Muscle fatty acid profiles and PCB contents of the detritivorous species Prochilodus lineatus and its diet (stomach contents, settling particles and sediments) were analysed from reference and polluted areas of the Paraná‐Rio de la Plata basin, to evaluate the alterations produced by opportunistic feeding on sewage discharges. Overall muscle fatty acid composition was dominated by saturated and monounsaturated 16 and 18 carbon (18 C‐FA) components with reduced long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC‐PUFA). Compared to sediments, settling particles and stomach contents were enriched in lipids and had a similar fatty acid composition. Opportunistic feeding on sewage detritus at Buenos Aires resulted in enhanced PCB and triglyceride accumulation, with higher proportions of 18 C‐FA and lower proportions of 16:1 and LC‐PUFA compared to fish from northern pristine reaches of the basin. Mid‐Paraná showed intermediate values reflecting mixing of the North stock with migrating Buenos Aires P. lineatus identified by their lipid and contaminant profile. According to multivariate analyses, this geographical variation of fatty acid composition was strongly influenced by PCB concentration. Prochilodus lineatus assimilates the energy subsidy of sewage inputs through enhanced lipogenesis with dominant 18 C‐FA and significant amounts of valuable LC‐PUFA. This lipid alteration facilitates the bioaccumulation of PCBs which in turn may reinforce the adipogenic effect of sewage feeding.  相似文献

The biochemical composition of muscle, liver and stomach contents of a detritivorous fish Prochilodus lineatus was analysed and compared to settling particles and sediments along pollution gradients over 1500 km of the Río de la Plata Basin to evaluate the effects of anthropogenic discharges in a detritus food chain. The stomach contents of P. lineatus collected in the polluted Metropolitan Buenos Aires coast were enriched in proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, similar to settling particulates collected in the sewer area, and two to five times higher than underlying sediments, supporting the interpretation that P. lineatus feeds on unconsolidated organic flocs freshly decanted from mixed industrial and sewage outfalls. Fish from Buenos Aires had consistently higher standard length (LS) and mass (MT) slopes (b = 3·5), condition indexes (K = 3·01 ± 0·47, mean ±s.d .) and muscle fat content (fat = 23·8 ± 13·8% wet mass, mean ±s.d .) relative to northern fish (b = 2·7, K = 2·22 ± 0·39, fat = 3·4 ± 3·2% wet mass, respectively), suggesting that sewage‐derived organic matter was an enriched diet, which allowed an enhanced body mass gain and fat accumulation compared to organic‐poor vegetal detritus in the north Paraná area. Buenos Aires fish also showed higher hepato‐somatic indices (mean ±s.d . IH 1·41 ± 0·49 v. 0·70 ± 0·32, respectively), which correlated with their two to three orders of magnitude higher hydrocarbon and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) loads, suggesting an enhanced detoxifying metabolism. The northward migration of fatty P. lineatus was evidenced by the presence of clear outliers in the LS and MT relationship, K and fat content along the Paraná River.  相似文献

