A collection of 51 bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) isolates was transmitted from infected Trifolium subterraneum (subterranean clover) to Lupinus angustifolius (narrow‐leafed lupin) by Myzus persicae (green peach aphid). Depending on isolate and L. angiistifolius genotype used, two distinct responses developed in L. angustifolius plants, either systemic necrosis and plant death or non‐necrotic reactions of varying severity. Ten isolates caused necrosis and plant death in cv. Danja. However, when nine of these were inoculated to breeding line 90L423‐07‐13, seven induced non‐necrotic reactions, while two caused necrosis and plant death. Thirty seven isolates always produced non‐necrotic reactions regardless of genotype of L. angustifolius inoculated. Non‐necrotic and necrotic isolates originally came both from lupins and other species, and the non‐necrotic isolates were no less efficiently transmitted by M. persicae than the necrotic ones. When one isolate of each type was inoculated together to T. subterraneum and nine months later this culture was used as an acquisition source for aphid transmission to L. angustifolius, only the necrotic type was detected. Previous infection of L. angustifolius plants with a non necrolic isolate prevented subsequent infection by a necrotic one. All necrotic and non‐necrotic isolates reacted with BYMV antiserum in ELISA but only two cross‐reacted with antiserum to clover yellow vein virus (CYVV). When selected necrotic and non‐necrotic isolates were inoculated to differential hosts, all behaved like BYMV and not CYVV. When three isolates of each type were transmitted to 11 other cool season grain legume species, except in Cicer arietinum (chickpea), there were no necrotic reactions, but symptom severity varied with the isolate and species inoculated. The two isolates that caused necrosis in C. arietinum did not do so in L. angustifolius. The six isolates from Vicia faba (faba bean) all caused non‐necrotic reactions in L. angustifolius cv. Danja and 90L423‐07‐13. These and two necrotic isolates readily infected five genotypes of V. faba always causing severe symptoms. However, three non‐necrotic isolates from L. angustifolius and a further necrotic isolate were poorly infectious on V. faba in which they generally induced mild symptoms. These results show that at least three strain groups of BYMV can be distinguished by their reactions in different L. angustifolius genotypes, one causing necrosis and death in cv. Danja and 90L423‐07‐13, one causing necrosis and death in Danja but not 90L423‐07‐13, and one causing non‐nccrotic reactions in both. These strain groups could not be distinguished when representative necrotic and non‐necrotic isolates were inoculated to other grain legume species. However, inoculation to V. faba distinguished two other BYMV strain groupings differing in severity of symptoms and ability to infect this species.  相似文献

Spread of necrotic and non‐necrotic strains of Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) was compared when aphid vectors moved both types from external or internal virus sources to plots of Lupinus spp. (lupin). Regardless of whether virus sources were internal or external, removed or left in place, and spread was within plots with homologous sources or across buffers to plots containing the opposite type of virus source, non‐necrotic BYMV always spread faster than necrotic BYMV in plots of L. angustifolius (narrow‐leafed lupin). When necrotic BYMV spread from external sources into plots sown with two L. angustifolius genotypes differing in their necrosis responses to different BYMV strain groups and one genotype of L. luteus (yellow lupin) giving only non‐necrotic responses, differing symptom reactions in the two L. angustifolius genotypes revealed presence of two distinct necrotic BYMV strain groups and overall virus spread was greater in this species than in L. luteus. Spread of non‐necrotic BYMV in L. angustifolius was always polycyclic in nature. However, when it came initially from external sources, spread of necrotic BYMV was largely monocyclic. This work demonstrates how temporal virus spread can be diminished when hypersensitive (necrotic) resistance is deployed and the limitations associated with employing hypersensitivity that is strain specific.  相似文献

Nuclear DNA content varies over 20% within the diploid (2n = 18) species M. douglasii and M. bigelovii. Two different intraspecific crosses were made between M. douglasii biotypes which differed by about 10% in 2C nuclear DNA content. The F2 progeny of one intraspecific cross showed no striking evidence of segregation for DNA content. The mean DNA contents of F2 progeny from two sister hybrids from the second intraspecific cross were significantly different at the 1% level. An interspecific cross was made between biotypes of M. douglasii and M. bigelovii that differed by approximately 10% in DNA amount. The 12 F1 progeny did not cluster around the parental midpoint, but instead encompassed nearly the entire range between the parental means. The five families of F2 progeny studied each had a mean DNA content corresponding to that of the particular F1 from which they were derived, indicating that the F1 plants were not of identical DNA content. The results of this study suggest that DNA sequences which account for the DNA content differences among the plants are unstable and can undergo deletion or amplification in a hybrid. The altered DNA content may be heritably stable and show little or no segregation in the F2 progeny.  相似文献

