Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is considered to be the most economically important pest insect worldwide. The invasive variant, the Q biotype of B. tabaci was first identified in 2004, and has caused significant crop yield losses in Japan. The distribution and molecular characterization of the different biotypes of B. tabaci in Japan have been little investigated. In this study, B. tabaci populations were sampled from the Japanese Archipelago, the Amami Archipelago and the Ryukyu Islands between 2004 and 2008, and the nucleotide sequences of their mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I genes were determined. Bayesian phylogenetic relationship analysis provided the first molecular evidence that the indigenous Japanese populations could be separated into four distinct genetic groups. One major native population from the Japanese Archipelago, given the genetic group name Lonicera japonica, was separated into an independent group, distinct from the other genetic groups. The second major population, the Nauru biotype in the Asia II genetic group, was identified in the Amami Archipelago and the Ryukyu Islands. Two distinct minor genetic groups, the Asia I and the China, were also identified. One invasive B‐related population belonging to the Mediterranean/Asia Minor/Africa genetic group has been identified in Honshu. All lineages generated by the phylogenetic analyses were supported by high posterior probabilities. These distinct indigenous B. tabaci populations developed in Japan under geographical and/or biological isolation, prior to recent invasions of the B and Q biotypes.  相似文献

Genetic relationships in a natural Japanese population of Pleurocybella porrigens were determined based on ITS sequence data. In a UPGMA similarity tree, all sequences of 23 specimens from 13 different geographic origins were grouped into two distinct clusters (groups A and B). Sequence variation of the ITS region between groups A and B consisted of 33–40 nucleotides, corresponding to 5%–6% of their total length, and specific nucleotide variations characterizing groups A and B were found. Although these results did not show correlation with differences of substrates for fruiting and geographic origins of the specimens, it was suggested that P. porrigens distributed in Japan include at least two genetically different populations. Synopsis The genetic and morphological features ofGasterosteus aculeatus were investigated for 29 populations around Japan. Allozyme analyses recognized two groups (Pacific Ocean group and Japan Sea group) that had distinct characteristic features, and showed high genetic differentiation between them (D = 0.482). The Pacific Ocean group had a wide range, from North America to Japan, along the Pacific coast. The distribution of the Japan Sea group was limited around the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. The distribution of these groups were found to be sympatric on the Pacific coast of Hokkaido Island, Japan. From this area, genetic analyses demonstrated that the sympatric populations of the two groups formed independent breeding stocks, and it is considered that the two groups were reproductively isolated from each other. Additionally, each group had distinctive morphological features of lateral plates and caudal keels in the sympatric area. These results suggested that these two groups of the threespine stickleback comprise different species and that the Japan Sea group is taxonomically distinguishable fromG. aculeatus.  相似文献

A taxonomic review of the cottid genus Cottiusculus Jordan and Starks 1904 established three species, C. nihonkaiensis sp. nov., C. schmidti, and C. gonez. Cottiusculus nihonkaiensis sp. nov., which had been previously confused with C. schmidti, is described on the basis of 32 specimens (44.8–77.9 mm, SL) collected from the Sea of Japan. The new species is very similar to C. schmidti in having a curved barbless uppermost preopercular spine and the lateral line extending past the caudal fin base, but is distinguishable as follows: nasal spines simple or sometimes weakly bicuspid (vs. deeply bicuspid in C. schmidti); first dorsal fin not elongated in either males or females (vs. elongated in males); ventral lateral and lateral line cirri present (vs. absent). The former is known from the Sea of Japan coasts of Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and the Korean Peninsula, and Volcano Bay, Hokkaido, and the latter from the Pacific coast of Tohoku District, Japan. Cottiusculus gonez, known from the Sea of Japan, Sea of Okhotsk and Pacific coast of Hokkaido, is characterized by having a simple nasal spine, the uppermost preopercular spine almost straight with two small cusps dorsally, posterior cusp barbed, and the lateral line almost reaching to the caudal fin base. A lectotype of C. gonez is designated here. Sequence differences in the cytochrome b gene among the above three species of Cottiusculus are also presented.  相似文献

To clarify the diversity of Astraeus in Japan, 35 collections of Astraeus basidiomata from Japan and Thailand were examined for their morphological characteristics and the nucleotide sequences of the rDNA ITS region and compared with several worldwide Astraeus species. Japanese Astraeus specimens were separated into two groups based on basidiome size, shape of exoperidium, and ornamentation and size of basidiospores. The phylogenetic tree analyses supported the separation, and the morphological groups belonged to different clades. The Japanese Astraeus group 1, morphologically matched to Astraeus hygromerticus var. koreanus, showed the closest phylogenetic relationship with Astraeus hygrometricus from North American and Mediterranean regions, suggesting that the Astraeus group 1 can be indentified as A. hygrometricus var. koreanus. Another Astraeus group, group 2, morphologically matched to A. hygrometricus s.l., showed a distinct monophyletic clade that was separated from A. hygrometricus complexes, indicating an undescribed species.  相似文献

