A model-system is established to analyze purine and pyrimidine metabolism leading to DNA synthesis. The principal aim is to explore the flow and regulation of terminal deoxynucleoside triophosphates (dNTPs) in various input and parametric conditions. A series of flow equations are established, which are subsequently converted to differential equations. These are programmed (Fortran) and analyzed on a Cray X-MP/48 supercomputer. The pool concentrations are presented as a function of time in conditions in which various pertinent parameters of the system are modified. The system is formulated by 100 differential equations.  相似文献

The present work is devoted to study the numerical simulation for unsteady MHD flow and heat transfer of a couple stress fluid over a rotating disk. A similarity transformation is employed to reduce the time dependent system of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) to ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The Runge-Kutta method and shooting technique are employed for finding the numerical solution of the governing system. The influences of governing parameters viz. unsteadiness parameter, couple stress and various physical parameters on velocity, temperature and pressure profiles are analyzed graphically and discussed in detail.  相似文献

This paper considers systems of differential equations that describe flows in renal networks. The flow geometry is of the type that occurs in modelling the renal medulla. The unknowns in the system include the flow rate, the hydrostatic pressure, and the concentrations of the various solutes. Existence and uniqueness of solutions of the appropriate boundary value problems are established, in the case of small permeability coefficients and transport rates, or large diffusion coefficients and small resistance to flow constants.Work supported in part by NIH Grants 5-R01-AM28617 and 7-R01-DK38817Work supported in part by NIH Grant 5-R01-AM20373  相似文献

The present analysis deals with flow and heat transfer aspects of a micropolar nanofluid between two horizontal parallel plates in a rotating system. The governing partial differential equations for momentum, energy, micro rotation and nano-particles concentration are presented. Similarity transformations are utilized to convert the system of partial differential equations into system of ordinary differential equations. The reduced equations are solved analytically with the help of optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM). Analytical solutions for velocity, temperature, micro-rotation and concentration profiles are expressed graphically against various emerging physical parameters. Physical quantities of interest such as skin friction co-efficient, local heat and local mass fluxes are also computed both analytically and numerically through mid-point integration scheme. It is found that both the solutions are in excellent agreement. Local skin friction coefficient is found to be higher for the case of strong concentration i.e. n=0, as compared to the case of weak concentration n=0.50. Influence of strong and weak concentration on Nusselt and Sherwood number appear to be similar in a quantitative sense.  相似文献

Modifications based on experimental results reported in the literature are made to the Hodgkin-Huxley equations to describe the electrophysiological behavior of the Aplysia abdominal ganglion R15 cell. The system is then further modified to describe the effects with the application of the drug tetrodotoxin (TTX) to the cells' bathing medium. Methods of the qualitative theory of differential equations are used to determine the conditions necessary for such a system of equations to have an oscillatory solution. A model satisfying these conditions is shown to preduct many experimental observations of R15 cell behavior. Numerical solutions are obtained for differential equations satisfying the conditions of the model. These solutions are shown to have a form similar to that of the bursting which is characteristic of this cell, and to preduct many results of experiments conducted on this cell. The physiological implications of the model are discussed.  相似文献

A model system (1) was established to analyze purine and pyrimidine metabolism. This system has been expanded to include macrosimulation of DNA synthesis and the study of its regulation by terminal deoxynucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs) via a complex set of interactions. Computer experiments reveal that our model exhibits adequate and reasonable sensitivity in terms of dNTP pool levels and rates of DNA synthesis when inputs to the system are varied. These simulation experiments reveal that in order to achieve maximum DNA synthesis (in terms of purine metabolism), a proper balance is required in guanine and adenine input into this metabolic system. Excessive inputs will become inhibitory to DNA synthesis. In addition, studies are carried out on rates of DNA synthesis when various parameters are changed quantitatively. The current system is formulated by 110 differential equations.  相似文献

In this paper, the heat transfer effect on the unsteady boundary layer flow of a Casson fluid past an infinite oscillating vertical plate with Newtonian heating is investigated. The governing equations are transformed to a systems of linear partial differential equations using appropriate non-dimensional variables. The resulting equations are solved analytically by using the Laplace transform method and the expressions for velocity and temperature are obtained. They satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions and reduce to some well-known solutions for Newtonian fluids. Numerical results for velocity, temperature, skin friction and Nusselt number are shown in various graphs and discussed for embedded flow parameters. It is found that velocity decreases as Casson parameters increases and thermal boundary layer thickness increases with increasing Newtonian heating parameter.  相似文献

A computer model for simulating pressure and flow propagation in the human arterial system is developed. The model is based on the one-dimensional flow equations and includes nonlinearities arising from geometry and material properties. Fifty-five arterial segments, representing the various major arteries, are combined to form the model of the arterial system. Particular attention is paid to the development of peripheral pressure and flow pulses under normal flow conditions and under conditions of arterial and aortic stenoses. Results show that the presence of severe arterial stenoses significantly affects the nature of the distal pressure and flow pulses. Aortic stenoses also have a profound effect on central and peripheral pressure pulse formation. Comparison with the published experimental data suggests that the model is capable of simulating arterial flow under normal flow conditions as well as conditions of stenotic obstructions in a satisfactory manner.  相似文献