The mode of inheritance of resistance to bipyridyl herbicides in bipyridyl-resistant biotypes of Arctotheca calendula and of Hordeum leporinum was investigated. F1 plants from reciprocal crosses between diquat-resistant and -susceptible plants of A. calendula showed an intermediate response to diquat application that was nuclearly inherited. Treatment of F2 plants with 100 g ai ha-1 of diquat or 800 g ai ha-1 of paraquat killed all homozygous-susceptible plants, caused severe injury to heterozygous plants but only slight or no injury to homozygous-resistant plants. Back crosses of F1 to susceptible plants exhibited intermediate and susceptible phenotypes. The observed segregation ratios in F2 and test-cross populations fitted predicted segregation ratios, 1:2:1 (R:I:S) and 1:1 (I:S) respectively, showing that bipyridyl resistance is conferred by a single incompletely-dominant gene. Biotypes of paraquat-resistant and -susceptible H. leporinum were crossed reciprocally. F1 plants from reciprocal crosses showed an intermediate response to paraquat application. The F2 progeny showed segregation ratios that fitted the predicted segregation ratio of 1:2:1 (R:I:S) forinheritance of resistance being governed by a single partially-dominant gene.  相似文献

Spatial patterns of spread were compared between strains of Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) that differ in causing systemic necrotic (hypersensitive) or non‐necrotic symptoms in narrow‐leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius). Both types of BYMV were spread naturally by aphids from adjacent infected pasture into a large lupin block (‘natural spread site’), or from clover plants introduced as virus sources into two field experiments with lupin. Cumulative spatial data for plants with disease symptoms from a range of times in the growing period were assessed using Spatial Analysis by Distance IndicEs (SADIE). At the‘natural spread site’, with non‐necrotic BYMV, the extent of clustering of plants with symptoms increased gradually over time, while with necrotic BYMV there was less clustering and no increase over time. In both experiments, for the type of BYMV that was introduced into a plot, there was a gradual increase in clustering, but with this being greater with non‐necrotic BYMV. In the second experiment, there was also significant clustering of plants with symptoms of non‐necrotic BYMV in plots without introduced non‐necrotic foci but not for necrotic BYMV in plots without introduced necrotic foci. When clustering data for plants with newly recorded symptoms was tested for spatial association between successive assessment dates, association was positive for both BYMV types though stronger for the non‐necrotic type, declining as the temporal lag increased. Generally, association was strongest for assessments 2–3 wk apart, corresponding approximately to the period for BYMV to move systemically in plants and for obvious symptoms to appear in shoot tips. Contour maps for local association between dates showed that the strongest spatial associations were from coincidence of infection gaps rather than infection patches. The combination of information from clustering and association analysis showed that spread of non‐necrotic BYMV is less diffuse, with considerably more localised infection surrounding the infection sources. This work demonstrates how spatial virus spread can be diminished when hypersensitive (necrotic) resistance is deployed, and the limitations associated with employing hypersensitivity that is strain specific.  相似文献

The introduction into commerce of raspberry cultivars with major gene resistance to the large raspberry aphid, Amphorophora idaei, an important pest and virus vector on red raspberry in Europe, has been very effective both in decreasing pest numbers and greatly restricting infection with the viruses it transmits. However, biotypes of the aphid able to overcome these genes have developed in the field in recent years. Additionally, in field and laboratory tests, the response to aphid biotypes and recognised aphid strains of certain raspberry cultivars, such as Glen Prosen and Delight, differ markedly despite the fact that they are reputed to contain the same A. idaei‐resistance gene, A1. In attempts to understand the reasons for this difference in response, analysis was made of the segregation of progeny seedlings from crosses between A. idaei‐resistant and ‐susceptible cultivars to two recognised strains of the aphid. These studies showed that, as expected, cv. Autumn Bliss contained the A. idaei‐resistance gene, A10, and cvs Delight and Glen Prosen each contained the A. idaei‐resistance gene, A1. When progeny seedlings were assayed in a heated glasshouse as young plants and in an unheated Tygan house as 1 m tall plants, the segregation ratios for resistance and susceptibility to A. idaei were largely unchanged. However, when the resistance of individual progeny plants was assessed, c. 37% of the putative gene A1‐containing progeny and 9–23% of the putative gene A10‐containing progeny, behaved differently in these two environments. Experiments involving an A. idaei‐resistant and ‐susceptible parent cultivar showed that shading plants increased their susceptibility to A. idaei colonisation. Whilst this shading effect has implications for experimentally detecting A. idaei‐resistant progeny in segregating raspberry seedlings, it does not explain the difference in field resistance to A. idaei of cvs Delight and Glen Prosen. Such differences in the field seem best explained by the presence in these cultivars of ‘minor’ genes for A. idaei resistance and/or susceptibility that influences the effectiveness of gene A1.  相似文献