This paper studies the migration pathways and ranges of a dominant detritivorous fish Prochilodus lineatus along pollution gradients in the Río de la Plata basin using multivariate analysis of biochemical and pollutant data. Biochemical composition (water, ash, lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, neutral lipids classes and fatty acids), aliphatic hydrocarbons (ALI), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), linear alkylbenzenes (LAB) and organochlorine pesticides (OClP) were determined in muscle samples of P. lineatus collected in Metropolitan Buenos Aires, the lower Paraná River (Paraná: 200-1000 km from Buenos Aires) and the middle Paraná and Paraguay Rivers (North: 1000-1400 km north). Biochemical variables and pollutants exhibited large variability [Lipids 1.1-89.5% wet mass; ALI 1.4-413; LABs not detectable (n.d.)-115.2; PCBs n.d.-27.9; OClPs n.d.-11.8 μg g(-1) dry mass], due to the contrast of Buenos Aires with North fish. Fish from Buenos Aires were fatty (lipids 24.7 ± 12.3% wet mass), enriched in 18 carbon fatty acids and severely contaminated (ALI 152.4 ± 72.3; LABs 65.1 ± 26.4; PCBs 15.2 ± 6.8; OClPs 1.8 ± 1.9 μg g(-1) dry mass mean ±S.D.). In contrast, fish from North were lean (4.1 ± 3.1% wet mass), enriched in long chain (>20 carbons) polyunsaturated fatty acids, with average one to two orders of magnitude lower pollutant levels (ALI 41.2 ± 51.9; PCBs 2.2 ± 3.5; LABs 8.8 ± 21.1; OClPs 0.67 ± 0.75 μg g(-1) dry mass mean ±S.D.). Paraná showed intermediate values in all variables, denoting the mixing of different fish stocks. Based on principal component analysis, 14 outliers from 60 North and Paraná samples (representing 26 from 108 individual fish) were identified as pertaining to the Buenos Aires group with very similar lipid and pollutant levels. Data suggest that P. lineatus migrates a highly variable distance, exceeding 800-1000 km in multiple spatial and temporal overlapping ranges. Chemometric analysis of biochemical and pollutant data effectively discriminates fish according to the chemical signature acquired by detritus feeding in pristine and contaminated urban or industrial areas.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition, the effect of different concentrations of nitrogen (16.5-344 mg ?L?1), phosphorus (9–45 mg? L?1), iron (9–45 mg? L?1) and salinity levels (0–20 psu) on lipid production in the green microalga Scenedesmus dimorphus KMITL, a new strain isolated from a tropical country, Thailand, were studied. The alga was isolated from a freshwater fish pond, and cultured in Chlorella medium by varying one parameter at a time. The main fatty acid composition of this strain was C16–C18 (97.52 %) fatty acids. A high lipid content was observed in conditions of 16.5 mg? L?1-N, or 22 mg ?L?1-P, or 45 mg ?L?1-Fe, or 5 psu salinity, which accumulated lipids to 20.3?±?0.4, 19.4?±?0.2, 24.7?±?0.5, and 14.3?±?0.2 % of algal biomass, respectively. Increasing lipid content and lipid productivity was noted when the alga was cultured under high iron concentration and high salinity, as well as under reduced phosphorus conditions, whereas nitrogen limitation only resulted in an increased lipid content.  相似文献

Food assimilation by the detritivorous fish Prochilodus lineatus, throughout a life cycle, was studied by means of fatty acid analysis. Fish length ranged from 2.7 to 55 cm and weight from 2 to 2670 g. Samples for fatty acid determination were taken from the mesenteric deposit in adults and from the whole fish in juveniles. Phyto and zooplankton, and superficial mud were also studied. Samples were taken from the principal channel of the Paraná River and lentic environments in its alluvial plain (60 ° 29W and 31 ° 40S). Fatty acids in the smaller fish (2.8–3.8 cm) indicated the assimilation of zoo and phytoplankton. Longer P. lineatus have a fat-deficient diet, particularly in polyunsaturated acids. At different stages of life, P. lineatus is adapted to different sources of food. When young, it eats zoo- and phytoplankton, becomes gradually detritivorous and has a series of adaptations of the digestive tract (morphological and histological) to enable it to assimilate detritus.  相似文献

The marine oleaginous diatom, Fistulifera sp. strain JPCC DA0580, is a promising candidate for biodiesel production due to its high lipid content. In order to truly evaluate the potential of this strain as biodiesel feedstock as well as the impact of nutrition-deficiency to this strain, the proportion of the lipid fractions and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from Fistulifera sp. cultured under nutrition-sufficient or -deficient conditions were analyzed. The nutrition deficiency led to the increase of the total lipid content in the form of neutral lipids (NLs) accumulation and the decline of polar lipids compared with nutrition-sufficiency. Meanwhile, the total lipid productivity was not significantly changed under two nutrition conditions while the NL productivity under nutrition-deficient condition was much higher than nutrition-sufficient condition. The major FAME components, C14:0, C16:0, C16:1, and C20:5, contribute to over 90 % of total FAMEs under both nutrition conditions. A lower polyunsaturated FAME level were observed in the nutrition-deficient condition (9.9?±?0.2 %) compared with the nutrition-sufficient condition (19.8?±?1.2 %), suggesting the availability of the nutrition stress on the strain JPCC DA0580 for improvement of fuel quality as well as productivity. The lipid quality estimation based on the FAME profile revealed that the nutrition-deficiency could further improve the lipid quality of both total lipids and NL fraction. In addition, direct infusion ESI-Q-TRAP-MS/MS was carried out for the fractionated NL in order to estimate triacylglycerol (TAG) composition, suggesting a crucial role of the chloroplast in TAG synthesis.  相似文献

