Understanding how multiple predators affect one another and their shared prey is an increasingly important goal for ecologists
examining predator–prey dynamics and food-web structure. In a field experiment, we examined the outcome of interactions between
terrestrial and freshwater predators foraging for the same prey in two temperate North American streams. We used a factorial
design to examine the combined foraging effects of herons and smallmouth bass on striped shiners and central stonerollers.
We found that there was facilitation between the two predators, resulting in risk-enhancement for the prey species, with particularly
pronounced effects on the smallest (<70 mm) size classes. Facilitation is the least well-documented predator–predator interaction
and has not been quantitatively demonstrated for freshwater and terrestrial predators. Our results indicate that bass may
gain a net benefit from the presence of wading birds such as herons and egrets, and that concerns about the negative effects
of birds on fish stocks through competition may be unwarranted. 相似文献

The relationship between seasonal variation and the effect of several different environmental factors on chromophore composition
was investigated in the eye of the Japanese dace, Tribolodon hakonensis which lives either in rivers or in the sea. Eyes obtained from river and sea populations had both retinal (A1) and 3,4-didehydroretinal
(A2) all through the year but the ratio of these chromophores showed seasonal variation the relative amount of A2 was higher
in winter and lower in summer. Besides seasonal variation, A2 showed marked differences depending on habitat: the highest
proportion of A2 was 67% in January and the lowest 13% in July, in the river population, whereas in the sea population the
highest and the lowest values were only 30 and 6%, respectively, during the same months. The seasonal variation in gonadosomatic
index showed no correlation to variations in A2 proportion, and the maximum difference in water temperature between summer
and winter was ca. 15°C for both habitats. Because spectral conditions at the locations of capture of both river and sea populations
were similar, we conclude that Japanese dace eyes are affected by exogenous factors related to differences between freshwater

随着国际贸易的日益频繁,外来有害植物入侵,严重威胁我国的自然环境和生物多样性。利用从原产地引入食性较专一的天敌来控制外来杂草是杂草生物防治的主要方式之一,有保护环境一劳永逸的效果。简要介绍了国际生物防治概况,统计表明全世界至少有133种目标杂草进行生物防治,主要分布在菊科、仙人掌科和含羞草科,63科369种无脊椎动物和真菌作为杂草生物防治的天敌,利用最多的天敌是鞘翅目象甲科和叶甲科昆虫,其中大多数项目是治理外来杂草的。杂草生物防治最活跃的国家依次为美国、澳大利亚、南非、加拿大和新西兰。重点论述了利用传统生物防治方法防治外来杂草的经典项目、国内外研究概况,以及目前面临的问题和应用前景。我国杂草生物防治起步晚,传统杂草生防的目标杂草有4种,紫茎泽兰、空心莲子草、豚草和水葫芦,其中,空心莲子草的生物防治获得成功。共引进天敌14种,输出天敌23种,与世界上生物防治先进的国家比尚有距离。中国应充分借鉴国际成功经验,对外来杂草开展生物防治。中国的生物多样性在世界上占有十分独特的地位,将在生物多样性保护中发挥重要作用。 相似文献

Direct field measurements of the energetic expenditure on parental care and within-nest reproductive success of individual male smallmouth bass Micropterus dolomieui were determined by measuring the change in total body mass as well as by total body electroconductivity analysis (TOBEC™). With TOBEC, the change in total body lean mass of the same live individual was measured non-destructively at the beginning and end of the parental care period. Lean mass was the primary source of energy utilized during parental care indicating starvation and potential loss of future reproduction. Individual loss in lean mass was related positively to reproductive success suggesting that the energy expended during parental care does affect individual fitness. 相似文献

Samples issued from intensive sampling in the Netherlands (1992–2001) and from extensive sampling carried out in the context
of international campaigns (1998, 2000 and 2001) were revisited. Additional samples from artificial substrates (1992–2003)
and other techniques (various periods) were analysed. The combined data provide a global and dynamic view on the Peracarida
community of the River Meuse, with the focus on the Amphipoda. Among the recent exotic species found, Crangonyx pseudogracilisis regressing, Dikerogammarus haemobaphesis restricted to the Condroz course of the river, Gammarus tigrinusis restricted to the lowlands and seems to regress, Jaera istriis restricted to the ‘tidal’ Meuse, Chelicorophium curvispinumis still migrating upstream into the Lorraine course without any strong impact on the other amphipod species. After a rapid
expansion Dikerogammarus villosushas continued its upstream invasion between 1998 and 2002 at a rate of 30–40 km per year, but no further progression was noticed
in 2003. Locally and temporarily the native species (Gammarus fossarum and G. pulex) and naturalized species (G. roeseliand Echinogammarus berilloni)mayhave been excluded by the most recent invaders (mainly D. villosus), but none of the native and naturalized species has disappeared completely. Therefore, the number of amphipod species found
in the River Meuse has increased. Moreover, the native and naturalized species keep on dominating the tributaries from which
the recent invaders seem to be excluded. A changing Peracarida community structure is observed along the course of the River
Meuse: four native or naturalized species inhabit the upstream (Lorraine) course, three invasive species dominate in the middle
reach (Ardenne-Condroz zone), one exotic species is housed in the Border Meuse and three or four invasive species dominate

