Summary The distribution of nitric oxide synthase immunoreactive nerves in the dog prostate was compared to the total innervation (as estimated by protein gene product 9.5 immunoreactivity), and to that of adrenergic (tyrosine hydroxylase-immunoreactive), cholinergic (acetylcholinesterase-positive), and some peptidergic nerves immunoreactive towards vasoactive intestinal peptide, pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide, and helospectin. Clusters of ganglia with cell bodies containing acetylcholinesterase, or one of these six immunoreactive components, were found in the dorsal capsule. Coarse nerve trunks expressing these immunoreactive components extended from the ganglia, and divided into varicose terminals in the capsule and intraglandular smooth muscle strands, and gave off further branches, which surrounded acini and accompanied ducts. The labelling for nitric oxide synthase generally coincided with that for vasoactive intestinal peptide within cell bodies and nerves of various types. Cell bodies, nerve trunks and varicose terminals showing labelling for pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide and helospectin were generally also labelled for vasoactive intestinal peptide. The innervation pattern suggests that nitric oxide may act in concert with vasoactive intestinal peptide and related peptides in the control of prostatic smooth muscle activity and secretion.  相似文献

Standard enzyme cytochemical and indirect immunocytochemical techniques have been used in conjunction with light and confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM) to visualize cholinergic, serotoninergic and peptidergic nerve elements in whole-mount preparations of the amphibian urinary-bladder fluke, Gorgoderina vitelliloba. Cholinesterase (ChE) activity was localized in paired anterior ganglia, a connecting dorsal commissure and in the origins of the ventral nerve cords. Cholinergic ganglia were also evident in shelled embryos in the uterus. Serotonin-immunoreactivity (IR) was more extensive than ChE activity and was identified in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Serotoninergic nerve fibres were associated with the somatic musculature and female reproductive ducts. Antisera to nine mammalian peptides and one invertebrate (FMRFamide) peptide have been used to investigate the peptidergic nervous system in the parasite. Immunoreactivity was obtained to five peptides, namely pancreatic polypeptide (PP), peptide YY (PYY), neuropeptide Y (NPY), substance P (SP) and FMRFamide. Peptidergic nerve fibres were found to be more abundant than demonstrable cholinergic or serotoninergic nerve fibres. NPY-IR was identified only in the main components of the central nervous system. However, PP- and PYY-IR occurred in the anterior ganglia, dorsal commissure, main nerve cords and in numerous small varicose fibres that ramified throughout the worm. Additionally, PP-immunoreactive nerve fibres were found to innervate the musculature of the female reproductive tracts. Six sites of IR were found in the acetabulum, using antisera directed towards the C-terminal end of PP and PYY, and these matched with the distribution of six non-ciliated rosette-like papillae observed by scanning electron microscopy. SP- and FMRFamide-IR were identified in the CNS, and FMRFamide-immunopositive nerve fibres were also evident in association with the gonopore cirrus region and with the terminal excretory pore. Results are discussed with respect to possible roles for each of the neurochemical types.  相似文献

