Explant organ culture: A review

Organ explant culture models offer several significant advantages for studies of patho-physiologic mechanisms like cell injury, secretion, differentiation and structure development. Organs or small explants/slices can be removed in vivo and maintained in vitro for extended periods of time if careful attention is paid to the media composition, substrate selection, and atmosphere. In the case of human tissues obtained from autopsy or surgery, additional attention must be paid to the postmortem interval, temperature, hydration, and cause of death. Explant organ culture has been effectively utilized to establish outgrowth cell cultures and characterize the histiotypic relationships between the various cell types within an organ or tissue.J. Probiotics,prebiotics, and COVID-19 infection: A review article

The beneficial live microbes of humans and animals are termed probiotics, and the chemical compounds that improve the growth of probiotics are known as prebiotics. Paraprobiotics and postbiotics refer to dead or inactivated living cells of probiotics and healthful metabolic products that are produced by the living cells of probiotics, respectively. Although the healthful, functional, nutritional, and immune benefits of probiotics and prebiotics are scientifically well established beyond a reasonable doubt, their potential biological roles against COVID-19 infection still warrant further clinical and laboratory investigation.     

Mycetomas in Iran: a review article

Mycetomas are the subcutaneous and relatively rare chronic pustular infections. The etiologic agents of mycetomas are a group of saprophytic fungi and actinomycetes living in soil. We retrospectively discussed the overall prevalence of mycetomas and the prevalence of infective agents in Iran between 1972 and 2005. Seventy-six cases of mycetomas have been reported from various geographical locations in Iran during 33 years. Analysis of the records revealed that 84.5% were actinomycetoma and only 15.5% were eumycetoma. Disease mainly has been seen in foot, and the male to female ratio was 2:1. Mycetomas were abundant among farmers in rural areas of Iran. The commonest agents of mycetomas were Nocardia asteroids, Actinomadura madura (actinomycetoma) and Allesheria boydii (eumycetoma). The peak age of onset was between 31 and 51 years.     

海萝属藻类繁殖生物学及增养殖研究进展

海萝属(Gloiopeltis)的经济价值颇高,其藻类提取物在化工、医药和食品等领域有着广泛应用,但近年来的过度开采导致自然海区内海萝属藻类资源量日益下降。目前海萝属藻类仍处于粗放式增殖状态,亟待开展规模化的人工养殖,然而其养殖方面的相关研究与其他经济海藻相比明显滞后。本文概述了海萝属的空间分布情况,并对海萝属藻类的繁殖生物学研究进行回顾,介绍了其生活史、繁殖方式、孢子保存方法及萌发过程。对生理生态学研究进行了重点描述,包括影响孢子释放、附着、萌发与成活的因素,以及影响藻体生长、繁殖及存活的因素。概述了海萝属藻类增养殖领域的研究及应用现状。指出选育耐高温且生长性状良好的新品系是今后海萝属藻类养殖业发展的重点内容。
