A new lyginopterid pollen organ is described based upon specimens occurring in a single coal ball from the Providence, Kentucky locality. Seven to nine beaked sporangia are fused together at their proximal ends forming a common synangial chamber; synangia are joined together in clusters of two or three. In situ prepollen is similar to Cyclogranisporites and Verrucosisporites sporae dispersae. The thick exine has a lamellate nexine and a prominent alveolate sexine.  相似文献

松香草(Silphium perfoliatum L.)为原产北美洲的多年生宿根草本植物,由于其地上部分有较高的蛋白质含量,近年来被引入我国作为一种有发展前途的饲料作物进行栽培,除了报道过体细胞染色体研究结果,该物种尚缺少系统的细胞学研究。最近,我们对其小孢子母细胞减数分裂和雄配子体发育过程进行了细胞学观察,并发现了一些异常形态的花粉,现将初步观察结果报道如下。1.材料与方法松香草不同的植株间开花期相差很大。用于观察的花序取自三年生植株。根据花序外部大小,上午11时同时取一系列大小不等的花序固定,重复取材3次。材料以卡诺液(冰醋酸:纯酒精=1:3)固定过夜,次日转于70%酒精中置冰箱内保存备用。细胞学制片用常规压片法。丙酸-水合氯醛-铁矾苏木精染色,临时制片以凡士林封  相似文献

The sporopollenin of pollen exines of Ambrosia trifida is soluble in fused potassium hydroxide, in strong oxidizing solutions, and in certain organic bases. It is insoluble in other organic and inorganic acids and bases, in lipid solvents, and in detergents. The outer exine layer of gymnosperm and angiosperm pollen dissolves in 2-aminoethanol. The inner exine layer, as well as the exine of pteridophyte spores, is insoluble. The exine dissolution process in 2-aminoethanol involves swelling and disintegration of exine structures, leaving some residual globules. Sporopollenin shares some solubility properties with lignin and cutin but appears to be chemically distinct from these substances.  相似文献

Pollen grains placed within longitudinal cuts in styles germinate and produce pollen tubes which grow equally well towards the stigma or the ovary. If there are simultaneous stigmatic pollinations, the growth of the intrastylar pollen tubes toward the stigma is significantly impeded. This observation indicates the presence of an influence which may or may not be related to pollen tube tropism, one which is inducible rather than constitutive.  相似文献

Illus. 1961.—Fresh pollen samples and chemically fossilized pollen samples were fixed in either potassium permanganate or osmium tetroxide and some sectioned material was poststained in an effort to demonstrate the various wall components existing in pollen of P. aculeata. The exine was observed to be consistently 2-layered with the layers corresponding to the endexine and ektexine demonstrated with basic fuchsin staining by optical microscopy. The exine also contained an extensive system of internal channels. Aperture membranes contained laminate-globulate fine structure, and this has been interpreted as a modification for the maintenance of membrane continuity through changes in pollen grain volume.  相似文献

To determine the effects of soil nitrogen on pollen production, pollen size, and pollen performance, two cultivars of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) were grown under two nitrogen regimes in an experimental garden. The two cultivars were true breeding for alternative alleles for a one gene trait, ovary color. The soil nitrogen treatment had a significant effect on most measures of reproductive output through the female function. The nitrogen treatment did not affect the number of staminate flowers per plant but did have an effect on the number of pollen grains per staminate flower and the mean pollen grain size. A pollen mixture experiment revealed that pollen produced by plants in the high nitrogen treatment sired significantly more seeds than pollen from low nitrogen plants. Moreover, we found that the high nitrogen pollen sired even a greater percentage of seeds in the region of the fruit (ovary) previously shown to be fertilized by the fastest growing pollen tubes. Thus, the difference in the number of seeds sired by pollen from the two nitrogen treatments is due to differences in pollen performance. We conclude that spatial heterogeneity in soil nitrogen can influence the paternity of seeds in a plant population.  相似文献

脱外壁花粉的分离与人工萌发已在芸苔属(Brassica L.)中取得成功。由于其缺乏外壁与萌发沟这一特点,脱外壁花粉是研究花粉萌发的有用的实验系统。作者重点研究了脱外壁花粉分离与萌发过程中有关极性形成、萌发位点预定及新壁的合成等问题。结果表明在外壁脱离之前花粉已经活化并预先建立了极性;脱外壁后的萌发位点仍位于原萌发沟处;在萌发位点处合成的新壁可能起限定花粉管直径的作用。由此推论,脱外壁花粉可在花粉生物学研究中广泛加以应用。  相似文献

Photomicrographs of normal and aberrant Polymnia (Compositae) pollen were made with the scanning electron microscope and with the light microscope. Anomalous pollen forms from F1 hybrids of P. maculata Cav. are compared to the parental type and to the closely related P. uvedalia (L.) L. Among the variations discussed are differences in size and form, fused aggregates, and reduction in length of spines. The cause of these variations is unknown, although similar anomalies were later found in a single P. maculata parent, Wells No. 740, which grew under similar standard greenhouse conditions.  相似文献

Brewbaker, James L., and Beyoung H. Kwack. (U. Hawaii, Honolulu.) The essential role of calcium ion in pollen germination and pollen tube growth. Amer. Jour. Bot. 50(9): 859–865. Illus. 1963.—A pollen population effect occurs whenever pollen grains are grown in vitro. Small pollen populations germinate and grow poorly if at all, under conditions which support excellent growth of large pollen populations. The pollen population effect is overcome completely by a growth factor obtained in water extracts of many plant tissues. This factor is shown to be the calcium ion, and its action confirmed in 86 species representing 39 plant families. Other ions (K+, Mg++, Na+) serve in supporting roles to the uptake or binding of calcium. The high requirement of calcium (300–5000 ppm, as Ca (NO3)2·4H2O, for optimum growth) and low calcium content of most pollen may conspire to give calcium a governing role in the growth of pollen tubes both in vitro and in situ. It is suspected that ramifications of this role extend to the self-incompatibilities of plants and to the curious types of arrested tube growth distinguishing, for example, the orchids. A culture medium which proved its merit in a wide variety of pollen growth studies included, in distilled water, 10% sucrose, 100 ppm H3BO3, 300 ppm Ca (NO3)2·4H2O, 200 ppm MgSO4·7H2O and 100 ppm KNO3.  相似文献
