Antimutagenicity profiles for some model compounds   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The concept of activity profile listings and plots, already applied successfully to the display of mutagenicity data, has been modified for application to antimutagenicity data. The activity profiles are bar graphs that have been organized in two general ways: for antimutagens that have been tested in combination with a given mutagen and for mutagens that have been tested in combination with a given antimutagen. Doses from both the mutagen and the antimutagen are displayed and plotted together with results on enhancement or inhibition of mutagenic activity. The short-term tests that have been used extensively to identify mutagens and potential carcinogens are increasingly being used to identify antimutagens and potential anticarcinogens. Three model mutagens, N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, aflatoxin B1 and benzo[a]pyrene, and 4 model antimutagens, butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, glutathione and disulfiram, were selected from the data surveyed in the published literature. It is not clear at the present time whether the inhibition of carcinogen-induced mutation is a good indicator of anticarcinogenic properties, and further research is needed. Nevertheless, the activity profiles are useful for the assessment of the available antimutagenesis data by providing rapid visualization of considerable dose information and experimental results.  相似文献

The antimutagenicity and fermentation pattern of three Bifidobacterium longum strains (B. longum, B. longum PS+, and B. longum PS-) in skim milk were studied. The increase in fermentation time significantly increased antimutagenicity with all strains tested against the mutagenicity of both 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido-[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-1) and 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-2) in an Ames-like test using streptomycin-dependent strain SD510 of Salmonella typhimurium TA98. Bifidobacterium longum PS+, a polysaccharide-producing strain, had a longer lag phase but showed the highest inhibition percentage against both mutagens tested. The viability of B. longum PS+ cells was not affected by the low pH of 4.1, probably owing to the protection offered by the polysaccharide produced. The antimutagenicity of the fermented milk against Trp-P-1 was dose dependent. The strains were also able to bind with different amino acid pyrolysates, and B. longum showed the highest binding. Acetone extracts of fermented skim milk dissolved in water showed less antimutagenicity than extracts dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide. The isolated crude polysaccharide from B. longum PS+ showed a dose-dependent inhibition of the mutagenicity of Trp-P-1. Thus, we conclude that the polysaccharide of B. longum PS+ can be used as an antimutagen.  相似文献

Two antimutagenicity databases were prepared by applying a co-treatment procedure to the Salmonella reversion assay. Ninety compounds belonging to various chemical classes were quantitatively tested for antimutagenicity towards the direct-acting mutagen 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) in strain TA100 of S. typhimurium and 63 of them were additionally tested for antimutagenicity towards unfractionated mainstream cigarette smoke (CS) in strain TA98, in the presence of S9 mix. Twelve compounds (13.3%) inhibited 4NQO mutagenicity by at least 50%, with a MID50 (dose inhibiting 50% of mutagenicity) varying over a 1226-fold range. Twenty-six compounds (41.3%) inhibited CS mutagenicity, with a MID50 varying over a 520-fold range. Three compounds only, i.e., bilirubin, curcumin and myricetin, were capable of inhibiting the mutagenicities of both 4NQO and CS. However, myricetin and the other flavonoid rutin were at the same time mutagenic by inducing frameshift mutations following metabolic activation. There was a rather rigorous selectivity of antimutagenicity data depending on the chemical class of inhibitors and it was possible to discriminate protective effects within several pairs or series of structurally related compounds. For instance, all eight thiols and aminothiols inhibited 4NQO mutagenicity, which contrasted with the inactivity of the remaining 17 sulfur compounds tested, all of them lacking a free sulfhydryl group. The mutagenicity of CS was consistently inhibited by the majority of phenols (eight out of 10 tested) and by all two isothiocyanates, two dithiocarbamates, three indole derivatives, three tetrapyrrole compounds and three flavonoids tested. Although the results obtained cannot be extrapolated to other mutagens or test systems, they may provide a useful source of information for research in the area of antimutagenesis and for the development of chemopreventive agents.  相似文献

