In order to study the propagation of vibration along the spine, the authors developed a method allowing in vivo et in situ measurement of vibrational accelerations in the lower lumbar spine of a primate.

The surgical technique used to anchor the miniature accelerometers on the anterior wall of vertebral bodies is described. After recovery, the sitting animal is exposed to a vibration stimulus. Direct recording of data obtained from the lowest four lumbar vertebrae of a healthy live animal provide objective information on the behavior of intervertebral discs and will later permit definition of the role of skeletal muscles in the spinal response to a vibrational stress.  相似文献

Changes in spinal posture between the erect and flexed positions were calculated using angular measurements from lateral photographs and radiographs of ten adult male subjects. For photographic measurements, the thoracolumbar vertebral column was modelled as either a single segment or as three segments. In the three-segment model, there was a non-significant correlation between the decrease in lumbar concavity and intervertebral motion. In addition, there was a non-significant negative correlation between the increase in thoracic convexity and lumbar motion determined radiographically. In the single-segment model, the decrease in angulation between the thoracolumbar spine and pelvis was a good representation of lumbar spine flexion as determined by the mean lumbar intervertebral angular change. Therefore, modelling the thoracolumbar vertebral column as a single segment allowed better estimation of lumbar intervertebral angular change during flexion than a three-segment model. The results indicate that large range dynamic motion of the lumbar vertebral column can be represented using photographic analysis of the positions of three easily identified anatomical landmarks: the anterior superior iliac spine, posterior superior iliac spine and the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra.  相似文献

Regularities in development and differentiation of vertebrae have been investigated according to ageing. The data concerning the size of the vertebral canal at the level of the lumbar vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs, intensity of increase of these dimensions in various age periods, the character of spatial relations of sizes and form of the canal has been analysed. The transversal section area of the canal and the body in the corresponding segment varies between 1:3 and 1:5.5. By means of x-ray osteophotometry the mineralization degree of the lumbar vertebral bodies has been determined in men of various age. An important fact has been stated on a close connection between mineral saturation in juvenile and first mature ages with induces of general strength.  相似文献

The author describes one-stage investigation of the epidural and preneural spaces at the lumbar level using gas and a needle for lumbar puncture with a longitudinal side hole at the working end with subsequent roentgenography (pneumospondylography). Altogether 140 patients with lumbar vertebral osteochondrosis with neurological disorders were examined. Pneumospondylography gives 3 levels of contrast and ensures information on the sizes of the epidural and arachnoidal spaces, function of the invertebral holes and paravertebral tissues. The phenomenon of differentiation of the dural sac wall helps to diagnose in more detail the posterior protrusions of the intervertebral disks with concomitant epiduritis, pachymeningitis, arachnoiditis by the length and diameter of the vertebral canal.  相似文献

In 50 mature Chinchilla rabbits a model of chronic insufficiency of blood supply in the lumbar vertebral bodies has been disturbed as a result of unilateral sectioning of the segmentary arteries and veins. By means of light and transmissive electron microscopy the dynamics of structural changes has been followed in tissue of the intervertebral discs for 3 months after the operative intervention. Under hypoxia in the ground substance of the pulposus++ nucleus even proteoglycans granular-filamentous network gradually develops and floccular material and transverse striated filamentous aggregates are accumulated. Notochord cells are subjected to certain degenerative changes and die. Simultaneously fibroblastic cells of the pulposus++ nucleus periphery become activated, they produce glycosaminoglycans and collagen. As a result the hydrated tissue of the pulposus++ nucleus is substituted for a newly formed fibrous cartilage. The process of fibroses in the intervertebral disc is completed in 3 months after blood circulation has been disturbed in the vertebral bodies.  相似文献

The major arteries supplying the vertebral column are definite. The branching arteries of these trunks are variable. The posterior intercostal arteries and the lumbar arteries have an ascending, descending or horizontal course. In accordance with the literature, we found large, arched anastomoses between the rami ascendentes and the rami descendentes arising from the rami canalis vertebralis anteriores on the dorsal plane of the vertebral bodies. There are also nearly horizontal junctions between the rr. ascendentes of both sides. We found junctions on the front of the thoracolumbar vertebral column at the end of the arteries. On the dorsal plane of the vertebral body 2 arteriae centrales posteriores originate from the rr. ascendentes. They run to the centre of the vertebral body. On the ventrolateral plane of the vertebral body 2 or 3 aa. centrales anteriores can be found. These 4 or 5 arteries join in the middle of the vertebral body. The blood supply of the thoracal and lumbar vertebral bodies does not differ essentially. Vessels come especially from lateral in the intervertebral disc. We suggest to name such a vessel ramus disci intervertebralis. The posterior longitudinal ligament is mainly supplied by the junction between the rr. ascendentes of both sides and the anterior longitudinal ligament by the aa. nutriciae in the thoracal and the lumbar area.  相似文献