Summary Para and prevertebral ganglia of the cat were investigated for immunoreactivity (IR) against neurotensin (NT), vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), substance P (SP) and enkephalin (ENK). Dopamine--hydroxylase- (DBH)-IR was studied in consecutive sections to correlate the distribution of noradrenergic/adrenergic neurons with that of peptidergic nerve fibres and cells.In paravertebral (cervical and thoracic) ganglia, NT-IR or ENK-IR nerve fibres were seen in areas in which DBH-IR fibre networks also occurred. NT-IR varicosities were often in close contact with perikarya of principal ganglionic cells on which DBH-IR varicosities also terminated. Such an association was rarely seen between ENK-IR and DBH-IR fibre baskets. NT-IR and ENK-IR fibre baskets were not found to occur around the same principal ganglionic cell. The distribution of VIP-IR and SP-IR nerve fibres did not coincide with that of DBH-IR fibres.In prevertebral ganglia (celiac-superior mesenteric and inferior mesenteric) DBH-IR or VIP-IR varicosities surrounded the majority of principal ganglionic neurons. ENK-IR or SP-IR fibres were closely associated with only a minority of the neurons; NT-IR networks were rather sparse. Some principal neurons were approached by DBH-IR fibres and by different peptide-IR fibres.In paravertebral ganglia some principal ganglionic cells contained VIP-IR, a few of which were also surrounded by NT-IR varicosities. VIP-IR perikarya in prevertebral ganglia were extremely rare. No NT-IR, SP-IR or ENK-IR principal ganglionic cells were found.Glomus-like paraganglionic cell clusters in paravertebral and prevertebral ganglia exhibited DBH-IR cell bodies. Moreover, the clusters also contained ENK-IR or SP-IR cells. NT-IR varicosities were observed adjacent to clustered paraganglionic cells. The distribution of galanin (Gal) in sympathetic vascular neurons of adult and juvenile brush-tailed possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), was examined using double-labelling immunohistochemistry. This was compared with the distribution of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the same tissues. Immunoreactivity (IR) to galanin was present in the majority (64-99%) of nerve cell bodies in paravertebral sympathetic ganglia, where it mostly co-existed with IR to the catecholamine-synthesizing enzyme, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). Gal-IR also was present in most, if not all, TH-IR perivascular axons supplying systemic arteries and veins. NPY-IR was less common than Gal-IR in all sympathetic ganglia and perivascular axons examined. Some sympathetic, TH-IR axons supplying the abdominal aorta and renal artery contained both Gal-IR and NPY-IR, while TH-IR axons supplying cephalic and thoracic vessels contained Gal-IR but not NPY-IR. Limited observations on sympathetic neurons in two species of wallabies indicated that Gal-IR also was more common than NPY-IR in other marsupial species, but the incidence of NPY-IR was higher in these wallabies than in the brush-tailed possum. Together with previous studies, this work suggests that the coexistence of galanin and NPY may be the primitive condition for sympathetic neurons in tetrapods. The differential expression of these peptides in specific populations of sympathetic neurons may have important functional consequences in the autonomic control of the circulation.  相似文献

The localization of bombesin- (BOMB) and enkephalin- (ENK) immunoreactive (IR) nerves was studied in rat coeliac-superior mesenteric ganglion complex in relation to neuropeptide Y (NPY)- and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-immunoreactive neurons with an immunofluorescence double-staining method. Very dense networks of BOMB-IR nerve terminals surrounded the majority of the principal ganglion cells, whether or not they were TH-IR. BOMB-IR nerves were specifically related to the non-NPY-IR neurons. Moderately dense networks of ENK-IR fibers were unevenly distributed among the ganglion cells. Majority of these neurons exhibited TH-IR and some of them also contained NPY-IR. In sections double stained with antibodies to ENK and BOMB some nerve fibers contained both peptides. The findings suggest that BOMB-IR nerves, which have been previously demonstrated to originate from gut, control the function of non-NPY-IR ganglion cells. ENK-IR nerves apparently control the adrenergic neurons which project to gut and also some NPY-IR vasomotoric neurons. The finding that ENK- and BOMB-IR coexist in some nerves suggests that some ENK-IR nerves may originate from gut, although the major part probably represents preganglionic fibers originating from spinal cord.  相似文献

