It is commonly accepted that moderate intensity exercise is beneficial to the immune system. We tested the influence of a moderate intensity training protocol (8 weeks) upon immune system function in Wistar tumour-bearing (TB) rats. The metabolism of glucose and glutamine in lymphocytes and macrophages was assessed, together with some functional parameters (hydrogen peroxide production and lymphocyte proliferative response). These substrates were chosen since they represent the most important energetic and synthetic metabolites for these cellular types. The training protocol caused a decrease of 17.4 per cent in the production of H(2)O(2) by macrophages, as well as a decrease in glucose consumption (25 per cent) and lactate production (47.1 per cent), and an increase in the production of labelled CO(2) from the oxidation of [U-(14)C]-glucose, in TB rats. The training protocol was also able to induce changes in the maximal activity of some key enzymes in the metabolism of glucose and glutamine, a reduction of hexokinase (68.8 per cent) activity and an increase in the activity of citrate synthase (10.1 per cent) in TB rats. The training protocol increased the proliferative response of lymphocytes cultivated in the absence of mitogens (75 per cent), of those cultivated in the presence of ConA (38.2 per cent) and in the presence of LPS (45.0 per cent). These cells also showed an increase in the maximal activity of some key enzymes of the glycolytic and glutaminolytic pathways. Our data demonstrated that the training protocol was able to induce an increase in aerobic utilisation of both substrates in lymphocytes and macrophages. The training protocol was also able to prevent several changes in glucose and glutamine metabolism that are normally present in sedentary TB rats. These changes in immune cell metabolism induced by the training protocol were able to increase TB rat survival.  相似文献

In order to clarify the conclusion that the change of basal metabolism affected by physical training, effect of endurance training for 8 weeks on basal metabolism of young adult rats were investigated. Results are as follows. Endurance training increased significantly running ability of rats, for instance the running time at a speed of 25 m/min on the control and training groups were 53.7 +/- 18.8 min, 232.8 +/- 32.8 min, respectively. The ratio of soleus's weight to the body weight in trained rats was high significantly (p less than 0.05). The glycogen contents of trained rats under the condition of feeding have higher than the control rats. Especially, glycogen contents of the soleus and red-gastrocnemius significant increased (p less than 0.05), and liver glycogen content under the same condition increased significantly (p less than 0.02). The oxygen consumption in trained rats increased significantly compared with control rats (p less than 0.03). The basal metabolism of trained rats showed 1.24-fold increase compared with those of control (p less than 0.02). Oxygen consumption of sliced ventricle in trained rats increased significantly (p less than 0.03), it's rate was 118% of control. However those of other tissues did not change significantly.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of the menstrual cycle and physical training on heat loss (sweating and cutaneous vasodilation) responses during moderate exercise in a temperate environment. Ten untrained (group U) and seven endurance-trained (group T) women (maximal O2 uptake of 36.7+/-1.1 vs. 49.4+/-1.7 ml.kg-1.min-1, respectively; P<0.05) performed a cycling exercise at 50% maximal O2 uptake for 30 min during both the midfollicular and midluteal menstrual phase in a temperate environment (ambient temperature of 25 degrees C, relative humidity of 45%). In group U, plasma levels of estrone, estradiol, and progesterone at rest and esophageal temperature (Tes) during exercise were significantly higher during the midluteal than during the midfollicular phase (P<0.05). Sweating rate and cutaneous blood flow (measured via laser-Doppler flowmetry) on the chest, back, forearm, and thigh were lower during the midluteal than during the midfollicular phase during exercise. Tes threshold for heat loss responses was significantly higher and sensitivity of the heat loss responses was significantly lower in the midluteal than in the midfollicular phase, regardless of body site. These effects of the menstrual cycle in group U were not observed in group T. The sweating rate and cutaneous blood flow were significantly higher in group T than in group U, regardless of menstrual phase or body site. Tes threshold for heat loss responses was significantly lower and sensitivity of heat loss responses was significantly greater in group T than in group U in the midluteal phase; however, sensitivity of the sweating response was significantly greater in the midfollicular phase. These results suggest that heat loss responses in group U were inhibited in the midluteal phase compared with in the midfollicular phase. Menstrual cycle had no remarkable effects in group T. Physical training improved heat loss responses, which was more marked in the midluteal than in the midfollicular phase.  相似文献