The lipid composition of the common mussel (Mytilus platensis d'Orbigny), which lives on littoral beds along the coast of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, was studied. The main non-polar lipids were triacylglycerols, while phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanlamine were the main phospholipids. The predominant fatty acids were 16:0,16:1ω7, 18:0, 18:1ω9, 20:5ω3 and 22:6ω3. The content of polyenoic acids of 20 and 22 carbons increased and 16:0 + 16:1ω7 acids decreased in spring-summer together with an increase in non-polar lipids. Sexual maturation modified the lipid composition of gametes. By the end of the gonad development, a considerable increase of gonadal lipids and polyenoic fatty acids of 20 and 22 carbons was observed.  相似文献

  • 1 Caddisflies (Trichoptera) that shred leaf detritus preferentially ingested lipid-coated detritus during the last larval in star. This is the interval when these insects accumulate the triglyceride reserves necessary for metamorphosis and reproduction. Early in star larvae, which do not accumulate lipids, showed no preference for any lipids. This behaviour indicates food selection based on changing nutritional needs.
  • 2 Pure unsaturated 18- and 20-carbon fatty acids, either as free acids or triglycerides, were most strongly preferred. Crude lipid and the neutral lipid fraction from aquatic hyphomycete fungi, an important component of aquatic leaf detritus, were also preferred.
  • 3 Tipula abdominalis (Diptera: Tipulidae) did not prefer any lipids during the last instar.

Today probiotics have been suggested as a treatment for the prevention of NAFLD. Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation may have beneficial effects in regulating hepatic lipid metabolism, adipose tissue function and inflammation. The present study was designed to determine whether probiotics plus omega-3 are superior to probiotics alone on the monosodium glutamate (MSG)-induced NAFLD model in rats. We included 60 rats divided into four groups, 15 animals in each. Rats of group I were intact. Newborn rats of groups II–IV were injected with MSG. The III (Symbiter) group received 2.5 ml/kg of multiprobiotic “Symbiter” containing concentrated biomass of 14 probiotic bacteria genera. The IV (Symbiter-Omega) groups received “Symbiter-Omega” combination of probiotic biomass supplemented with flax and wheat germ oil (250 mg of each, concentration of omega-3 fatty acids 1–5 %). In both interventional groups reduction in total NAS score was observed. Supplementation of alive probiotic mixture with omega-3 fatty acids lead to 20 % higher decrease in steatosis score (0.73 ± 0.11 vs 0.93 ± 0.22, p = 0.848) and reduction by 16.6 % of triglycerides content in liver as compared to probiotic alone. Our study demonstrated more pronounced reduction in hepatic steatosis and hepatic lipid accumulation after treatment with combination of alive probiotics and omega-3 as compared to probiotics alone.  相似文献

The biological processes on mosquito could be variable in response to local climatic characteristics. The thermal effects on time and the rate larval development, immature survival and adult size in local populations of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus (Macquart) (Diptera: Culicidae) from cold (Sarmiento) and temperate (Buenos Aires) regions from Argentina were evaluated. This species affects livestock production and human health. Larvae of both regions were placed in breeding thermal baths (11–32 °C range). Development and survival were recorded daily until adult emergence. The development temperature threshold and thermal constant for Sarmiento (4.59 ± 3.08 °C, 204.08 ± 7.83 degree days) was lower and higher than Buenos Aires, respectively (8.06 ± 1.81 °C, 149.25 ± 2.6 degree days). At cold temperatures (11–16 °C), Sarmiento larvae demonstrated 5 days faster development and higher survival (56%) than Buenos Aires (15%), whereas at warm temperatures (20–32 °C) were up to 2 days slower and similar survival (16% vs. 18%). The size did not show differences between populations. An Ochlerotatus albifasciatus population seems to present local thermal responses. The favourable temperature for survival and rate of development would vary within a cold or warm range, and these differential responses would explain the wide geographical distribution in different climatic regions of southern South America.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition of the lipid of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) caught in two different localities, Philippine Sea (a tropical zone) and the Pacific coast area of Japan (a temperate zone) is described. The total lipids of various organs (dorsal ordinary muscle, ventral ordinary muscle, dark muscle, liver, heart, pyloric cecum, and orbital region) and of the stomach contents were extracted, and the fatty acid comosition was analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC).