Summary Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, substance P, neuropeptide Y and peptide histidine isoleucine immunoreactivities have been demonstrated in the female genitalia of rat, cat, mouse and guinea-pig using immunocytochemistry and radioimmunoassay. They were localized to nerves. Each type of immunoreactive nerve showed a distinct pattern of distribution, though all were associated to some degree with blood vessels and smooth muscle. Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-immunoreactive and neuropeptide Y-immunoreactive nerves were the most abundant. Higher concentrations of peptides were detected in the female genitalia of the mouse than those of the other species studied. Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-immunoreactive nerves were particularly concentrated in the cervix (89.1±17.2 pmol/g, mean±S.E.M.) and the uterus (57.4±14.8 pmol/g) of the mouse, while neuropeptide Y immunoreactivity was more abundant in the Fallopian tube of the mouse (31.6±11.8 pmol/g) and the vagina of the rat (38.6±4.8 pmol/g) than in other regions. Separate populations of ganglion cells in the paracervical ganglia were found to contain vasoactive intestinal polypeptide and neuropeptide Y immunoreactivities. Peptide histidine isoleucine-immunoreactive and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-immunoreactive nerves were similarly distributed, but the former were much less frequent. Substance P-immunoreactive nerves were seen mainly beneath the epithelium of the vagina and were, in general, more numerous in the guinea-pig than in other species. The distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), substance P/tachykinin (SP/TK), vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), neuropeptide Y (NPY) and gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) immunreactivities (IR) in the rat pancreas was investigated using radioimmunoassay and immunohistochemistry. CGRP, NPY and VIP tissue contents are much higher than GRP and SP/TK concentrations. Peptide-containing nerves are distributed to both the exocrine and endocrine pancreas. However, differences exist in terms of density and targets of innervation for each peptidergic system. In the acini and through the stroma, fibers IR for CGRP, NPY and VIP are greater than GRP- and SP/TK-containing processes. The vasculature is supplied by a prominent NPY, CGRP and, to a lesser extent, SP/TK innervation. VIP-IR is found occasionally, and GRP-IR is never detected, in fibers associated with blood vessels. Around ducts, CGRP- and NPY-positive neurites are greater than SP/TK- greater than or equal to VIP-IR fibers, whereas GRP-containing nerves are not visualized. In the islets, the density of peptidergic nerves is: VIP-, GRP- greater than or equal to CGRP-IR greater than NPY or SP/TK. In intrapancreatic ganglia. VIP- and, to a lesser extent, NPY-IRs are found in numerous neuronal cell bodies and in nerve fibers; GRP-IR is present in numerous nerve processes and in few cell bodies; CGRP- and SP/TK-IRs are detected only in fibers wrapping around unlabeled ganglion cells. The majority of CGRP-IR fibers contain SP/TK-IR. The existence of differential patterns of peptidergic nerves suggests that peptides exert their effects on pancreatic functions via different pathways.  相似文献

Cholinergic, serotoninergic (5-HT) and peptidergic neuronal pathways have been demonstrated in both central and peripheral nervous systems of adult Discocotyle sagittata, using enzyme histochemistry and indirect immunocytochemistry in conjunction with confocal scanning laser microscopy. Antisera to 2 native flatworm neuropeptides, neuropeptide F and the FMRFamide-related peptide (FaRP), GNFFRFamide, were employed to detect peptide immunoreactivity. The CNS is composed of paired cerebral ganglia and connecting dorsal commissure, together with several paired longitudinal nerve cords. The main longitudinal nerve cords (Iateral, ventral and dorsal) are interconnected at intervals by a series of annular cross-connectives, producing a ladder-like arrangement typical of the platyhelminth nervous system. At the level of the haptor, the ventral cords provide nerve roots which innervate each of the 8 clamps. Cholinergic and peptidergic neuronal organisation was similar, but distinct from that of the serotoninergic components. The PNS and reproductive system are predominantly innervated by peptidergic neurones.  相似文献

The presence and distribution of peptidergic nerve fibers were studied in the testis and mesorchium of the toad by means of immunohistochemistry. Cryostat sections of the testis and whole-mount preparations of mesorchia were immunostained with antisera to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and neuropeptide tyrosine (NPY). After leaving the mesorchium CGRP-immunoreactive (IR) fibers were seen predominantly running in between the seminiferous tubules. In addition, a small population of CGRP-IR nerve fibers formed thin plexuses around blood vessels. Conversely, NPY-like immunoreactivity predominated in nerve fibers that formed dense plexuses around vessels both in the mesorchium and testis. Additionally, some single NPY-IR nerve fibers could be seen in both structures studied. The functional significance of these peptidergic systems in the testis of the toad remains to be analyzed.  相似文献

