Effects of Short-Term Over-supplementation of Copper in Milk on Hematology,Serum Proteins,Weight Gain,and Health in Dairy Calves 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Thirty-six calves were used in the present study. The animals were divided equally into three groups (control, test 1, and test 2). The three groups of calves were homogeneous for parity of dams, sex, and month of birth. From 14 days of age, in the test 1 group copper as copper sulfate (Merck Co, Germany) was added to each meal of milk at a rate of 10 mg/kg of milk for 14 days and in test 2 group copper as copper sulfate was added to each meal of milk at a rate of 20 mg/kg of milk for 14 days. Blood samples were taken by jugular venipuncture using disposable syringes at 14 (before Cu supplementation), 30, 60, and 80 days of age. Anticoagulated blood was used for CBC determination. Plane tubes were used for harvesting of serum and the amounts of total serum protein, albumin, iron, and copper were measured. Calves were weighted at birth and at the end of trial (day 80) and total gain and mean daily gain were calculated. Days of treatment for ill calves were also recorded during experiment. Group (treatment) had no significant effect on the amounts of measured parameters except MCH values (p < 0.05) which were significantly lower in test 1 group than other trial groups. Age (sampling time) had significant effects on the values of most measured parameters (p < 0.05) except WBC, lymphocyte, total protein, and fibrinogen. Significant interactions between sampling time and group were not seen for any of measured parameters. No significant differences were seen for total weight gain and mean daily gain between trial groups. Chi-square test revealed no significant difference for the days of treatment between trials groups. 相似文献

The effect of prolonged administration of dietary zinc in fattening pigs from 50 to 95 kg body weight was studied. No effect on daily weight gain was recorded. The concentration of zinc in different tissues did not increase. A slight increase of serum zinc was noted, but no other changes of the serum variables tested could be demonstrated. It was concluded that the amounts of zinc which are recommended for treatment of pigs with wasting syndrome do not introduce any significant accumulation of zinc in organs or tissues. 相似文献

The present study aims to examine the effect of zinc supplementation on the release of some cytokines in young wrestlers actively
involved in wrestling. A total of 40 male subjects of the same age group were included in the study: half were wrestlers and
the other half were not involved in sports. The subjects were equally divided into four groups and treated during an 8-week
period as follows: group 1, zinc-supplemented athletes; group 2, non-supplemented athletes; group 3, zinc-supplemented sedentary
subjects, and group 4, non-supplemented sedentary group. Blood samples were taken from each subject at the beginning and at
the end of the study period. The serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-2 (IL-2), and interpheron-γ levels (IFN-γ)
were determined using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. At the beginning of the study, there were no significant
differences of the measured parameters between the four study groups. At the end of the study, the levels of TNF-α, IL-2,
and IFN-γ were significantly higher in the two zinc-supplemented groups compared to those that did not receive supplementation,

A ginseng polysaccharide was extracted, purified, and modified by nitric acid-selenious acid (HNO3-H2SeO3) method to yield one selenylation-modified polysaccharide (sGP). We reported for the first time the anticancer potential of sGP on the human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cell line and evaluated its relevant underlying mechanism. Our results showed that sGP markedly inhibited the growth of HL-60 cells via induction of apoptosis. The event of apoptosis was accompanied by the formation of apoptotic bodies; the release of cytochrome c; loss of mitochondrial membrane potential; and activation of caspase-9, caspase-3, and cleavage of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) in HL-60 cells. In addition, western blot analysis showed that sGP inhibited antiapoptotic Bcl-2 protein expression and increased proapoptotic Bax protein expression in cells under identical conditions. Together, our study suggests that sGP induces apoptosis of HL-60 cells through the mitochondrial-dependent pathway. 相似文献

Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of congestive heart failure (CHF). Some trace elements serve as antioxidant
defenses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of atrial fibrillation (AF) on zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) levels
in patients with advanced CHF. In this prospective study, serum Zn and Cu levels in 78 patients with clinically advanced CHF,
i.e., New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class III or IV (40 patients with AF and 38 in sinus rhythm) were measured
using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. All patients also had a left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) of <35%. We recruited
40 volunteers with nearly the same age and weight as control. They had normal EF. There was no significant difference between
patients with AF and those with sinus rhythm regarding serum Zn and Cu levels. However, both groups showed significant hypozincemia
(p < 0.000) and a decreased Zn/Cu ratio (p < 0.03) compared with control group. Serum Cu levels were similar in the two groups and did not differ significantly from
the control group. In patients with advanced CHF, irrespective of the rhythm, profound hypozincemia, and a decreased Zn/Cu
ratio were present, which could be secondary to the activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system and CHF medications.
The results suggest the need for more studies focusing on possible benefits with Zn nutriceutical replacement in patients

This study aims to investigate the contents of trace elements in the brain and serum of male chickens and the effect of selenium–chromium(VI) interaction. A chronic experimental model was established by supplementing 22.14 mg/kg K2Cr2O7 with 0.00, 0.31, 0.63, 1.25, 2.50, and 5.00 mg/kg Na2SeO3 mg/kg B.W. to water for chicken daily. After 14, 28, and 42 days of exposure to the solution, the brain and serum of chickens from each group were collected to detect the levels of Ca, Cu, Mn, Fe, Zn, and Mg by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Cr(VI) time-dependently accumulated in the brain and serum. The contents of Cr increased both in the brain and serum with prolonged exposure. Cr contents in the brain and serum decreased in all Se groups compared with those in only Cr-treated groups. Ca contents decreased with prolonged exposure and increasing Se dosage. The contents of Cu and Mn increased on the 28th day but decreased on the 42nd day in the brain and serum. Fe and Zn contents decreased in the serum under prolonged exposure and increased on the 28th day but decreased on the 42nd day in the brain. Cr exposure did not significantly affect Mg contents in the brain but slightly decreased those in the serum. Therefore, appropriate doses of Se affected Cr accumulation, leading to adjustments in the contents and correlations of trace elements. 相似文献

Intense physical activity is associated with biological adaptations involving hormones and trace elements. Zinc supplementation
may affect plasma copper concentration, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid hormones, insulin, and glucose homeostasis,
but data in athletes are scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate in competitive athletes (cyclists, n = 7, 32 ± 8 years) the effect of zinc supplementation (22 mg/day as zinc gluconate) during 30 days, and discontinuation using
placebo (maltodextrin) during the following 30 days, on plasma zinc and copper concentrations, serum thyroid hormones, insulin
and glucose levels, and HOMA2-IR. Compared to baseline, plasma zinc and Zn:Cu plasma ratio increased, but plasma copper decreased
after zinc supplementation (day 30) and discontinuation (day 60) (p < 0.05). Zn supplementation and discontinuation had no effect on TSH, T3, and T4. Fasting serum insulin and HOMA2-IR increased
(27% and 47%, respectively) on day 60 compared to baseline (p = 0.03), suggesting a delayed effect of zinc supplementation. Moreover, plasma zinc was positively associated with serum
insulin (r = 0.87, p = 0.009) and HOMA2-IR (r = 0.81, p = 0.03) after zinc supplementation (day 30), indicating that supplemental zinc may impair glucose utilization in cyclists. 相似文献

Effects of Zinc Supplementation and Deficiency on Bone Metabolism and Related Gene Expression in Rat
One hundred male rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 25) and fed a Zn-adequate diet (ZA, 46.39 mg/kg), Zn-deficient diet (ZD, 3.20 mg/kg), Zn-overdose diet (ZO, 234.39 mg/kg),
or were pair-fed a Zn-adequate diet (PF) for 5 weeks, respectively. The body weight, femur weight, and activity of alkaline
phosphatase (ALP) were reduced in the ZD group but were increased in the ZO group. Zn concentrations in both liver and femur
were elevated in the ZO group, whereas femur Zn was decreased in the ZD group. The concentrations of calcium and phosphorus
were lower in the ZD than those in other groups. Serum calcium concentration was decreased in the ZD. The relative expression
level of ALP was decreased in both ZD and PF, and no significant differences were observed between ZO and ZA. Insulin-like
growth factor-I (IGF-I) mRNA level was reduced in the ZD but unchanged in the ZO and PF group. Zn deficiency also decreased
ALP mRNA level as compared with that of PF group. Carbonic anhydrase II mRNA level was not affected by Zn. Nevertheless, dietary
Zn influenced the growth, bone metabolism, and expression of IGF-I and ALP in male growing rats. 相似文献

