Amino acid profiles in some scented rice varieties   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Summary Twelve scented (basmati) and one non-scented variety were analysed for their amino acid composition. The essential amino acid profiles of scented varieties when compared with non-scented, revealed that these varieties exhibited higher values, which ranged from 2.82 to 4.86 gm/100 gm protein for lysine, 1.92 to 3.13 for methionine, 1.67 to 4.23 for tyrosine, 3.65 to 4.91 for phenylalanine, 5.50 to 8.95 for leucine, 2.25 to 3.40 for isoleucine, 2.84 to 3.46 for threonine, 3.36 to 5.33 for valine. When these values were compared to FAO recommended standards, it was observed that most of the scented varieties had comparable or superior values, while varieties such as, Type 3, Basmati sufaid 100, Likitimachi, Randhunipagalu and Basmati 370 showed superior lysine, phenylalanine, leucine, and methionine content. These observations suggest that the scented varieties posses better amino acid profiles and exhibit superior nutritional qualities, which could be utilised in breeding varieties with improved amino acid composition.  相似文献

Comparative analysis was performed of sensitivity of three populations of neurons of the inferior colliculus central nucleus and of neurons of the auditory cortex A1 and AAF fields of the house mouse Mus musculus to series of signals of wideband noise with spectral notch shifting along the frequency axis and to series of the band noise signals with shifting band. Sensitivity to spectral notches in noise was estimated from a change of impulse activity depending on notch location on the frequency axis (modulation coefficients were determined as the normalized difference between the maximal and minimal spike number in neuronal responses to all noises with notch exposed in the series). It was shown that the highest modulation coefficient values and accordingly the highest frequency-dependent sensitivity to spectral notches in the noise were peculiar to inhibition-dependent inferior colliculus neurons. Statistical analysis confirmed that distribution of modulation coefficients for the group of the inhibition-dependent neurons differed statistically significantly from the distribution for groups of primary-like and V-shaped inferior colliculus neurons as well as of cortical neurons (U-test, p < 0.0001). The lowest sensitivity to spectral notches was revealed in the V-shaped inferior colliculus neurons and cortical neurons; in these groups, distribution of modulation coefficients did not differed statistically significantly (p > 0.3). Thus, although a part of cortical neurons does have the frequency-dependent selectivity to spectral localizationally informative changes in sound signals, its formation needs participation of the inferior colliculus and its inhibition-dependent neurons. Selectivity to direction of the shift of spectral changes in noise signals in neurons of the inferior colliculus and auditory cortex was similar and was manifested mainly as shift along the frequency axis of dependences of the spike number in the neuronal responses and latent periods on central frequency of notch in noise (the noise band).  相似文献

Summary The electron microprobe microanalyser has been used to measure the concentrations of Ca, P and S in the predentine of young rat incisors. The specimens were prepared as alcohol fixed embedded ultrathin sections, unfixed vacuum embedded dry cut ultrathin sections and as thin cryostat sections. The results show the influence of preparation on the measured compositions and indicate that Ca is tightly bound to the matrix, whereas P can be easily washed out. Measurements along the dentine-predentine border demonstrated zones of Ca enrichment, the average size of which suggests that the zones could be the prestages of calcospherites. A mineralisation mechanism is discussed in which the high Ca concentration activates pyrophosphatase or ATPase before the onset of nucleation.The authors express their thanks to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft for financial support  相似文献

The neural modulation in central auditory system plays an important role in perception and processing of sound signal and auditory cognition. The inferior colliculus (IC) is both a relay station in central auditory pathway and a sub-cortical auditory center doing the sound signal processing. IC is also modulated by the descending projections from the cortex and auditory thalamus, medial geniculate body, and these neural modulations not only can affect ongoing sound signal processing but can also induce plastic changes in IC.  相似文献

Summary Systemic administration of monosodium-1-gluta-mate by single injections of 4 mg/g body weight in infant rats (2–10 days of age) results in acute swelling of cytoplasm and nuclear pyknosis of neurons in the stratum zonale and stratum griseum superficiale of the superior colliculus. Multiple daily doses of 4 mg/g body weight monosodium-1-glutamate result in an almost complete loss of neurons in these two superficial layers. The deeper layers appear not to be affected. No pathological effects were observed in the lateral geniculate body or pretectal complex.Light-and electron-microscopic studies reveal that the optic nerves are remarkably shrunken and many myelinated as well as unmyelinated axons are lost. Injection of 3Hproline into the vitreous body of one eye results in limited transport to the suprachiasmatic nucleus, lateral geniculate body and to lateral portions of the superior colliculus.The small percentage of intact axons in the optic nerve, as well as the limited proline transport from the eye, suggest that administration of monosodium-1-glutamate leaves intact some optic fibers, a portion of which belongs to the retinohypothalamic tract.  相似文献

