Mycena aphanes and Mycena exilis, belonging to section Filipedes and section Polyadelphia, are proposed as new species. They are described and illustrated and compared to other species in the two sections. Mycena aphanes is a strikingly characteristic Mycena with fulvous or yellowish brown colours of both pileus and stipe. Mycena exilis is characterized by its occurrence on fallen Salix leaves, a pale brown pileus, occasionally with a pale pink tinge, narrowly adnate lamellae, four-spored basidia, and the presence of clamp connections.

Temperature dependencies were established for the egg-to-mummy and mummy-to-adult phases, for mummy mortality, and for parasitism of Aphidius ervi Haliday, Aphidius rhopalosiphi De Stefani-Perez, and Praon volucre (Haliday) (Hymenoptera, Aphidiidae), three parasitoids of Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) (Homoptera, Aphididae), at 8°C, 12°C, 16°C, 20°C, and 25°C on winter wheat (cv. Haven). A physiological model described temperature-dependent development over the full temperature range, whereas a linear model was fitted for data above 8°C and used to estimate the lower temperature thresholds and day-degrees (° D) required for development. The thresholds for A. ervi were 2.2°C for egg-mummy development and 6.6°C for mummy-adult development, those for A. rhopalosiphi were 4.5°C and 7.2°C, and those for P. volucre were 3.8°C and 5.5°C. The time to develop into mummies and adults differed significantly between the three species: A. ervi development into mummies required an average of 159 ° D, while development into adults took an average of 73 ° D. The corresponding average times required for A. rhopalosiphi and P. volucre to develop mummies were 124° D and 126° D, while their development into adults required an average of 70° D and 150° D, respectively. Mummy mortality was 25–35% at 8°C and less at the higher temperatures tested, but began to increase again at 25°C, showing a quadratic relationship between mortality and temperature. Parasitization was very low or, in the case of P. volucre, absent up to 12°C and thereafter increased with increasing temperature. The relationship between parasitization, recorded as percent aphids mummified, and temperature was linear at the temperatures tested and depended on species. A. ervisuperparasitized 11.1% aphids at 20°C and 16.6% aphids at 25°C, whereas superparasitism was low in A. rhopalosiphi and absent in P. volucre. From 16°C to 25°C the P. volucre sex ratio increased. For A. ervi and A. rhopalosiphi there was no trend with temperature, but at 20°C and 25°C it was close to even. Field data for 1996 and 1997 allowed for a comparison of actual and expected emergence of overwintering mummies. In both years, parasitoids were predicted to have emerged from overwintering mummies well in advance of the onset of aphid infestation, and more than a month earlier than the first parasitized aphids were found in winter wheat. Observations from trap plants in other crops supported the predictions of the models. Other factors that can affect biological control by cereal aphid parasitoids are discussed.  相似文献

The response of effective quantum yield of photosystem 2 (F/Fm) to temperature was investigated under field conditions (1 950 m a.s.l.) in three alpine plant species with contrasting leaf temperature climates. The in situ temperature response did not follow an optimum curve but under saturating irradiances [PPFD >800 µìmol(photon) m–2s–1] highest F/Fm occurred at leaf temperatures below 10°C. This was comparable to the temperature response of antarctic vascular plants. Leaf temperatures between 0 and 15°C were the most frequently (41 to 56%) experienced by the investigated species. At these temperatures, F/Fm was highest in all species (data from all irradiation classes included) but the species differed in the temperature at which F/Fm dropped below 50% (Soldanella pusilla >20°C, Loiseleuria procumbens >25°C, and Saxifraga paniculata >40°C). The in situ response of F/Fm showed significantly higher F/Fm values at saturating PPFD for the species growing in full sunlight (S. paniculata and L. procumbens) than for S. pusilla growing under more moderate PPFD. The effect of increasing PPFD on F/Fm, for a given leaf temperature, was most pronounced in S. pusilla. Despite the broad diurnal leaf temperature amplitude of alpine environments, only in S. paniculata did saturating PPFD occur over a broad range of leaf temperatures (43 K). In the other two species it was half of that (around 20 K). This indicates that the setting of environmental scenarios (leaf temperature×PPFD) in laboratory experiments often likely exceeds the actual environmental demand in the field. This revised version was published online in March 2005 with corrections to the page numbers.  相似文献