A statistically significant 10% increase (p less than 0.005) in mean red cell 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) concentration, concomitantly with a mean 16% increase (p less than 0.001) in the predicted maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was observed in 29 recruits, who were studied during 6 months of physical training in military service. The increase in 2,3-DPG was higher, the lower the initial 2,3-DPG and VO2max levels. The mean initial 2,3-DPG level was higher in the subjects with a higher initial VO2max. A strenuous but highly aerobic 21-km marching exercise elicited a mean 9% increase (p less than 0.005) in red cell 2,3-DPG concentration. A significantly greater response of 2,3-DPG to marching exercise was observed in subjects with a lower pre-test VO2max than in those with a higher pre-test VO2max. During another more competitive march 2,3-DPG remained almost unchanged and was associated with a tendency towards a negative correlation with the acccompanying lactate response (r = -0.60, p less than 0.05). Red cell 2,3-DPG response to a standardized exercise is considered to be a suitable indicator for evaluating the effect of training on an individual.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effect of exercise training at different intensities on fat oxidation in obese men. Twenty-four healthy male obese subjects were randomly divided in either a low- [40% maximal oxygen consumption (VO(2 max))] or high-intensity exercise training program (70% VO(2 max)) for 12 wk, or a non-exercising control group. Before and after the intervention, measurements of fat metabolism at rest and during exercise were performed by using indirect calorimetry, [U-(13)C]palmitate, and [1,2-(13)C]acetate. Furthermore, body composition and maximal aerobic capacity were measured. Total fat oxidation did not change at rest in any group. During exercise, after low-intensity exercise training, fat oxidation was increased by 40% (P < 0.05) because of an increased non-plasma fatty acid oxidation (P < 0.05). High-intensity exercise training did not affect total fat oxidation during exercise. Changes in fat oxidation were not significantly different among groups. It was concluded that low-intensity exercise training in obese subjects seemed to increase fat oxidation during exercise but not at rest. No effect of high-intensity exercise training on fat oxidation could be shown.  相似文献

Data are reported on the net recovery O2 consumption (VO2) for nine male subjects (mean age 21.9 yr, VO2max 63.0 ml.kg-1.min-1, body fat 10.6%) used in a 3 (independent variables: intensities of 30, 50, and 70% VO2max) x 3 (independent variables: durations of 20, 50, and 80 min) repeated measures design (P less than or equal to 0.05). The 8-h mean excess postexercise O2 consumptions (EPOCs) for the 20-, 50-, and 80-min bouts, respectively, were 1.01, 1.43, and 1.04 liters at 30% VO2max (6.8 km/h); 3.14, 5.19, and 6.10 liters at 50% VO2max (9.5 km/h); and 5.68, 10.04, and 14.59 liters at 70% VO2max (13.4 km/h). The mean net total O2 costs (NTOC = net exercise VO2 + EPOC) for the 20-, 50-, and 80-min bouts, respectively, were 20.48, 53.20, and 84.23 liters at 30% VO2max; 38.95, 100.46, and 160.59 liters at 50% VO2max; and 58.30, 147.48, and 237.17 liters at 70% VO2max. The nine EPOCs ranged only from 1.0 to 8.9% of the NTOC (mean 4.8%) of the exercise. These data, therefore, indicate that in well-trained subjects the 8-h EPOC per se comprises a very small percentage of the NTOC of exercise.  相似文献