The work presents the data on the antimutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol on the frequency of N-nitroso-N-methyl urea induced gene mutations in Salmonella in vitro and in vivo. In vitro tests have revealed the dependence of decreasing the rate of induced mutations both on combination of treatments with mutagen/antimutagen and on the dose of the mutagen. In vivo tests have demonstrated that the mutagenic effect of alpha-tocopherol depends on the duration of its action on organisms.  相似文献

2-Amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ) is a potent bacterial mutagen formed during cooking of beef. IQ was administered intravenously to Sprague-Dawley rats at concentrations ranging from 7.5-50 mg/kg body weight. Urine was collected and analyzed for mutagenicity. Urinary mutagens were found which required activation by S9 mix, and reverted Ames test strains TA98 and TA100, but not TA1535 or TA1537. The amount of urinary mutagen(s) were related to IQ dose administered and were excreted within 48 h. Additional mutagenic activity was not released after incubation with beta-glucuronidase or aryl sulfatase. Analysis of urinary mutagens by HPLC indicates that the majority of mutagenic activity is due to unchanged IQ, but a small peak of mutagenic activity may correspond to N-acetyl or 3-N-demethylated metabolite. Since only 1% of the administered mutagenic activity is recovered in the urine, IQ may be readily detoxified in vivo.  相似文献

A reversed-phase gradient high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure, which utilizes gradient elution and detection by a photodiode-array detector, has been developed to analyze simultaneously very polar retinoids, such as 4-oxo-retinoyl-β-glucuronide, retinoyl β-glucuronide and 4-oxo-retinoic acid; polar retinoids, such as retinoic acid and retinol; nonpolar retinoids, such as retinyl esters; along with xanthophylls, monohydroxy carotenoids, hydrocarbon carotenoids, and tocopherols. The procedure has been applied to the simultaneous analysis of retinoids, carotenoids, and tocopherols present in human serum and liver, rat serum and tissues, and for carotenoids in a number of fruits and vegetables. Bilirubin present in human serum can also be simultaneously analyzed. By this gradient HPLC procedure, 3,4-didehydroretinyl ester (vitamin A2 ester) has been identified as a minor constituent in a human liver sample. Lycopene was identified as a major carotenoid in one specimen of papaya fruit, and 5,6,5′,6′-diepoxy-β-carotene was characterized as a major carotenoid in one specimen of mango fruit.  相似文献

The multistage induction theory is generally regarded as the mechanism of carcinogenesis. In order to prevent the initiation stage of carcinogenesis, it is meaningful to discover the functional components of edible plants. The objective of this research was to test the antimutagenicity of the functional components of several typical traditional herbs used in Japan. The traditional herbs, gennoshoko (Geranium nepalense var. thunbergii), yomogi (Artemisia vulgaris var. indica), senburi (Swertia japonica), iwa-tobacco (Conandron ramondioides), sarunokoshikake (Elfvingia applanata), kanzo (Glycyeehiza uralensis Fisch) and matatabi (Actinidia polygama) were examined by Ames mutagenesis assay test with Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 against mutagens, Trp-P-1, Trp-P-2 and B(a)P. The water-soluble components or volatile oil of the herbs were extracted in boiling water. The extracts of gennoshoko showed strong antimutagenicity against B(a)P with S. typhimurium TA98 and TA100, as well as Trp-P-1 and Trp-P-2 with S. typhimurium TA98. Yomogi, senburi and iwa-tobacco were also proved to have good antimutagenicity against Trp-P-1 and Trp-P-2 with S. typhimurium TA98, but weaker antimutagenicity against B(a)P. Other herbs did not show any obvious antimutagenicity against these mutagens. In addition, the volatile oil of yomogi also had remarkable antimutagenic effect against the mutagens we used with S. typhimurium TA98.  相似文献