The angular distribution of the optical axes of the ommatidia in the eyes of waterstriders (Gerris lacustris) has been investigated using antidromic illumination.
1.  Each eye contains about 920 ommatidia arranged in approximately 40 nearly horizontal rows (Figs. 5, 6).
2.  There is an acute zone (visual streak) of ±5° around the eye equator with high vertical resolution (Fig. 9).
3.  The horizontal interommatidial angle oh varies little with altitude and is in the frontal parts of the eye equal to the (horizontal) interrhabdomere angle rh (Fig. 10).
4.  Above and below the visual streak the eye is adapted to the perception of relative height or depth constancy (Fig. 13).
5.  Reconstruction of the viewing directions of the rhabdomeres in the visual streak reveals that characteristic groups of rhabdomeres in different ommatidia coincide in their receptive fields. Optical prerequisites for two types of neural superposition can be found: one of medium neural summation but highest sampling frequency, the other of highest neural summation at the cost of resolution (Fig. 11).
6.  The correspondence of the limits of resolution due to diffraction and finite sampling frequency is discussed.

The mangrove killifish Rivulus marmoratus was reared at 25°±1°C and 17ppt salinity from 0 to 100 days after hatching (DAH), and its early development was described by examining growth and morphometric parameters, meristic characters (vertebral and fin-ray counts), bone-cartilage development, and pigmentation. Growth was isometric for preanal length, head length, snout length, body depth, pectoral-fin length, dorsal-fin length, anal-fin length, and caudal-peduncle depth. Negative allometric growth was observed in eye diameter and gape size. Meristic counts (mean±SD) for vertebrae (34.2±0.4) and dorsal- (8.6±0.5), anal- (11.4±0.5), and caudal-fin rays (30.2±0.8) were complete at 0 DAH (n=5), whereas pectoral-fin rays and pelvic-fin rays were complete by 30 DAH (14.5±0.4, n=5) and 60 DAH (4.2±0.8, n=5). Full ossification of meristic elements proceeded in the following sequence: vertebrae (by 30 DAH), caudal-, dorsal-, and anal-fin rays (by 60 DAH), pectoral-fin rays (between 60 DAH and 100 DAH), and pelvic-fin rays (by 100 DAH). Both morphological characters and meristic counts indicate that this species can be considered to be a juvenile after 9.8mm in standard length (20 DAH).  相似文献

A new bythitid genus and species, Tuamotuichthys bispinosus, is described from an adult male (88mm SL), caught by dredge in 1990, off Morane Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago (23°0843 S, 137°0919 W, 536m). It is characterized by having large scales on head and body, two opercular spines, few gill rakers (total 11, 3 of them long), depressed head, vertically expanded posterior maxilla, and a short predorsal (29% SL), each of which resembles several known genera (Calamopteryx, Cataetyx, Diplacanthopoma, Grammonus, and Lucifuga). The combination of character states, however, does not fit any of the known bythitid genera.  相似文献

Tissue-cultured plantlets of three sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) cultivars having a known field smut reaction were screened for susceptibility to Ustilago scitaminea H&P Sydow. Plantlets were inoculated with 0.5 l of a suspension of equally mixed quantities of plus and minus mating type sporidia of U. scitaminea at concentrations ranging from 1×101 to 1×106 cells. Fungal sori (whips) were produced in cultivar N12 (intermediate) 6weeks following inoculation with 1×105 mixed sporidia and thereafter in cultivar NCo310 (susceptible) but not in cultivar N19 (resistant). Sori bearing teliospores were produced up to 3months following inoculation and incubation at 26°C. No sori were produced at mixed sporidial concentrations lower than 1×105cells. The in vitro soral production in cultivars N19, N12 and NCo310 was 0, 27.5 and 47.5% respectively. Plantlets inoculated with 1×105sporidia of only one mating-type did not produce sori in any of the three cultivars tested. Blind scoring of an unknown sugarcane cultivar by this method corresponded exactly with its field smut rating.  相似文献