We have previously shown that systemic administration of S(+)3-chloropropanediol (3-CPD) produces a morphological loss of astrocytes in specific nuclei of the rodent brain that precedes loss of both neurones and endothelial tight junctions. Here, we have evaluated the differential susceptibility of neuronal and astrocytic function to 3-CPD, in order to see if this parallels the morphological selectivity. To do this, we have developed an in vivo method for monitoring astrocyte function over time by giving hourly 20-min bolus challenge exposures to ammonia via an implanted microdialysis probe and measuring the resulting transient increases in the extracellular glutamine : glutamate ratio. These challenge ammonia exposures evoked a stable response for at least 5 h when the probe was implanted in the rat inferior colliculus, but caused no behavioural response or morphological damage. Although 3-CPD produced a rapid and sustained abolition of the ammonia response within 2 h, the field potential response of inferior collicular neurones to sound fell significantly to 75.0 ± 3.9% pre-dose at up to 8 h but then fell markedly, reaching 20.5 ± 3.7% at 2 days. Blood flow in the inferior colliculus also showed only late changes, increasing substantially at 2 days. Astrocyte damage at the EM level was seen from 3 h, followed by loss of astrocytes from 18 h to a minimum of 7 ± 10% control at 3 days. The rapid abolition of the ammonia response suggests that in addition to selective astrocyte death, 3-CPD also produces an earlier impairment of astrocyte function that precedes loss of neuronal function. This initial functional selectivity of 3-CPD provides a potential investigative tool in neurochemical studies of astrocyte-neuronal interactions.  相似文献

Summary Auditory response properties were studied in the superior colliculus (SC) of the echolocating horseshoe bat Rhinolophus rouxi, a long CF-FM bat, by the use of stationary, dichotic stimuli.The most striking finding in the horseshoe bat was an enormous overrepresentation of neurons with best frequencies in the range of the constant frequency component of the species specific echolocation call (72% of the auditory neurons). These neurons had response thresholds as low as 0 dB SPL and were narrowly tuned with Q10 dB — values up to 400, just as in the nuclei of the primary auditory pathway in this species. This overrepresentation may suggest the importance of the superior colliculus in the context of echolocation behavior.While noise stimuli were not particularly effective, other auditory response properties were similar to those described in other mammals. 65% of the SC neurons in the horseshoe bat responded only to monaural stimulation of one ear, primarily the contralateral one. 32% of the neurons received monaural input from both ears. The proportion of neurons responsive to ipsilateral stimulation (41%) was rather high. The amino acid composition of proteins from liver microsomes has been studied in rats and in human subjects with normal liver, with obstructive jaundice or liver cirrhosis. The pattern of the amino acid composition of microsomes appeared to be species-specific. Phenylalanine, threonine, serine, proline, histidine and [aspartic acid plus asparagine] were increased, while alanine, tyrosine, glycine and arginine were decreased in the human compared to the rat microsomes. In patients with obstructive jaundice of short duration (less than two months) only a slight decrease in leucine and phenylalanine could be noticed, while in the case of liver cirrhosis amino acid composition was markedly changed.  相似文献

目的:探讨水杨酸钠给药对小鼠下丘核神经元GABAα、NR1表达及听反应的影响。方法:实验将36只成年健康昆明小鼠分三组(n=12):A组:对照组;B组:水杨酸钠给药组(450mg.kg-1.d-1);C组:水杨酸钠(450mg.kg-1.d-1)+利多卡因(10mg.kg-1.d-1)组。各组均经腹腔注射给药,A组给以同等剂量的生理盐水,所有动物自由饮食。给药15 d后进行检测。采用RT-PCR技术检测小鼠下丘核区GABAα、NR1mRNA的表达;采用细胞外电生理记录技术研究下丘核区神经元在水杨酸钠给药后强度-发放率函数、强度-潜伏期函数和频率调谐曲线的变化。结果:①水杨酸钠组的下丘核区GABAαmRNA表达较对照组明显降低(P<0.05);水杨酸钠+利多卡因组与对照组比较无显著性差异(P>0.05);水杨酸钠组NR1mRNA表达较对照组明显升高(P<0.01),水杨酸钠+利多卡因组与对照组比较有显著性差异(P<0.05);②水杨酸钠给药后发放率和潜伏期函数呈非单调性改变,而神经元的调谐曲线从狭窄型向宽阔型转变;③水杨酸钠+利多卡因组发放率和潜伏期函数呈非单调性改变,而神经元的调谐曲线从狭窄型向宽阔型转变例数显著减少(P<0.05,P<0.01)。结论:①水杨酸钠引起实验小鼠下丘核GABAαmRNA表达下调,同时又使小鼠下丘核NR1mRNA表达增高;②水杨酸钠给药后发放率和潜伏期函数呈非单调性改变,而神经元的调谐曲线从狭窄型向宽阔型转变③利多卡因有逆转水杨酸钠给药后发放率和潜伏期函数呈非单调性改变和神经元的调谐曲线从狭窄型向宽阔型转变的作用。  相似文献