The morphogenesis of gonads in Bufo bufo tadpoles was studied, and ultrastructural differences between sexes were identified. All specimens analyzed initially developed gonads made up of a peripheral fertile layer (cortex) surrounding a small primary cavity. Subsequently a central layer of somatic cells (medulla) developed. Both layers were separated by two uninterrupted basal laminae between which a vestige of the primary cavity persisted. During female differentiation, the peripheral layer continued to be the fertile layer. In males, the central layer blended into the peripheral layer and the basal laminae disappeared. The somatic cells of the central layer came into direct contact with the germ cells; this did not occur in females. Testicular differentiation continued with the migration of germ cells towards the center of the gonad. The somatic elements surrounding the germ cells appeared to play an active role in their transfer to the center of the gonad. The peripheral layer shrank and became sterile. Two basal laminae then re-formed to separate the fertile central layer from the peripheral sterile one. Germ cells have always been thought to perform a passive role in sex differentiation in amphibians. Following the generally accepted "symmetric model", the mechanism of gonad development is symmetrical, with cortical somatic cells determining ovarian differentiation and medullary somatic cells determining testicular differentiation. In contrast, we found that sex differentiation follows an "asymmetric" pattern in which germ cells tend primarily toward a female differentiation and male differentiation depends on a secondary interaction between germ cells and medullary somatic cells.  相似文献

Destructive changes in vertebral bodies, mainly in the thoracic part, zones of rearrangement and pseudoarthrosis are revealed in Bekhterev's disease. These changes develop in advanced stages of this disease in the form of subligamentous destruction of the anterior surface of vertebral bodies, limited destruction in the area of anterior parts in the zone of intervertebral disks, superficial destruction of cranial and caudal body plates with shortening of a height of an intervertebral disk, deep destruction of adjacent surfaces of vertebral bodies with expansion of intervertebral spaces.  相似文献

In liver biopsy specimens, foci of satellitosis, i.e., foci of alcoholic hyalin containing hepatocytes surrounded by accumulated leukocytes, were studied by means of electron-microscopic investigation. Within satellitosis hepatocytes, the same morphologic variants of alcoholic hyalin were observed as formerly described in nonsatellitosis liver cells: (1) clusters of randomly oriented smooth filaments of homogenous electron density, (2) bundles of filaments aligned in parallel arrays and exhibiting irregular densities and indistinct boundaries, and (3) masses of a strongly osmiophilic amorphous material, presumably lipidic in nature. The individual hyalin body was composed of one, two, or all three components in varying proportions; an uptake by cytosegresomes was never observed. The leukocytes of satellitosis foci, mostly polymorphonuclear ones without obvious alterations, had close contact to the central hepatocytes, and sometimes covered large holes in the hepatocellular plasma membrane. In other cases, hepatocytes and neutrophils were both destroyed and the hyalin bodies were found unaltered within the sinusoids. It is suggested that alcoholic hyalin represents an inert proteinaceous storage material, deposited at the site of synthesis which in the course of time becomes superimposed by a lipid component. In cases of alcohol-induced hepatocellular lesions, those hepatocytes which produce hyalin bodies may have a special metabolic sensitivity to alcohol which on the one hand may result in hyalin synthesis and accumulation and on the other hand may, under special conditions, lead to plasma membrane destruction with secondary satellitosis formation.  相似文献