Synopsis We provided supplemental food for parental male smallmouth bass,Micropterus dolomieu, to determine if food supply limits the reproductive performance of nesting males as measured by care duration, reproductive success and survival of adult males. Although supplementing the diet of parental males had a positive effect on all three reproductive measures, the experiment generated contrasting results in different years. In the first year, supplemental feeding only improved the survival of fed males versus unfed males. In the second year, supplemental feeding increased care duration and reproductive success of fed males but reduced their survival relative to unfed males. Our supplemental feeding improved current or future measures of reproductive performance, but not both simultaneously. The results appear to demonstrate phenotypic plasticity in the extent to which energy from supplemental feeding can be allocated to present or future reproduction. 相似文献

明确区域尺度上外来入侵植物的潜在分布格局及入侵风险区对入侵种的预防和控制具有重要意义。以国家重点管理外来入侵物种黄花刺茄(Solanum rostratum Dunal)为研究对象,以其扩散蔓延的新疆地区为研究区域,基于生物气候、土壤、地形等60个自然环境因子和人类活动强度因子,应用MaxEnt模型和ArcGIS空间分析技术分别构建了现代气候情景及人类活动干扰下的黄花刺茄适宜生境预测模型,分析探讨了人类活动及自然环境因子对黄花刺茄空间分布的影响。结果表明:人类活动干扰下的训练集和测试集的AUC值均大于无人类活动干扰的AUC值,无人类活动干扰下黄花刺茄在新疆的总适生面积为327784.36 km~2,人类活动干扰下总适生面积为445619.96 km~2;阿勒泰地区北部、塔城中部和南部、博州中部和东部、伊犁州中部、克州西部、五家渠市、阜康市、玛纳斯县、呼图壁县为高危入侵风险区;影响黄花刺茄潜在分布的主导变量为年降雨量、人类活动强度、海拔、下层土沙含量、降雨量的季节性变化和年平均温,黄花刺茄在新疆的扩散与人类活动强度呈正相关;黄花刺茄在新疆的分布未达到饱和且处于逐步扩散态势,呈现以昌吉州和乌鲁木齐市为中心,向天山以北和新疆以西的区域辐射状扩散。 相似文献

The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte(Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is the mostdestructive pest of maize (Zea mays L.)in North America, and began to successfullyinvade Central Europe in the early 1990's. Thispaper reports a three-year field surveyconducted in Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Croatia,which are currently the focal points ofinvasion, with the aim to determine theoccurrence of indigenous natural enemies ofD. v. virgifera in Europe. A total of9,900 eggs, 550 larvae, 70 pupae and 33,000adults were examined for the occurrence ofparasitoids, nematodes, and fungal pathogens. It can be concluded from the survey resultsthat effective indigenous natural enemies arenot attacking any of the life stages of D.v. virgifera in Europe. The exception is theoccurrence of the fungi Beauveriabassiana (Bals.) Vuill. (Mitosporic fungi;formerly Deuteromyces) and Metarhiziumanisopliae (Metsch.) Sorok (Mitosporic fungi)attacking adults of D. v. virgifera at anextremely low level (< 1%). However no otherentomopathogenic fungal pathogens,entomopathogenic nematodes, or parasitoids werefound on eggs, larvae, pupae or adults. Whileseveral natural enemies in North and CentralAmerica are known to attack D. v.virgifera, it is apparent that indigenousnatural enemies in Europe have not adapted tothe high population density of the alieninvasive species D. v. virgifera. Classical biological control may provide anopportunity to reconstruct the natural enemycomplex of an invading alien pest, and itsapplication to manage D. v. virgiferapopulations in Europe should be considered. 相似文献