An experimental model has been developed in which mice were chronically exposed to an ELF magnetic field, under controlled conditions, with the purpose of learning its effects on peripheral blood. The OF1 mice were continuously subjected for two generations to an external magnetic field of 15 μT (rms) and 50 Hz sinusoidal waves generated by a system of Helmholtz coils designed by our Institute (BIASC). The first generation of animals was exposed for a period of 17 weeks and the second generation, born in the field, was exposed for 14 weeks. The most usual hematological parameters of mothers (12 control and 12 exposed) and daughters (30 control and 30 exposed) were analyzed. A leukopenia in exposed daughters and significant variations of platelet levels between both experimental groups were noted. Besides a slight decrease in hematocrit, red blood cell levels and hemoglobin concentration have been observed in exposed mice. 目的测定自主建立的致癌性转基因动物模型C57-ras小鼠的血液生理生化值和主要脏器重量,计算脏器系数并作统计学分析。方法选取同窝C57-ras转基因阳性和阴性小鼠,雌雄各半,采血,测量血液生理指标和血清生化指标,并称主要脏器重量。结果 C57-ras转基因阳性雌鼠和阴性雌鼠间比较,NEUT、NEUT%存在显著性差异(P〈0.05),PCT存在极显著性差异(P〈0.01)。C57-ras转基因阳性雄鼠和阴性雄鼠间比较,RBC、HCT、PLT、PCT存在显著性差异(P〈0.05),MON%存在极显著性差异(P〈0.01)。血清生化指标中,ALT和TG存在显著性差异(P〈0.05)。主要脏器重量和脏器系数比较结果显示,除C57-ras转基因阳性雌鼠和阴性雌鼠在肺重量存在极显著性差异(P〈0.01)外,其余均无显著性差异(P〉0.05)。结论新建C57-ras致癌性转基因小鼠模型和正常C57BL/6小鼠的主要生物学特性基本一致,利于该模型在致癌性安全性评价等领域的实际应用。 相似文献

The prevalence of obesity in industrialized societies has become markedly elevated. In contrast, model organism research shows that reducing caloric intake below ad libitum levels provides many health and longevity benefits. Despite these benefits, few people are willing and able to reduce caloric intake over prolonged periods. Prior research suggests that mannooligosaccharide (MOS or mannan) supplementation can increase lifespan of some livestock and in rodents can reduce visceral fat without reducing caloric intake. Hence, we tested the effect of MOS supplementation as a possible calorie restriction (CR) mimetic (CRM) in mice. C57Bl/6J male mice were fed a high‐fat “western” type diet with or without 1% MOS (by weight) supplementation (n = 24/group) from 8 to 20 weeks of age. Animals were housed individually and provided 95% of ad libitum food intake throughout the study. Body weight was measured weekly and body composition (lean and fat mass) measured noninvasively every 3 weeks. Individual fat depot weights were acquired by dissection at study completion. Supplementation of a high‐fat diet with 1% MOS tended to reduce total food intake (mean ± s.d.; control (CON): 293.69 ± 10.53 g, MOS: 288.10 ± 11.82 g; P = 0.09) during the study. Moreover, MOS supplementation had no significant effect on final body weight (CON: 25.21 ± 2.31 g, MOS: 25.28 ± 1.49 g; P = 0.91), total fat (CON: 4.72 ± 0.90 g, MOS: 4.82 ± 0.83 g; P = 0.69), or visceral fat (CON: 1.048 ± 0.276 g, MOS: 1.004 ± 0.247 g; P = 0.57). Contrary to previous research, MOS supplementation had no discernable effect on body weight gain or composition during this 12‐week study, challenging the potential use of MOS as a CRM or body composition enhancer. 相似文献

