Hybrid populations selectively filter gene introgression between species   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
Hybrids have long been recognized as a potential pathway for gene flow between species that can have important consequences for evolution and conservation biology. However, few studies have demonstrated that genes from one species can introgress or invade another species over a broad geographic area. Using 35 genetically mapped restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers of two species of cottonwoods (Populus fremontii x P. angustifolia) and their hybrids (n = 550 trees), we showed that the majority of the genome is prohibited from introgressing from one species into the other. However, this barrier was not absolute; Fremont cpDNA and mtDNA were found throughout the geographic range of narrowleaf cottonwood, and 20% of the nuclear markers of Fremont cottonwood introgressed varying distances (some over 100 km) into the recipient species' range. Rates of nuclear introgression were variable, but two nuclear markers introgressed as fast as the haploid, cytoplasmically inherited chloroplast and mitochondrial markers. Our genome-wide analysis provides evidence for positive, negative, and neutral effects of introgression. For example, we predict that DNA fragments that introgress through several generations of backcrossing will be small, because small fragments are less likely to contain deleterious genes. These results argue that recombination will be important, that introgression can be very selective, and that evolutionary forces within the hybrid population to effectively "filter" gene flow between species. A strong filter may make introgression adaptive, prevent genetic assimilation, lead to relaxed isolating mechanisms, and contribute to the stability of hybrid zones. Thus, rather than hybridization being a negative factor as is commonly argued, natural hybridization between native species may provide important genetic variation that impacts both ecological and evolutionary processes. Finally, we propose two hypotheses that contrast the likelihood of contemporary versus ancient introgression in this system.  相似文献

Data from chromosomal in situ hybridization and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) obtained from the same individuals of two subspecies of the Australian grasshopper Caledia captiva, suggest the occurrence of biased exchange of DNA sequences in hybrid individuals. Thus, there are a disproportionate number of Torresian individuals that possess Moreton ribosomal RNA gene sequences. This bias correlates with the previously described pattern of asymmetrical introgression of Moreton rDNA into Torresian populations. The present findings demonstrate the potential effect of biased gene conversion on the frequencies of introduced gene variants.  相似文献

The unusually high diversity of spined loache biotypes in Lower Danube was detected by means of biochemical genetic investigation and cytometric analysis of 358 specimens collected in riverbed and eriks. Along with two diploid species (C. elongatoides and C. "tanaitica") six hybrid forms were revealed: diploid C. elongatoides "tanaitica"; triploid C. 2 elongatoides--"tanaitica", C. elongatoides--2 "tanaitica" and C. 2 elongatoides--species-1 and tetraploid C. 3 elongatoides--"tanaitica", C. elongatoides--species-2--2 "tanaitica". Besides that the specimens with recombinant genotypes occured. In spite of the apomictic mode of reproduction the poliploids do not possess the clonal structure but according to the level of polymorphism and the genotype distribution are isomorphous to the parental diploid species. This means that on the contrary to the polyploid cobitids of the Dnieper which have appeared in this catchment area due to the expansion of their home range the polyploid fishes from the Lower Danube reaches are autochtonous and are produced as a result of hybridization with the local diploid species. The process is seemingly going on without any kind of limitations.  相似文献

The distribution of species is limited by their ability to adapt to local environments. For adaptation by selection, genetic variability is crucial. As founder effects reduce genetic variability, extension of species' range borders is usually slow due to the reduced probability of successful colonization. However, the range limit might be extended by incorporating locally adapted genes. In western Palaearctic waterfrogs, interspecies hybrids show hemiclonal gametogenesis, are fertile and reproductively mimic one parental species. Genetic analysis, using allozyme loci, shows that they mediate gene exchange between the two parental species. Selection analysis provides evidence for local adaptation of single locus genotypes. This suggests that hybridogenesis presents a process which increases the number of neoform parental genotypes, exposing these to selection, and thereby revealing locally adapted genotypes which are essential for species range expansion.  相似文献

Abstract

Both symmetric and asymmetric somatic hybrids have been obtained from the combination of wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium) and bread wheat (Triticum aestivum). Two wheat protoplast populations, one derived from embryogenic calli and the other from a non-regenerable, rapidly dividing cell line, were fused with Th. intermedium protoplasts which had been (or not been) pre-irradiated with UV. Among the 124 regenerated calli, 64 could be categorized as being of hybrid origin on the basis of plant morphology, peroxidase isozyme, RAPD DNA profiling and karyological analysis. Numerous green plantlets were regenerated from 13 calli recovered from either the symmetric hybrid (no UV pre-treatment) or the asymmetric one (30 s UV irradiation). One of these hybrid plants proved to be vigorous and self-fertile. The regenerants were all closer in phenotype to wheat than to Th. intermedium. Genomic in situ hybridization analysis showed that the chromosomes in the hybrids were largely intact wheat ones, although a few Th. intermedium chromosome fragments had been incorporated within them.  相似文献