Total cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL-, HDL2-, HDL3-cholesterol were evaluated in 81 subjects, 49 of them practised moderate physical activity, 32 were controls. Total cholesterol and triglycerides were evaluated enzymatically. The Abell method was applied to analyse HDL-cholesterol and the HDL3 subclass. A significant difference was observed between the plasmatic triglycerides of the active group and the control, indicating that even moderate physical activity can be associated with lower concentrations of triglycerides. The correlation coefficients calculated for the HDL-cholesterol and the HDL2-cholesterol subclass, respectively, with some anthropometric and physiological variables were, in most of the cases, not significant. The highest number of significant correlations was found in the HDL3-cholesterol subclass, but in that of the control group only.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of intense interval training on erythrocyte 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) levels at rest and after maximal exercise. Eight normal men, mean +/- SE = 24.2 +/- 4.3 years, trained 4 days X week-1 for a period of 8 weeks. Each training session consisted of eight maximal 30-s rides on a cycle ergometer, with 4 min active rest between rides . Prior to and after training the subjects performed a maximal 45-s ride on an isokinetic cycle ergometer at 90 rev X min-1 and a graded leg exercise test ( GLET ) to exhaustion on a cycle ergometer. Blood samples were obtained from an antecubital vein before, during and after the GLET only. Training elicited significant increases in the amount of work done during the 45-s ride (P less than 0.05), and also in maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max: Pre = 4.01 +/- 0.13; Post = 4.29 +/- 0.07 1 X min-1; P less than 0.05) during exercise and total recovery VO2 (Pre = 19.14 +/- 0.09; Post = 21.45 +/- 0.10 1 X 30 min-1; P less than 0.05) after the GLET . To study the effects of exercise intensity and duration on excess postexercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), 8 men [age = 27.6 (SD 3.8) years, VO2max = 46.1 (SD 8.5) ml min-1 kg-1] performed four randomly assigned cycle-ergometer tests (20 min at 60% VO2max, 40 min at 60% VO2max, 20 min at 70% VO2max, and 40 min at 70% VO2max). O2 uptake, heart rate and rectal temperature were measured before, during, and for 1 h following the exercise tests. Blood for plasma lactate measurements was obtained via cannulae before, and at selected times, during and following exercise. VO2 rapidly declined to preexercise levels following each of the four testing sessions, and there were no differences in EPOC between the sessions. Blood lactate and rectal temperature increased (P < 0.05) with exercise, but had returned to preexercise levels by 40 min of recovery. The results indicate that VO2 returned to resting levels within 40 min after the end of exercise, regardless of the intensity (60% and 70% VO2max) or duration (20 min and 40 min) of the exercise, in men with a moderate aerobic fitness level.  相似文献

The present study sought to evaluate the inconsistencies previously observed regarding the predominance of continuous or interval training for improving fitness. The experimental design initially equated and subsequently maintained the same relative exercise intensity by both groups throughout the program. Twelve subjects were equally divided into continuous (CT, exercise at 50% maximal work) or interval (IT, 30 s work, 30 s rest at 100% maximal work) training groups that cycled 30 min day-1, 3 days.week-1, for 8 weeks. Following training, aerobic power (VO2max), exercising work rates, and peak power output were all higher (9-16%) after IT than after CT (5-7%). Vastus lateralis muscle citrate synthase activity increased 25% after CT but not after IT. A consistent increase in adenylate kinase activity (25%) was observed only after IT. During continuous cycling testing the CT group had reduced blood lactate (lab) levels and respiratory quotient at both the same absolute and relative (70% VO2max) work rates after training, while the IT group displayed similar changes only at the same absolute work rates. By contrast, both groups responded similarly during intermittent cycling testing with lower lab concentrations seen only at absolute work rates. These results show that, of the two types of training programs currently employed, IT produces higher increases in VO2max and in maximal exercise capacity. Nevertheless, CT is more effective at increasing muscle oxidative capacity and delaying the accumulation of lab during continuous exercise.  相似文献

