The estimation of underground standing crop of individual plant species in a natural grassland ecosystem without direct measurement of screened plant material is described. A mathematical formulation techinque has been designed by correlating the variables fresh weight, dry weight, ash weight and also nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium, sulphur and magnesium content of the plant species.  相似文献

Intestinal absorption of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium was studied in rats by the method of intestinal perfusion using ouabain as an inhibitor of sodium-potassium dependent ATPase. At the same time the activity of ATPase and phosphatase were determined in homogenates of intestinal mucosa. A significant effect on the concentration of the determined ions was demonstrated in the transport of these ions, and also an unquestionable participation of intestinal ATPase in the direction and intensity of this transport. It was found that the multidirectional effect of ouabain on the transport of cations depended on their concentration. In the case of concentrations of cations similar to those in the mean food rations it has been demonstrated that ouabain increased the absorption of sodium, potassium and calcium and inhibited the absorption of magnesium. With a threefold higher ions concentration the absorption of potassium and magnesium was inhibited, without changing the transport of sodium and calcium. The possible explanation of the mechanism of these effects is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of different sulphur and phosphorus compounds on the growth and sporulation ofCurvularia pallescens Boed. has been studied. Nine different sulphur sources were tried but among them only magnesium sulphate yielded the best dry weight of the fungus. Zinc sulphate, sodium sulphate, sodium thiosulphate, potassium sulphate and calcium sulphate supported good growth. Poor growth was recorded on sodium bisulphite, ammonium sulphate, sodium sulphide and control. Sporulation was excellent on magnesium sulphate. It was good on zinc sulphate, sodium sulphate and potassium sulphate. On sodium thiosulphate, calcium sulphate, sodium bisulphite and control it was fair. Sodium sulphide and ammonium sulphate had inhibitory effect as sporulation was poor and nil on these two compounds respectively.Six phosphorus compounds were studied. Tripotassium phosphate gave best growth and excellent sporulation. Good growth and excellent sporulation was recorded on monobasic potassium phosphate and magnesium phosphate. Growth and sporulation were good on dibasic potassium phosphate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate. Ammonium phosphate was poorly utilized.  相似文献

54 bulls of the German Simmental breed were fed either on a high energy level (maize silage ad libitum and 1.8 kg concentrate) or on a low energy level (maize silage restrictively and 1.0 kg concentrate). In dependence on feeding intensity a mean daily weight gain of 870 or 1210 g was obtained. Animals were slaughtered with a live mass of 200 kg, 350 kg, 500 kg, 575 kg and 650 kg. Empty body was divided into 13 cuts and afterwards separated into lean, bone and adipose tissues and tendons. Major mineral element content was determined in these tissues as well as in the noncarcass parts.

In the lean tissue the mean content (200 kg) of 0.3 g calcium, 10 g phosphorus, 1 g magnesium, 2.3 g sodium and 14.8 g potassium/kg dry matter decreased slightly with rising live mass (200–650 kg). The contents of major mineral elements were much higher in bone tissue. For the fattening period from 200 to 650 kg of live mass mean contents of 151.5 g calcium, 71.3 g phosphorus, 3.2 g magnesium, 5.1 g sodium and 1.1 g potassium per kg DM were analysed. Mineral element content of bone tissue increased with rising live mass as well as animals on low feeding intensity showed a higher mineral content than on high energy level. In all, major mineral element content in fat tissue was very low. In noncarcass parts head and legs calcium and phosphorus had analogous to bone tissue the highest concentration. Hide showed a high content of sodium, whereas organs and digestive tract had a high content of potassium and phosphorus. Total mass of major mineral elements in the different tissues increased above all in the fattening period of 200 to 350 kg. In carcass as well as in empty body, mass of calcium and phosphorus was much higher than magnesium, sodium and potassium. Also animals on low feeding intensity showed a higher mass of major mineral elements in carcass and empty body than animals on high energy feeding intensity. The intensively fed bulls had a mean deposition of 12.7 g calcium, 6.9 g phosphorus, 0.37 g magnesium, 1.2 g sodium and 2.1 potassium per 1000 g of empty body weight gain, whereas restrictively fed bulls deposited in average 15.0 g calcium, 7.8 g phosphorus, 0.4 g magnesium, 1.2 g sodium and 2.4 g potassium per 1000 g of empty body weight gain.  相似文献

