The three most abundant and species-rich genera of erpobdellid leeches – Erpobdella, Dina and Trocheta – have traditionally been distinguished by their annulation pattern. Erpobdella has five unsubdivided annuli per somite, in Dina the last annulus is widened and subdivided once, and in Trocheta, the last and often also the first annulus is further subdivided. The last two genera are often referred to as the subfamily Trochetinae. The presented molecular phylogenetic analysis, based on mitochondrial 12S rDNA sequences and nuclear ITS2 sequences, has revealed a sister relationship between Trocheta and Erpobdella rather than between Trocheta and Dina. Furthermore, the annulation pattern has proved to be inappropriate for the diagnosis of Dina and Trocheta. The taxon Trocheta bykowskii krasensehas been classified on the basis of its Trocheta-like annulation; however, according to the molecular phylogeny, it belongs to the Dina clade. A pair of diagnostic PCR primers were developed to identify unambiguously individuals with intermediate annulation. In summary, (1) the traditional genus diagnosis of Dina and Trocheta is no longer tenable, and the genera are not always morphologically distinguishable by traditional characters; (2) T. b. krasense Sket, 1968, should be re-classified as Dina krasensis; (3) the subfamily Trochetinae should be annulled because it does not represent a monophyletic assemblage. 相似文献

The leech Dina punctata Johanson, 1927 inhabits various types of running waters. This species appeared in Slovakia probably after the first Rhine‐Main‐Danube canal was built. Because little is known about its ecology, the aim of our study was to analyze the life cycle, individual growth rate, reproduction parameters and food composition of D. punctata in the Vydrica Stream. Samples of leeches were taken mainly each month from April 2003 to November 2004. The leech D. punctata had maximal 2‐year life cycle there. Mature leeches, which were recognized by the presence of clitella, were present from April to the end of August. The most individuals mature at the age of 1 year. The breeding season of D. punctata peaks in June. The number of eggs per one cocoon is from 3 to 12. The mean successfulness of development of egg to embryo is 58%. Larvae from the family Chironomidae (28%), Gammarus fossarum (20%) and oligochaetes from the subfamily Naidinae (17%) are the dominant components of the feeding niche. Erpobdella (Dina) parva complex (E. parva, E. dubia, and E. lahontana) were analyzed by species distribution, pigmentation, size, number and position of the labial eyes, tubercle presence, annulus width, gonopore position, and male genital atrium shape. I concluded that E. parva and E. dubia are conspecific, with the priority name of E. parva. The Lahontan basin species (E. lahontana), was found to be distinct by gonopore position, and now includes two additional basins (Granite Springs and Winnemucca). Endemism occurred in the Relict Dace basin complex (Butte and Steptoe basins) with respect to one form of gonopore positions. The variation in pigmentation, eye position and number, gonopore position, and male genital organ shape were highly variable in the Great Basin. Examination of the annular widths did not give any guidance to the taxonomic problem of the genera of this complex. It was noted that the Erpobdella parva complex did have some similarities with Nephelopsis obscura. 相似文献

Croatobranchus mestrovi is a troglobitic leech from deep shaft-like caves in the Velebit Mountain, Dinaric karst, Croatia, living in cold (4–6 °C) water. Its oral sucker extends to form four pairs of triangular tentacles, each with about five finger-like papillae, but widening into a marginally crenulated disc when attached to a substrate. Pairs of stiff, finger-like lateral projections, probably gills, occur along the body behind the clitellum. Somites are simple five-annulate. Despite the unique head morphology and the presence of lateral outgrowths, the anatomy and 18S rRNA gene sequence of this species indicate that it is a member of the Erpobdellidae, closely related to Dina . 相似文献