Curcumin (C) and its natural analogues demethoxycurcumin (dmC) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (bdmC), known for their potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic effects, were tested for their possible inhibitory effects against seven cooked food mutagens (heterocyclic amines): 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (MeIQ), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-1), 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-2), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP) and 2-amino-6-methyldipyrido[1,2-a:3',2'-d]imidazole (Glu-P-1), in both TA98 and TA100 strains of Salmonella typhimurium using Ames Salmonella/reversion assay in the presence of Aroclor induced rat liver S9 homogenate. In the present investigations, curcumin as well as its two natural analogues i.e., dmC and bdmC were found to be highly effective in suppressing genotoxicity of all the tested cooked food mutagens in a dose-dependent manner, in both the frame shift (TA98) as well as base pair mutation sensitive (TA100) strains of S. typhimurium. However, bdmC appeared to be a relatively less active antimutagen compared to C and dmC. More than 80% inhibition of mutagenicity was observed at 200 microg/plate in case of C and dmC in both TA98 and TA100 against all tested cooked food mutagens. Where as, bdmC showed 39-79% inhibition in TA100 and 60-80% inhibition in TA98, at a dose of 200 microg/plate. These findings warrant further biochemical, enzymatic and in vivo investigations in animal models as well as in humans to establish the chemoprotective effect of these agents against mutagenic heterocyclic amines found in cooked food.  相似文献

The antimutagenic properties of South African herbal teas were investigated using the Salmonella typhimurium mutagenicity assay. Aqueous extracts of fermented and unfermented rooibos tea (Aspalathus linearis) and honeybush tea (Cyclopia intermedia) both possess antimutagenic activity against 2-acetylaminofluorene (2-AAF) and aflatoxin B(1) (AFB(1))-induced mutagenesis using tester strains TA98 and TA100 in the presence of metabolic activation. A far less inhibitory effect was noticed against the direct acting mutagens, methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), cumolhydroperoxide (CHP), and hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) using TA102, a strain designed to detect oxidative mutagens and carcinogens. Depending on the mutagen used, the unfermented tea exhibited the highest protective effect. A similar response regarding the protection against mutagenesis was obtained when utilising different variations of the double layer Salmonella assay. The double layer technique proved to be more effective to detect the protective effect of the different tea preparations against the direct acting mutagens. With respect to indirect mutagens, the highest protection was noticed when the carcinogen was metabolically activated in the presence of the tea extract as compared with when the tea extract was incubated in a separate layer with the bacteria. The current data suggest that two mechanisms seem to be involved in the antimutagenicity of the tea extracts towards carcinogens that require metabolic activation: (i) the tea components may interfere with cytochrome P450-mediated metabolism of these mutagens and (ii) the direct interaction between the tea constituents, presumably the polyphenolic compounds, with the promutagens and/or the active mutagenic metabolites. However, the mild and/or lack of protection and in some cases even enhancement of mutagenesis induced by direct acting or oxidative mutagens, provide new perspectives regarding the role of the polyphenolic compounds known to exhibit antioxidant properties, in the protection against mutagenesis in the Salmonella assay. The present study provides the first evidence on the antimutagenic activity of honeybush tea and further evidence on the antimutagenicity of rooibos tea.  相似文献

Developmental changes in hepatic activation of dietary mutagens by mice   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Metabolic activation of the food mutagens 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (MeIQ), 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-2) and aflatoxin B1 by female BALB/c mice of different ages (2-24 weeks) was investigated in vivo and in vitro using Salmonella typhimurium TA98 as the indicator organism. The in vivo activation of the three mutagens was investigated in 4- and 24-week-old mice using an intrasanguineous host-mediated assay. All three compounds showed reduced levels of activation with the older hosts. Hepatic S9 fractions from female mice of varying ages between 2 and 24 weeks were used in the in vitro mutagenicity assay. To achieve optimal activation to bacterial mutagens, 5% S9 was required for aflatoxin B1 and Trp-P-2 and 10% S9 for MeIQ; age of donor generally had little effect on the profile of these protein activation curves. Under these optimal conditions MeIQ and Trp-P-2 both exhibited, as before, age-dependent decreases in activation over a wide range of mutagen concentrations, however the in vitro activation of aflatoxin showed no consistent change with age. Spectrophotometric measurements of S9 cytochrome P-450 content showed a decrease in concentration with increasing age, but this was not sufficient to account for changes observed in hepatic mutagen activation. However, changes in the activities of certain cytochrome P-450 isoenzymes and cytosolic GSH-transferases, which in turn result in changes in the activation and detoxification capacity of the liver, would appear to explain age-dependent changes in the activity of mutagens in vivo.  相似文献