The dominant mutant genes responsible for the spring habit were studied in seven rye plants according to the developed scheme of two-step crosses and analysis of the F2 progeny. The genotypes with a particular genetic formula (heterozygote) were obtained by crossing the studied plants with the winter rye Korotkostebel’naya 69 carrying the recessive genes that control the winter habit of plants. Heterozygotes yielded by different combinations were crossed with each other. The F1 hybrids were either self-pollinated to obtain F2 progeny or crossed with the winter rye. Analysis of the progeny suggests that all seven plants carry the same gene.  相似文献

Abstract

So far, many QTL mapping studies in tomato have been performed for progeny obtained from crosses between two genetically distant parents, e.g., domesticated tomatoes and wild relatives. However, QTL information of quantitative traits related to yield (e.g., flower or fruit number, and total or average weight of fruits) in such intercross populations would be of limited use for breeding commercial tomato cultivars because individuals in the populations have specific genetic backgrounds underlying extremely different phenotypes between the parents such as large fruit in domesticated tomatoes and small fruit in wild relatives, which may not be reflective of the genetic variation in tomato breeding populations. In this study, we constructed F2 population derived from a cross between two commercial F1 cultivars in tomato to extract QTL information practical for tomato breeding. This cross corresponded to a four-way cross, because the four parental lines of the two F1 cultivars were considered to be the founders. We developed 2510 new expressed sequence tag (EST)-based (euchromatin-derived) genomic SSR markers and selected 262 markers from these new SSR markers and publicly available SSR markers to construct a linkage map. QTL analysis for ten agricultural traits of tomato was performed based on the phenotypes and marker genotypes of F2 plants using a flexible Bayesian method. As results, 13 QTL regions were detected for six traits by the Bayesian method developed in this study.

In a study of androgenesis in 90 Norwegian genotypes of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), heritabilities ranged from h b 2 =0.46 to 0.80. Very high or completely positive genotypic correlations were found between most characters of androgenetic response (e.g. embryo-like structures per 100 anthers, plants per 100 embryo-like structures, albino plants per 100 anthers, green plants per 100 anthers). Three genotypes, 2 Norwegian (7-5 and 9-5) and 1 Danish (245), which had significantly different androgenetic responses were selected to study the genetic control of the processes. Genotypes 7-5 and 9-5 were highly embryogenie, 7–5 and 245 were relatively high producers of green plants, while 9-5 was unable to produce green plants. The six possible reciprocal crosses between these three genotypes were made, and 10 or 11 F1 plants from each cross were used for anther culture experiments. The cross 7-5 x 245 showed average superiority over both parents for total plant regeneration and green plant production, results not previously reported. The phenotypic correlations estimated among progenies from the crosses ranged from r=-0.99*** to 0.81***. These considerable changes, relative to the results of the screening experiment, are most likely the result of changed allele frequencies caused by the strong selection of parents in these crosses, and a relatively simple genetical control. Populations of predominantly selfing plant species often show spatial genetic structure but little is known whether epistatic gene interactions are spatially structured. To detect a possible epistatic effect and a spatial scale at which it operates, we created artificial crosses between plants spanning a range of fixed distances from 1 to 400 m in three populations of wild barley. The self-pollinated and crossed progeny (F1) and two generations of segregated progeny (F2 and F3) were tested in experimentally simulated population environments for relative performance (RP). The measured fitness traits included number of seeds, total seed weight and seed germination. For any of these traits, there was no association between RP of F1, F2 and F3 plants and either pairwise kinship coefficients or crossing distance. In contrast, in all three populations, we found lower seed viability of outcrossed as compared with self-pollinated genotypes in the first generation of segregation. However, in the F3 generation this outbreeding effect disappeared in the two populations and greatly decreased in the third population. For seed production, heterosis in F1 and outbreeding depression in F2 were observed only in the population with unusually high number of heterozygotes. Our findings support the view that in selfing species a spatial mosaic of various locally abundant genotypes represents not randomly fixed combinations of alleles but the co-adapted gene complexes that were sieved by selection, while heterozygotes are characteristic for the transient phase of this process, when segregation and purging of maladaptive genotypes have not yet occurred.  相似文献