Nerve fibres displaying neurokinin A (NKA)-immunoreactivity (IR) were seen in trigeminal nerve cell bodies and around cerebral blood vessels. NKA-positive fibres had the same general distribution as those displaying substance P (SP)-IR. Double or sequential immunostaining revealed coexistence of NKA- and SP-IR in a population of small nerve cell bodies in the trigeminal ganglion and in perivascular nerve fibres of brain vessels; both tachykinins were also noted to coexist with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-IR. The presence of NKA- and SP-IR in cerebral vessels from guinea pig was verified by high-performance liquid chromatography and radioimmunochemistry. The levels NKA-IR were higher than those of SP-IR in cerebral vessels of rat, guinea pig and rabbit. In cat, pig, cow and human brain vessels, the levels of NKA- and SP-IR were equal. Major cerebral vessels at the base of the brain contained higher levels of NKA- and SP-IR than pial vessels on the cerebral convexities. Only low levels of NKA-IR and SP-IR were measured in choroid plexus and dura mater. Precontracted isolated arterial segments of middle cerebral (cat), basilar (rabbit, guinea pig and rat) and pial arteries (man) relaxed following the in vitro administration of NKA and SP. The responses occurred in the same concentration range; the IC50 value for NKA was, however, about 10 times higher than that for SP, while the maximum relaxation was equal. In basilar arteries from guinea pig, the peptides NKA, SP and CGRP all induced strong and potent relaxations. There was no evidence that one of the peptides might potentiate the relaxant effects in vitro of another. The present data suggest that NKA, SP and CGRP are costored and can be released together and cooperate in the mediation of vascular reactions in response to activation of the trigemino-cerebrovascular pathway.  相似文献

The perivascular innervation of extraparenchymal arteries of spinal cord and the radicular arteries was examined using histochemical and immunohistochemical technics in monkey. The radicular and the extraparenchymal arteries of spinal cord were found to be invested with adrenergic, neuropeptide Y, vasoactive intestinal peptide, substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide containing nerve fibres. The pattern of arrangement of fibres differed among the various fibre types. SP- and CGRP-containing fibres were less in density as compared to other nerve plexus. There was no difference in density of an individual type of nerve fibre in arteries of different cord segments or between the radicular arteries from different levels. The study reveals the existence of a comprehensive perivascular adrenergic and peptidergic innervation of spinal cord arterial system, with a possible role in neurogenic regulation of spinal cord circulation.  相似文献

用HRP追踪法与免疫细胞化学法观察了大鼠直肠内P物质(SP)、降钙素基因相关肽(CGRP)和血管活性肠肽(VIP)三种肽能神经的支配与来源。结果显示:(1)直肠GCRP和VIP肽能神经起源于盆丛副交感神经节(PSG)。(2)直肠感觉神经纤维来自骶2-4节段双侧背根神经节(S2-4-DRG)SP能或CGRP能神经元。(3)感觉神经元的中枢突进入骶髓2-3节段后角并形成较粗大的外侧束,其中大部分传入纤维经后角外侧缘走行,终止于侧角区中间外侧核交感神经元胞体周围。其余部分传入纤维延伸到骶髓2-3节段灰质第Ⅱ、Ⅲ层和灰质后连合核(中央自主神经核),进入中间外侧核的传入纤维与后连合核也有联系。上述结果提示,支配直肠的VIP能神经元参与了直肠肌运动的调节;SP和CGRP能神经元可能与直肠的运动、感觉调节有关。  相似文献

Summary Serial cryostat and paraffin-embedded sections through the atrioventricular junction of the rat heart were studied at the light-microscopic level after indirect immunohistochemical staining (tyrosine hydroxylase, neuropeptide Y, C-terminal flanking peptide of neuropeptide Y immunoreactivities) or silver impregnation. The distribution of these immunoreactivities in the Hissian ganglion (Moravec and Moravec 1984) as well as the relationships of the Hissian ganglion cells with the surrounding structures have been studied to assess its function. The results suggest that the Hissian ganglion is composed of large multipolar neurons displaying both tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and related peptide (neuropeptide Y, C-terminal flanking peptide of neuropeptide Y) immunoreactivities. The dendritic projections of these adrenergic cells penetrate the reticular portion of the atrioventricular node and the upper segments of the interventricular septum where they constitute sensory-like corpuscles. The hypothesis that the adrenergic neurons of the atrioventricular junction are involved in short proprioceptive feedback loops necessary for beat-to-beat modulation of cardiac excitability and intracardiac conduction can thus be suggested.  相似文献

