Oryctocephalid trilobites from Lower Middle Cambrian strata of the eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco, are the first described Oryctocephalidae known from Africa. They represent the new genus and species Shergoldiella vincenti. However, a similar species was earlier described as Tonkinella sequei Liñán et Gozalo, 1999, from coeval lower Middle Cambrian strata of the Iberian Chains, northern Spain. This Iberian species is imperfectly preserved and assigned herein to Shergoldiella with reservations. If this assignment is correct, it would reinforce earlier suggested correlations between Morocco and Spain. Nevertheless, Shergoldiella suggests a morphocline from a typical oryctocephalid-type morphology towards the Tonkinella-type morphology. Close similarity with Ovatoryctocara ovata suggests a similar stratigraphic position in accordance with earlier suggested intercontinental correlations.  相似文献

Global records of Early Cambrian acritarchs from the Skiagia plexus reveal that they are stratigraphically significant and can be used as biostratigraphic markers. Skiagia ornata and Skiagia ciliosa have a cosmopolitan distribution and the levels of their first appearance datums are proposed to serve as biostratigraphic horizons for interregional correlation. These levels are close to the lower boundary of the undefined Cambrian Stage 3, and within the Stage 3, respectively. The acritarch assemblage diagnostic of the Heliosphaeridium dissimilare-S. ciliosa Zone of Baltica is recorded worldwide and some species are traced on four of the Cambrian continents that include South Australia, South China and Laurentia. This supports the intercontinental correlation of certain Lower Cambrian strata and establishes the time equivalence between the regional trilobite zones to which these strata are attributed. The regional zonation is briefly reviewed for the purpose of comparing and evaluating the acritarch ranges. The biostratigraphic correlation of the Lower Cambrian strata, belonging to different faunal provinces, is based for the first time on the same fossil species, which have a cosmopolitan distribution and well-defined first appearance datums, and on the entire diagnostic acritarch assemblages.  相似文献

The bioeroding foraminifer Troglotella incrustans Wernli and Fookes (Bolletino della Societa Paleontologica Italiana 31, 1992, 95), is widely reported from Bajocian?, and Oxfordian to Lower Cenomanian (with a Late Jurassic acme) shallow‐water limestones of the Tethyan realm. A single specimen of a boring foraminifer, assigned to T. incrustans, has now been observed from the Lower Permian (Sakmarian) Community Pit Formation of the Doña Ana Mountains, New Mexico, USA. Surviving the end‐Permian mass extinction, T. incrustans might be a Lazarus taxon that persisted in refuges. This finding represents the oldest record of a foraminifer exhibiting an euendolithic way of life. Boring foraminifera have not been previously recorded from strata older than the Jurassic. Boring traces of potentially foraminiferan origin, however, have been already reported from the Lower Carboniferous (?Ordovician).  相似文献

Relatively large tetrapod footprints from Lower Pennsylvanian strata of the Pottsville Formation in the Warrior basin coal field of Alabama were previously assigned to the ichnogenus Attenosaurus. However, three morphotypes are present, and we assign these tracks to Attenosaurus, a new ichnogenus (Alabamasauripus) and Dimetropus. Most of these tracks apparently were made by large pelycosaurs, for which there is no bone record older than Late Pennsylvanian.  相似文献

Here we describe a number of mostly isolated bird and non-avian dinosaur footprints from the Huangyangquan track site in the Lower Cretaceous Lower Layer of the Tugulu Group near Huangyangquan Reservoir in the Wuerhe District, Karamay, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. Bird footprints at the site pertain to Koreanaornis dodsoni n. ichnosp., Goseongornipes isp., Aquatilavipes isp., and Moguiornipes robusta n. ichnogen. n. ichnosp. Moguiornipes tracks may be the products of a bird with lobed feet. These shorebird-morph tracks are the first solid evidence of birds in the Tugulu Group, and greatly enrich the known faunal diversity of the Lower Layer of the Tugulu Group. The Huangyangquan avian ichnofauna is comparable to those of the Jindong Formation, Korea and the Dakota Formation, USA. Non-avian dinosaur footprints at the site pertain to cf. Jialingpus isp., Asianopodus isp., and Kayentapus isp. This is the first report of Jialingpus from Lower Cretaceous strata. The discoveries of Asianopodus isp. and Kayentapus isp. increase the known ranges of these two ichnogenera.  相似文献