Over the past decade, four exotic tunicates (Styela clava, Ciona intestinalis, Botrylloides violaceus and Botryllus schlosseri) have been reported in the Brudenell estuary in Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. Styela clava was the first exotic tunicate to arrive in 1997, rapidly establishing, spreading, invading, and eventually becoming a nuisance
in several estuaries of PEI. In the Brudenell estuary, S. clava remained the only exotic nuisance tunicate until 2003. In the fall of 2004, the vase tunicate C. intestinalis, was reported in low abundance, followed by the two colonial species, B. schlosseri and B. violaceus, reported in the spring of 2005. The abundance of C. intestinalis rapidly increased post-introduction, eventually replacing S. clava as the foremost nuisance species on mussel farms in the estuary. To date, C. intestinalis continues to colonize this estuary at epidemic proportions, resulting in the continuing drop of S. clava abundance. The current abundance of C. intestinalis is estimated at 5 cm−2, which is similar to S. clava abundance at its height in 2003. The 2006 abundance of S. clava is estimated to have fallen to near 0 cm−2. The dominance of C. intestinalis as a fouling organism on mussel farms is considered a serious threat to this aquaculture industry, mainly due to its unmanageable

In weed biological control, insect damage to target weeds can be simulated in invaded habitats to study potential responses of the plant to introduced natural enemies. In the present study, we investigated the impact of two levels of manual flower-shoot damage (shoots cut at tip or base) on Alliaria petiolata (garlic mustard) survival, size, and reproduction. Experiments were conducted in 2002 and 2003 using invasive field populations of A. petiolata under naturally varying plant densities. Plant survival was recorded, and size and reproduction parameters were measured. Manual flower-shoot damage had a significant effect on plant survival. In both years, fewer plants survived in the basal-cut treatment than in either the control (un-cut) or tip-cut treatment. Plant size and reproductive output were likewise reduced in the basal-cut treatment. In both years, total seed production was significantly lower in the basal-cut treatment than either the control or tip-cut treatment. When combined, increased mortality and reduced seed production of basal-cut plants greatly reduced the contribution these plants made to the seed bank. Plant density did not affect reproduction or plant size. The impacts of cutting were consistent across years and sites with distinct biotic and abiotic conditions, and A. petiolata densities. We anticipate that herbivore damage to A. petiolata populations by introduced biological control agents will likewise remain consistent under varying biotic and abiotic conditions if the agents are equally adapted to these. 相似文献

A study on the dispersal of the exotic larval endoparasitoid, Cotesia flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), was conducted in a maize field in the northern Kilifi District in the coastal area of Kenya. Because C. flavipes did not previously occur in the release area, it was possible to use a unique indirect method to estimate dispersal by examining the distribution of parasitised hosts. Parasitoids released in the centre of the field moved as far as 64 meters during their life span, and dispersal was dependent on wind direction. The level of parasitism was influenced by the location of hosts in plants. The majority of parasitised stemborers (88.4%) were found inside the plant (stems and tassel stems), where 74.3% of the suitable hosts were found, which indicates that female parasitoids were not searching randomly for hosts. Aggregation of parasitoids in response to plants with different host densities was not detected. Implications of the release of C. flavipes on stemborers population in the agroecosystem of East Africa are discussed. 相似文献

[目的] 检测自德国进境云杉原木夹杂的水青冈植物叶片上是否携带栎树猝死病菌。[方法] 采用磁珠法提取水青冈植物叶片DNA,根据巢式PCR方法和DNA序列测定分析方法,进行栎树猝死病菌的检测。[结果] 采用巢式PCR方法,能够扩增出约280 bp的特异性条带;DNA序列测定表明,该DNA序列与GenBank中多个栎树猝死病菌分离物DNA序列相似性达99%,位于同一个发育分支。[结论] 样品中检出栎树猝死病菌,这是我国口岸首次从进境德国云杉原木中截获栎树猝死病菌。 相似文献

In West Africa, Uscana lariophaga Steffan (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) and Dinarmus basalis (Rondani) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) parasitize the eggs and larvae, respectively, of Callosobruchus maculatus Fab. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae), an important pest of stored cowpea. The impact of the parasitoids on pest populations was evaluated in clay pots similar to the ones used in traditional storage in Niger. At the beginning of the storage period, cowpeas were infested with one density of C. maculatus and with either one or both of the parasitoid species. If the parasitoids we inoculated as single species in stores, both D. basalis and U. lariophaga significantly suppressed the bruchid population, but the former did so more effectively than the latter. A combination of D. basalis and U. lariophaga resulted in the same suppression of bruchid populations as when D. basalis was the only parasitoid. Fifteen weeks after storage, the parasitoids reduced the number of grains damaged significantly by 38–56%. The effect of inoculating single or multiple parasitoid species on C. maculatus populations in an augmentation strategy is discussed. 相似文献

In a damage trial in pots, Lixus aemulus, a stem-boring weevil imported from Brazil, caused 66.6% mortality of the stems and reduced the dry mass of infested Chromolaena odorata stems by 46.6%. There was a 94.4% reduction in the number of achenes produced on the infested branches. These results indicate that L. aemulus has potential to have impact as a biological control agent of C. odorata. 相似文献

