butterfly host species, and potentially cascade to the larger number of species with which they interact. These results highlight the importance of indirect interactions and their potential to reorganise ecological communities, especially in the context of shifts in species distributions in a warmer world.  相似文献

Aim The modern African murine rodent Oenomys is a semiarboreal genus characteristic of the rain forest zone. The size and shape geographical differentiation is studied in order to discuss the possible evolutionary patterns and constraints leading to this distribution. Location Two species of Oenomys have been previously recognized, corresponding to the West African forest block on the one hand and to the main forest block on the other hand. Both species have been sampled, and forty localities permit the study of the whole geographical range of Oenomys, from Guinea to Kenya. Methods A Fourier analysis applied to the outlines of the first upper and lower molars allows a quantification of the size and shape variations across the geographical range of Oenomys. Results This morphometrical analysis defines three morphological groups of Oenomys, corresponding to the West, Central, and East African forest zone. This result suggests the existence of an additional cryptic species. The Western group is characterized by broad asymmetrical molars and a small size. The Central African group has more elongated and larger molars while the Eastern African group displays extremely constricted molars and a small size. Main conclusion The shape can be considered as charactheristic of each group and its variations appear to be mostly related to phylogeny while size exhibits variations within each group related to climatic gradients. This discrepancy could be related to different genetic determinants for both characters, the shape being strongly genetically constrained while size can vary according to a wide range of environmental factors.  相似文献

Mating behaviour and associated songs were compared between 2 sympatric congeneric species,Nezara antennata andN. viridula, between which interspecific mating was known to occur under natural conditions. The fundamental sequence of mating behaviour for these species was the same. Three kinds of songs were recorded from each sex ofN. antennata. ForN. viridula, 4 kinds of male songs and 3 kinds of female songs were recorded. The songs which corresponded with definite behavioural bouts were distinct between these species. Some consideration was made as to why interspecific differences in the songs did not sufficiently engender ethological isolation. In addition, some geographic variations in the songs were shown among Yugoslavian (Čokl et al. 1972), American (Harris et al. 1982) and Japanese populations ofN. viridula. These variations were relatively inconspicuous when compared with the interspecific differences fromN. antennata.  相似文献

The evolution of genome size and base composition of DNA from various reptiles has been studied. DNA amount was measured cytophotometrically and GC concentration estimated by thermal denaturation. The Reptilia appear to be a fairly homogeneous group with respect to DNA quantity, although chelonians stand out because of their higher inter- and intrafamilial variability and DNA content. Quantitative DNA variations do not show a single evolutionary trend, but rather seem to have followed different patterns within each group.The differences in genome size between related species seem to be mainly the result of duplication or loss of DNA sequences characterized by a similar mean denaturation temperature. This agrees with observations of other authors that quantitative variations in reptiles are mainly due to differences in the amount of repetitive DNA.Several hypotheses on the significance of quantitative DNA variations in reptiles are discussed.  相似文献

Cosmopolitanism vs. endemism of microbial diversity in water has been debated for a long time. Finlay (2002) argued that reported similarities in microbial biodiversity in different lakes and oceans support cosmopolitanism of microorganisms. Lee and Patterson (1998) suggested that many endemism studies are flawed due to underrepresentation of taxa. On the other hand, Theriot and Stoermer (1984) showed that Stephanodiscus niagrarae, the centric diatom once thought to be a cosmopolitan species, actually consists of four slightly different species. Mating tests of Paramecium aurelia revealed 14 sibling species, which are morphologically almost identical (Sonneborn, 1957). Here, I present evidence for the cryptic speciation of Peridinium limbatum from two water bodies (Crystal Lake and Crystal Bog) that are near each other but chemically distinct. We observed that the two Peridinium limbatum had different responses to the same growth medium. Previous works at the Microbial Observatory program showed that their seasonal population dynamics were also different; while a summer bloom of Crystal Bog Peridinium limbatum was correlated with a dramatic decrease in phytoplankton diversity, and an extreme drop in bacterial diversity, a bloom of Crystal Lake Peridinium limbatum was not. To see the genetic variations in this study, I sequenced internal transcribed spacer region 1 and 2 from the two Peridinium limbatum. The sequence variations were 8.53% in ITS1 and 8.06% in ITS2, which were much larger than within variations. In another ongoing study that I expect to complete before the meeting, I've been testing their possible allelopathic differences on Cryptomonas.  相似文献