X-ray microanalysis has been used to determine elemental content in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes of hyperthyroid rats in comparison with euthyroid controls. No significant differences were found for any examined element (sodium, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, potassium, magnesium and calcium). In contrast to earlier reports from another laboratory, these data indicate that thyroid hormones do not substantially affect elemental content in rat hepatocytes.  相似文献

Values have been calculated for apparent mobilities and partition coefficients in the outer non-aqueous layer of the protoplasm of Nitella. Among the alkali metals (with the exception of cesium) the order of mobilities resembles that in water and the partition coefficients (except for cesium) follow the rule of Shedlovsky and Uhlig, according to which the partition coefficient increases with the ionic radius. Taking the mobility of the chloride ion as unity, we obtain the following: lithium 2.04, sodium 2.33, potassium 8.76, rubidium 8.76, cesium 1.72, ammonium 4.05, ½ magnesium 20.7, and ½ calcium 7.52. After exposure to guaiacol these values become: lithium 5.83, sodium 7.30, potassium 8.76, rubidium 8,76, cesium 3.38, ammonium 4.91, ½ magnesium 20.7, and ½ calcium 14.46. The partition coefficients of the chlorides are as follows, when that of potassium chloride is taken as unity: lithium 0.0133, sodium 0.0263, rubidium 1.0, cesium 0.0152, ammonium 0.0182, magnesium 0.0017, and calcium 0.02. These are raised by guaiacol to the following: lithium 0.149, sodium 0.426, rubidium 1.0, cesium 0.82, ammonium 0.935, magnesium 0.0263, and calcium 0.323 (that of potassium is not changed). The effect of guaiacol on the mobilities of the sodium and potassium ions resembles that seen in Halicystis but differs from that found in Valonia where guaiacol increases the mobility of the sodium ion but decreases that of the potassium ion.  相似文献

Acute treatment with morphine sulfate produces a selective loss of calcium from synaptosomal particulate fractions of rat brain. No changes in sodium, potassium or magnesium content were observed for myelin, synaptosomal particulate or mitochondrial fractions. Acute opiate treatment (90 min.) while causing calcium loss, produced no changes in regional brain content for sodium, potassium or magnesium. Naloxone, in the presence of morphine, reversed the calcium loss in both regional brain areas and synaptosomal particulate fractions. An hypothesis is offered that naloxone may bind to synaptosomal membranes protecting a morphine sensitive calcium pool, or may reverse the calcium loss seen after opiate agonist treatment.  相似文献

The distribution of calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and hydrogen ions in the human epidermis was visualized by blotting to gel containing chemical indicators and the effects of skin barrier disruption were examined. In normal skin, both calcium and magnesium were localized with high concentration in the upper epidermis. EDTA blocked these imaging. The hydrogen ion was also high in the upper epidermis. Sodium did not show obvious gradation in the epidermis. The potassium concentration was the lowest in the upper epidermis. After the barrier disruption, the gradients of calcium, magnesium, and potassium disappeared while the pH gradation was not altered. Observation at a high magnification revealed lower calcium and sodium concentrations in the nucleus. The concentration of magnesium was slightly higher in the nucleus. The novel method of the present study could show the visual image of the ions in frozen tissue without further preparation.  相似文献

Only part of the effect of dietary protein on urinary calcium excretion can be ascribed to sulfur amino acids. We hypothesized that chloride, another factor often associated with isolated proteins, and another amino acid, lysine, affect utilization of calcium. The effects of supplemental dietary chloride, inorganic or organic, on calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium utilization were studied in two rat studies. Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were fed semi-purified diets that contained moderate (1.8 mg Cl/g diet) or supplemental (15.5 mg Cl/g diet) chloride as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, or lysine monohydrochloride with or without calcium carbonate for 56 or 119 days. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride had higher urinary phosphorus excretion, more efficient phosphorus absorption, but unchanged tissue phosphorus levels after 7 and 16 weeks of dietary treatment as compared to rats fed moderate chloride. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride excreted more calcium in urine at 7 weeks and absorbed calcium less efficiently at 16 weeks. Tissue calcium concentrations were unaffected, but total tibia magnesium and plasma magnesium concentrations were lower in rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride than those fed moderate chloride. Lysine chloride with or without additional calcium elevated urinary calcium excretion even more than sodium chloride and potassium chloride ingestion. Rats fed lysine chloride with supplemental calcium had smaller apparent absorption and urinary losses of phosphorus and magnesium after 16 weeks and lower tibia and plasma magnesium concentrations than rats fed lysine chloride.  相似文献