The distribution of peptidergic nerves in canine mammary tissues was studied by immunohistochemical techniques. In addition, the general and the noradrenergic innervations were demonstrated using protein gene product 9.5 and tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivities as markers, respectively. Tissue specimens from the caudal mammary glands were obtained from adult, non-lactating, female dogs. The overall innervation of the mammary gland tissue was sparse and primarily associated with the arterial vasculature. Nerve fibres positive for protein gene product 9.5 were rarely found in the secretory parenchyma. The nipple was not richly innervated, although it displayed a greater amount of nerve fibres than the mammary parenchyma. Nerve fibres supplying nonvascular structures of the nipple expressed immunoreactivity for the sensory neuropeptides calcitonin gene-related peptide, substance P and neuropeptide K, but not for vasoactive intestinal peptide, peptide histidine isoleucine and C-flanking peptide of neuropeptide Y. Somatostatin immunoreactivity was not detected in mammary gland tissue. Our results indicate that the innervation of the canine mammary gland is mainly affiliated with the vasculature and comprises peptidergic nerves which may be involved in the regulation of local blood flow. The presence of sensory neuropeptides in nerves supplying the mammary nipple suggest that these peptides may play a role in the afferent pathway of the milk ejection reflex.  相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY), immunoreactive (IR), and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-IR nerve fibers were scarce at birth in rat heart, but increased rapidly during the first 2 postnatal weeks, reaching approximately adult levels by the third week. The sequence of development was: interatrial septum and atrial wall, free ventricular wall starting from the epicardium, and finally the atrial appendages and interventricular septum. In ventricles and atrial appendages both fiber types developed similarly. In interatrial septum and atrial walls more NPY-IR than TH-IR fibers were evident, and NPY-IR, but not TH-IR, neurons were detected in intrinsic ganglia. Doublelabel immunohistochemistry provided further evidence that NPY is located in ventricular and atrial noradrenergic nerves, but is also located in nonnoradrenergic nerves in atria.  相似文献

Summary Histochemical, immunocytochemical, and radioenzymatic techniques were used to examine the neurotransmitter-related properties of the innervation of thoracic hairy skin in rats during adulthood and postnatal development. In the adult, catecholamine-containing fibers were associated with blood vessels and piloerector muscles, and ran in nerve bundles throughout the dermis. The distribution of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-immunoreactive (IR) fibers was identical. Neuronal fibers displaying neuropeptide Y (NPY) immunoreactivity were seen in association with blood vessels. Double-labeling studies suggested that most, if not all, NPY-IR fibers were also TH-IR and likewise most, if not all, vessel-associated TH-IR fibers were also NPY-IR. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-IR fibers were observed near and penetrating into the epidermis, in close association with hair follicles and blood vessels, and in nerve bundles. A similar distribution of substance P (SP)-IR fibers was evident. In adult animals treated as neonates with the sympathetic neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine, a virtual absence of TH-IR and NPY-IR fibers was observed, whereas the distribution of CGRP-IR and SP-IR fibers appeared unaltered. During postnatal development, a generalized increase in the number, fluorescence intensity, and varicose morphology of neuronal fibers displaying catecholamine fluorescence, NPY-IR, CGRP-IR, and SP-IR was observed. By postnatal day 21, the distribution of the above fibers had reached essentially adult levels, although the density of epidermal-associated CGRP-IR and SP-IR fibers was significantly greater than in the adult. The following were not evident in thoracic hairy skin at any timepoint examined: choline acetyltransferase activity, acetylcholinesterase histochemical staining or immunoreactivity, fibers displaying immunoreactivity to vasoactive intestinal peptide, cholecystokinin, or leucine-enkephalin. The present study demonstrates that the thoracic hairy skin in developing and adult rats receives an abundant sympathetic catecholaminergic and sensory innervation, but not a cholinergic innervation.  相似文献