The incertae sedis Carpathoporella Dragastan, 1995, reported from the Lower Cretaceous of the Western Tethyan domain, is usually interpreted as remains of calcareous algae (Dasycladales or Characeae). New thin-section material from the Aptian of Albania sheds light not only on its biogenic nature but also on the morphological variability of this taxon. In fact, Carpathoporella represents the debris of colonial, bushy, most likely gorgonid octocorals with tuberculated spheroids that may be fused at least near the basal root-like holdfast. Colony branching originates from longitudinally grooved calcareous branches or internodes. Possible relationships to other Upper Cretaceous to Palaeogene genera are discussed and a revised critical inventory of Cretaceous octocorals is presented. Due to the evidenced morphological features, Carpathoporella could either represent an ancestral isidid octocoral of the order Alcyonacea such as Moltkia Steenstrup or, due to the likely primary aragonitic skeletal mineralogy, a representative of Epiphaxum Lonsdale of the order Helioporacea. Due to morphological analogies, the new combination Carpathoporella elliotti (Radoičić) is proposed. In any case, the Lower Cretaceous record from Tethyan peri-reefal shallow-water carbonates is highlighted since numerous skeletal findings of fossil gorgonid Octocorallia were so far only known from Upper Cretaceous and younger strata of outer shelf environments of the boreal realm. The origin of deep-water Upper Cretaceous octocorals from Lower Cretaceous shallow-water taxa such as Carpathoporella is proposed as a possible further example of onshore/offshore evolutionary pattern.  相似文献

Recent collections from six sections in Lanongla area, Tethyan Himalaya allow the establishment of four buchia assemblages. In ascending order, they are Buchia-Buchia spitiensis, Buchia masquensis-Buchia rugasa, Buchia blanfordiana, Buchia piochii and Buchia subokensis assemblages. These Buchia assemblages first demonstrate that not only the Upper Jurassic strata but also the highest Buchia assemblage-Buchia subokensis, which appeared in Lower Cretaceous strata all over the world are present in Lanongla area. This first records the highest Buchia assemblage in Lanongla area. __________ Translated from Acta Scientiarum Naturalium Universitatis Pekinensis, 2005, 41 (4) [译自: 北京大学学报( 自然科学版), 2005,41(4)]  相似文献

Diurnal vertical migrations (DVM) behaviour of cladocerans was investigated in two mesotrophic Irish lakes connected by a canal, characterised by interesting differences in the presence of zooplanktivorous predators. In Doon Upper, fish (mostly juvenile perch and roach) and a little-studied phantom midge Mochlonyx fuliginosus (Chaoboridae) were found, but Doon Lower was solely inhabited by fish. As the presence of diverse predators may alter spatial avoidance behaviour of zooplankton prey in different ways, the aim of this study was to determine whether and how two predator types, fish and phantom midge larvae, have changed DVM pattern of cladocerans during day and night in Doon lakes. Two sampling series of phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish, and water physical analyses were conducted on 09–10 June and 19–20 September 2007 in both lakes. In the study conducted in June, under a similar distribution of M. fuliginosus and juvenile fish in Doon Upper, a reverse migration of Daphnia galeata was observed as a strategy allowing them to avoid both types of predators. However, in September, when M. fuliginosus lived in a 24 h refugium below the oxycline as a response to increasing predation risk posed by YOY fish penetrated the upper strata of water during day and night, reverse migrations of D. galeata were not clear. In Doon Lower, normal migration was observed as an advantageous behavioural response against visual predators (fish), in both large and small Cladocera species: D. galeata, Diaphanosoma branchyurum and Bosmina sp. Thus, our results indicate dissimilar migration patterns of D. galeata depending on the presence of one (Doon Lower) or two predators with different predation behaviour (Doon Upper).  相似文献

