XVIIITH International Congress of Psychology,Moscow, USSR,August 4-11, 1966. Information and Program

The XVIIIth International Congress of Psychology has been organized by the Society of Psychologists of the USSR, under the auspices of the International Union of Scientific Psychology and the Soviet Steering Committee, under the chairmanship of P. N. Fedosseyev. The Steering Committee was established by the USSR Ministry of Higher Education, the USSR Academy of Sciences, and the RSFSR Ministry of Education. The President of the Congress is A. N. Leont'yev. The Organizing Committee of the Congress is chaired by A. A. Smirnov; and the Program Committee is chaired by A. R. Luriya, with the assistance of P. Fraisse (Paris), acting on behalf of the International Union of Scientific Psychology.

G6PD deficiency, diet, and adaptation to malaria

The symposium on “G6PD Deficiency, Diet, and Adaptation to Malaria” was held in Cortona, Italy on July 3,4,5 1995 under the auspices of the Congress of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES). The Congress had actually taken place in Florence in April 1995, and the G6PD symposium was a satellite session to that meeting. Professor Brunetto Chiarelli, of the Istituto di Antropologia at the University of Florence, was the program chairman for the Congress. The general theme of the Congress was “Biodemography and Human Evolution,” and the G6PD symposium was consistent with this topic. In its broadest sense the symposium focused on biocultural factors which have influenced evolution at the G6PD locus and the pattern of population variation that has consequently emerged in this genetic system. A more specific sub-theme, reflected in the title of the symposium, was the interaction between dietary factors and the G6PD locus in providing antimalarial protection to human populations.     

Fourth Congress of the Psychological Society of the USSR

The Fourth Annual Congress of Psychologists was organized jointly by the All-Union Psychological Society of the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (Society President, B. F. Lomov; General Secretary, E. A. Farapanova) and the D. N. Uznadze Institute of Psychology of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR, and took place in Tbilisi from June 21 through June 24, 1971. The Congress President was A. S. Prangishvili; the Chairman of the Program Committee, Sh. Nadirashvili; and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, V. V. Grigolava.     

MRI in medical practice and its future use in radiation oncology. Resume of XXV GOCO Congress (Montpellier) 2017

This publication is a resume of the GOCO Congress (Montpellier 2017). A part of this congress was about the use of MRI in clinical practice, focused on the oncology field. The role of this tool was described in diagnosis, staging of tumors, evaluation of treatment response and the future use in prognostic and investigation (radiomics). After that, in the context of the present and future uses of MRI in radiation oncology, MRI guided radiotherapy was explained, as a method that allows an increased precision in image guided treatments. This publication is a resume of the GOCO Congress (Montpellier 2017). A part of this congress was about the use of MRI in clinical practice, focused on the oncology field. The role of this tool was described in diagnosis, staging of tumors, evaluation of treatment response and the future use in prognostic and investigation (radiomics).

The Galton–Darwin–Wedgwood Pedigree of H. H. Laughlin

A pedigree of the Galton–Darwin–Wedgwood families that was exhibited as a poster at the Third International Congress of Eugenics in 1932 at the American Museum of Natural History has been located in the archives of Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. This pedigree was prepared by Harry Hamilton Laughlin, Director of the Eugenics Record Office of the Carnegie Institute. The pedigree shows consanguineous marriages within the three families. A special collection of rare Darwin family photographs assembled by Leonard Darwin has also been found in the Truman State University archives. These photographs were exhibited as a poster alongside the pedigree at the 1932 Eugenics Congress. The poster of the Galton–Darwin–Wedgwood pedigree is published here, together with a tabular version providing ready access to the information contained in the pedigree. Measurement of very high dose rate of ionization radiation by ionometric method

Summary A miniature ionization chamber of air-equivalent material in the form of a thimble is described. By means of this ionization chamber in connection with a Siemens-universal-dosimeter-system it is possible to measure a dose rate up to 1.55 million R per minute.Some parts of the paper have been presented at the XI. International Congress of Radiology, Rome, September 1965.