After its accidental introduction in the French waters of the Mediterranean, the green seaweed Caulerpa taxifolia is now spreading along the coast of the Alpes-Maritimes, invading various biotopes (rock, sand and Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds). During the spring and fall of 1992, we evaluated the impact of C. taxifolia on the infralittoral ichthyofauna of Cap Martin (Menton) and compared invaded and reference sites, in shallow (3–8 m) and deep (11–25 m) stations.
Caulerpa taxifolia apparently does not have any effect on the composition and global species richness of the ichthyofauna. Therefore, no exclusion phenomenon has been observed and fish behavior has remained normal (feeding habits, reproduction, recruitment). However, fish density and biomass are slightly lower in the colonized sites. Negative regression was observed, in shallow sites during the spring season, between the percentage of substrate invaded by C. taxifolia and the average density of fish assemblages (slope= –0.13, r=0.26, p<0.01). Despite these observations, C. taxifolia meadows seem to be a favorable environment for the recruitment of some species of Labridae (Coris julis, Symphodus ocellatus), Sparidae (Diplodus annularis) and Serranidae (Serranus cabrilla) in the fall.The relative importance of C. taxifolia as environmental parameter and of other habitat characteristics (structural complexity, substrate slope, hydrodynamism, depth, fishing pressure) is discussed to explain these differences. The results of this first study indicate that there exists no simple relation between the presence of C. taxifolia and fish assemblages. 相似文献

The effects of the invasion ofan exotic predator, Harmonia axyridis(Pallas) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), wereinvestigated using three experiments on theecology of aphid predators on apple. Oneexperiment, 1992, was collected prior to theH. axyridis invasion, and two others,1996 to 1997 and 1999 to 2000, were collectedafter the invasion. Except for one year, 1999,H. axyridis was the dominant coccinellid,replacing the formerly dominant Coccinellaseptempunctata L. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae),another exotic species. The dominance of H. axyridis was greater among larvae thanamong adults. There was no apparent effect ofthe H. axyridis invasion on abundance ofthe predator, Aphidoletes aphidimyza(Rondani) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) and apossible positive effect on the abundance ofchrysopids (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae). Principal component analysis indicated thatalthough individual species were affected, theoverall effect of H. axyridis invasion onthe predator guild as a whole was negligible. The data indicate that the interaction betweenthe two exotic species, H. axyridis andC. septempunctata, may be allowing nativecoccinellids to become more abundant on applethan when C. septempunctata was thedominant coccinellid. 相似文献

2017年8月,在新疆维吾尔自治区伊犁哈萨克自治州露地鲜食番茄上发现一种鳞翅目害虫,以幼虫潜食叶肉、蛀食果实,经鉴定为南美番茄潜叶蛾。该害虫原产南美洲的秘鲁,2006年入侵欧洲的西班牙,截至2017年5月,已在南美洲、欧洲、非洲、中美洲和亚洲的80多个国家和地区发生,严重危害鲜食番茄、加工番茄和樱桃番茄/圣女果,产量损失最高可达80%~100%。本文提供了南美番茄潜叶蛾的危害情况及主要形态鉴定特征,提出了防范其进一步扩散危害的措施建议以及今后应开展的主要研究方向,包括植物检疫、发生分布调查、生物学生态学特性研究、天敌资源挖掘利用等,以为积极应对南美番茄潜叶蛾对我国农业生产安全的威胁提供参考。 相似文献

The soybean aphid, Aphis glycines Matsumura is a new invasive pest of soybean in North America. We studied the ability of the existing predator community in soybean to reduce A. glycines establishment in field studies using either predator exclusion, open, or leaky cages that allowed aphid emigration but limited predation. Cages were infested with uniform initial densities of A. glycines adults and subsequent populations of aphids and predators were monitored over 24 h. The most abundant predators in these trials included the carabid beetles Elaphropus anceps (Le Conte), Clavina impressefrons Le Conte, Bembidion quadrimaculatum Say and spiders (Salticidae and Lycosidae). Foliar predators were less abundant and included; Harmonia axyridis Pallas, Coccinella septempunctata (L.), and Orius insidious (Say). Over the 2-year study, we found statistically significant predation on adult A. glycines in one out of six trials at 15 h and two out of six trials at 24 h. There was never significant evidence for predation of nymphs in any trial, however overall survival (adults + nymphs) was significantly reduced in one out of six trials at 15 h and three out of six trials at 24 h. Based on these results we suggest that generalist predators can be a significant but variable factor influencing the establishment of A. glycines populations in soybean. The impact of existing predator communities should be further investigated as a means of managing A.␣glycines populations in North American soybean production systems. 相似文献
