Noel H. Holmgren 《Brittonia》1998,50(2):159-164
Two Nevada species are described here for the first time: Penstemon tiehmii N. H. Holmgren, which is endemic to Mount Lewis of the Shoshone Range in Lander County; and Penstemon rhizomatosus N. H. Holmgren, which is endemic to the central Schell Creek Range in White Pine County. They both belong to section Saccanthera and are closely related to P. kingii S. Watson, a Great Basin endemic of valley sagebrush habitats. Both new species are talus plants of higher elevations and differ from P. kingii principally in their rhizomatous habit, petiolate leaves, and pubescence of shorter hairs.  相似文献

Abstract

Meristies and morphometries are reported for 81 specimens of Alepisaurus ferox and 31 of A. brevirostris, mostly from the Pacific Ocean. The holotype and topotype of A. ferox and two paratypes of A. brevirostris, all from the Atlantic Ocean, were also examined. For specimens longer than aJoout 500 mm SL, ferox is distinguishable from brevirostris by its relatively longer head and snout. In ferox the dorsal fin origin is a1bove or behind the hind margin of the operculum; in brevirostris it is in front. Paoific Ocean ferox have significantly fewer dorsal fin rays (mean 36.6) than Atlantic (40.5) and Indian Ocean (40.8) examples. In the Pacific, ferox can be distinguished from brevirostris by its fewer dorsal rays, but in the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean there is considerable overlap in dorsal ray counts. A. ferox is found world-wide, whereas brevirostris is not known from the North Pacific. The northernmost record of brevirostris in the Pacific is from 14°47′S.  相似文献

Abstract

We studied infraspecific morphological variation within European Dicranum majus Sm. A principal components analysis based on six leaf characters scored in 82 specimens revealed two distinct plant types. Plants with bistratose submarginal upper leaf lamina cells, numerous spine-like dorsal lamina projections, a costa that is dorsally rough far down and has two layers of guide cells in its basal part, and falcate or strongly falcate, long leaves are mainly of a relatively southern origin. Specimens with a unistratose, smooth upper leaf lamina, a costa that is dorsally rough only above and has one layer of guide cells, and with slightly curved to straight, short leaves were only collected in northern Europe. Even if most authors do not formally recognize variation within D. majus, our results suggest that the two kinds of plants should be recognized at least at the variety level. In view of the confusing nomenclature in Dicranum it is beyond the scope of this paper to find a name for the northern plant. Type material of D. majus var. orthophyllum A. Braun ex Milde, a name that was frequently used for northern North American plants, belongs to the southern phenotype.  相似文献

Seven lignans were isolated from 70 % aqueous acetone extracts of the twigs and leaves of Horsfieldia kingii. Among these, new compounds 1 – 3 were identified by spectroscopic techniques, with horsfielenigans A and B ( 1 and 2 ) being particularly noteworthy for their rare β-benzylnaphthalene skeleton, where compound 1 contains an oxabicyclo[3,2,1]octane moiety. In vitro evaluation of bioactivity against nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-activated RAW264.7 macrophages revealed inhibitory effects by 1 (IC50=7.3 μM) and 2 (IC50=9.7 μM).  相似文献

The names of all 135 species-group taxa of Cerambycidae described by N. N. Plavilstshikov are listed. Types of all these taxa preserved in the Zoological Museum of the Moscow State University and in the Zoological Institute (St. Petersburg) are catalogued, with lectotypes and paralectotypes designated. New synonymies are proposed: Pseudosieversia rufa (Kraatz, 1879) = Macrorhabdium ruficollis Plavilstshikov, 1915, syn. n.; Pseudo sieversia Pic, 1902 = Macrorhabdium Plavilstshikov, 1915, syn. n.; Agapanthia angelicae Reitter, 1898 = A. jacobsoni Plavilstshikov, 1915, syn. n. Dorcadion arietinum phenax Jakovlev, 1900, stat. n. is a valid name of the taxon known before as D. arietinum strandi Plav. Alosterna tabacicolor subsp. tokatensis Pic, 1901 (= A. t. caucasica Plavilstshikov, 1936, syn. n.) is regarded as a valid name (nomen protectum), and A. chrysomeloides var. subvittata Reitter, 1885 is regarded a nomen oblitum, as well as Cortodera umbripennis var. pallidipes Pic, 1898, while C. ruthena Plavilstshikov, 1936 is nomen protectum. Vadonia bipunctata puchneri Holzschuh, 2007, stat. n. is widely distributed in southern Ukraine and southern Russia from Dnepropetrovsk to Rostov-on-Don, and in the North Caucasus; specimens of this subspecies, as also specimens of V. saucia (Mulsant et Godart, 1855), stat. rest., known from the southern Crimea, constitute a part of the type series of V. bipunctata mulsantiana (Plavilstshikov, 1936).  相似文献