The Gram-positive pathogen Clostridium perfringens is a major cause of human and veterinary enteric disease largely because this bacterium can produce several toxins when present inside the gastrointestinal tract. The enteric toxins of C. perfringens share two common features: (1) they are all single polypeptides of modest (~25–35 kDa) size, although lacking in sequence homology, and (2) they generally act by forming pores or channels in plasma membranes of host cells. These enteric toxins include C. perfringens enterotoxin (CPE), which is responsible for the symptoms of a common human food poisoning and acts by forming pores after interacting with intestinal tight junction proteins. Two other C. perfringens enteric toxins, -toxin (a bioterrorism select agent) and -toxin, cause veterinary enterotoxemias when absorbed from the intestines; - and -toxins then apparently act by forming oligomeric pores in intestinal or extra-intestinal target tissues. The action of a newly discovered C. perfringens enteric toxin, 2 toxin, has not yet been defined but precedent suggests it might also be a pore-former. Experience with other clostridial toxins certainly warrants continued research on these C. perfringens enteric toxins to develop their potential as therapeutic agents and tools for cellular biology.

An Arctic clone ofPhaeocystis pouchetii LAGERHEIM was compared toPhaeocystis globosa SCHERFFEL isolated from the southern North Sea with regard to temperature tolerance and colony shapes. Already youngP.pouchetii colonies (<100 m) show the typical distribution of the cells in groups, separated from each other by wide zones of cell-free mucilage; the maximum colony size is ca 2 mm in diameter.P.pouchetii colonies form clouds with bubble-like vesicles, spherical colony-shapes are seldom found.P.globosa colonies are spherical up to a size of 2 mm; the cells are distributed homogeneously over the periphery of the colonies. A pouchetii-like distribution of cells never occurs either in the spherical young colonies or in the pear-shaped old colonies (size up to 8 mm). A development from the colony shape of the globosa-type to the pouchetii-type or vice versa was never found. Therefore the colony shape has to be considered a constant distinctive character. Single cells ofP.pouchetii andP.globosa cannot be separated from each other by using the light microscope; this also holds for the flagellates and the non-motile cells.P.pouchetii grows well between 0°C and 14°C,P.globosa between 4°C and 22°C, respectively. Because of the distinctive differences in the morphology of the colonies and the differences in temperature tolerances we propose thatPhaeocystis globosa should no longer be considered conspecific withPhaeocystis pouchetii.  相似文献

The sexual pattern and sexual development of the leopard grouper, Mycteroperca rosacea, were investigated from 483 specimens collected from the Gulf of California, Mexico. Histological and population data indicated a gonochoric sexual pattern. Some juveniles passed through an immature bisexual phase of gonadal development, but no evidence of post-maturational sex change was found. The immature bisexual phase is believed to be associated only with male development. The size distribution and size at sexual maturity were similar for both males and females. In accordance with predictions of the size-advantage model, the gonochoric sexual pattern of M. rosacea is likely influenced by its group-spawning mating system.