The ultrastructure and development of oil idioblasts in theshoot apex and leaves in Annona muricata L. are described, andthree arbitrary developmental stages are distinguished: cellsin which no additional cell wall layers have been depositedagainst the initial primary cell wall, possessing an electron-translucentcytoplasm and distinct plastids which lack thylakoids (stage1); cells in which a suberized layer has been deposited againstthe primary wall (stage 2, the cytoplasm resembles that of thepreceding stage), and cells in which an additional inner walllayer has been deposited against the suberized layer, whichincreases in thickness with development (stage 3). In this stagean oil cavity is formed, surrounded by the plasmalemma, andattached to a bell-like protrusion of the inner wall layer,the cupule. A complex membranous structure occurs next to thecupule. Smooth tubular endoplasmic reticulum (ER), appearingas linearly arranged tubules, and groups of crystalline bodieswith an almost hexagonal outline are present. The final stagewas further subdivided into three subgroups (a, b, c) basedon the extent of the oil cavity, its contents, and the compositionof the cytoplasm, and increasing thickness of the inner walllayer. The oil is probably synthesized in the plastids, releasedinto the cytoplasm, and then passed through the plasmalemmasurrounding the oil cavity. Previous research on subfossil lemurs has revealed much about the positional behavior of these extinct strepsirrhines, but a thorough quantitative analysis of their vertebral form and function has not been performed. In this study, 156 lumbar vertebrae of Pachylemur, Archaeolemur, Megaladapis, Mesopropithecus, Babakotia, and Palaeopropithecus (11 species in all) were compared to those of 26 species of extant strepsirrhines and haplorhines. Lumbar shape was compared among species, using a principal components analysis (PCA) in conjunction with selected vertebral indices. The first principal component revealed strong separation between Palaeopropithecus at one extreme, and Archaeolemur/Pachylemur at the other, with Babakotia, Mesopropithecus, and Megaladapis in an intermediate position. Palaeopropithecus has markedly shorter spinous processes and wider laminae than do the other subfossil taxa, consistent with sloth-like, inverted suspensory postures. The moderately reduced lumbar spinous processes of Babakotia, Mesopropithecus, and Megaladapis are convergent with those of lorisids and Pongo, reflecting antipronogrady, but a less specialized adaptation than that of Palaeopropithecus. Archaeolemur and Pachylemur share relatively elongated spinous processes, in conjunction with other features (e.g., transverse process orientation and relatively short vertebral bodies) indicative of pronograde, quadrupedal locomotion characterized by reduced agility. All subfossil taxa exhibit adaptations emphasizing lumbar spinal stability (e.g., relatively short vertebral bodies, and transverse processes that are not oriented ventrally); we believe this probably reflects convergent mechanical demands connected to large body size, irrespective of specific locomotor mode. Reconstructions of positional behavior in subfossil lemurs based on lumbar vertebrae are largely consistent with those based on other aspects of the postcrania.  相似文献

In cereal seed, there are no symplastic connections between the maternal tissues and the endosperm. In order to facilitate solute transport, both the nucellar projection and its opposite endosperm epithelial cells in wheat caryopsis differentiate into transfer cells. In this paper, we did contrast observation and investigation of wheat endosperm transfer cells (ETC) and nucellar projection transfer cells (NPTC). The experimental results showed that there were some similarities and differences between ETC and NPTC. ETC and NPTC almost developed synchronously. Wall ingrowths of ETC and NPTC formed firstly in the first layer nearest to the endosperm cavity, and formed later in the inner layer further from the endosperm cavity. The mature ETC were mainly three layers and the mature NPTC were mainly four layers. Wall ingrowths of ETC were flange type and wall ingrowths of NPTC were reticulate type. NPTC were not nutrient-storing cells, but the first layer of ETC had aleurone cell features, and the second layer and third layer of ETC accumulated starch granules and protein bodies.  相似文献

The surface and internal structure of air-dried, freeze-dried, or critical-point-dried cells ofAcetivibrio cellulolyticus were determined by negative staining, and by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The cell wall has five layers, the outermost being the widest. This outermost layer is soft and amorphous, adsorbs cellulose microfibrils, and shows projections of tenuous appearance. Results of staining with heavy ions indicate that the outermost layer carries a net positive charge. The flagellum is a tubular, uniform extension of this outermost layer, about, 20 nm in diameter and approximately 6.4 m long, with no visible internal details or basal body. The inner layers of the wall show no fine structure, other than differences in electron opacity. The cytoplasm is composed of a mixture of densely staining spheres and smaller globules in a background of fine particles. These particles are not completely destroyed by fixation with KMnO4, which indicates that they are low in ribonucleic acid. There is no evidence for membranes around or outside of any of these bodies.  相似文献

Schmorl's nodes are depressions on vertebrae due to herniation of the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disc into the vertebral body. This study provides an extension of our previous study which analyzed the shape of the lower thoracic spine and found that vertebral morphology was associated with the presence of Schmorl's nodes. Ninety adult individuals from the late Medieval site of Fishergate House, York, and the Post‐Medieval site of Coach Lane, North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, were analysed using 2D geometric morphometrics to identify possible relationships between vertebral morphology and Schmorl's nodes at the thoraco‐lumbar junction and in the lumbar spine. A significant correlation was found between vertebral shape and the presence of Schmorl's nodes in the twelfth thoracic vertebrae and the first to third lumbar vertebrae. The findings corroborate previous studies and suggest that vertebral shape may be an important factor in spinal health. It is hypothesized that the pedicle shape of affected vertebrae may not provide adequate structural support for the vertebral bodies, resulting in vertical disc herniation. The protein composition and organization of the sea urchin extraembryonic hyaline layer was examined. Hyalin and a polypeptide of 45 kilodaltons (kDa) were present in hyaline layers isolated from 1-h-old embryos through to the pluteus larva stage. In contrast, several polypeptide species ranging in size from 175 to 32 kDa either decreased in amount or disappeared from the layer as embryonic development proceeded. Concomitant with the changes in composition, hyaline layers became progressively more refractory to dissolution by washing in Ca2+, Mg2(+)-free seawater. Incubation of intact layers, isolated from 1-h-old embryos, with proteinase K resulted in the selective digestion of hyalin and was accompanied by release of the 45-kDa polypeptide from the layers. Washing intact layers in 20 mM Tris (pH 8.0) also resulted in the selective removal of hyalin and the 45-kDa polypeptide. The Ca2(+)-precipitable protein hyalin, alone among the hyaline layer polypeptides, bound the Ca2(+)-antagonist ruthenium red. These results suggest a structural organization within the hyaline layer that is both heterogenous and dynamic throughout embryonic development.  相似文献