Summary Nitrogen fixation is generally considered to be a major parameter of productivity in soybean (Glycine max). The aim of the investigations reported here was to analyse the genetic behaviour of this trait in view of its possible use as an indirect criterion of selection for productivity. Divergent selection for nitrogen fixation rate was carried out on F2 populations obtained from crosses between high-yielding cultivars that are well adapted to French climatic conditions. The genetic component of nitrogen fixation and yield was isolated through the analysis of (1) the nitrogen fixation potentials of the genotypes under controlled conditions and (2) the field yields under favourable conditions. Divergent selection resulted in two groups of genotypes whose nitrogen fixation abilities are significantly different. The F6 filial progeny obtained by single seed descent from the two groups displayed significantly different abilities for nitrogen fixation and for field productivity. The gain achieved for the nitrogen fixation activity with respect to the mean value of the parents ranged from 20% to 33% for the positive selection, depending on the crosses. The occurrence of positive and significant correlations between the level of nitrogen fixation activity in F2 plants and N2 fixation or yield in the F6 generation corroborates the relatively high heritability of this trait and suggests its possible use as an indirect selection criterion for yield.  相似文献

The inheritance of resistance to lettuce root aphid, Pemphigus bursarius, was studied in lettuce using the Wellesbourne cultivars Avondefiance and Avoncrisp as resistant parents and Borough Wonder and Webb's Wonderful as aphid-susceptible parents. All four cultivars were crossed in all possible combinations including reciprocals and the response to root aphid of plants in the P1F1F2 and BC generations was assessed using apterae of P. bursarius from the lettuce cv. Iceberg. Resistance to attack was clearly inherited and the parents appeared to be homozygous for their resistance or susceptibility. In the F1 generation, however, in all crosses between resistant and susceptible parents, segregation into susceptible, resistant and some slightly less resistant plants occurred. This and the highly significant differences in segregation between pairs of reciprocal crosses in the F1 and other generations indicate that the inheritance of resistance to root aphid is controlled by extra-nuclear factors. Modifying genes might also be involved but there appears to be no linkage of root aphid resistance with resistance to downy mildew, for which the Wellesbourne lettuces were bred.  相似文献

Although aphids are worldwide crop pests, little is known about aphid effector genes underlying virulence and avirulence. Here we show that controlling the genetics of both aphid and host can reveal novel recombinant genotypes with previously undetected allelic variation in both virulence and avirulence functions. Clonal F1 progeny populations were derived from reciprocal crosses and self-matings between two parental genotypes of pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum) differing in virulence on a Medicago truncatula host carrying the RAP1 and RAP2 resistance genes. These populations showed Mendelian segregation consistent with aphid performance being controlled largely by a dominant virulence allele derived from only one parent. Altered segregation ratios on near-isogenic host genotypes differing in the region carrying RAP1 were indicative of additional heritable functions likely related to avirulence genes originating from both parents. Unexpectedly, some virulent F1 progeny were recovered from selfing of an avirulent parent, suggesting a reservoir of cryptic alleles. Host chlorosis was associated with virulence, whereas necrotic hypersensitive-like response was not. No maternal inheritance was found for any of these characteristics, ruling out sex-linked, cytoplasmic, and endosymbiotic factors. Our results demonstrate the tractability of dissecting the genetic basis of pest-host resistance mechanisms and indicate that the annual sexual cycle in aphids may lead to frequent novel genotypes with both increased and decreased virulence. Availability of genomes for both pest and host can facilitate definition of cognate gene-for-gene relationships, potentially leading to selection of crop genotypes with multiple resistance traits.  相似文献