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6n-3) was the major unsaturated fatty acid in the lipid of all organs in the specimens examined from both localities, the mean DHA content accounting for more than 25% (mean ± S.D. of 26.9 ±5.7%) of the total fatty acids. This value is markedly different from the fatty acid profile of other fish species, because, in general, the fatty acid composition of other species is variable and the DHA content is less than 20% of total fatty acids.

Although the mean DHA content of the total fatty acids in the lipid of yellowfin tuna caught in the tropical and temperate zones was markedly higher than that in other fish species, there was a small difference between that in the northern samples (temperate waters, 30.5 ±6.1%) and the southern samples (tropical waters, 25.9 ± 5.2%). It is suggested that this difference may be due to environmental effects, e.g., the fatty acid composition of the lipids of prey organisms, because there is also a small difference between the mean DHA content of northern prey fish (22.7 ±6.1%) and that of southern prey fish (19.2 ±4.0%).  相似文献

Cd, Cr, Cu and Pb concentrations were measured in the water and these plus Zn were measured in the diet, muscle and liver of the detritivorous fish Prochilodus lineatus and the omnivorous fish Pterodoras granulosus at two sites (Lower Paraná River and Río de la Plata right margin) located upstream and downstream, respectively, from Buenos Aires, an important source of xenobiotics. Cu and Cr concentrations in water were higher in the Río de la Plata coastal waters, while Cd and Pb were below detection limits. The stomach contents of P. lineatus showed a higher metal content at the estuary, attaining concentrations within the range reported for contaminated sediments. However, metals in fish tissue were not higher at the estuary and, except for Cd in liver, were lower than in the organic fraction of the stomach content. Thus, only Cd was accumulated. The P. granulosus diet was composed mainly of river vegetation debris and clams, Corbicula fluminea, at the estuary. Cd, Cu and Pb in liver were higher at the estuary while only Cu was higher in the diet at this site. The different nature of the diet seems associated with a differential bioavailability of its metal content. P. granulosus accumulates Cu at both sites and Cd at the estuary. Both fishes showed higher metal content in liver than in muscle. Cr in liver was below detection limits. No relation was found between metal content and fish size. Overall, metal content in fish tissues were low, except for Cu in P. granulosus and Cd in P. lineatus, similar to those of uncontaminated sites, suggesting that homeostatic mechanisms prevent metal accumulation.  相似文献

Prochilodus lineatus Valenciennes (curimbatá) is an important migratory Neotropical fish. It does not feed during spawning migration, and often survives after spawning. The mobilization of energy reserves and some effects of starvation (zero to eight weeks) on fish health were experimentally evaluated. Hepatic glycogen and lipids from the perivisceral fat bodies were the main reserves mobilized during the first four weeks of fasting. During this period, somatic indices and blood parameters showed that fish health was not significantly affected. However, after five weeks of food deprivation, the main energy reserves were depleted and the fish became anaemic. The loss of muscle mass indicates that protein breakdown was an important energy source after the reduction of hepatic and perivisceral reserves. Mortality was increasingly observed from seven weeks of starvation. Prior accumulation of high amounts of reserves is essential to allow movements for long distances during spawning migrations in this species.  相似文献

In both lupin and broad bean, the root lipids contain paraffins, triglycerides, diglycerides, free fatty acids and polar lipids (phospholipids and galactolipids). The polar lipids and the triglycerides are the more abundant classes. The root galactolipids are mono- and di-galactosyldiglycerides; two steryl glycosides are also present. The phospholipids in both species are: phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidic acid. This last phospholipid represents 8·3% of total lipid phosphorus in Lupinus against 2·3% in Vicia. The other acidic phospholipids represent 30·4% in Lupinus against 20·9% in Vicia. The lipids of Lupinus are rich in linolenic acid whereas those found in Vicia are richer in linoleic acid. The various subcellular fractions prepared from the roots of both species have an homogeneous lipid composition, reflecting exactly that of entire cells. The calcium passive fixation capacity in microsomes and mitochondria of Lupinus roots is more important than that in the same organelles of Vicia faba roots. Thus a relationship is suggested between the amount of phospholipids in membranes and the passive fixation of calcium.  相似文献