Methanogens growing on C-1 substrates synthesize 2-carbon acetyl groups in the form of acetyl-CoA for carbon assimilation using the multienzyme complex acetyl-CoA decarbonylase/synthase (ACDS) which contains five different subunits encoded within an operon. In species growing on acetate ACDS also functions to cleave the acetate C-C bond for energy production by methanogenesis. A number of species of Methanosarcina that are capable of growth on either C-1 compounds or acetate contain two separate ACDS operons, and questions have been raised about whether or not these operons play separate roles in acetate synthesis and cleavage. Methanosarcina thermophila genomic DNA was analyzed for the presence of two ACDS operons by PCR amplifications with different primer pairs, restriction enzyme analyses, DNA sequencing and Southern blot analyses. A single ACDS operon was identified and characterized, with no evidence for more than one. MALDI mass spectrometric analyses were carried out on ACDS preparations from methanol- and acetate-grown cells. Peptide fragmentation patterns showed that the same ACDS subunits were present regardless of growth conditions. The evidence indicates that a single form of ACDS is used both for acetate cleavage during growth on acetate and for acetate synthesis during growth on C-1 substrates. Predictive performance modelling of parallel component compositions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Large-scale scientific computing applications frequently make use of closely-coupled distributed parallel components. The performance of such applications is therefore dependent on the component parts and their interaction at run-time. This paper describes a methodology for predictive performance modelling and evaluation of parallel applications composed of multiple interacting components. In this paper, the fundamental steps and required operations involved in the modelling and evaluation process are identified—including component decomposition, component model combination, M×N communication modelling, dataflow analysis and overall performance evaluation. A case study is presented to illustrate the modelling process and the methodology is verified through experimental analysis.

We have taken a systematic genetic approach to study the potential role of glutathione metabolism in aluminum (Al) toxicity and resistance, using disruption mutants available in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast disruption mutants defective in phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases (PHGPX; phgpx1 , phgpx2 , and phgpx3), were tested for their sensitivity to Al. The triple mutant, phgpx1 /2/3, was more sensitive to Al (55% reduction in growth at 300 M Al) than any single phgpx mutant, indicating that the PHGPX genes may collectively contribute to Al resistance. The hypersensitivity of phgpx3 to Al was overcome by complementation with PHGPX3, and all PHGPX genes showed increased expression in response to Al in the wild-type strain (YPH250), with maximum induction of approximately 2.5-fold for PHGPX3. Both phgpx3 and phgpx1/2/3 mutants were sensitive to oxidative stress (exposure to H2O2 or diamide). Lipid peroxidation was also increased in the phgpx1/2/3 mutant compared to the parental strain. Disruption mutants defective in genes for glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) (gtt1 and gtt2), glutathione biosynthesis (gsh1 and gsh2), glutathione reductase (glr1) and a glutathione transporter (opt1) did not show hypersensitivity to Al relative to the parental strain BY4741. Interestingly, a strain deleted for URE2, a gene which encodes a prion precursor with homology to GSTs, also showed hypersensitivity to Al. The hypersensitivity of the ure2 mutant could be overcome by complementation with URE2. Expression of URE2 in the parental strain increased approximately 2-fold in response to exposure to 100 M Al. Intracellular oxidation levels in the ure2 mutant showed a 2-fold (non-stressed) and 3-fold (when exposed-to 2 mM H2O2) increase compared to BY4741; however, the ure2 mutant showed no change in lipid peroxidation compared to the control. The phgpx1/2/3 and ure2 mutants both showed increased accumulation of Al. These findings suggest the involvement of PHGPX genes and a novel role of URE2 in Al toxicity/resistance in S. cerevisiae.Communicated by D.Y. Thomas  相似文献

A 1.2 kb DNA fragment coding for the pro-peptide and mature keratinase from Bacillus licheniformis PWD-1 (kerA) was cloned into vectors pPICZA and pGAPZA for extracellular expression in the methylotrophic yeast, Pichia pastoris. Recombinant keratinase was secreted by the pPICZA-kerA transformants 24 h after methanol induction of shake-flask cultures, and reached a final yield of 124 mg l–1 (285 U ml–1) 144 h after the induction. The recombinant keratinase was glycosylated ( 39 kDa), and was optimal between pH 8.5–9.5 and between 55°C –60°C using azokeratin as substrate. The enzyme degraded bovine serum albumin, collagen, and soy protein concentrate. In conclusion, P. pastoris can be used as an efficient host to express keratinase for nutritional and environmental applications.  相似文献