A set of differential equations is formulated to describe the rapid exchange (time scale, approximately 0.01 to approximately 10 s) of a labelled solute across the membranes of cells in suspension. The labelling is achieved with nuclear magnetic resonance by exposure of the system to a high intensity radio-frequency pulse, and the excited nuclei relax to the equilibrium state with a short half life. An analytical expression for the decay of the magnetic resonance signal is presented; the solution involves the determination of eigenvalues, of an array of Laplace-Carson transformed differential equations, by use of the general solution of a quartic polynomial. Simulations of the behaviour of the exchange system using various conditions of cell number, rate constants and nuclear magnetic relaxation times are presented. The marked concentration dependence of the extent of reaction at a given time has not previously been reported for nuclear magnetic resonance exchange systems and is a feature anticipated from the known saturability of several membrane transport systems including glucose transport into human erythrocytes. The theory is readily generalized to other model systems by appropriate reinterpretation of the physical meaning of various parameters; the general form of the solution holds in many biological contexts other than membrane transport and includes equilibrium enzyme kinetics.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the combined effects of Newtonian heating and internal heat generation/absorption in the two-dimensional flow of Eyring-Powell fluid over a stretching surface. The governing non-linear analysis of partial differential equations is reduced into the ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting problems are computed for both series and numerical solutions. Series solution is constructed using homotopy analysis method (HAM) whereas numerical solution is presented by two different techniques namely shooting method and bvp4c. A comparison of homotopy solution with numerical solution is also tabulated. Both solutions are found in an excellent agreement. Dimensionless velocity and temperature profiles are plotted and discussed for various emerging physical parameters.  相似文献

In this study, the Spectral Relaxation Method (SRM) is used to solve the coupled highly nonlinear system of partial differential equations due to an unsteady flow over a stretching surface in an incompressible rotating viscous fluid in presence of binary chemical reaction and Arrhenius activation energy. The velocity, temperature and concentration distributions as well as the skin-friction, heat and mass transfer coefficients have been obtained and discussed for various physical parametric values. The numerical results obtained by (SRM) are then presented graphically and discussed to highlight the physical implications of the simulations.  相似文献

A previous model of the mechanisms of flow through epithelia was modified and extended to include hydrostatic and osmotic pressures in the cells and in the peritubular capillaries. The differential equations for flow and concentration in each region of the proximal tubule were derived. The equations were solved numerically by a finite difference method. The principal conclusions are: (i) Cell NaCl concentration remains essentially isotonic over the pressure variations considered; (ii) channel NaCl concentration varies only a few mosmol from isotonicity, and the hydrostatic and osmotic pressure differences across the cell wall are of the same order of magnitude; (iii) both reabsorbate osmolality and pressure-induced flow are relatively insensitive to the geometry of the system; (iv) a strong equilibrating mechanism exists in the sensitivity of the reabsorbate osmolality to luminal osmolality; this mechanism is far more significant than any other parameter change.  相似文献

A modern theory of the calculus of variations is used to form necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a Lagrangian representation of a system of first-order ordinary differential equations. There exists a theorem to the effect that when a system of ordinary differential equations is variationally self-adjoint, the fulfillment of such conditions is guaranteed. In addition, self-adjointness, allows establishement of an algorithm by which a Lagrangian for the system may be explicitly constructed. Examples in mathematical biology are given to illustrate the use of the stated theorem.  相似文献

A mathematical model describing the dynamical interactions of bidirectional associative memory networks involving transmission delays is considered. The influence of a dead zone or a zone of noactivation on the global stability is investigated and various easily verifiable sets of sufficient conditions are established. The asymptotic nature of solutions when the given system of equations does not possess an equilibrium pattern is discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the slip effects on the boundary layer flow and heat transfer characteristics of a power-law fluid past a porous flat plate embedded in the Darcy type porous medium. The nonlinear coupled system of partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer of a power-law fluid is transformed into a system of nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations by applying a suitable similarity transformation. The resulting system of ordinary differential equations is solved numerically using Matlab bvp4c solver. Numerical results are presented in the form of graphs and the effects of the power-law index, velocity and thermal slip parameters, permeability parameter, suction/injection parameter on the velocity and temperature profiles are examined.  相似文献

A rotational flow of a conducting viscous medium near an extended dielectric disk in a uniform axial magnetic field is analyzed in the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) approach. An analytical solution to the system of nonlinear differential MHD equations of motion in the boundary layer for the general case of different rotation velocities of the disk and medium is obtained using a modified Slezkin–Targ method. A particular case of a medium rotating near a stationary disk imitating the end surface of a laboratory device is considered. The characteristics of a hydrodynamic flow near the disk surface are calculated within the model of a finite-thickness boundary layer. The influence of the magnetic field on the intensity of the secondary flow is studied. Calculations are performed for a weakly ionized dense plasma flow without allowance for the Hall effect and plasma compressibility. An MHD flow in a rotating cylinder bounded from above by a retarding cap is considered. The results obtained can be used to estimate the influence of the end surfaces on the main azimuthal flow, as well as the intensities of circulating flows in various devices with rotating plasmas, in particular, in plasma centrifuges and laboratory devices designed to study instabilities of rotating plasmas.  相似文献

A multiscale approach for modelling wave propagation in an arterial segment   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A mathematical model of blood flow through an arterial vessel is presented and the wave propagation in it is studied numerically. Based on the assumption of long wavelength and small amplitude of the pressure waves, a quasi-one-dimensional (1D) differential model is adopted. It describes the non-linear fluid-wall interaction and includes wall deformation in both radial and axial directions. The 1D model is coupled with a six compartment lumped parameter model, which accounts for the global circulatory features and provides boundary conditions. The differential equations are first linearized to investigate the nature of the propagation phenomena. The full non-linear equations are then approximated with a numerical finite difference method on a staggered grid. Some numerical simulations show the characteristics of the wave propagation. The dependence of the flow, of the wall deformation and of the wave velocity on the elasticity parameter has been highlighted. The importance of the axial deformation is evidenced by its variation in correspondence of the pressure peaks. The wave disturbances consequent to a local stiffening of the vessel and to a compliance jump due to prosthetic implantations are finally studied.  相似文献