Neural activity is closely coupled with energy metabolism but details of the association remain to be identified. One basic area involves the relationships between neural activity and the main supportive substrates of glucose and lactate. This is of fundamental significance for the interpretation of non‐invasive neural imaging. Here, we use microelectrodes with high spatial and temporal resolution to determine simultaneous co‐localized changes in glucose, lactate, and neural activity during visual activation of the cerebral cortex in the cat. Tissue glucose and lactate concentration levels are measured with electrochemical microelectrodes while neural spiking activity and local field potentials are sampled by a microelectrode. These measurements are performed simultaneously while neurons are activated by visual stimuli of different contrast levels, orientations, and sizes. We find immediate decreases in tissue glucose concentration and simultaneous increases in lactate during neural activation. Both glucose and lactate signals return to their baseline levels instantly as neurons cease firing. No sustained changes or initial dips in glucose or lactate signals are elicited by visual stimulation. However, co‐localized measurements of cerebral blood flow and neural activity demonstrate a clear delay in the cerebral blood flow signal such that it does not correlate temporally with the neural response. These results provide direct real‐time evidence regarding the coupling between co‐localized energy metabolism and neural activity during physiological stimulation. They are also relevant to a current question regarding the role of lactate in energy metabolism in the brain during neural activation.

Amino acid uptake mediated by system A was studied in cultured fetal and adult hepatocytes, subjected to growth stimulation by EGF and insulin, or to growth inhibition by high cell density. The mitogenic stimulation induced a strong transport increase only in fetal cells, while the cell density-dependent growth inhibition, probably mediated by molecules present on adult hepatocyte membranes, provoked the decrease of amino acid uptake only in the adult cells. The results indicate that the different modulation of amino acid transport by cell growth is dependent on the age and the differentiation stage of hepatocytes.  相似文献

Axo-dendritic synaptic profiles were quantified along the whole depth of the visual cortex of 10-day-old male and female rats. In both sexes the numerical density of synaptic profiles on spine-like structures was greater than the numerical density of synapses on dendritic shafts. Females had a significantly greater numerical density of synaptic profiles on spine-like structures, than did males at a distance of 200–400 and 500–600 μm from the pia surface, which corresponds to layers II–III and IV of the cortex, respectively. A small percentage (2%–4%) of spine-like structures received two presynaptic terminals. This type of double synapses was three times more abundant in females. It is generally accepted that the cortex can be divided into numerous regions depending on the type of information each processes, and that specific input is effective in improving the development of related regions. In visual cortex, many subareas are distinguished on the basis of their adequate information. However, whether the development of a subarea can be specifically improved by its particular input is still largely unknown. Here, we show the specific effects of motion information on the development of the medial area of secondary visual cortex (V2M), a subarea associated with processing the movement component of visual information. Although watching a moving or a still image had similar effects in primary visual cortex, the moving image induced multistage development of V2M in dark‐reared rats: both mRNA and protein levels of GluR2 were upregulated, the density and protein content of GluR2‐positive synapses increased, and the spine density and the frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) of pyramidal neurons in Layer 5 were elevated. Our results suggest that rats are able to identify motion information, distribute it to V2M, and then use this input to specifically improve the development of V2M. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 在发育期大鼠视皮层上以2与100 Hz强直刺激诱导长持续长时程增强(long-lasting long-term potentiation,L-LTP),然后观察突触超微结构的变化.在L-LTP形成后,运用电子显微镜及图像分析技术分析突触形态的变化.实验中观察到,突触界面曲率、突触数密度以及突触后致密物厚度在2与100 Hz组较对照组均显著增加,而突触间隙宽度减小.在100 Hz强直刺激诱导L-LTP组中,单位体积的活性区面积显著增加.100 Hz强直刺激诱导L-LTP组较2 Hz强直刺激诱导L-LTP组中单个突触活性区的面积大.以上结果表明100 Hz强直刺激诱导L-LTP组中新形成的突触较2 Hz强直刺激诱导L-LTP组中的突触大,提示100 Hz强直刺激引起的L-LTP可能伴随有突触后细胞骨架蛋白重组或合成的增加.  相似文献