Hairy root cultures of Crambe abyssinica were obtained through infection of leaves with two wild-type agropine strains of Agrobacterium rhizogenes. The efficiency of transformation was about 16 %. The presence of T-DNA from A. rhizogenes in the hairy roots genome was confirmed by PCR using specific primers for rolB and rolC genes. Selected clones of hairy roots and non-Agrobacterium induced roots from sterile cultures were used for analyses of acyl-lipids. The total amount of acyl-lipids per mg of dry weight was similar in both the non-Agrobacterium induced roots and the hairy roots in good physiological condition, and ranged from 38 to 53 nmol. However, in the clones which showed symptoms of ageing, the lipid content was severely reduced. Also the lipid composition of hairy roots appears to be similar to the composition of non-transformed roots. Polar lipids were the dominant class of lipids in both types of roots (about 75 %). Furthermore, we found diacylglycerols, free fatty acids (FFA), triacylglycerols, sterol esters, and an unidentified lipid class. The dominant fatty acids in the lipids of both types of roots were α-linolenic acid, palmitic acid, and linoleic acid (over 12 % of total FA). Among the lipids of both hairy roots and non-Agrobacterium induced roots of C. abyssinica, an unidentified FA was found (over 16 % of total FAs). The present study is the first example of establishment of hairy roots cultures of C. abyssinica. It also includes the first analysis of the lipids in hairy roots and non-Agrobacterium induced roots of this species.  相似文献

The two DNA fractions were isolated from sarcoma 37 by the use of the phenol method: supramolecular complex of DNA (SC DNA, 60%) and "phenol" nuclear matrix DNA (PNM DNA, 40%). The lipids in SC DNA represented of light and tightly bound components, the latter was similar to the lipid composition of PNM DNA. SC DNA contains 20 micrograms of neutral lipids (NL) and 6.5 micrograms of phospholipids (PL), while PNM DNA contains 9.8 micrograms of NL and 3.5 micrograms of PL per mg DNA. SC DNA-bound lipids of sarcoma 37 are deficient in free cholesterol (FC, 13%), but rich in cholesterol esters (CE, 39%) and free fatty acids (FFA, 23%); very rich in cardiolipin (CL, 43%) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE, 28%), but deficient in phosphatidylcholine (PC, 12%). The tumor contains triglycerides (TG) that is absent in DNA of the normal cells. The injection of sarcolysine (10 micrograms/kg) markedly increased (1.5-3 times) the content of all LN and PL fractions in SC DNA, which was accompanied by both the accumulation of FC, TG, PC and the reduction of the remaining lipid fractions in PNM DNA. It is supposed, that DNA-bound lipids may be the target for the action of sarcolysine.  相似文献

Fatty acids of adult Pieris brassicae and the incorporation of dietary linolenic acid-1-14C into adult (and egg) lipids were analysed 1 and 9 days after ecdysis. Females grown on a leaf diet retained palmitic, palmitoleic, and oleic acids but lost linoleic and linolenic acids during adult life, while males utilized their fatty acids more evenly. On an artificial diet both sexes retained palmitic acid but utilized palmitoleic and oleic acids. In both cases females laid eggs with a high palmitic and oleic acid content.Analysis of thorax flight muscles (artificial diet) revealed that 67·9% of the lipids in 1-day females and 83·6% in 9-day females was phospholipid (PL). During adult life linolenic acid increased in thorax neutral lipids (NL) from 14·6 to 20·0% in females and from 18·5 to 30·0% in males. Males incorporated more linolenic acid-1-14C especially in fat body and flight muscle PL than females. The majority of this was recovered from phosphatidyl cholines (PTC) in 1-day adults whereas in 9-day adults phosphatidyl ethanolamines (PTE) and another compound, most likely cardiolipin, contained more label (29·0% in PTC, 33·1% in PTE, 34·9% in cardiolipin, and 2·0% in sphingomyelin in the thorax of females). The females also incorporated the label into egg lipids (42·2% in PL, 57·8% in NL). There was recovered from PTC 54·5% of the label in egg PL.Most of the label in thorax NL was found to be in free fatty acids (FFA). The label disappeared from triglycerides during adult life and tended to accumulate in FFA (82·7% in 9-day females) while in diglycerides the label did not vary during adult life (17·2% in 9-day post-emergence females). PTC apparently is a fairly labile PL type which is utilized in muscle whereas PTE and cardiolipin may be more structural in function and accumulated more label from linolenic acid with increasing adult age. Linolenic acid, then, essentially is a structural fatty acid and its rôle appears to be mainly in the structures of flight muscle membranes and organelles.  相似文献