The genus ErulipusFairmaire, 1903 (previously in the subfamily Tenebrioninae, tribe Helopini), after the study of the type species (Erulipus fruhstorferiFairmaire, 1903), is transferred to the genus AinuLewis, 1894 (subfamily Stenochiinae, the tribe Cnodalonini) as a subgenus. Consequently, two new combinations are established: Ainu (Erulipus) fruhstorferi (Fairmaire, 1903), comb. nov. and Ainu (s. str.) multicolor (Pic, 1927), comb. nov. The syntypes of Erulipus fruhstorferi and Erulipus multicolorPic, 1927 are studied and the new synonym is proposed: Erulipus fruhstorferi?=?Ainu grandisRen and Yuan, 2005, syn. nov. Two new species are described from China: Ainu linwenxini Nabozhenko & Ren, sp. nov. (Taiwan) and Ainu basifemoratum Nabozhenko & Ren, sp. nov. (Yunnan). Nosema herpobdellae was recorded in populations of the leech Erpobdella octoculata from lakes in northwest England and North Wales and is redescribed using light and transmission electron microscopy. It differes from N. glossiphoniae in the nature of the infection and tissues parasitized and from N. tractabile in its larger spore size, longer polar filament, in the angle of the anterior coils of the polar filament to the spore long axis, and apparently in its developmental cycle. The infection was found in a massive xenoma, in the connective tissue surrounding the gut, which was presumed to be formed from a single hypertrophied cell. Summary Hermaphroditism of the erpobdellid leach Nephelopsis obscura is described on the basis of macroscopic and histological studies of the gonads. Perivitellogenic cells (female primordial germ cells) proliferate from the septa of segments XII and XIII in individuals of 26–30 mg and spermatogenic cells from segments XII to XIII of 20–25 mg specimens. The majority of hatch- lings develop functional testisacs when they reach 170 mg and functional ovisacs when they reach 250 mg. Oocytes proliferate only after the formation of stage 5–6 spermatozoa. Thus, N. obscura is a sequential cosexual hermaphrodite with spermatogenesis and mature spermatozoa development commencing before oogenesis. During the second cycle of gametogenesis observed in larger animals, both mature spermatozoa and ova co-occur and N. obscura exhibits simultaneous hermaphroditism. 相似文献

The PCR-amplified 185 rRNA gene and ITS2 region were used for a restriction-site analysis to infer phylogenetic relationships among European representatives of the leech family Erpobdellidae and to test the phylogenetic reliability of the morphological characters used in this family till now. Fragment patterns produced by 11 restriction endonucleases in the 18S rRNA gene and by nine in the ITS2 region showed a higher interspecific variation in the latter than in the former genome component. No intraspecific variation could be detected, even among geographically very distant populations, except for the two supposed subspecies Trocheta b. bykowskii and T. b. krasense . The estimated overall nucleotide divergence (d) was lower in the genus Erpobdella (d = 0.015–0.061) than in the genera Dina and Trocheta (d = 0.049–0.090). E. testacea and E. monostriata do not seem to be as closely related to each other as previously thought; their pairwise nucleotide divergence (0.061) is highest within the genus Erpobdella . The nucleotide divergence between T. b. bykowskii and T. b. krasense (0.090), which greatly resemble each other morphologically, was surprisingly high. Phylogenetic trees were inferred via neighbour-joining and maximum parsimony methods. The trees support the monophyly of Erpobdellidae and the subdivision into two groups according to the pattern of annulation (the Erpobdella clade and the Dina-Trocheta clade). Further subdivision based on annulation patterns and other morphological characters is not supported. There was no molecular evidence for the monophyly of the genus Dina and the monophyly of the genus Trocheta . 相似文献

Five new species of the genus Chydaeus Chaudoir, 1854 are described from China: Chydaeus fugongensissp. n. (Shibali, Fugong County, Yunnan Province), Chydaeus gutangensissp. n. (Gutang, Medog County, Xizang Autonomous Region [Tibet]), Chydaeus hanmiensissp. n. (Hanmi, Medog County, Xizang Autonomous Region [Tibet]), Chydaeus asetosussp. n. (NE of Fugong, Yunnan Province), and Chydaeus baoshanensissp. n. (N of Baoshan, Yunnan Province). Taxonomic and faunistic notes on eleven other species occurring in Xizang and Yunnan are also provided. Chydaeus shunichii Ito, 2006 is re-described, based on specimens from Lushui County, Yunnan. Chydaeus kumei Ito, 1992 is treated as a subspecies of Chydaeus andrewesi Schauberger, 1932 [NEW STATUS]. The taxonomic status of Chydaeus guangxiensis Ito, 2006 is discussed.