Uromyces appendiculatus, inclusive of three varieties, is distinguished from U. vignae primarily by the position of urediniospore germ pores and putative host specificity. However, opinions concerning these morphological and physiological features as taxonomic characters have varied greatly, and distinction of these species has often been confused. To clarify the taxonomy of these two species, morphological features of urediniospores and teliospores of 225 rust fungus specimens on species of Phaseolus, Vigna, Apios, Lablab, and Dunbaria were examined by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Forty-five specimens were subjected to molecular phylogenetic analyses. As a result, the position of germ pores in urediniospores and the teliospore-wall thickness were considered as good characters to separate three morphological groups. In molecular analyses, the specimens fell into two and three clades based on the nucleotide sequence at D1/D2 domain of LSU rDNA and ITS regions, respectively. One of the D1/D2 clades corresponded to one morphological group whereas another D1/D2 clade included two other morphological groups. In contrast, each of the three ITS clades corresponded to a separate morphological group. Neither morphological groups nor molecular clades were host limited. The Careproctus rastrinus species complex, widely known from the North Pacific, has been revealed recently to include nine genetically divergent groups on the basis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variations. Herein we describe an AFLP analysis that focuses on three closely related groups in order to clarify the evolutionary history of the species complex in the Sea of Japan and off the Pacific coast of Japan. A principal coordinate analysis indicated the absence of nuclear divergence in two groups defined by mtDNA variations in the Sea of Japan, whereas another group from the Pacific coast of northern Japan was clearly distinct. This suggests extensive gene flow between two groups in the Sea of Japan as a result of secondary contact.  相似文献

Genetic variation of the white-spotted longicorn beetle Anoplophora spp., distributed on the Japanese mainland and the Ryukyu Islands, was examined using nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial DNA. Two fragments, a 1.2-kb-long fragment containing portions of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I and II genes and a 1.4-kb-long fragment containing portions of 16S and 12S rDNAs, were sequenced. In phylogenetic analyses based on the sequences, 294 individuals collected at 75 localities were divided into two major groups (groups A and B) and then split into seven subgroups (A1–A4 and B1–B3). In group A, the closely related subgroups A1, A2, and A3 were mainly distributed on the Japanese mainland and were roughly separated among geographic areas, although the range of A3 spread significantly from Kyushu to the Central Ryukyu Islands. The sequence of A4, detected from one individual collected in eastern Honshu, was almost the same as that reported for A. chinensis (Forster) on the Chinese continent. In group B, subgroups B1 and B2 were restricted to the Central and Southern Ryukyu Islands, respectively, while B3 was distributed widely in both regions. Based on the results, we discuss the geographic origin of the haplotypes and movement of the insects between geographic areas.  相似文献

The bathyal genus Penopus (Ophidiidae) is revised based on 23 specimens. One specimen from the Ryukyu Trench represents a new species, Penopus japonicus. The remaining 22 specimens were found on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, and neither 28 meristic and morphometric characters nor several morphological characters show any differences between the two populations. This supports Séret (1988), who considered Penopus macdonaldi Goode and Bean 1896 a junior synonym of Penopus microphthalmus (Vaillant 1888). The new Japanese species can be separated from the Atlantic species by having fewer rays in the dorsal (117 vs. 135–158) and anal (89 vs. 106–122) fins, the squamation of the head restricted to the middle part of the preopercle versus the squamation covering the dorsum, preopercle and the opercle in part, a distinct spine behind the posterior nostril versus the spine hardly visible and 9 spines on the hind margin of the preopercle versus 4–7 spines.  相似文献