Abstract— This study was carried out to ascertain what biochemical changes might be present in cobalt-induced epilepsy in the rat. Sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, Na-K ATPase activity, water content, protein content and the ability of the tissue to utilize oxygen were measured in (1) the area of the cerebral cortex in which the cobalt was implanted; (2) in an area adjacent to but not including the area of the lesion; and (3) in the homotopic area of the contralateral cerebral cortex. The greatest changes were observed in the area of the lesion itself, with marked increases in calcium, magnesium and sodium contents and decreases in potassium content, Na-K ATPase activity, protein content and the ability of the tissue to utilize oxygen. The only significant findings in the area adjacent to the lesion and in the contralateral cortex were a modest elevation of sodium and a modest decrease in potassium at different time periods after implantation of the cobalt. We feel that the changes observed at the site of cobalt implantation may reflect tissue destruction which is unrelated to the epileptic process.  相似文献

A micromethod is described which allows the quantitative evaluation of the extracellular space volume of isolated guinea-pig atria (> 15 mg tissue wet weight) by means of an enzymatic estimation of inulin. In addition, the acidic tissue extracts are analysed for the potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium and 45calcium content. Taking into account the individual extracellular space volumes, it is possible to calculate the cellular electrolyte content and relative specific 45calcium activity of each atrium. Our experiments reveal under steady state conditions a significant correlation between the force of contraction and the cellular electrolyte content. Atria with a higher contraction force were found to contain a significantly elevated cellular potassium content and a lower content of cellular sodium and calcium than atria with a smaller contraction force. The decrease of cellular calcium content is exclusively caused by the lowering of the fraction of unexchanged tissue calcium. The significance of the results is discussed with respect to the events leading to contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle.  相似文献

The effect of freezing and thawing on the release of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminium directly into the sample water and into a dilute acid extractant was investigated using peat samples collected from three different mire sites. In most cases exchangeable sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron content of the treated samples was greater than in the untreated controls. Changes in aluminium content are more probably related to drying and re-wetting of the samples than to freezing and thawing. The role of freezing and thawing in the nutrient status of mires is discussed.  相似文献

Material from four fertilizer trials on barley in Hampshire was analysed with the principal purpose of comparing the extent to which the potassium content of different plant organs was diagnostic of potassium deficiency. Samples of older leaf blades and sheaths, young leaves, stems and ears were gathered at the time of ear emergence from each of the 108 plots, and analysed spectrographically for calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium and sodium.
Differences in composition between plants from the different sites were proportionately greater in the older leaf blades than in the other organs for calcium, the young leaves for manganese and sodium, and the older leaf blades and sheaths for potassium. Differences in sodium and manganese content at the different sites appeared to be related to the differences in potassium status.
Applications of muriate of potash increased the potassium content of all organs except the ears, and decreased the content of magnesium, manganese and sodium, and of iron at one site. The effect of potassium supply on manganese and sodium content was most marked in the young leaves. The proportional increases observed in potassium content as a result of application of muriate of potash were similar at all four sites, in spite of the fact that responses in growth and yield differed greatly.
As between the four sites, the responses to muriate of potash observed in the yields of grain are significantly correlated with the potassium content of the older leaf blades and the stems, and the following tentative limiting values are put forward, above which no increase in grain yield as a result of potassic manuring may be expected:
(a) in the older leaf blades at the time of ear emergence 0.92% potassium in dry matter, (b) in the stems at the time of ear emergence 1–01 % potassium in dry matter.  相似文献

Milk samples were obtained in early and/or late lactation from Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebras, Grant's zebras, domestic horses, ponies and a mule mare made pregnant by embryo transfer. Samples were compared for their content of total solids, ash, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc and iron. Milk from the Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebra and the domestic horse had similar mineral composition and the content of minerals was higher in early than in late lactation. Milk from the domestic mule contained the lowest concentration of calcium, phosphorus and zinc but the highest concentration of magnesium, sodium and potassium. Milk from the Grant's zebras contained more sodium than potassium, unlike milk from Przewalski horses, Hartmann's zebras or domestic horses in which there was more potassium than sodium.  相似文献

The variation of tissue copper, zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium content of inbred C57BL/6 mice during the infective cycle of Lewis lung carcinoma have been studied. Tissue calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium concentrations were well maintained during the infective cycle, probably because of their large dietary availability, copper, zinc and iron, however, showed a progressive decrease in their tissue concentrations. Liver zinc increased in parallel with the metastasising process. The important decrease in tissue iron observed agress with the characterized hypoferric response to infection. However, when the losses of metals were considered on a global organism basis, the loss of iron was not paralleled by an increase in tumor iron, but a global loss was observed. The hypoferric response did not deter tumor growth, as this was able to carry on its development with significantly decreasing neoplastic tissue iron content. The only metal actively concentrated by the tumoral mass was sodium.  相似文献