In this study the role of antioxidant enzymes on the antimutagenic actions of riboflavin and reduced glutathione against mutagenic potentials of 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide and mitomycin C have been investigated. For this purpose the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase enzymes have been determined in Salmonella typhimurium TA102 and TA100 strains preincubated with different combinations of 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide, mitomycin C, riboflavin and reduced glutathione for thirty minutes. Also in part of the same samples, the mutagenicity has been determined for each combination of chemicals by using Salmonella preincubation test. The correlation between the levels of antioxidant enzymes and mutagenicity and antimutagenicity has been investigated. While riboflavin displayed a weakly antimutagenic effect on 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide mutagenicity in TA102 and TA100 (0.25, 0.35 inhibition respectively), it did not have any effect on the strong mutagenicity of mitomycin C in both strains. Reduced glutathione, a well known antioxidant, had no antimutagenic effect against the mutagenicity of both compounds in TA102 and TA100 strains. The antioxidant enzymes, catalase and superoxide dismutase, seemed to have no direct effect on the antimutagenic action of riboflavin and mutagenic action of 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide and mitomycin C because no change in the activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase was detected in relation to antimutagenicity of riboflavin and mutagenicity of 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide and mitomycin C in both strains. It should be noted that many antimutagens have more than one mechanism of action and their effect depends on the mutagens being tested.  相似文献

alpha-Bisabolol (BISA) is a sesquiterpene alcohol found in the oils of chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) and other plants. BISA has been widely used in dermatological and cosmetic formulations. This study was undertaken to investigate the mutagenicity and antimutagenicity of BISA in the Salmonella/microsome assay. Mutagenicity of BISA was evaluated with TA100, TA98, TA97a and TA1535 Salmonella typhimurium strains, without and with addition of S9 mixture. No increase in the number of his+ revertant colonies over the negative (solvent) control values was observed with any of the four tester strains. In the antimutagenicity assays, BISA was tested up to the highest nontoxic dose (i.e. 50 and 150 microg/plate, with and without S9 mix, respectively) against direct-acting (sodium azide, SA; 4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide, 4-NQNO; 2-nitrofluorene, 2-NF; and nitro-o-phenylenediamine, NPD) as well as indirect-acting (cyclophosphamide, CP; benzo[a]pyrene, B[a]P; aflatoxin B1, AFB1; 2-aminoanthracene, 2-AA; and 2-aminofluorene, 2-AF) mutagens. BISA did not alter mutagenic activity of SA and of NPD, and showed only a weak inhibitory effect on the mutagenicity induced by 4-NQNO and 2-NF. The mutagenic effects of AFB1, CP, B[a]P, 2-AA and 2-AF, on the other hand, were all markedly and dose-dependently reduced by BISA. It was also found that BISA inhibited pentoxyresorufin-o-depentylase (PROD, IC50 2.76 microM) and ethoxyresorufin-o-deethylase (EROD, 33.67 microM), which are markers for cytochromes CYP2B1 and 1A1 in rat liver microsomes. Since CYP2B1 converts AFB1 and CP into mutagenic metabolites, and CYP1A1 activates B[a]P, 2-AA and 2-AF, results suggest that BISA-induced antimutagenicity could be mediated by an inhibitory effect on the metabolic activation of these promutagens.  相似文献

In vivo and in vitrod sister-chromatid exchange (SCE) induction and cell replication kinetics were compared in P388 cells exposed to 4 mutagens. While concordance was observed between SCE induction and inhibition of cell replication kinetics, certain mutagens were more potent in vivo while others were more potent in vitro. These results indicate that caution should be applied before equating in vivo and in vitro mutagen exposures.  相似文献