Geographically separated populations of the intertidal copepod Tigriopus californicus are sharply differentiated at several enzyme-encoding gene loci. Two studies were performed to investigate the extent to which the gene pools of local populations are organized into harmoniously interacting (or “coadapted”) gene complexes. In the first, the effects of interpopulation hybridization on development time were assessed. Results showed that while F1 hybrids did not differ from parental lines, mean F2 developmental times were as much as 50% longer. The second study used two unlinked enzyme polymorphisms as genetic markers to determine the genotypic specificity of F2 hybrid breakdown. For two sets of parental populations, the relative viabilities of the different two-locus genotypes were determined from segregation ratios among the F2 progeny. Sharp deviations from Mendelian ratios were observed; in the extreme, a block of genes marked by the MeF allozyme from the LJ (La Jolla) population was found to be nearly lethal when homozygous in the F2 of LJ × AB (Los Angeles) crosses. This same block of genes had a tenfold higher viability in crosses between LJ and SC (Santa Cruz). In the AB × LJ crosses, the two marker loci had independent (multiplicative) effects on viability. In the SC × LJ crosses, deviations from the multiplicative model were observed; the data indicate that parental homozygous genotypes have higher viability than predicted by independence, while nonparental homozygotes have lower than predicted viability. These results suggest that substantial integration of the genome has occurred within natural T. californicus populations.  相似文献

To study stability and inheritance of two different transgenes in barley, we crossed a homozygous T8 plant, having uidA (or gus) driven by the barley endosperm-specific B1-hordein promoter (localized in the near centromeric region of chromosome 7H) with a second homozygous T4 plant, having sgfp(S65T) driven by the barley endosperm-specific D-hordein promoter (localized on the subtelomeric region of chromosome 2H). Both lines stably expressed the two transgenes in the generations prior to the cross. Three independently crossed F1 progeny were analyzed by PCR for both uidA and sgfp(S65T) in each plant and functional expression of GUS and GFP in F2 seeds followed a 3:1 Mendelian segregation ratio and transgenes were localized by FISH to the same location as in the parental plants. FISH was used to screen F2 plants for homozygosity of both transgenes; four homozygous plants were identified from the two crossed lines tested. FISH results showing presence of transgenes were consistent with segregation ratios of expression of both transgenes, indicating that the two transgenes were expressed without transgene silencing in homozygous progeny advanced to the F3 and F4 generations. Thus, even after crossing independently transformed, homozygous parental plants containing a single, stably expressed transgene, progeny were obtained that continued to express multiple transgenes through generation advance. Such stability of transgenes, following outcrossing, is an important attribute for trait modification and for gene flow studies.  相似文献

 Stearic acid is one of the two saturated fatty acids found in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] oil, with its content in the seed oil of commercial cultivars averaging 4.0%. Two mutants, KK-2 and M25 with two- and six-fold higher stearic acid contents in the seed oil than cv ‘Bay’, were identified after X-ray seed irradiation. Our objective was to determine the genetic control of high stearic acid content in these mutants. Reciprocal crosses were made between each mutant and ‘Bay’, and between the two mutants. No maternal effect for stearic acid content was observed from the analysis of F1 seeds in any of the crosses. Low stearic acid content in ‘Bay’ was partially dominant to high stearic acid content in KK-2 and M25, and high stearic acid content in KK-2 was partially dominant to high stearic acid content in M25. Cytoplasmic effects were not observed, as demonstrated by the lack of reciprocal cross differences for stearic acid content in our analysis of F2 seeds from F1 plants. The stearic acid content in F2 seeds of KK-2בBay’ and M25בBay’ crosses segregated into three phenotypic classes which satisfactorily fit a 1:2:1 ratio, indicating that high stearic acid content in KK-2 and M25 was controlled by recessive alleles at a single locus. The data for stearic acid content in F2 seeds of the KK-2×M25 cross satisfactorily fit a 3:9:1:3 phenotypic ratio. The F2 segregation ratio and the segregation of F3 seeds from individual F2 plants indicated that KK-2 and M25 have different alleles at different loci for stearic acid content. The alleles in KK-2 and M25 have been designated as st 1 and st 2, respectively. The stearic acid content (>30.0%) found in the st 1 st 1 st 2 st 2 genotype is the highest known to date in soybean, but it was not possible to develop the line with this genotype because the irregular seeds failed to grow into plants after germination. Patterns of spread of Bean yellow mosaic virus (necrotic type, BYMV‐N) and Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) were examined in stands of narrow‐leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) where naturally occurring aphid vectors moved them from external or internal primary virus sources. The lupin stands were: commercial crops near BYMV‐infected clover pasture with or without an intervening non‐host barrier crop; a large rectangular block with BYMV‐N and CMV sources on opposite sides and a narrow, non‐host barrier crop facing the BYMV‐N source; and a plot within which seed‐infected lupin plants acted as internal CMV sources. When BYMV‐N spread into commercial crops in the absence of a non‐host barrier, there was a steep decline in its incidence with distance from the crop edge. However, when a 20 m‐wide perimeter barrier of oats intervened between the two, there was only a shallow decline. When CMV and BYMV‐N spread from opposite directions into a block with a 0.25 m‐wide oat barrier between it and the BYMV‐N source, the BYMV‐N incidence gradient was shallow but in the opposite direction the CMV gradient was steep. When CMV spread from primary sources within a plot, infection was concentrated in large internal patches. Spread of BYMV‐N was more diffuse with more isolated symptomatic plants and small clusters than occurred with CMV, spread of which was more comprehensive, reacting the near monocyclic and polycyclic patterns of spread with BYMV‐N with CMV respectively. Spread of both viruses was greater along than across rows, especially with CMV. With BYMV‐N, three different phased cycles of secondary spread were evident in the individual symptomatic plants within the small clusters that formed away from the edges of lupin stands. These findings help validate inclusion of perimeter non‐host barriers within an integrated disease management strategy for BYMV‐N in lupin.  相似文献