Although so many studies exist on effect of fluoride on hematological parameters in experimental animals, a few studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of chronic fluorosis on hematological parameters in humans’ subjects with endemic fluorosis. So we aimed to determine the hematological parameters in patients with endemic fluorosis. The study group consisted of 60 patients with endemic fluorosis (27 females, 33 males, and mean age 33.4?±?9.6 years). An age-, gender-, and body mass index-matched control group was composed of 34 healthy volunteers (11 females, 23 males with a mean age 32.6?±?5.6 years). Urine fluoride levels of fluorosis patients were significantly higher than control subjects as expected (0.42?±?0.09 vs 1.92?±?0.14 mg/l, respectively; P?<?0.001). There were no statistically significant differences between the fluorosis group and control group with respect to hematological parameters (complete blood count and ferritin). We concluded that chronic fluorosis has no effect on hematological parameters in patients with endemic fluorosis. 相似文献

Twenty male buffalo calves (15 months, 200.2 ± 9.75) were divided into four groups of five animals in each and fed diets without
(T1) or supplemented with 0.3 ppm selenium (Se) + 40 ppm zinc (Zn) (T2), 0.3 ppm Se + 40 ppm Zn + 10 ppm copper (Cu) (T3),
and 40 ppm Zn + 10 ppm Cu (T4) for 120 days, during which blood samples were collected on days 0, 40, 80, and 120. Concentrations
of glucose, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, uric acid, and creatinine were similar in all the four groups. The level
of different serum enzymes viz. lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, and glutamate
oxaloacetate transaminase, and hormones viz. T3, T4, testosterone and insulin were similar (P > 0.05) among the four groups but the ratio of T4/T3 was reduced (P < 0.05) in the groups (T2 and T3) where selenium was supplemented at 120th day of supplementation. It was deduced that supplementation
of 0.3 ppm Se and/or 10.0 ppm of Cu with 40 ppm Zn had no effect on blood metabolic profile in buffalo calves, except the
ratio of T4 and T3 hormone which indicates that selenium plays an important role in converting T4 hormone to T3 which is more active form of thyroid hormone. 相似文献

Over 2 years, 32 beef cows nursing calves in southwest Arkansas were randomly selected from a herd of 120 that were managed in six groups and were assigned to six 5.1-ha bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon [L.] Pers.) pastures. Treatments were assigned to pastures (two pastures/treatment) and cows had ad libitum access to one of three free-choice minerals: (1) no supplemental selenium (Se), (2) 26 mg of supplemental Se from sodium selenite per kilogram, and (3) 26 mg of supplemental Se from seleno-yeast per kilogram (designed mineral intake?=?113 g/cow daily). Data were analyzed using a mixed model; year and pasture were the random effects and treatment was the fixed effect. At the beginning of the calving and breeding seasons, cows supplemented with Se had greater (P?<?0.01) whole blood Se concentration (WBSe) and glutathione peroxidase activities (GSH-Px) than cows receiving no supplemental Se; cows fed seleno-yeast had greater (P?≤?0.05) WBSe than cows fed sodium selenite, but GSH-Px did not differ (P?≥?0.25) between the two sources. At birth and near peak lactation (late May), calves from cows supplemented with Se had greater (P?<?0.01) WBSe than calves from cows fed no Se and calves from cows fed seleno-yeast had greater (P?≤?0.01) WBSe and GSH-Px than calves from cows fed sodium selenite. Thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), and the T4:T3 ratio in calves did not differ among treatments (P?≥?0.35). At birth, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) was greater (P?=?0.02) in calves nursing cows with no supplemental Se than in ones with supplemental Se; in calves nursing cows with supplemental sodium selenite, IGF-1 did not differ (P?=?0.96) from ones offered supplemental seleno-yeast. Selenium supplementation of gestating beef cows benefited cows and calves by increasing WBSe and GSH-Px. The use of seleno-yeast as a Se supplement compared to sodium selenite increased the WBSe of both cows and their calves without affecting the T4 to T3 conversion or IGF-1 concentrations. 相似文献