Antimutagenicity of water and chloroform extracts of dried myroblan Terminalia chebula was determined against two direct acting mutagens, sodium azide and 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine (NPD) in strains TA100 and TA1535, and TA97a and TA98 of Salmonella typhimurium respectively and S9-dependent mutagen 2-aminofluorene (2-AF) in TA97a, TA98 and TA100 strains. Water extract reduced NPD as well as 2-AF induced his+ revertants significantly but did not have any perceptible effect against sodium azide included his+ revertants in TA100 and TA1535 strains of S. typhimurium. The pre-incubation studies, where the extract was incubated at 37 degrees C for 30 min with the said mutagen prior to plating, enhanced the inhibitory effect. Autoclaving the water extract reduced the inhibitory effect but the reduction in the effect was not significant. No inhibitory effect was observed in any of the strains and against any of the test mutagens with chloroform extract.  相似文献

We have developed a new Salmonella tester strain, TA97, for use in the Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity test. DNA sequencing has shown that this strain contains and added cytosine, resulting in a run of six cytosines at the mutated site in the histidine D gene. Its mutagenic specificity is similar to that of the frameshift mutagen tester strain, TA1537, which also contains an added cytosine in a run of cytosines and is currently among the five standard tester strains used for general mutagen screening. We assessed the mutagenic potency of 21 frameshift mutagens for TA1537 and TA97. TA97 was considerably more sensitive than TA1537 to reversion by these frameshift mutagens. In addition, one agent, PR toxin (from Penicillium roqueforti), which was not detected by any of the previously existing standard tester strains, did revert TA97; and two substituted aryl-alkyl triazenes, which had not been reported previously to be frameshift mutagens, were mutagenic in this new tester strain. We suggest that TA1537 be replaced by TA97 for general screening of mutagenicity.  相似文献

Aristolochic acid (1), a constituent of Aristolochia species, has been used for medicinal purposes since the Graeco-Roman period. Following the observation that the compound was mutagenic and carcinogenic, it was removed from pharmaceutical products. Consistent with previous reports, we have found that 1 serves as a direct-acting mutagen in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100, TA102, TA1537 and TM677, but was not active in the nitroreductase-deficient strains TA98NR and TA100NR. However, aristolic acid (2), a compound that differs in structure only by the absence of the nitro group, was also found to be a direct-acting mutagen in Salmonella strains TA98, TA100, TA102, TA1537, and TM677, as well as strains TA98NR and TA100NR. Both compounds (1 and 2) were active mutagens when evaluated with cultured Chinese hamster ovary cells. Thus, in contrast to previous suggestions, the nitro group at position 10 is not required to induce a mutagenic response. Also, a series of structural relatives (the methyl esters of 1 and 2 (3 and 4, respectively), aristolochic acid-D (5), aristolactam (6), aristolactam A-II (7), and aristolactam-N-beta-D-glucoside (8)) were evaluated for mutagenic potential with Salmonella typhimurium strain TM677 and found to be inactive. Since compounds 3 and 4 were found to be active mutagens with Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98, TA100, TA102 and TA1537 (sufficient quantities of compounds 5-8 were not available for testing), differential sensitivity of the tester strains unrelated to mutagenic potential is suggested. Further, compounds 1, 2, and 6-8 were evaluated for potential to inhibit growth with cultured KB or P388 cells. P388 cells were substantially more sensitive, and compound 1 was the most active of the materials tested (ED5 = 0.58 microM). Compound 6 also demonstrated appreciable activity (ED50 = 4.2 microM), as did compound 8 (ED50 = 6.0 microM). It therefore appears that phenanthrene-ring substituents, in addition to the nitro group at position 10, serve important roles for biological potential. In considering the carcinogenic event induced by aristolochic acid, these functionalities should also be taken into account.  相似文献