Abstract

Studies carried out in the laboratory indicate that Fissidens cristatus Wils., a moss of chalk and limestone grassland, requires the following conditions for optimum growth: pH, 8.0; calcium, 10 mg/1; potassium, 10 mg/1; magnesium, 50–80 mg/1; iron, less than 0.1 mg/1; It has also been demonstrated that calcium inhibits the short-term uptake of potassium from the culture solution.

Within the shoots of specimens collected from the natural habitat, the potassium content was always higher in the current growth segments, whereas that of calcium was always lower. Seasonal variations in the total content of calcium, potassium and magnesium were observed.

The need to wash material collected in the field prior to chemical analysis has been established and the results are discussed in relation to the distribution and local environmental contamination of F. cristatus.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to investigate the correlation between serum macro-element and trace element contents and bone mineral density (BMD) as well as the occurrence of osteoporosis. After the epidemiological investigation of 290 postmenopausal women from ages 45 to 65 in the Xi’an urban area, their blood was collected and serum concentrations of macro-elements, calcium, phosphonium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, and trace elements, zinc, iron, copper, and selenium were determined using atomic absorption spectrometry. Their BMD was measured by QDR-2000 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The correlation analysis between BMD and serum element contents was done with the software of SPSS 13.0. The correlation analysis of serum elements of postmenopausal women showed that there was a significant correlation between serum calcium and the other elements, and also a significant correlation between serum phosphonium and the others except serum potassium. The serum potassium content had a significant correlation with serum calcium, sodium and iron, but sodium content showed a significant correlation with the others except iron and selenium. In addition, copper had a significant correlation with the others except potassium and selenium. In correlation analysis between BMD and the elements contents, only did the potassium content show a significant positive correlation with BMD of lumbar vertebra and proximal femora. The comparison results between osteoporosis group, osteopenia group, and healthy group showed that there was no significant difference in the element contents between the groups, but there existed a tendency that potassium content increased with the rise of BMD. There exist significant correlations between the contents of serum elements such as calcium, phosphonium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, and selenium, but no significant differences in these elements contents between the osteoporosis group, osteopenia group, and healthy group. Serum potassium content shows a significant positive correlation with BMD, suggesting potassium may be involved in the development of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.  相似文献

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease. Its incidence is rising worldwide. However, no specific therapy has been shown to be effective in its treatment. In the present study, the in vitro NAFLD model was established in human SMMC-7721 cells by using oleic acid (OA). Then, content changes of eight cations, including sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron, copper, zinc, and manganese, were investigated in the experimental model. The results showed that OA induced a decrease in magnesium level, while an increase in iron one. Additionally, the supplementation of magnesium in the cell culture model was studied. It showed that magnesium ameliorated lipid accumulation induced by OA. Our results suggest that magnesium could decrease the risk of NAFLD and be used as a promising candidate for the treatment of NAFLD.  相似文献

Micropuncture, microanalytical and microelectrode techniques were used to study electrochemical aspects of 7 elements and fluid in the ductuli efferents and ductus epididymidis of the tammar. Rete testis fluid was isosmotic with blood and had a lower pH. It also contained lower concentrations of bicarbonate, sodium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and sulphur and higher concentrations of potassium and chloride than blood. The luminal fluid was acidified further during passage through the sperm ducts and all of the elements which were studied moved in or out of the lumen, usually against an electrochemical gradient. The ductuli efferents reabsorbed 87% of the fluid leaving the testis without changing the intraluminal concentrations of sodium, potassium and calcium, but the concentrations of magnesium, phosphorus and sulphur increased. The caput epididymidis reabsorbed about half the fluid entering it: sodium concentrations decreased and those of potassium and phosphorus increased. There was also some fluid reabsorption and an increase in the values of potassium and phosphorus in the corpus epididymidis. There was little net transport of fluid in the cauda epididymidis; sodium, chloride, magnesium and phosphorus concentrations decreased and potassium values increased. Studies involving filtration through a dialysis membrane of blood and fluid from the rete testis and cauda epididymidis showed that, whilst some of the calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and sulphur was associated with high molecular weight compounds in blood, the association was not significant in the reproductive fluids.  相似文献