Circadian rhythms and rest homeostasis are independent processes, each regulating important components of rest-activity patterns. Evolutionarily, the two are distinct from one another; total rest time is maintained unaffected even when circadian pacemaker cells are ablated. Throughout the animal kingdom, there exists a huge variation in rest-activity patterns, yet it is unclear how these behaviors have evolved. Here we show that four species of balitorid cavefish have greatly reduced rest times in comparison to rest times of their surface relatives. All four cave species retained biological rhythmicity, and in three of the four there is a pronounced 24-hour rhythm; in the fourth there is an altered rhythmicity of 38-40 hours. Thus, consistent changes in total rest have evolved in these species independent of circadian rhythmicity. Taken together, our data suggest that consistent reduction in total rest times were accomplished evolutionarily through alterations in rest homeostasis.  相似文献

For sequence analysis of the 12S rRNA gene in spined loaches, specimens of the following taxa were used: Sabanejewia balcanica, Cobitis paludica, C. bilineata, C. fahireae, C. elazigensis, C. elongata , two different sub-populations of C. taenia and four different sub-populations of C. turcica . Phylogenetic relationships among taxa were estimated using parsimony, neighbor-joining, and maximum likelihood algorithms. The calculation of the transition-tranversion ratio indicated that the taxa analysed were rather distantly related. Our analyses using the genus Sabanejewia as an outgroup suggest that C. bilineata is separated from the subgenus Cobitis sensu stricto and placed together with C. elongata as basal to all other species of the genus Cobitis . Support for the placement of C. paludica as basal to both the subgenera Bicanestrinia and Cobitis s. s. (without C. bilineata ) is given by outcomes from three independent methods of phylogenetic reconstruction. A sister-taxon relationship for the subgenera Bicanestrinia and Cobitis s. s. without C. bilineata was consistently found. C. elazigensis was closely related to the population of C. turcica from Lake Beysehir in Turkey. Both formed a sister-group to the remaining populations of C. turcica , while C. fahireae was basal to C. taenia . A molecular clock was calculated based on sequence divergence values and palaeogeographical data. This suggests that different historical colonization routes must have been used by different clades of spined loaches.  相似文献

The composition of the genome after introgression of a marker gene from a donor to a recipient breed was studied using analytical and simulation methods. Theoretical predictions of proportional genomic contributions, including donor linkage drag, from ancestors used at each generation of crossing after an introgression programme agreed closely with simulated results. The obligate drag, the donor genome surrounding the target locus that cannot be removed by subsequent selection, was also studied. It was shown that the number of backcross generations and the length of the chromosome affected proportional genomic contributions to the carrier chromosomes. Population structure had no significant effect on ancestral contributions and linkage drag but it did have an effect on the obligate drag whereby larger offspring groups resulted in smaller obligate drag. The implications for an introgression programme of the number of backcross generations, the population structure and the carrier chromosome length are discussed. The equations derived describing contributions to the genome from individuals from a given generation provide a framework to predict the genomic composition of a population after the introgression of a favourable donor allele. These ancestral contributions can be assigned a value and therefore allow the prediction of genetic lag.  相似文献

Ten restriction endonucleases were used to investigate the mitochondrial DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (mtDNA RFLP) of 11 native cattle breeds and one cultivated cattle breed in South China. Twenty-three restriction morphs were detected, which can be sorted into five haplotypes. A phylogenetic tree of the haplotypes was constructed by using the 'upgMa' method. Our study showed that haplotype I and II are identical to the zebu (Bos indicus) and taurine (Bos taurus) haplotypes, respectively. Zebu and taurine were the two major origins of cattle populations in South China, and the zebu probably had more influence on the native cattle population than taurine did. Haplotype III is identical to haplotype I of yak (Bos grunniens), which was only detected in the Diqing cattle breed. Haplotype IV was detected for the first time. This haplotype, found only in Dehong cattle, might be from an independent domestication event, probably from another Bos indicus population. Divergence of haplotypes I and IV occurred about 268,000-535,000 years ago, much earlier than the 10,000-year history of cattle husbandry. Our results also suggest a secondary introgession of mtDNA from yak to Diqing cattle.  相似文献