Abstract

On the basis of the protologue, the name Sphagnum nemoreum Scop. is treated as a nomen dubium and consequently is rejected. S. capillifolium (Ehrh.) Hedw. is lectotypified through a Dillenius specimen, and is proposed to be adopted as the correct name of this species.  相似文献

The Ocean Cockle Fishery is a small fishery in southern New South Wales targeting three bivalve species: Eucrassatella kingicola; Glycymeris grayana; and Callista (Notocallista) kingii. The fishery currently consists of a single licensed fisher harvesting a defined patch of seabed but has been identified as potentially able to support expansion. All target species have unknown population dynamics and life histories, and the degree to which expansion can be supported is therefore also unknown. We used internal growth marks in cross sections of shell to determine ages from the commercial catch. The assumption that the alternating bands represent seasonal variations in growth rate was validated by laser ablation induction-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS), a small tag-recapture program and preliminary marginal increment analysis. Mean length-at-age was modelled using the von Bertalanffy growth equation. Callista kingii (L?=?43.8, K?=?0.43) grew substantially faster to a smaller maximum size than E. kingicola (L?=?70.0, K?=?0.18) and G. grayana (L?=?54.3, K?=?0.20). These growth characteristics may explain anecdotal observations that C. kingii has increased in relative abundance in recent catches and is relatively rare in unfished areas while E. kingicola in particular has declined in mean size and abundance.  相似文献

Summary

The identity of a recent Scottish collection thought to be Boletopsis leucomelaena was examined with the help of molecular techniques. This poroid fungus proved to be a new species of Boletopsis differing from the European species occurring with Pinus sylvestris, which should continue to be called B. grisea. The new name Boletopsis peplexa is introduced for all the Scottish collections with Pinus sylvestris.  相似文献

The type of Paralychnophora bicolor was found to represent another species recently described as P. santosii. The misapplication of the name P. bicolor is reviewed. Also, a new species is here proposed, P. glaziouana, for plants previously identified as P. bicolor, since the only available name, P. schwackei, is an illegitimate combination. A key to Paralychnophora is given.  相似文献

Abstract

Hymenostylium xerophilum is described as a new species from the European Alps. Molecular rps4 and ITS data support its recognition and elucidate its affinities to other species of the tribe Pleuroweisieae. It is closely related to H. gracillimum, comb. nov., which is based on the old and neglected Gymnostomum gracillimum, which replaces the recent name G. boreale. Both species share non-coloured to pale yellowish-brown rhizoids, stem central strand and indistinct sclerodermis, keeled leaves, and concave laminae in abaxial view. They differ from each other in leaf shape and several essentially quantitative characters. Sporophytes have never been found in H. xerophilum, but they are known from several localities in H. gracillimum. The former colonizes rather dry, sunny to half-shaded calcareous rocks, whereas the latter needs moist and shaded rock habitats and shows a preference for subneutral slate. At present, H. xerophilum is known only from the Alps (Austria, and a single site in Germany), where it is rather widespread in calcareous regions. H. gracillimum seems to be a distinctly rarer plant, to date known only from eight Austrian sites and one locality in Russian Karelia. Other published records under the name G. boreale have been wrongly attributed to this species. Lectotypes are designated for G. gracillimum and Gyroweisia acutifolia. A key to Hymenostylium and the genera of Pleuroweisieae in Europe is presented.

Thicker rhizoids of both species are covered with a thick, non-coloured protective layer and filled with oil-droplets and leucoplasts. They represent a subterranean secondary protonema, which plays an important role in the survival and propagation of these mosses, vital especially in the case of the non-sporulating H. xerophilum.  相似文献

Blepharidachne is a disjunct American genus with four species:B. kingii (S. Wats.) Hackel (Great Basin of western U.S.A.) andB. bigelovii (S. Wats.) Hackel (Coahuila, Mexico and Texas, U.S.A.) in North America;B. benthamiana (Hackel) A. S. Hitchc. andB. hitchcockii Lahitte, both in central and western Argentina.Blepharidachne kingii is the only species with perfect flowers, the other three being monoecious as a result of a series of reductive processes. After a discussion of these morphological peculiarities, heretofore overlooked, the article is completed with a brief taxonomic synopsis of the genus.  相似文献

Abstract

A new species, Racomitrium patagonicum Bednarek-Ochyra &; Ochyra, is described from southern South America. A herbarium name, R. senile Schimp. in A. Jaeger, is considered synonymous with R. patagonicum and confusion associated with its interpretation is explained. The new species belongs to the type subgenus of Racomitrium and is closely alied to R. lanuginosum (Hedw.) Brid. from which it differs by the very long and broadly decurrent, ruffled or wavy margins of the hyaline hair-point, broadly canaliculate leaves and dull green, strongly papillose laminal cells. Grimmia glacialis Müll. Hal., hom. illeg. (=Racomitrium glaciale Kindb.) from South Georgia is typified and this name is considered synonymous with Racomitrium lanuginosum subsp. lanuginosum. Distribution of the new species is mapped. A key to species of Racomitrium subg. Racomitrium is provided.  相似文献