Comparisons of variations of morphological features, treated quantitatively, of the megagametophytic stages in Cornus asperifolia Michaux., C. stricta Lam., C. amomum Miller, C. florida L., and C. alternifolia L. suggest differences in growth patterns of their megagametophytes. The successful application of the clearing fluid 41/2 (Herr Fluid) affords adequate data for assessment of quantitative features of such minute plants. This method, less time consuming than traditional paraffin sectioning techniques, allows for statistical treatment of a sufficient number of species for valid inferences of angiospermous embryological features. An investigation of megagametophytic size was directed both to successive stages within each species and to each stage among all five species. In both instances, means, confidence intervals (CI), and growth increments (GI) were compared. Without exception, the largest means for length and width occurred in the 8-nucleate stage for all species. The greatest GI for length occurred in the 8-nucleate stage for C. stricta, C. alternifolia, and C. asperifolia and in the 4-nucleate stage for C. florida. The 4- and 8-nucleate GI were nearly equal for C. amomum. Overlapping of 95 % CI between successive stages indicated uniform growth between stages for the megagametophyte. Only C. asperifolia had CI overlapping between all successive stages for length and width. These five species are clearly separated on the basis not only of variations in qualitative features but also on megagametophytic growth patterns among species.  相似文献

Genetic population structure of Japanese bagrid catfishes   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2  
 The genetic population structures of four bagrid catfishes, allopatrically distributed in Japan, were investigated based on nucleotide sequence data from the mitochondrial control region (ca. 420 bp) of 296 specimens from 29 river systems. Almost no sequence variations were found within riverine populations of each species, especially Pseudobagrus ichikawai, in which no individual variations were found in any specimens from eight river systems throughout its range. In contrast, the P. nudiceps population in the Lake Biwa–Yodo River system showed relatively high polymorphism. These results imply that the riverine populations have undergone a bottleneck situation at some time. Most of the riverine populations of P. nudiceps and P. ichikawai, which are mainly distributed in areas around an inland sea or bay, were fixed into a single haplotype for each species. On the other hand, in P. tokiensis and P. aurantiacus, which are distributed in areas surrounding extensive mountainous regions, the haplotype compositions clearly differed among conspecific populations. These results suggest that some degree of gene flow existed among populations of each of the former two species during glacial regression periods. Based on the genetic variability of P. fulvidraco, widely distributed in continental East Asia, and the degree of genetic divergence between P. aurantiacus and its possible sister species, P. taeniatus, in China, the evolutionary rate of East Asian bagrids appears to be relatively low, estimated at a few percent per million years or less. Abstract It is assumed that the phytochemistry of browse species protects their biomass and nutrients against herbivory. In this study we were primarily interested in (i) seasonal and phenology‐related variations in leaf chemistry, and (ii) chemistry‐related variations in the feeding behaviour of domestic goats. Such knowledge would guide management‐orientated modelling of browse–browser interactions in seasonal, subtropical zones where goats are abundant. The browse species studied were typical of semiarid savannas in southern Africa: Grewia occidentalis L. (Tiliaceae), Scutia myrtina (Burm. f) Kurz (Rhamnaceae), Diospyros lycioides Desf. ssp. lycioides (Ebenaceae), Rhus longispina Eckl. and Zeyh. (Anacardiaceae), Ehretia rigida (Thunb.) Druce (Boraginaceae) and Acacia karroo Hayne (Mimosoideae). Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), condensed tannins (CT), protein‐precipitating tannins (PPT), total phenols (TP), cellulose and lignin concentrations were estimated for each species during the late dormant and early growing seasons. N, P, CT and TP were elevated during the growth season, while cellulose, lignin and PPT decreased. Unlike cytoplasm contents, which varied seasonally, cell wall and vacuole contents varied both seasonally and among species. Except that seasonal variation in N of deciduous species was greater than that of evergreen species, leaf phenology was not related to variations in forage quality. Short‐term intake rates were not related to primary metabolite concentrations, but were positively related to secondary metabolites. Elevated intake rates of putative defences were concluded to be side‐effects of attempts by goats to increase nutrient intake rate, indicating tolerance of chemical defences. Without support for the hypothesis that chemical defences are correlated to canopy retention, we propose an alternative hypothesis, that defences are distributed among woody plants in semiarid, subtropical savannas according to shoot morphology because it affects the vulnerability of plant parts to browsers.  相似文献