The changes in high density lipoprotein (HDL) subfractions have been studied in 106 young healthy men after two months of physical training at a military base. Forty subjects were placed on a heavy intensity training program (HITP) with a daily average energy expenditure estimated as 3,504 Kcal, and 66 subjects followed a moderate intensity training program (MITP) with an average energy expenditure estimated as 2,942 Kcal/day. The HITP group reduced their body fat while HDL-cholesterol, HDL2-cholesterol and apoprotein (apo) A-I increased by 8.4%, 30% and 16.9% respectively (p less than 0.001). Body fat of MITP subjects did not change and HDL-cholesterol, HDL2-cholesterol and apo A-I increased by 5.6% (p less than 0.05), 17.1% (p less than 0.001) and 5.6% (p less than 0.05), respectively. The increase in serum apo A-I level was significantly higher (p less than 0.005) in the heavy intensity training group. The apo A-I/A-II ratio increased significantly in both groups (p less than 0.001), reflecting an increase in the HDL2/HDL3 ratio. This is in agreement with the significant increase in HDL2-cholesterol in both groups (p less than 0.001) with no change or decrease in HDL3-cholesterol.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of different intensity of exercise and different training status on antioxidants and cholesterol profile in cyclists. 33 male cyclists (17 amateur and 16 professional cyclists) participated in this study. The amateurs all trained 14 +/- 1 h each week, and their VO(2) max was 62.5 +/- 1.8 ml/Kg x min; the professionals all trained 24 +/- 1 h each week, and their VO(2) max was 80.2 +/- 1.6 ml/Kg x min. Amateurs were submitted to the maximal and submaximal prolonged exercise tests. Professionals were submitted to a mountain stage (170 km) of cycling competition. Serum lipid and cholesterol profile (triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and VLDL-cholesterol) and plasma antioxidant capacity (ascorbic acid, alpha-tocopherol, retinol, beta-carotene and others) were measured before and after exercise tests. Hematological determinations (number of erythrocytes, hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration) and dietary intake were also measured. No significant differences were observed in basal values (before exercise tests) of amateur and professional cyclists. Negligible differences were found between dietary intake of amateur and professional cyclists, and also the results of hematological values showed there was no effect of degree of hydration or dietary intake on blood levels of studied antioxidant and lipid parameters. An increase in plasma levels of vitamin C, vitamin E, triglycerides and VLDL-cholesterol levels, and also a decrease of beta-carotene and LDL-cholesterol. were observed in well-trained professional cyclists after the cycling stage - an endurance exercise--but not in amateur cyclists. Amateur cyclists showed only mild increases in total cholesterol after maximal and submaximal exercise, while a rise in HDL-cholesterol was only observed after maximal exercise; none of these changes were observed in professional cyclists. Plasma levels of antioxidant vitamins and carotenes, and also serum lipids, total cholesterol and lipoprotein-cholesterol showed an overall response to exercise, and their increase and/or decrease must be explained as a consequence of the different training status of sportsmen and intensity and duration of exercise tests.  相似文献

The influence of training on fatty acid and glyceride synthesis by liver and adipose tissue homogenates of young and old Fischer-344 rats was examined. Four groups of rats (10 animals/group) were studied: young untrained, young trained, old untrained, and old trained. Training of each group was for 10 wk at 75% maximal O2 uptake. Young rats were killed at 6 mo of age and old rats were killed at 27 mo of age. Fatty acid synthesis was assessed by measuring the activities of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, fatty acid synthase, ATP citrate-lyase, "malic" enzyme, and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Glyceride synthesis was evaluated by determining the rate of incorporation of [14C]glycerol 3-phosphate into lipids. In addition, lipoprotein lipase activity was measured in acetone-ether powders of adipose tissue from the four groups of rats. In liver, training had no effect on fatty acid or glyceride synthesis in either group. However, aging caused a significant decrease in the activities of four of the lipogenic enzymes but had no effect on glyceride synthesis. Training caused an increase in fatty acid synthase and glyceride synthesis in adipose tissue, and aging decreased lipoprotein lipase activity. It was concluded that training enhances the synthetic capacity of lipids by adipose tissue but that aging had a more profound effect in that the activities of the enzymes involved in these processes were lower in the old rats. Furthermore, the decreased activity of lipoprotein lipase in the older rats may explain the higher plasma triglyceride levels that were observed in these animals.  相似文献