Sixteen of 28 possible biotypes of C. elongatoides-taenia s.lato (C. taenia, C. tanaitica, C. species-1) have been found in Ukrainian waters. Presumably, the biotypes of C. aff. melanoleuca-tanaitica has also been identified. The share of polyploids among Cobitis on average was 65%, where males made up less than 1% with the same ratio among tri- and tetra-polyploids. The absence of amphydiploidy and presence of individuals with recombinant genotype and abnormal electrophoretic specters, whose frequency sometimes is considerable, are attracting increasing interest. There are two centers of polyploid biotypes creation: southern (the Lower Danube) and northern (the Upper Danube, Oder, and Rhine). The C. taenia and C. species-1 type, which is typical for the northwestern basins of Ukraine, participates in the formation of polyploids in the Rhine alongside with C. elongatoides and C. tanaitica. It is determined that biotypes (C. 2(3) elongatoidestanaitica, C. elongatoides-2(3) tanaitica) in comparison with biotypes whose genome includes the chromosome set of C. taenia are limited in distribution towards the East. This is due to the hybridization of females from these biotypes with males of C. taenia afflicted by genetic instability and reduced viability of posterity.  相似文献

鱼类的性别分化易受发育环境的影响。向性成熟的泥鳅和大鳞副泥鳅个体注射绒毛膜促性腺激素,获得卵子和精子进行人工授精。把胚胎分别置于20℃、25℃和30℃条件下,使其发育。经性腺检查发现随着温度的升高两种泥鳅中雄性个体所占的比例明显升高,获得明显的偏雄比率群体。根据已知细胞色素P450芳香化酶CYP19 b基因序列设计嵌套简并引物用巢式PCR扩增并克隆出了两种泥鳅的CYP19 b的DNA片段。MaCYP19 b片段和Pd-CYP19 b片段分别长1337bp和1473bp。在此基础上用各自的特异引物克隆出两种泥鳅CYP19 b的相应cDNA片段。通过基因组DNA和cDNA序列的比较证明两种泥鳅的CYP19 b基因均包含三个内含子和四个外显子,编码的蛋白质序列长145氨基酸残基。以GAPDH基因为对照,分别对两种泥鳅成体组织和不同发育阶段的胚胎的CYP19 b进行了半定量RT-PCR表达分析,结果表明泥鳅CYP19 b基因只在成体泥鳅卵巢、肾以及原肠胚和神经胚中表达。大鳞副泥鳅CYP19 b基因在成体的脑、卵巢和肾以及神经胚和卵黄吸收期表达。这些结果为揭示细胞色素P450芳香化酶基因与环境性别决定机制的关系奠定了基础。    相似文献

Until recently, one widespread species of the genus Cobitis was thought to be present in Europe, the common spined loach Cobitis taenia . Recent studies have shown that the diversity of spined loaches is considerably higher due to (1) presence of several species as well as C. taenia and (2) presence of hybrid biotypes, living together with species. Here knowledge about distribution and diversity of spined loaches in Europe is summarized by combining original with published data. In Southern Europe, a number of distinct species occur allopatrically, while in Central and Eastern Europe a few species have wide distribution areas. Hybrid biotypes were found exclusively in Central and Eastern Europe. They were not restricted to the contact areas between the parental species, but occur in almost the entire area. In total, 15 hybrid biotypes with different genomic compositions were recorded. In the most diverse complex, four hybrid biotypes were associated with one species. In general, a syntopic occurrence of different species of Cobitis can be considered as exceptional, while the association of species with hybrid biotypes is the rule in Central and Eastern Europe. The composition of complexes seems to be most strongly influenced by the kind of associated species and by local history. Implications for conservation are (1) not to disturb the natural patterns of diversity, (2) to consider the known richness in legislation, and (3) to consider the evolutionary significance of hybrid biotypes.  相似文献

Botia macracantha and B. modesta have been demonstrated to be tetraploid species on the basis of their karyotypes and on the basis of the expression of a number of isozymes encoded by duplicate loci. A rather low percentage of duplicate loci was detected by electrophoresis, compared to that for other tetraploid Cypriniformes. Several hypotheses have been advanced to account for the low levels of duplicate gene expression observed. Lastly, many of the duplicate loci have diverged to unique patterns of expressions in different tissues or different levels of activity within a single tissue.  相似文献
