A new species of Chonopeltis (Crustacea: Branchiura), C. koki n. sp., which parasitises the cyprinid fish Labeo cylindricus Peters, 1852 and displays a pigmentation pattern corresponding to the skin coloration of its host, is described from the Zambesi River in the eastern Caprivi, Namibia. The anatomical terminology of the genus is discussed.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the cells of the digestive system of Argulus japonicus is described with the use of transmission electron microscopy. Specimens of Argulus japonicus were collected from the Vaal Dam in South Africa and fixed in Todd's fixative. The samples were post fixed in osmium tetroxide and embedded in resin. The anterior midgut is composed mostly of R cells while the enteral diverticula are composed mainly of R cells in the proximal diverticules and of F cells in the distal diverticula. The posterior midgut is composed of very large papilliform B cells and of R cells. The R cells in the anterior midgut probably absorb nutrients including lipids. The F cells are filled mostly with rough endoplasmic reticulum, suggesting enzyme synthesis, while the B cells portrayed endocytotic vesicles, indicating intracellular digestion of predigested food. The R cells of the posterior midgut are less active than cells present in the anterior midgut. E cells and peritrophic membrane were not observed.  相似文献

The morphology of the male reproductive system as well as sperm transfer in Branchiura has been described for Dolops ranarum and Argulus japonicus. In this study, the reproductive system and accessory structures are described for male Chonopeltis australis using histology, light microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. For the first time, we describe sperm transfer by means of a spermatophore in this genus. The internal and external morphology and mechanism of sperm transfer is compared with other Branchiura, where it has been described. The morphology of the reproductive system of C. australis is similar to that of D. ranarum while the accessory structures and the spermatophore produced are similar to that of A. japonicus. A histological study of the pre-oral spine and associated structures in Argulus japonicus reveals that two exceptionally long and slender muscles casuse retraction of the spine into the spinal sheath. Originating from the body wall mid-dorsally the two muscles proceed through the nerve ring and the blood-filled lumen of the spinal sheath before being inserted on a bolster of tissue constituting the base of the spine. Movement of the spinal sheath is affected by two muscles originating from a common apodeme in the dorsal body wall, just posterior to the nauplius eye, and inserted on the lateral walls of the base of the spinal sheath. Two ducts, each leading from a glandular complex in the lateral parts of the carapace, proceed rostrally through the haemocoelic spaces. After passing the tritocerebrum laterally they accompany the retractor muscles of the spine on their course to the base of the spine. Passing through the bolster of tissue at the base of the spine the two ducts run all the way up to the tip of the spine where they open separately. The glandula praeboscoidalis is not associated with the pre-oral spine since its duct runs posteriorly in the wall of the proboscis. Two new species of Chonopeltis (Crustacea: Branchiura), parasitic on cyprinid fishes, are described from rivers in the extreme S.W. Cape region of Africa. These emphasize the remarkable nature of the fauna of these rivers, which includes several endemic fishes. Like their hosts these closely related parasites came from the north and have close affinity with a species from the Orange River system. Their probable evolutionary history is discussed. Keys to both sexes of all described species of Chonopeltis are given.  相似文献

First record of fossil Mesozoic Ctenopoda (Crustacea, Cladocera)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Pre-Pleistocene representatives of the crustacean order Ctenopoda Sars, 1865 are unknown. Here we describe Mesozoic fossil specimens of ctenopods from two localities in Mongolia: Khotont (Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary, about 145 Mya) and Khutel Khara (Lower Cretaceous, about 129 Mya). All specimens apparently belonged to the tribe Latonini Korovchinsky, 1986 of the subfamily Sidinae Baird, 1850. At the Khotont site, ctenopods were the most numerous microscopic animal fossils. We assigned these cladocerans to a new genus and species Archelatona zherikhini gen. nov., sp. nov. Ostracods were found in two pieces of Baltic amber for the first time. The animals belong to the freshwater genus Cyclocypris. Since Baltic amber was formed during Eocene times in southern Scandinavia, the age of the specimens is estimated at 42–54 million years. As aquatic organisms, ostracods are seldom trapped in amber; it is considered that one specimen, already dead and dried, was either blown onto sticky resin on a plant stem, or washed there by a high flood level, while the other was probably splashed, alive, in a drop of water against the flowing resin, again probably during a flood. Associated faunal remains, including other crustaceans, suggest a coastal palaeoenvironment with some marine as well as freshwater influence.  相似文献