目的:B族维生素以辅酶的形式参与糖、脂肪和蛋白质代谢,本文观察硫胺素、核黄素和烟酰胺补充对高脂饲料诱导大鼠肥胖的影响。方法:采用预防肥胖模型法,2×2×2析因设计分为8组:高脂对照组(F0组),高脂+硫胺素(F1组),高脂+核黄素(F2组),高脂+烟酰胺(F3组),高脂+硫胺素+核黄素(F4组),高脂+硫胺素+烟酰胺(F5组),高脂+核黄素+烟酰胺(F6组),高脂+硫胺素+核黄素+烟酰胺(F7组),每组12只大鼠,给予高脂饲料喂养,同时硫胺素(100mg/kgbw/d)、核黄素(100mg/kgbw/d)、烟酰胺(250mg/kgbw/d)灌胃,另设正常对照组(C组)12只,普通饲料喂养,自来水灌胃,15周后,分析其体重、摄食量、体脂重量、血脂等实验前后的变化情况及各组动物之间的差别。结果:经过15周喂养后,高脂喂养大鼠体重比正常对照组平均增加了15.7%;而补充烟酰胺(F3)及联合硫胺素(F5)或核黄素(F6)以及三者联合补充(F7)组高脂喂养大鼠与高脂对照组(F0)相比,体重分别降低了35.0%,30.0%,30.1%和30.6%(P值均小于0.05);甚至比正常对照组大鼠平均体重分别下降了22.8%,17.0%,17.0%和17.7%(P值均小于0.05);而补充核黄素或和硫胺素组大鼠体重没有明显增加或降低(P值均大于0.05)。血脂分析结果显示高脂喂养并联合补充核黄素或/和烟酰胺和/或硫胺素组大鼠血清CHOL和LDL水平明显低于高脂对照组;而高脂喂养并联合补充烟酰胺(F3)及联合硫胺素(F5)或核黄素(F6)以及三者联合补充(F7)组大鼠LDL/HDL比值分别0.29、0.26、0.25和0.26,明显低于F0组的0.37(P值均小于0.05)。结论:大剂量烟酰胺可有效地调节血脂水平和控制肥胖大鼠的体重增长,而核黄素及硫胺素对控制肥胖 相似文献

In recent years, the use of both natural and synthetic zeolites in animal nutrition has increased mainly to improve their performance, health, and to protect against mycotoxin intoxication. Thirty calves were used in the present study for the determination of some physiologic effects of clinoptilolite supplementation. The animals were divided equally into three groups (control, test 1, and test 2). The three groups of calves were homogeneous for parity of dams, sex, and month of birth. For group test 1, clinoptilolite in the concentration of 2% of each colostrum meal was added for 48 h, and for group test 2, clinoptilolite in the concentration of 2% was added to each colostrum and milk meal for 14 days. Blood samples were taken from all calves 12 h after birth and at the end of the first, second, third, forth, fifth, and sixth weeks of life. Calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), sodium (Na), and potassium (K) were determined in the serum. For statistical analysis of data, a repeated measures approach using analysis of variance (ANOVA) with mixed linear models was used. Clinoptilolite supplementation had significant effect on the concentrations of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and iron. The concentrations of Fe significantly higher in test group 2 than other trial groups (p < 0.05). Calcium concentrations were significantly higher in serum of clinoptilolite-treated than control calves (p < 0.05). The concentrations of phosphorus were significantly lower in test groups than control group (p < 0.05). Sodium concentrations were significantly higher in clinoptilolite-supplemented groups than control calves (p < 0.05). Potassium and magnesium concentrations were not affected by clinoptilolite supplementation. Clinoptilolite supplementation could promote iron levels in serum and better hemopoiesis and prevent pathologic or physiologic drop of red blood cell (RBC) parameters in supplemented calves during a first few weeks of life. According to higher need and utilization of Ca in growing animals, clinoptilolite supplementation could increase available Ca. Based on the results of the present study and the importance of dietary phosphorus in many physiologic processes, the level of phosphorus in diet of neonatal dairy calves must be considered and adapted when clinoptilolite was supplemented. With an adequate supply of good quality drinking water, cattle can tolerate large quantities of dietary sodium chloride. Thus, it seems that significant increase in serum Na concentration during short-term supplementation of clinoptilolite in neonatal calves could be well tolerated without any adverse effects. 相似文献