Using detached leaves, two cultivars of pearl millet [Pennisetumamericanum (L.) Leeke], B282 and Serere 39, were assessed forvariation in the capacity to accumulate ABA in response to waterstress. Significant differences in ABA accumulation were detectedbetween cultivars and between different inbred lines withina cultivar, but within lines there was much less variation inthis character. In crosses between individual lines of B282(low ABA) and Serere 39 (high ABA), ABA accumulation in theF1 was mid-way between parental values, indicating additivegenetic control and lack of dominance. Selfed progeny of a B282 x Serere 39 cross were selected forcontrasting ABA accumulation in the F2 to F4 generations. Asixfold range in ABA accumulation was found amongst 207 F2 progeny.This increased to nearly ninefold at F3 and F4. Regression analysisindicated high heritability of ABA accumulation and rapid approachto homozygosity. As the cross studied involved a dwarf (B282) and a tall (Serere39) parent, segregation occurred for height as well as for ABA,though not entirely independently. Tall F3 progeny had significantlyhigher ABA contents than dwarf progeny and high ABA was thereforeassociated with other traits (e.g. large leaves, high leaf percent d. wt) characteristic of tall plants. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides causes anthracnose, the most severe foliar disease of field-grown water yam (Dioscorea alata). The inheritance of resistance to a moderately virulent (FGS) strain of the pathogen was investigated in crosses between tetraploid D. alata genotypes: TDa 95/00328 (resistant)×TDa 95–310 (susceptible) (cross A), and TDa 85/00257 (resistant)×TDa 92–2 (susceptible) (cross B). Segregation of F1 progeny fitted genetic ratios of 3:1, 5:1 (crosses A and B) and 7:1 (cross A) resistant:susceptible when inoculated with the FGS strain, indicating that resistance is dominantly inherited and suggesting that more than one gene controls the inheritance of resistance to this strain in the accessions studied. When parental and progeny lines of cross A were inoculated with an aggressive (SGG) strain of the pathogen, all plants expressed a susceptible phenotype, indicating strain-specific resistance in TDa 95/00328. Screening of 20 cultivars/landraces confirmed the high susceptibility of D. alata accessions to the SGG strain and revealed the presence of apparent strain non-specific resistance in TDa 85/00257. TDa 85/00257 and TDa 87/01091 which were resistant to the SGG strain, will be useful both as sources of resistance and in the development of a host differential series for D. alata. Genetic analysis was done on a number of nitrate tolerant supernodulating (nts) mutant soybean lines. These lines are altered in the autoregulation response, and each was isolated as a separate mutational event following chemical mutagenesis. Crosses were made betweennts lines on a diallel pattern, and each was also crossed usingnts lines as female parent, to wild-type nodulation cultivars. F1 and F2 data were analysed from each cross for nodulation type and number. No complementation was noted wherents lines were intercrossed, suggesting that in each line the same gene was affected. Wherents lines were crossed with wild-type cultivars all the F1 progeny were wild-type, confirming that thenls gene is recessive and, with one exception,nts 1116, all of the F2 progeny segregated into a 3:1 wild-type to supernodulating phenotype, indicating that a single gene is involved. The hypernodulating linents 1116 gave a 1:1 ratio in its F2 progeny when crossed with othernts lines. This line behaved as a dominant in the latter crosses. No wild-type segregants were recovered, therefore again no complementation look place. This line may be a leaky mutant with partial autoregulation as its segregation ratios do not fall into any of the obvious patterns.  相似文献