The distribution and immunocytochemical characterization of nerve fibers and their terminals in the posterior longitudinal ligament of the rat lumbar vertebral column was studied in whole-mount preparations and serial semithin and ultrathin sections. Differences in the localization, distribution pattern and density of peptidergic and catecholaminergic nerve fibers were found in the vertebral and intervertebral regions of the posterior longitudinal ligament. For immunocytochemistry, free floating specimens were incubated with primary antibodies against protein gene product 9.5, substance P, calcitonin gene-related peptide, dopamine-beta-hydroxylase, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide and neuropeptide Y together with the avidin-biotin-peroxidase method. In whole-mount preparations, the neural marker protein gene product 9.5 is immunostained in all unmyelinated nerve fibers in the posterior longitudinal ligament, thus giving a panoramic view of the nerve fiber plexus. The most striking nerve fiber plexus is localized in the intervertebral region. In this region, the posterior longitudinal ligament is rich in capillaries that form a dense plexus within its ventral part and extend to the outer layer of the annulus fibrosus. The peptidergic and catecholaminergic innervation of the posterior longitudinal ligament is discussed in the context of pain syndromes related to the vertebral column and degenerative lumbar spine diseases.  相似文献

Palynomorphs with complex resistant walls have been recovered from several Cambrian deposits in the continental United States. Those recovered from the Bright Angel Shale of Arizona typically preserve both a primary wall, and an outer envelope (synoecosporal wall) that encloses multiple spore-like bodies within. At least three distinct types of primary walls, are recognized with the TEM: 1) a unilaminate wall with a smooth inner surface and a sculptured outer surface, 2) a wall of three unornamented laminae of very uniform thickness, and, 3) a thicker wall with multiple thin, lightly-staining layers embedded in a darker matrix. This third type of primary wall bears a strong resemblance to those of certain Lower Devonian hilate cryptospore monads from the Welsh Borderlands. No extant algae produce spores with walls as thick or as complex, suggesting that these Cambrian palynomorphs were the desiccation-resistant spores of cryptogams belonging to the charophyte–embryophyte lineage. Multilaminate spore walls, which are characteristic of some extant liverworts and Paleozoic cryptospores, may have evolved via the fusion of separate, multiple laminae. This appears to be the primitive plant sporoderm type, but it may have evolved asynchronously with respect to the evolution of the embryophytic development of the sporophyte in land plants.  相似文献

The morphology of the lumbar spine is crucial for upright posture and bipedal walking in hominids. The excellent preservation of the lumbar spine of Kebara 2 provides us a rare opportunity to observe a complete spine and explore its functionally relevant morphology. The lumbar spine of Kebara 2 is analyzed and compared with the lumbar spines of modern humans and late Pleistocene hominids. Although no size differences between the vertebral bodies and pedicles of Kebara 2 and modern humans are found, significant differences in the size and orientation of the transverse processes (L1‐L4), and the laminae (L5, S1) are demonstrated. The similarity in the size of the vertebral bodies and pedicles of Kebara 2 and modern humans suggests similarity in axial load transmission along the lumbar spine. The laterally projected (L2‐L4) and the cranially oriented (L1, L3) transverse processes of Kebara 2 show an advantage for lateral flexion of the lumbar spine compared with modern humans. Morphogenesis of the cervical vertebrae has been investigated in Dipis sagitt. and in Rattus norvegicus. The main distinctive feature of the Dipis embryos at the mesenchymal stage is their very thin perichordal intervertebral rings. As a result, short cartilaginous vertebral bodies and thin intervertebral discs develop, cervical segments lengthen more slowly than those of the Rattus. Because of the small length of the Dipis cervical segments, the cartilaginous neural arches and the transverse processes of 2-6 vertebrae draw nearer and fuse. Owing to the insufficient development of the Dipis intervertebral discs and the nuclei pulposae, the normal formation of the vertebral epiphyses is disturbed, this results in fusion of the neighbouring osseous vertebral bodies.  相似文献