Despite the fact that Drosophilidae is a very diverse and well‐studied taxon, the New World genus Rhinoleucophenga is yet poorly understood even in regard to species distribution and morphological variability pattern. In this sense, R. punctulata is a species widely distributed in the Neotropical region. Specimens of R. punctulata were collected from different biomes in Brazil: Pampa, Cerrado and Caatinga sensu strictu, and a southern Amazonian savannah enclave area. Geographical variations in the external body morphology and in the morphology of spermatheca were noticed among the different populations. The hypothesis that each population could be a different species was tested through molecular data. A fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxydase subunit I (COI) gene was sequenced to perform phylogenetic analyses through neighbor‐joining and Bayesian inferences. Pairwise genetic divergences of COI sequences were calculated using DNA barcode premises. The analyzed populations presented different variation levels in both morphology and molecular traits. However, new species were not proposed because the intra‐population nucleotide variations exceeded the inter‐population ones. The noticeable morphological and genetic variations revealed among the four studied populations of R. punctulata in different biomes of Brazil suggest the necessity that morphological, distributional and molecular data at the population level should be integrated into complementary datasets to better understand the biological diversity of Rhinoleucophenga through Neotropical environments.  相似文献

A phylogeographic study of four tree species (Padus grayana, Euonymus oxyphyllus, Magnolia hypoleuca, and Carpinus laxiflora) growing in Japanese deciduous broad-leaved forests was conducted based on chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variations. Using nucleotide sequences of 702–1,059 bp of intergenic spacers of cpDNA, 20, 27, eight, and eight haplotypes were detected among 251, 251, 226, and 262 individuals sampled from 67, 79, 75, and 71 populations of the above species, respectively. The geographical pattern of the cpDNA variations was highly structured in each species, and the following three regional populations were genetically highly differentiated among all four species: (1) the Sea of Japan-side area, (2) the Kanto region, and (3) southwestern Japan. Based on some interspecific similarities among the phylogeographic patterns, the following migration scenario of Japanese deciduous broad-leaved forests was postulated. During the last glacial maximum (LGM), the forests were separately distributed in six regions. After LGM, as the climate warmed, the forests in eastern Japan separately expanded from each of the refugia along the Sea of Japan-side or along the Pacific Ocean-side. In contrast, those in southwestern Japan retreated and moved to high altitudes from each of the continuous forests.  相似文献

Abstract

Researches on the water content and osmotic pressure in plants of three forest associations in the Marche. I° - The water content. — The main forest associations of the Umbro-Marchigiani Appennines are the Orneto-Quercetum ilicis, the Quercetum pubescentis (s. l.) and the Fagetum. In each of these associations a typical station has been chosen where the most important species have been followed from March to November 1963 in order to determine the seasonal variations of their water content (« T.I. »)expressed as percentage of fresh weight.

The annual curves show that the water content reaches very high levels in the early stages of plant development while it falls to lower levels later in the season when the leaves are full grown. The water content of each species follows a different course and can be considered a specific character. Taking into account the maximum and minimum levels of water content of the three groups of species a « hydric spectrum » has been worked out for the three associations.

The water content of each species has also been calculated as percentage of dry weight (imbibition percentage: « G.I. »).  相似文献