Reinstatement of Myelophycus caespitosus Kjellman (Ectocarpales s.l., Phaeophyceae) described from western Japan is proposed based on the comparisons of DNA sequences of Japanese Myelophycus specimens, the type specimen of Chordaria simplex and lectotypified specimen of Myelophycus caespitosus. In the genetic analyses using mitochondrial cox1 and cox3, chloroplast atpB, psbA and rbcL DNA sequences, the specimens morphologically referable to M. simplex formed two distinct clades (clade‐1 and clade‐2) supported by high statistical values. Clade‐1 was distributed on the western coast of Japan (Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu) from the Kii Peninsula to Tsushima and the Pacific coast of Aomori, northeastern Honshu, and clade‐2 on the Pacific coast of central Honshu from Sanriku to the Kii Peninsula. Based on the cox3 DNA sequences and the location of the type locality at Shimoda, Izu Peninsula, clade‐2 was concluded to correspond to true M. simplex. There were no recognizable differences in the representative morphological features (height and diameter of sporophytes and gametophytes, number of cells comprising cortical, subcortical and medullary layers, thickness of plurilocular gametangia, or length and diameter of unilocular zoidangia) between the specimens included in the two taxa. Analyses of the specimens of the two taxa, including sympatric populations on the Kii Peninsula, using a nuclear genetic marker ocm3 did not suggest any genetic exchanges between the two taxa. On the other hand, cox3 gene sequence of the voucher specimen of Myelophycus caespitosus collected from Goto, Kyushu, western Japan housed in the UPS herbarium was included in clade‐1. In conclusion, we propose the reinstatement of M. caespitosus and to lectotypify the specimen in UPS. Korean Myelophycus specimens reported from Cheju Island and Wando were considered to belong to M. caespitosus based on the reported rbcL sequences.  相似文献

The anterior half of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene (ca. 650bp) was compared for two color-morphs (dotted and lined types) of the orange-lined cardinalfish, previously identified as Apogon properuptus. Twelve and nine specimens, respectively, of dotted and lined types were collected from four and three localities along the coasts of southern Japan and the Ryukyu Islands, specimens of both color-morphs being collected from one of these localities on the southern coast of the Shikoku Island. Phylogenetic analyses using maximum parsimony (MP) and neighbor-joining (NJ) methods, with haplotypes of A. semilineatus and A. cyanosoma as an outgroup and comparative OTU, respectively, showed that the haplotypes of each color-morph were reciprocally monophyletic with 100% bootstrap values. These results, together with their distinct coloration and partly overlapping geographical ranges, indicated that the two color-morphs of A. properuptus from Japanese waters represent two distinct species.  相似文献

The genetic population structure and the diagnostic characters of Malacocottus gibber from the Japan Sea and Malacocottus zonurus from the Okhotsk Sea and the northwestern Pacific were compared. Analysis of the nucleotide sequences of the mitochondrial control region revealed no genetic differences between the populations of M. gibber and M. zonurus, even though most individuals of both the species were found to be morphologically distinct. Most of the Malacocottus gibber specimens had the typical morphological characters of this species, namely the absence of an accessory spine on the preopercle of both sides and the absence of modified body scales above the lateral line. All the specimens of M. zonurus had accessory spines on both sides, and most of them had modified body scales. The results of this study suggest that M. gibber should be treated as a subspecies or a synonym of M. zonurus. The nested clade analysis and the analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that the Japanese Malacocottus fishes are genetically homogenous over their geographical range. The mismatch distribution of the Japanese Malacocottus fishes indicated that a sudden population expansion had occurred recently. The contrast in phylogeographic structures between the Malacocottus fish and the zoarcid Bothrocara hollandi—the most dominant deep-sea demersal fish in the Japan Sea—might be attributed to the differences in the depths of the habitats and larval ecology between these two fishes.  相似文献

Among five species of the genus Plocamium Lamouroux distributed around Japan, P. cartilagineum (Linnaeus) Dixon, P. recurvatum Okamura and P. telfairiae (Hooker and Harvey) Harvey are often difficult to distinguish morphologically from each other. Our previous study demonstrated that P. recurvatum and P. telfairiae were divided into two groups, A and C, based on RUBISCO spacer sequence and that the specimens belonging to group C had acidic cell saps. In this study, we inferred evolutionary relationships of these Plocamium species from internal transcribed spacer sequence of the ribosomal RNA genes and obtained a similar topology to the RUBISCO spacer tree. Color of the dried specimens in the acidic group C was darker red than that in the non‐acidic group A, although there was no difference in color in living thalli. The Br? concentration in the cell sap of the acidic group C was 20 times higher than that of the non‐acidic group. We could not find any morphological differences to distinguish clearly between groups A and C despite exhaustive investigation of field‐collected and cultured thalli in both P. recurvatum and P. telfairiae. These results suggest that the color of dried specimens and the composition of intracellular inorganic ions are significant criteria for interpreting phylogenetic relationships in Japanese Plocamium spp.  相似文献

