Every year since 2007, the Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference (CEEPC) has excelled in representing state-of-the-art proteomics in and around Central and Eastern Europe, and linking it to international institutions worldwide. Its mission remains to contribute to all approaches of proteomics including traditional and often-revisited methodologies as well as the latest technological achievements in clinical, quantitative and structural proteomics with a view to systems biology of a variety of processes. The 9th CEEPC was held from June 15th to 18th, 2015, at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, Poland. The scientific program stimulated exchange of proteomic knowledge whilst the spectacular venue of the conference allowed participants to enjoy the cobblestoned historical city of Poznań.  相似文献

The Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference (CEEPC) successfully launched its second decade of proteomics in Ko?ice, Slovakia with a program of systems biology, cellular, clinical, veterinary and sports proteomics. Whilst many conferences are struggling to attract participants, CEEPC with its outstanding track record and unique ‘family – feel’ packaged with excellent ambiance is thriving and bringing together proteomics experts from academia, industry, scientific specialties, clinics and precision medicine communities interested in resolving mysteries about protein functionalities in health and disease. CEEPC is also renowned for addressing humanitarian global healthcare issues, may it be ageing, chronic diseases or global epidemics. This year CEEPC intertwined with Ko?ice Peace Marathon’s pursuit of excellence in sports and initiatives including sports medicine and global peace.  相似文献

As Romanians prepared to celebrate 100 years of the '‘Great Unification of 1918?' which united all provinces into one Romania, the 12th Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference (CEEPC) jointly with the 39th Anniversary of the Institute of Cellular Biology and Pathology '‘N. Simionescu’' (ICBP-NS), held their inaugural meeting at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest – a national forum of highest scientific recognition. With an exciting theme entitled, ‘Advances in Proteomics and Progress in Precision Medicine’, delegates gathered to debate Precision medicine’s revolution in diagnosis and treatment, which now accounts for predictive, preventative, and targeted treatment strategies with informed decisions according to individual’s unique clinical, molecular and genetic profile. Proteomics has a pivotal role to play in furthering precision health and medicine for the benefit of mankind. To this end, CEEPC continues to drive advances in proteomics, metabolomics, and diseases as well as raising awareness of pressing global humanitarian and health-care issues including mental health diseases, aging, chronic diseases, global epidemics and environmental issues. Today, CEEPC is a well-recognized major annual conference with a focused vision and a highly valued ideology as it continues to propagate scientific, medical and proteomic collaborations whilst expanding as more Eastern European countries prepare to join.  相似文献

More than 130 delegates from all over the world attended the 1(st) Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference organized together with the 3(rd) Czech Proteomic Conference in the TOP Hotel, Prague in the Czech Republic from 29(th) to 31(st) October, 2007. The autumn nostalgia of the historical city of Prague provided the stage for a fascinating meeting that reviewed rapidly emerging proteomic research in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and focused on proteomics driven discovery and applications.  相似文献

The emerging power of new technologies in proteomics and the biological sciences to alter the human condition demands that scientists hold a new perspective on the social responsibilities of their research. Ethical theory can help scientists recognize not only those research projects that are harmful, but also those research paths that can create the greatest improvements in human health on a global scale. Whereas individual choices are important for the direction of scientific research, these choices may have limited social effects if they are not coordinated with larger institutional and inter-institutional structures. The perspective presented here calls for the Human Proteome Organization to recognize the ten most ethically significant proteomes to be characterized, with the hopes of rallying support and directing the research efforts of scientists in the proteomics community toward these goals.  相似文献

The third Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference was held at Hotel Benzcur, Budapest, Hungary, from the 6–9 October 2009. The meeting was the third in a series of proteomic conferences to be held in this region of Europe, with the key aim of strengthening the links with scientists from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as international groups worldwide. It was attended by more than 150 delegates from various countries and many proteomic topics, including biomarker discovery, post-translational modifications, clinical proteomics, as well as new proteomic technologies, which may facilitate future progress, were discussed over the 3 days.  相似文献

The variable, often dramatic, upsurge in tick-borne encephalitis in Central and Eastern Europe can best be understood as the result of a multi-factorial system of causes, including abiotic and biotic environmental changes, and human behaviour determined by socio-economic conditions. When the human genome project was conceived, its leaders wanted all researchers to have equal access to the data and associated research tools. Their vision of equal access provides an unprecedented teaching opportunity. Teachers and students have free access to the same databases that researchers are using. Furthermore, the recent movement to deliver scientific publications freely has presented a second source of current information for teaching. I have developed a genomics course that incorporates many of the public-domain databases, research tools, and peer-reviewed journals. These online resources provide students with exciting entree into the new fields of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. In this essay, I outline how these fields are especially well suited for inclusion in the undergraduate curriculum. Assessment data indicate that my students were able to utilize online information to achieve the educational goals of the course and that the experience positively influenced their perceptions of how they might contribute to biology.  相似文献

The advent of genomics, proteomics, and microarray technology has brought much excitement to science, both in teaching and in learning. The public is eager to know about the processes of life. In the present context of the explosive growth of scientific information, a major challenge of modern cell biology is to popularize basic concepts of structures and functions of living cells, to introduce people to the scientific method, to stimulate inquiry, and to analyze and synthesize concepts and paradigms. In this essay we present our experience in mixing science and education in Brazil. For two decades we have developed activities for the science education of teachers and undergraduate students, using microscopy images generated by our work as cell biologists. We describe open-air outreach education activities, games, cell modeling, and other practical and innovative activities presented in public squares and favelas. Especially in developing countries, science education is important, since it may lead to an improvement in quality of life while advancing understanding of traditional scientific ideas. We show that teaching and research can be mutually beneficial rather than competing pursuits in advancing these goals.  相似文献