In 1858, Edward Hitchcock named Sphaerapus larvalis and S. magnus for burrows from the nonmarine Lower Jurassic Turners Falls Formation in Massachusetts. Walpia hermitensis White, 1929, from the Lower Permian Hermit Shale, Arizona, is also a little known ichnotaxon. Examination of the type material indicates that Sphaerapus is a senior subjective synonym of Walpia. Sphaerapus is also a nomen oblitum, but Walpia has not been sufficiently used to replace its senior synonym as a conserved name; thus, we use the senior synonym Sphaerapus as the valid name of this ichnogenus, which is monospecific (S. larvalis = S. magnus = W. hermitensis). Numerous specimens of Sphaerapus from the Lower Permian of New Mexico and Texas, and a new record from the Lower Jurassic of Massachusetts show that it is a horizontal endichnion or exichnion having an unpacked tunnel with a cylindrical to ellipsoidal cross section, in some specimens branching, and lined with flattened, lenticular, non-coprolitic sediment pellets that are irregularly arranged and in some specimens imbricated. The pellets distinguish Sphaerapus from other endichnia. Sphaerapus resembles burrows of recent variegated mud-loving beetles and mole crickets, so Sphaerapus was likely produced by a hexapod similarly adapted for subsurface, compaction burrowing. Variation in pellet shape and arrangement in Sphaerapus reflects fluidity of the sediment burrowed, so this variation is a taphonomic artifact of no ichnotaxonomic significance. The latest Wolfcampian first appearance of Sphaerapus is not facies related, as similar facies lacking Sphaerapus are present in middle-late Wolfcampian strata. Therefore, the first appearance of Sphaerapus may reflect the evolutionary first appearance of a hexapod that moved through the sediment by compaction tunneling. However, the stratigraphically disjunct distribution of Sphaerapus may indicate that its preservation and fossilization were sensitive to paleoenvironmental and/or taphonomic factors that may also be involved in its first appearance.  相似文献

The paper presents preliminary characteristics of a new perisphinctid assemblage from the Lower Oxfordian section of Zalas near Krakow, regarded as the classic one for southern Poland. The assemblage is derived from strata of the Cordatum Subzone, Cordatum Zone. Two major groups of perisphinctids are differentiated. The assemblage appears similar to those described by Neumann from Cetechowitz 〚12〛, Bourseau from ‘Terres noires’ of de Beauvoisin in France 〚2〛, and Gygi from Switzerland 〚9〛. It fills very well a gap in our knowledge of this fauna from upper parts of the Lower Oxfordian and further studies should make it possible to propose and define a new biostratigraphic unit. A new ammonite species Perisphinctes (Arisphinctes?) orbignyi n. sp. is described. Its name is given to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Alcide d’Orbigny and his contribution to the developments of stratigraphy of the Mesozoic, especially Jurassic strata.  相似文献

The problematic organism, Sporocarpon, was among the first fossil fungi to be described. The genus was actually a heterogeneous assemblage of fungal forms, and was eventually divided into several taxa including Sporocarpon, Dubiocarpon, and Mycocarpon. In the present paper these organisms, as well as a similar, previously undescribed genus, Coleocarpon; are described from Lower, Middle, and Upper Pennsylvanian strata in North America, and from Upper Carboniferous sediments in England. Although initially considered to be radiolarian-like protozoa, these structures show far more similarity to ascomycetous cleistothecia. All forms are ornamented, spherical bodies with a complex wall which encloses scattered asci and ascospores. Taxa are distinguished primarily by differences in the organization of the cleistothecial wall. Structurally similar organisms are found today among the Eurotiales.  相似文献