The transport of L-proline, L-lysine and L-glutamate in rat red blood cells has been studied. L-proline and L-lysine uptake were Na+-independent. When the concentration dependence was studied both showed a non-saturable uptake assimilable to a difussion-like process, with high Kd values (0.718 and 0.191 min–1 for L-proline and L-lysine respectively). Rat red blood cells showed high impermeability to L-glutamate. No sodium dependence was observed and the Kd value was low (0.067 min–1). Our results show firstly, that rat red blood cells do not have amino acid transport systems for anionic and cationic amino acids and secondly that erythrocytes show no sodium-dependent L-proline transport, and that these cells are very permeable to this amino acid.Abbreviations MeAIB methyl aminoisobutyric acid  相似文献

The study of intestinal and hepatic uptake of amino acids by obese rats has been the main objective of this work. The obese animals used were either from genetic or from nutritional basis. In fed state, the intestinal release of amino acids was higher in obese animals than in lean ones (around the double values), but nutritionally and genetically obese rat showed a related pattern, specially for the case of alanine (increased release in relation to controls by a factor of 10). The higher alanine release by intestine is not reversed by 12-h food deprivation. The hepatic availability was also higher in obesity models than in lean animals (increases over 30%). However, the hepatic uptake was increased in genetically obese animals (more than 35%) and decreased in nutritionally obese animals (more than 40%), especially due to alanine uptake(2419, 1100 and 3794 nmols/min/g protein in lean, Diet-ob andfa/fa animals respectively). In obese animals the food deprivation tended to normalize the hepatic uptake of alanine. The differences in alanine uptake between both types of obesity may reflect the differences of urea synthesis.  相似文献

In this study, phosphatidic acid (PA) metabolization is found to generate diacylglycerol (DAG), monoacylglycerol (MAG) and glycerol by the sequential action of lipid phosphate phosphatase (LPP), diacylglycerol lipase (DAGL), and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) in cerebral cortex (CC) synaptosomes. It is also demonstrated that PA is metabolized by phospholipases A (PLA)/lysophosphatidic acid phosphohydrolase (LPAPase) in synaptic endings. Age-related changes in the metabolization of PA have been observed in rat cerebral cortex synaptosomes in the presence of the alternative substrates for LPP, namely LPA, sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) and ceramide 1-phosphate (C1P). In addition, LPA and C1P up to concentrations of about 50 μM favor the metabolism in the direction of MAG and glycerol in aged and adult synaptosomes, respectively. At equimolecular concentrations with PA, LPA decreases DAG formation in adult and aged synaptosomes, whereas S1P decreases it and C1P increases it only in aged synaptosomes. Sphingosine (50 μM) or ceramide (100 μM) increase PA metabolism by the pathway that involves LPP/DAGL/MAGL action in aged membranes. Using RHC-80267, a DAGL inhibitor, we could observe that 50% and 33% of MAG are produced as a result of DAGL action in adult and aged synaptosomes, respectively. Taken together, our findings indicate that the ageing modifies the different enzymatic pathways involved in PA metabolization.  相似文献

Developmental profiles of gangliosides in mouse and rat cerebral cortex   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
Summary Developmental profiles of 11 gangliosides, concentration of lipid- and glycoprotein-bound sialic acid, and activity of AChE of the rat and mouse cerebral cortex were followed from the 7th day of gestation to the 21st postnatal day.There are three main changes in ganglioside concentration, which are similar in both species. The first occurs from gestation day 10 until birth: parallel to decreased proliferation, cell migration, and neuroblast differentiation, GM3 and GD3 in mouse cortex and GD3 in the rat's decreases in favor of GQ1b, GT1b, and GD1a.The second occurs from birth until the first postnatal week: Parallel to increased growth and arborization of dendrites and axons as well as synaptogenesis in rats and mice, there is a two-fold rise of GD1a, whereas GQ1b and GT1b remain on a nearly constant level. Concomitantly, GM3 and GD3 decreases. The third period of ganglioside changes starts in the second postnatal week, parallel to onset of myelination, and is characterized by an increase of GM1 in parallel with a decrease of the polysialogangliosides GT1b and GQ1b.  相似文献