Synthetic carotenoid analogs, with increased utility for biological applications, are sparingly reported in the literature. Synthetic modification, which may increase the water solubility and/or water dispersibility of lipophilic carotenoids, allows their use in aqueous environments as potent antioxidants against potentially deleterious reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can be generated in vivo. Superoxide anion, produced by activated human neutrophils, can be a source of additional harmful ROS and nonradical species such as singlet oxygen in vivo. In the current study, direct scavenging of superoxide anion by a well-characterized C30 carotenoid phospholipid mixture was evaluated in a standard in vitro isolated human neutrophil assay by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, employing the spin-trap DEPMPO. The carotenoid phospholipid was tested in aqueous formulation (aqueous dispersibility >60 mg/mL), in which supramolecular assembly takes place, as well as in ethanolic formulation as a monomeric solution of the carotenoid phospholipids. The carotenoid phospholipid (a highly unsaturated zwitterionic surfactant) was compared with a previously characterized rigid, long-chain, highly unsaturated dianionic bolaamphiphile, which contains an additional three conjugated double bonds in its extended conjugated system. As previously reported, direct scavenging by the carotenoid phospholipid derivatives in monomeric ethanolic formulation was superior at each tested concentration to aqueous, aggregated formulations of the compounds. Additionally, the percent inhibition of superoxide signal was related to the apparent or effective length of the conjugated chromophore, consistent with previous reports of radical inhibition and singlet oxygen quenching by polyene carotenoids of differing length.  相似文献

The mutagenic potential of aqueous, Total Oligomers Flavonoids (TOF), ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts as well as essential oil (EO) obtained from tubers ofCyperus rotundus L. was assessed by “Ames assay”, usingSalmonella tester strains TA98 and TA100, and “SOS chromotest” usingEscherichia coli PQ37 strain with and without an exogenous metabolic activation system (S9). None of the different extracts showed a mutagenic effect. Likewise, the antimutagenicity of the same extracts was tested using the “Ames test” and the “SOS chromotest”. Our results showed thatC. rotundus extracts have antimutagenic effects withSalmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 strains towards the mutagen Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), as well as withE. coli PQ37 strain against AFB1 and nifuroxazide mutagens. A free radical scavenging test was used in order to explore the antioxidant capacity of the extracts obtained from the tubers ofC. rotundus. TOF, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts showed an important free radical scavenging activity towards the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical. These extracts showed IC50 values of respectively 5, 20 and 65 μg/ml. The beneficial effects of TOF, ethyl acetate, methanol and essential oil extracts ofC. rotundus have been assessed by antioxidant and antimutagenic activities.  相似文献

Vitamin E and carotenoids are known to act as antioxidants both in vitro and in vivo. In this review we present a series of studies in healthy subjects and in patients who exhibit either acute or chronic oxidative stress. In the EU-Commission funded VITAGE project we investigated the status and effects of vitamin E and carotenoids on oxidative stress in 300 healthy volunteers. Depletion studies limiting dietary vitamin E or carotenoid intake to 25% of the dietary reference intakes and subsequent repletion by supplementation with either large doses of vitamin E or intermediate doses of carotenoids showed significant changes in ex vivo LDL oxidizability, total plasma peroxide concentrations and urinary 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2-deoxyguanosine excretion. Patients on chronic hemodialysis present with oxidative stress in the presence of normal vitamin E but impaired vitamin C status and, due to anemia, need to be treated with parenteral iron. We studied the effects of a single oral dose of vitamin E taken 6 h prior to intravenous infusion of 100 mg iron, which exceeded the iron-binding capacity of transferrin. Vitamin E significantly reduced and in combination with a single dose of vitamin C completely abrogated acute oxidative stress induced by the iron load. Patients with cystic fibrosis are exposed to chronic oxidative stress due to an overproduction of reactive oxygen species as a result of neutrophil-dominated lung inflammation and impaired antioxidant status. Biochemical vitamin E and carotenoid deficiencies could be fully corrected even in the presence of fat malabsorption using intermediate doses of either RRR -tocopherol or all-rac -tocopheryl acetate and water-miscible all-trans β-carotene. Long-term supplementation reduced ex vivo LDL oxidizability, in vivo lipid peroxidation and lung inflammation.  相似文献