Growth and photosynthesis of an edible cyanobacterium, Ge‐Xian‐Mi (Nostoc), were investigated with differently sized colonies. Both photosynthesis and growth were dependent on the colony size. Compared with larger ones, smaller colonies grew faster regardless of the levels of light and temperature for culture and showed higher values of maximal net photosynthetic rate, apparent quantum yield, light‐saturating and compensating points, and dark respiration. The ratios of chl a content and mass to surface area of a colony increased and that of chl a to mass or mass to volume of a colony decreased with increased colonial sizes. A Ge‐Xian‐Mi colony appeared to increase its chl a content per surface area, enhancing the light‐shading effect; however, at the same time it decreased its mass density on a volume basis, minimizing the enhanced effects of shading and diffusion barrier caused by the thickening outer layer with increasing colony size during growth.  相似文献

The Early Devonian brachiopod genus Borealirhynchia was established by Su, 1976. Phylum Brachiopoda (Cambrian to Devonian). In: Paleontological Atlas of North China, Inner Mongolia Volume 1. Geological Publishing House Beijing, pp. 155-227 (in Chinese). It has not been previously described in detail, nor have transverse serial sections of the internal features of Borealirhynchia delerensis, the type species, been published. In this paper Borealirhynchia, along with a few species previously assigned to it, is analysed and discussed. Detailed transverse serial sections of the internal features of B.? lata Su, 1976, are provided, based on well-preserved specimens collected from the Lower Devonian strata of Dong Ujimqin Qi, northeastern Inner Mongolia. Borealirhynchia? gigantea Su, 1976 and Latonotoechia multicosta Su, 1976 are considered to be synonyms of B.? lata Su with the same external and internal characters present in all three species. Some Lower Devonian strata, in which Borealirhynchia was found and reported, from Dong Ujimqin Qi, northeastern Inner Mongolia, are fully described.  相似文献

The geologic section of the Torrente Scrivia in 061 the vicinity of Rigoroso is generally reported as an conformable sequence in Oligocene and Miocene strata. In fact, it has suffered important reworkingsduring Lower Miocene and this event is not only evident in sedimentology but also in paleontology. Locally, these events reflect tectonic motions more strongly marked in the north-eastern part of the ligurian piemontese basin.Consequently, the result is that the geologicsection concerned could not be satisfactory referring to Lower Miocene.  相似文献

Summary A new section through Cretaceous deposits was discovered 1 km west of the Dizlu village (approximately 40 km north of Esfahan, central Iran). Lithologically, the section distinctly differs from all other sections exposed in neighboring localities. A scleractinian coral fauna (Upper Aptian-Upper Albian), collected from a reefal limestone, is described in detail. The following taxa were found:Actinastrea aff.pseudominima (Koby),Columactinastraea sp.,Eugyra cotteaui (d'Orbigny),Pseudomyriophyllia turnsekae Baron-Szabo,Montlivaltia sp.,Paraclausastrea pulchra Morycowa,Placocoenia robusta Oppenheim,Columnocoenia ksiazkiewiczi Morycowa,Stylina micropora Koby,Felixigyra deangelisi Prever,Cyathophora haysensis Wells,Diploastraea harrisi Wells,Morphastrea cf.ludovicina (Michelin),Meandrophyllia meandroides (Koby),Eocomoseris raueni L?ser,Fungiastrea crespoi (Felix),Latiastraea cf.kaufmanni (Koby),Kobya aff.crassolamellosa Gregory. The coral association of the Esfahan region is dominated by forms that are known to be cosmopolitan and semicosmopolitan in the Lower Cretaceous. It was found that over 40% of the coral fauna had previously been reported from both Lower and Upper Cretaceous strata. A similar pattern has been recognized for other reefal associations (e.g. Albian of Greece and Upper Barremian-Middle Albian of Mexico). In contrast, coral assemblages which developed in rather soft bottom environments have a significantly smaller percentage (15–20%) of taxa extending into the Upper Cretaceous and show closer affinities to Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous faunas.  相似文献