The human respiratory system represents a vital but vulnerable system. It is a major target for many diseases such as cancer and asthma. The incidence of these diseases has increased dramatically in the last 40-50 years. In the search for possible new therapies, many experimental tools and methods have been developed to study these diseases, ranging from animal models to in vitro studies. In the last decades, genomic and proteomic approaches have gained a lot of attention. After the major scientific breakthroughs in the field of genomics, it is now widely accepted that to understand biological processes, large-scale protein studies through proteomics techniques are required. In the battle against lung cancer, the proteomics approach has already been successfully implemented. Surprisingly, only a few proteomics studies on the ever-increasing global asthma problem have been published so far. And although proteomics also has its limitations and experimental difficulties, in our opinion, proteomics can definitely contribute to the understanding of a complex disease such as asthma. Therefore, the additional values and possibilities of proteomics in asthma research should be thoroughly investigated. A close collaboration between the different scientific disciplines may eventually lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies against asthma.  相似文献

2019年底暴发并席卷全球的新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情已经成为需要世界各国共同努力克服的全球重大卫生安全挑战。当前,中国已基本控制国内新冠肺炎疫情,并在疫情相关科学研究及公共卫生产品研发方面取得重大进展,同时加强了与“一带一路”参与国家开展国际科技合作。对中国与“一带一路”参与国家抗击新冠肺炎疫情的基础研究合作、国际科技合作项目等方面进行梳理,可以看到:中国与“一带一路”参与国家形成了领域交叉、节点多样的复杂合作网络,并主要与东南亚、中东欧和西亚各国合作密切;中国与“一带一路”参与国家的科研机构已在防控、流行病学和治疗等领域展开了大量实质研究,合作关系更偏向援助型合作。未来应加强与“一带一路”参与国家的生物技术产业合作与技术转移,发挥“一带一路”区域支点国家的示范效应等方面构建与“一带一路”参与国家更丰富、紧密、务实的科技合作关系。  相似文献

Although proteomics has been exploited in a wide range of diseases for identification of biomarkers and pathophysiological mechanisms, there are still biomedical disciplines such as otology where proteomics platforms are underused due to technical challenges and/or complex features of the disease. Thus, in the past few years, healthcare and scientific agencies have advocated the development and adoption of proteomic technologies in otological research. However, few studies have been conducted and limited literature is available in this area. Here, we present the state of the art of proteomics in otology, discussing the substantial evidence from recent experimental models and clinical studies in inner-ear conditions. We also delineate a series of critical issues including minute size of the inner ear, delicacy and poor accessibility of tissue that researchers face while undertaking otology proteomics research. Furthermore, we provide perspective to enhance the impact and lead to the clinical implementation of these proteomics-based strategies.  相似文献

The rapidly growing number of biomedical studies supported by mass spectrometry based quantitative proteomics data has made it increasingly difficult to obtain an overview of the current status of the research field. A better way of organizing the biomedical proteomics information from these studies and making it available to the research community is therefore called for. In the presented work, we have investigated scientific publications describing the analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid proteome in relation to multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Based on a detailed set of filtering criteria we extracted 85 data sets containing quantitative information for close to 2000 proteins. This information was made available in CSF-PR 2.0 (http://probe.uib.no/csf-pr-2.0), which includes novel approaches for filtering, visualizing and comparing quantitative proteomics information in an interactive and user-friendly environment. CSF-PR 2.0 will be an invaluable resource for anyone interested in quantitative proteomics on cerebrospinal fluid.  相似文献

The Finnish Proteomics Society, FinnProt ( www.finnprot.org ), was founded in November 2004 as the Proteomics Division of the Societas biochemica, biophysica et microbiologica Fenniae ( www.biobio.org ). The mission of FinnProt is to make proteomics research readily available for the large scientific community in Finland, promote research and education in proteomics and protein chemistry, and act as the official Finnish collaborative body to international proteomics organizations such as the European Proteomics Association.  相似文献

This is a review on benthic algae from streams situated above the tree line in the Alps. It integrates published and unpublished data from alpine streams in Austria and in the Trento Province (Northern Italy). The main focus is on the structural and taxonomic composition of benthic algae including macro- and micro-algae and their contribution to the epilithic biofilm and the stream food-web. The environmental conditions relevant to algae within the two major stream types, the glacial (glacier-fed) and non-glacial krenal (spring-fed) stream are discussed. The paper considers both the maximum possible structural complexity of transverse algae zonation in cascading alpine/subalpine stream segments, and the effects of glacial water on species richness in the Central Alps in Austria. Autecological data are given for 46 common diatoms from 42 sites in the Central Eastern and Southern Central Alps and for 30 algae in addition to diatoms for 22 streams in the Central Eastern Alps. Since data on responses of benthic algae to the harsh conditions in high altitude Alpine streams are very scarce, results from literature and the author’s experiences from these and other mountain stream types are synthesized to formulate major objectives for future research in benthic high altitude Alpine stream ecology.  相似文献