The influence of pregnancy on the density and pattern of the peptidergic innervation of the guinea pig uterine artery was studied. Whole mount stretch preparations of the uterine artery from estrus and late pregnant guinea pigs were processed for the immunohistochemical demonstration of neuropeptide Y (NPY)-, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)- and substance P (SP)- immunoreactive nerve fibres. In late pregnancy the density of NPY- and CGRP- containing nerve fibres was remarkably decreased, while that of VIP- and SP- immunoreactive nerves showed a moderate reduction. The meaning and the possible physiological relevance of the decreased density of peptide-immunoreactive nerves in the uterine artery in late pregnancy are discussed.  相似文献

With the use of several region-specific antisera and the peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) technique, several regulatory polypeptides were localized in nerves of the kidney. Neuropeptide Y (NPY)- immunoreactivity (IR), neurotensin (NT)-IR and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-IR occurred at high densities in all segments of the renal arterial system forming a perivascular plexus. Furthermore, NT-IR nerves were particularly frequent at the juxtaglomerular apparatus (JGA). Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-IR was mainly concentrated in nerves supplying the hilus arteries and the JGA. Substance P (SP)-IR was predominantly found in large varicosities close to large renal arterial vessels and in the vicinity of the JGA. Somatostatin (SOM)-IR was only observed in single varicosities located at the media-adventitia border of large renal hilus arteries. The peptidergic nerves are correlated to their ultrastructural counterpart. In addition, the distribution patterns and the frequency of the different types of renal peptidergic nerve fibres are evaluated and compared. The functional role of these neuropeptides and their origin within the efferent branch of this part of the peripheral autonomic nervous system is discussed. Furthermore, the implication of some of the neuropeptides studied in afferent renal innervation is also substantiated.  相似文献

Developing submandibular, trigeminal and superior cervical ganglia, which provide innervation to the submandibular glands, were studied for substance P (SP)-and neurokinin A (NKA)-immunoreactive (IR) ganglion cells and nerve fibres in rat. These ganglia were examined by using an indirect immunofluorescence technique at daily intervals from the 16th day in utero (i.u.) until birth, and subsequently on the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 12th, 16th, 30th, 42nd postnatal day and in the adult (3 months). In the submandibular ganglion SP- and NKA-IR cells and fibres first appeared in considerable numbers on the 19th day i.u. (in one sample out of five on the 18th day i.u.), when more than 90% of the ganglion cells were immunoreactive to SP and NKA. The number stayed at more than 90% to the 7th postnatal day and then slowly decreased to the levels of adult animals (18% SP, 17% NKA). The first SP- and NKA-IR ganglion cells and fibres appeared in the trigeminal ganglion on the 18th day i.u. when they represented 7% (SP) and 4% (NKA) of the ganglion cells. The number of SP- and NKA-IR cells increased steadily, reaching a maximum at the time of birth when 68% (SP) and 74% (NKA) of the ganglion cells were immunoreactive. Thereafter they began to decrease toward the level of an adult rat (10% SP, 11% NKA). In the superior cervical ganglion only a few SP-and NKA-IR ganglion cells were detected from the 19th day i.u. to the fifth postnatal day. Summary With the use of several region-specific antisera and the peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) technique, several regulatory polypeptides were localized in nerves of the kidney. Neuropeptide Y (NPY)- immunoreactivity (IR), neurotensin (NT)-IR and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-IR occurred at high densities in all segments of the renal arterial system forming a perivascular plexus. Furthermore, NT-IR nerves were particularly frequent at the juxtaglomerular apparatus (JGA). Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-IR was mainly concentrated in nerves supplying the hilus arteries and the JGA. Substance P (SP)-IR was predominantly found in large varicosities close to large renal arterial vessels and in the vicinity of the JGA. Somatostatin (SOM)-IR was only observed in single varicosities located at the media-adventitia border of large renal hilus arteries. The peptidergic nerves are correlated to their ultrastructural counterpart. In addition, the distribution patterns and the frequency of the different types of renal peptidergic nerve fibres are evaluated and compared. The functional role of these neuropeptides and their origin within the efferent branch of this part of the peripheral autonomic nervous system is discussed. Furthermore, the implication of some of the neuropeptides studied in afferent renal innervation is also substantiated.Dedicated to Prof. Dr. T.H.