We examined the effects of high-fat diet (HFD) and exercise training on insulin-stimulated whole body glucose fluxes and several key steps of glucose metabolism in skeletal muscle. Rats were maintained for 3 wk on either low-fat (LFD) or high-fat diet with or without exercise training (swimming for 3 h per day). After the 3-wk diet/exercise treatments, animals underwent hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp experiments for measurements of insulin-stimulated whole body glucose fluxes. In addition, muscle samples were taken at the end of the clamps for measurements of glucose 6-phosphate (G-6-P) and GLUT-4 protein contents, hexokinase, and glycogen synthase (GS) activities. Insulin-stimulated glucose uptake was decreased by HFD and increased by exercise training (P < 0.01 for both). The opposite effects of HFD and exercise training on insulin-stimulated glucose uptake were associated with similar increases in muscle G-6-P levels (P < 0.05 for both). However, the increase in G-6-P level was accompanied by decreased GS activity without changes in GLUT-4 protein content and hexokinase activities in the HFD group. In contrast, the increase in G-6-P level in the exercise-trained group was accompanied by increased GLUT-4 protein content and hexokinase II (cytosolic) and GS activities. These results suggest that HFD and exercise training affect insulin sensitivity by acting predominantly on different steps of intracellular glucose metabolism. High-fat feeding appears to induce insulin resistance by affecting predominantly steps distal to G-6-P (e.g., glycolysis and glycogen synthesis). Exercise training affected multiple steps of glucose metabolism both proximal and distal to G-6-P. However, increased muscle G-6-P levels in the face of increased glucose metabolic fluxes suggest that the effect of exercise training is quantitatively more prominent on the steps proximal to G-6-P (i.e., glucose transport and phosphorylation).  相似文献

The aim of this study was a detailed examination of the effects of moderate exercise on T-cells in adult male Wistar rats. The T-cell populations were compared in sedentary rats (C, n = 5) and in rats trained for 4 weeks on a treadmill (30-60 min.day-1, 6 days.week-1, 20-30 m.min-1) and sacrificed at rest (T-rest, n = 5). In the T-rest rats, there were higher percentages of CD4+CD8-, CD4-CD8+ and CD4-CD8- thymocytes (P < 0.05, P < 0.05 and P < 0.01 respectively) and of CD4-CD8+ splenocytes (P < 0.01), and a lower percentage of CD4-CD8+ cells in the lymph nodes (P < 0.01). Compared with T-rest or C rats, trained rats (n = 5) or untrained rats (n = 5) sacrificed immediately after a running session (60 min, 30 m.min-1) had a higher percentage of mononucleated cells CD4+CD8- in the blood (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01). Lastly, compared with C rats, rats (n = 5) sacrificed immediately after their 5th day of training (30-60 min.day-1) presented a higher total splenocyte population (P < 0.05) and greater in vitro production of T-cell growth factor (interleukin 2 + Interleukin 4) by splenocytes in response to a mitogen (P < 0.01). These results would indicate that moderate endurance training modifies the cellular composition of lymphoid organs, without impairing the in vitro functions of T-cells.  相似文献

We tested the theory that links the capacity to perform prolonged exercise with the size of the muscle tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediate (TCAI) pool. We hypothesized that endurance training would attenuate the exercise-induced increase in TCAI concentration ([TCAI]); however, the lower [TCAI] would not compromise cycle endurance capacity. Eight men (22 +/- 1 yr) cycled at approximately 80% of initial peak oxygen uptake before and after 7 wk of training (1 h/day, 5 days/wk). Biopsies (vastus lateralis) were obtained during both trials at rest, after 5 min, and at the point of exhaustion during the pretraining trial (42 +/- 6 min). A biopsy was also obtained at the end of exercise during the posttraining trial (91 +/- 6 min). In addition to improved performance, training increased (P < 0.05) peak oxygen uptake and citrate synthase maximal activity. The sum of four measured TCAI was similar between trials at rest but lower after 5 min of exercise posttraining [2.7 +/- 0.2 vs. 4.3 +/- 0.2 mmol/kg dry wt (P < 0.05)]. There was a clear dissociation between [TCAI] and endurance capacity because the [TCAI] at the point of exhaustion during the pretraining trial was not different between trials (posttraining: 2.9 +/- 0.2 vs. pretraining: 3.5 +/- 0.2 mmol/kg dry wt), and yet cycle endurance time more than doubled in the posttraining trial. Training also attenuated the exercise-induced decrease in glutamate concentration (posttraining: 4.5 +/- 0.7 vs. pretraining: 7.7 +/- 0.6 mmol/kg dry wt) and increase in alanine concentration (posttraining: 3.3 +/- 0.2 vs. pretraining: 5.6 +/- 0.3 mmol/kg dry wt; P < 0.05), which is consistent with reduced carbon flux through alanine aminotransferase. We conclude that, after aerobic training, cycle endurance capacity is not limited by a decrease in muscle [TCAI].  相似文献