The fish ectoparasites Branchiura (Crustacea) display two different ways of attachment to the fish surface as adults: the first maxillae are either hooks (Dolops) or suction discs (Argulus, Chonopeltis, and Dipteropeltis). In larval Argulus foliaceus the first maxillae are hooks. With the first molecular phylogeny of the Branchiura as a background, the present paper discusses the evolutionary scenarios leading to hooks versus suction discs. Specific homologies exist between larval Argulus foliaceus hooks and adult Dolops ranarum hooks. These include the presence of a comparable number of segments/portions and a distal segment terminating in a double structure: a distal two-part hook (in Argulus) or one hook and an associate spine-like structure (in Dolops). In the phylogenetic reconstruction based on three molecular markers (mitochondrial 16S rRNA, nuclear 18S and 28S rRNA), Dolops ranarum is found to be in a sister group position to all other Branchiura, which in this analysis include six Argulus and one Chonopeltis sequences. Based on the molecular phylogeny a likely evolutionary scenario is that the ancestral branchiuran used hooks (on the first maxilla) for attachment, as seen in Dolops, of which the proximal part was subsequently modified into suction discs in Argulus and Chonopeltis (and Dipteropeltis). The sister group relationship of the Branchiura and Pentastomida is confirmed based on the most comprehensive taxon sampling until now. No evidence was found for a branchiuran in-group position of the Pentastomida.  相似文献

The Branchiura of freshwater habitats, consisting of the valid genera Argulus, Chonopeltis, Dipteropeltis, and Dolops, presently contains 113 valid species and 12 undescribed species. The entire group is composed of ectoparasitic species that usually live on fishes. The highest diversity of genera and species occurs in the Afrotropical and Neotropical regions. The diversity of the freshwater species surpasses that of species in marine and brackish waters, but this could be due to inadequate study of the fauna of the latter habitats. One species, Argulus japonicus, has been introduced from east/southeast Asia to all other continents, except Antarctica. Studies of higher level relationships place the Branchiura with either Pentastomida or Ostracoda. Hypotheses about phylogenetic relationships of either the genera or species in this group have not been proposed. Guest editors: E. V. Balian, C. Lévêque, H. Segers & K. This note reports on the presence of a well established population of the isopod Synidotea laevidorsalis (Miers) in the Gironde estuary (southwestern France). This species is new for the European fauna. S. laevidorsalis is a nonendemic cool-temperate to subtropical, shallow-water species which was probably introduced into the study area from Asia. In the salinity range of 1 to 10 g 1-1 of the Gironde the species constitutes an important component of the brackish-water hyperbenthic community. The population was already present in 1975 when it was misidentified as the native species Idotea emarginata (Fabricius).  相似文献

Reconstructions from serial sections reveal that the digestive system consists of a pharynx esophagus, crop, midgut, and rectum. Two main stems from the branched enteral diverticula are connected to the lateral regions of the crop by right rind left arms. Glandular tissue surrounds the enteral diverticula proximally. A strong sphincter separates the crop and midgut, whereas the midgut and rectum are separated by a weak sphincter. Cuboidal epithelium lines the pharynx, esophagus, crop, and rectum, whereas cuboidal and club-shaped epithelia line the midgut. The cuboidal cells possess elongated nuclei and numerous vacuoles, suggesting that absorption takes place in the midgut.  相似文献
