Abstract

Three new species of genus Thrips are described—austellus, coprosmae, and phormiicola—which are closely related to the common New Zealand species T. obscuratus (Crawford). The systematic and zoogeographic significance of this endemic species-group is discussed. Physemothrips hadrus n.sp. is described from the South Island; the only other member of this genus is from Macquarie Island. Anaphothrips zelandicus n.sp. is described from the South Island and the Chatham and Antipodes islands, A. woodi Pitkin is recorded from New Zealand, and the relationships of these two species to the Australian fauna are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

A new earthworm species belonging to the acanthodriline genus Rhododrilus is described from the North Island of New Zealand, elevating the generic total (excluding Australian forms) to 30 species. The new taxon forms part of the species-group with incomplete fusion of the male and prostatic terminalia. Its most closely related congener is the geographically proximate R. papaensis. Though exhibiting great heterogeneity, suggestive of polyphyly, the genus remains taxonomically convenient. It probably encompasses convergent forms, the ancestral affinities of which may never be ascertained.  相似文献

The sub-antarctic mite genus Neohyadesia (Acari: Astigmata) is known from two described taxa: N. signyi from Signy Island (South Orkney Islands, South Atlantic Province), and a subspecies, N. s. punctulata from Ile Kerguelen (South Indian Province). This paper describes a second species distinguishable by, in particular, cuticular microtrichae covering the dorsal surface. The new species, N. microtricha sp. nov., has a similarly disjunct sub-antarctic distribution, occurring on both Marion (SIP) and South Georgia (SAP) islands. A systematic synopsis of the sub-antarctic algophagine mites is given. Accepted: 30 June 2000  相似文献

A new species of the genus Mesostoma Ehrenberg 1935, M. zariae n.sp. is described and its relationship discussed. The new species belongs to the M. lingua species-group and is characterised by the presence of two kinds of prostate secretions and a pear-shaped penis papilla. It occurs in small standing or slowly running waters at Zaria, Nigeria. It has previously been proven (Mead 1978) that this species is predatory on the aquatic stages of mosquitoes.  相似文献

The infectoria species-group within the genus Alternaria was originally conceived by Simmons in 1993 and was based upon common morphological characteristics that included the development of conidial chains with primary, secondary, and tertiary branching resulting in substantial three-dimensional complexity. These characters can overlap to varying degrees with numerous taxa in another Alternaria group, the alternata species-group, making species-group differentiation difficult. However, members of the infectoria species-group are also distinguished from other small-spored Alternaria species based upon colony characteristics that typically include white or nearly white floccose colonies on DRYES medium and clumps of sporulation islands on low sugar media such as V8 agar, PCA, and weak PDA. In addition, the infectoria species-group contains representatives that are known to produce teleomorphs (Lewia), whereas the members of the alternata species-group and other Alternaria species-groups are strictly asexual. In this study, an assemblage of isolates recovered from varied hosts from the west coast of the United States were examined based upon morphological characters and compared to previously described members of the infectoria species-group. These isolates and members of the infectoria species-group typically produce arachnoid vegetative hyphae with multiple primary conidiophores, whereas other small-spored Alternaria species produce primary conidiophores predominately directly from the agar surface. Additionally, molecular phylogenetic analyses resolved these isolates and members of the infectoria species-group as distinctly nested amongst other sexual taxa in Allewia (Embellisia anamorph) and Macrospora (Nimbya anamorph) and phylogenetically distant to asexual lineages of Alternaria. One taxon among these isolates was novel and clustered with the asexual A. rosae in a distinct clade basal to all other members of the infectoria species-group. A new genus is proposed, Pseudoalternaria gen. nov. and a new taxon is described, Pseudoalternaria arrhenatheria sp. nov.. Moreover, a second taxon is reclassified, Pseudoalternaria rosae comb. nov.  相似文献

Within the genus Mesocyclops the thermocyclopoides species-group is defined on the basis of the presence of spiniform armature on the maxillar coxa. Examination of nineteen, mainly Palaeotropical species of Mesocyclops and nine representatives of the closely related genus Thermocyclops revealed, that the coxal part of the maxillar syncoxa of the species recently unified in the thermocyclopoides group is adorned with distinct rows of big spinules on its frontal surface. This character, with only one known exception in South Indian M. cf. papuensis, is absent in other species of Mesocyclops and all the Thermocyclops studied here. These species have no spinules on the maxillar coxa at all or very tiny scattered ones.  相似文献

Sixteen species of the tanaidacean subfamily Pseudotanainae and three of the family Nototanaidae have been recorded from shallow and deep waters in the north-east Atlantic. Six new species of Pseudotanais, and the new genera Mystriocentrus, Parapseudotanais and Bathytanaissus are described. The species Pseudotanais affinis is re-described, and a cladistic analysis of the ‘affinis’ species-group is presented. Pseudotanais is a eurybathic genus and individuals of this taxon are common in the region. The Nototanaidae is poorly represented in the deep-sea, and the present record is the first for the Northern Hemisphere.  相似文献

We describe two new species of the nematomorph genus Acutogordius, A. sulawensis from Sulawesi and A. protectus from Madagascar. For comparative reasons, the other known species are briefly described and discussed. The genus Acutogordius now comprises nine species regarded as valid. They are distributed on the entire southern hemisphere, from South and Central America over Africa and South‐east Asia to Australia. The three male specimens of Acutogordius protectus differ in the shape of a cuticular structure, the postcloacal crescent, which has implications for the potential of this character as a taxonomic tool.  相似文献