The systematics of the eelpout genus Bothrocara Bean 1890 is reviewed on the basis of 941 specimens. Eight mostly eurybathic, demersal species are recognized, distributed mainly along the continental slopes of the North and South Pacific oceans, with one species entering the South Atlantic. Distributions are: B. brunneum ranges from the Sea of Okhotsk to the Gulf of Panama at depths of 199–1,829 m; B. elongatum ranges from the Gulf of Panama to Chile at depths of 720–1,866 m; B. hollandi ranges from the Sea of Japan to the southeastern Bering Sea at depths of 150–1,980 m; B. molle ranges from the western Bering Sea to the South Atlantic at depths of 106–2,688 m; B. nyx is known only from the eastern Bering Sea at depths of 790–1,508 m; B. pusillum ranges from the northern Bering Sea to British Columbia, Canada, at depths of 55–642 m; B. tanakae is found along the northern coasts of Honshu and Hokkaido islands, Japan, at depths of 274–892 m; B. zestum ranges from the Izu Islands, Japan, and central Honshu, Japan, to the Gulf of Alaska at depths of 199–1,620 m (an unidentifiable specimen from off Taiwan may be B. zestum). The species are distinguished from one another mainly on the basis of head pore patterns, gill raker morphology, coloration and various meristic and morphometric values. Threeline grunt (Parapristipoma trilineatum) distributes around the southwestern coast of Japan and the east coast of China. The Chinese P. trilineatum was imported by Japan as an aquacultural seed because of its rapid growth compared with that of the Japanese P. trilineatum. The Japanese P. trilineatum differs from the Chinese P. trilineatum in some quantitative traits, and it has been suggested that these two P. trilineatum populations are genetically different. In order to identify the population structures around Japan and China, 5 local populations of the Japanese P. trilineatum and 2 local populations of the Chinese P. trilineatum were analyzed using 4 microsatellite DNA markers. Significant differences were detected between Japanese and Chinese P. trilineatum and among samples of Chinese P. trilineatum; however, among the samples of Japanese P. trilineatum, no significant differences were detected. These results suggest that care must be taken to prevent the escape of the Chinese P. trilineatum from culture cages around the Japanese coast, in order to preserve the genetically different population structures of Japanese and Chinese P. trilineatum.  相似文献

A new species of Neopetitia San Martín, 2003 is described from intertidal and shallow subtidal soft-bottom stations on the eastern and western coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands. The new species is characterized by the presence in males of a modified acicular chaeta in chaetiger 11. A discussion of known species of the genus is presented.  相似文献

The myrophine ophichthid fishes (worm eels) Muraenichthys aoki Jordan and Snyder 1901 and Muraenichthys gymnotus Bleeker 1857 are redescribed as valid species of Scolecenchelys based on the types and non-type specimens collected from the Indo-Pacific. Because both species are similar to each other in having acute snouts, the posterior margin of the eye before the rictus, and their dorsal-fin origins located slightly posterior to a vertical line through the anus, Scolecenchelys aoki has usually been regarded as a junior synonym of Scolecenchelys gymnota. However, S. aoki is clearly distinguishable from S. gymnota by having a median groove on the ventral side of snout (absent in S. gymnota), uniserial maxillary teeth in smaller specimens (<200 mm TL; vs. biserial), three infraorbital sensory pores at postorbital area (vs. two), and more numerous vertebrae (56–65 in predorsal vs. 51–57; 53–58 in preanal vs. 47–52). Scolecenchelys aoki is restricted to Japanese waters and regarded as a senior synonym of Muraenichthys borealis Machida and Shiogaki 1990. Scolecenchelys gymnota is widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific, from South Africa and the Red Sea to Samoa, north to Okinawa, Japan. Sphagebranchus huysmani Weber 1913 and Muraenichthys fowleri Schultz 1943 are synonymized under S. gymnota.  相似文献

A new species of the Macrochironidae Humes & Boxshall, 1996 (Copepoda: Cyclopoida), Pseudomacrochiron aureliae n. sp., is described based on adult specimens extracted from the gastrovacular cavity of the scyphistomae of Aurelia sp. (Cnidaria: Scyphozoa) collected in the Seto Inland Sea and Ise Bay off the coast of Japan. The new species differs from its congeners by having the following combination of characters: a caudal ramus with a length to width ratio of 3.1; an accessory flagellum on caudal setae II, III and VI; three apical setae on the maxillule; only setae I and II on the maxillary basis; two short spines on the female maxilliped claw (endopod); an armature of III, I, 4 on the terminal exopodal segment of leg 3; an armature of I, II, 2 on the terminal endopodal segment of leg 3; an armature of II, I, 4 on the terminal exopodal segment of leg 4; and a short free exopodal segment of leg 5 (length to width ratio of 1.4) armed with a long seta and short spine. P. aureliae n. sp. is the first member of the genus reported from off Japan and from the scyphistomae of its scyphozoan host.  相似文献