Thirty Chlorella and 30 Scenedesmus strains grown in nitrogen-stressed conditions (70 mg L?1 N) were analyzed for biomass accumulation, lipid productivity, protein, and fatty acid (FA) composition. Scenedesmus strains produced more biomass (4.02?±?0.73 g L?1) after 14 days in culture compared to Chlorella strains (2.57?±?0.12 g L?1). Protein content decreased and lipid content increased from days 8 to 14 with an increase in triacylglycerol (TAG) accumulation in most strains. By day 14, Scenedesmus strains generally had higher lipid productivity (53.5?±?3.7 mg lipid L?1 day?1) than Chlorella strains (35.1?±?2.8 mg lipid L?1 day?1) with the lipids consisting mainly of C16–18 TAGs. Scenedesmus strains generally had a more suitable FA profile with higher amounts of saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and a smaller polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) component. Chlorella strains had a larger PUFA component and smaller MUFA component. The general trend in the FA composition of Chlorella strains was oleic > palmitic > α-linolenic = linoleic > eicosenoic > heptadecenoic > stearic acid. For Scenedesmus strains, the general trend was oleic > palmitic > linoleic > α-linolenic > stearic > eicosenoic > palmitoleic > heptadecenoic acid. The most promising strains with the highest lipid productivity and most suitable FA profiles were Scenedesmus sp. MACC 401, Scenedesmus soli MACC 721, and Scenedesmus ecornis MACC 714. Although Chlorella sp. MACC 519 had lower lipid productivity, the FA profile was good with a lower PUFA component compared to the other Chlorella strains analyzed and a low linolenic acid concentration.  相似文献

In Prunus avium , the lipid and fatty acid composition of non-embryogenic calli and embryogenic tissues was studied. The embryogenic tissues were characterised by a higher content of triglycerides and total phospholipids than non-embryogenic calli. Neutral lipids (NL) from embryogenic tissues akppeared less saturated than NL from non-embryogenic calli. Somatic embryogenesis was associated with considerable proportions of linoleic acid in both NL and phosphatidylcholine (PC) (23% in NL and 60% in PC), together with high proportions of palmitic acid in phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylinositol (PI) (92% in PE and 62% in PI). Conversely, non-embryogenic calli were characterised by a considerable proportion of palmitic acid in NL (74%) and high proportions of oleic acid in PE (100%) and PC (84%). This investigation is aimed to study an impact of habitat degradation on proximate composition and amino acid (AAs) profile of Catla catla, Labeo rohita and Cirrhinus mrigala collected from polluted, non-polluted area (upstream) and a commercial fish farm. The amino acid profile was estimated by the amino acid analyzer. C. catla collected from the polluted environment had highest lipid, protein and ash contents (12.04?±?0.01, 13.45?±?0.01 and 0.93?±?0.03%, respectively). The high protein content (14.73?±?0.01 and 14.12?±?0. 01%) was recorded in C. catla procured from non-polluted (upstream) wild habitat of River Chenab and controlled commercial fish farm. Farmed fish species showed comparatively higher moisture contents followed by upstream and polluted area fishes. C. mrigala showed significant differences in amino acid and proximate composition collected from a polluted site of the river Chenab. C. catla collected from non-polluted site of the river showed an excellent nutrient profile, followed by L. rohita (wild and farmed) and C. mrigala (polluted area), respectively. All fishes from the polluted areas of the River Chenab indicated a significant decrease in the concentration of some AAs when compared to farmed and wild (upstream) major carps. Omitting of some important AAs was also observed in the meat of fish harvested from polluted habitat of this river. C. mrigala and L. rohita exhibited a significant increase in the concentration of some of non-essential amino acids such as cysteine in their meat. The results indicated that wild fish (upstream) and farmed fish species had highest protein contents and amino acid profile and hence appeared to be the best for human consumption. The proximate composition and AAs profiles of fish harvested from the polluted area of the river clearly indicated that efforts shall be made for the restoration of habitat to continue the requirement of high quality fish meat at a low cost to the human population.  相似文献