Culture experiments were carried out with Acropora sp. (a branching scleractinian coral) in seawater at two pCO2 conditions (438 and 725 µatm) and two temperatures (25 and 28 °C) in order to establish the pH and temperature dependence of the boron isotopic composition of the skeleton. A clear pCO2 effect, but no temperature effect, on the coral boron isotope composition is seen. For corals cultured at normal pCO2 (438 µatm), the 11B of the skeleton was 24.0±0.2 at 25 °C, and 23.9±0.3 at 28 °C. The values of 11B measured for corals cultured at higher pCO2 (725 µatm) were lower: 22.5±0.1, and 22.8±0.1 at 25 and 28 °C, respectively. The 11B of corals cultivated at both high and normal pCO2 conditions are consistent with a dominant pH control, and are very close to that calculated from theoretical considerations. Thus, the corals do not seem to significantly alter ambient seawater for calcification with respect to pH. Co-variation between boron and carbon isotope values is explored.Communicated by: Guest Editor A. Grottoli  相似文献

Aglaia bourdillonii is a plant narrowly endemic to the southern portion of the Western Ghats (WG), in peninsular India. To understand its ecological and geographic distribution, we used ecological niche modeling (ENM) based on detailed distributional information recently gathered, in relation to detailed climatic data sets. The ENMs successfully reconstructed key features of the species’ geographic distribution, focusing almost entirely on the southern WG. Much of the species’ distributional potential is already under protection, but our analysis allows identification of key zones for additional protection, all of which are adjacent to existing protected areas. ENM provides a useful tool for understanding the natural history of such rare and endangered species.

Summary A comparative study was made of the photoperiodic and thermoperiodic induction of diapause in the phytoseiid mite Amblyseius potentillae. Sensitivity to thermoperiod was found to be highest during the protonymphal and deutonymphal stages, with some sensitivity still being present in the young adult. Summation of both photoperiodic and thermoperiodic cycles was shown to take place, which demonstrated the presence of a photoperiodic counter as well as a thermoperiodic counter in these mites. Vitamin A appeared to be necessary for some early step in the physiological mechanism of diapause induction and not just for the expression of the diapause response. The light sensitivity threshold for photoperiodic induction of diapause was found to be extremely low, viz. less than 0.02 W/cm2. Moreover, the light sensitivity threshold appeared to be strongly temperature dependent in A. potentillae. Experiments in which the mites experienced various sequences of short-day photoperiods and short-day thermoperiods, applied either concurrently or in succession, showed that the information collected by the photoperiodic counter and the thermoperiodic counter is integrated into one induction sum. These results strongly suggest that photoperiodic and thermoperiodic induction of diapause in these mites is based on the same physiological mechanism.Abbreviations DD continuous darkness - LL continuous light - LD light-dark cycle (e.g. LD 16:8 is a cycle of 16 h of light and 8 h of darkness) - TC thermoperiodic cycle (e.g. TC 16:8 (27°: 15°) is a thermoperiod with a 16 h thermophase of 27 °C and an 18 h cryophase of 15°C)  相似文献

Porphyra vietnamensis Tanaka & Pham-Hoang Ho is a tropical species of high potential for farming. Studies of the life cycle have been conducted for many years but have not been successful until recently. Mature thalli were collected from Songkhla, in the southern part of Thailand, and were used to obtain Conchocelis in the laboratory in Bangkok. Conchocelis in shells as well as free-floating filaments could be observed after one week of incubation at 25 °C, 25 salinity and 350–500 lux light intensity, and covered the culture shell surface within 2 months. Conchosporangia were formed after being incubated for 10 days at 30 °C, 20 salinity under light intensities of 350–500 lux with a photoperiod of 12 hours a day. Induction of conchospore release was achieved by lowering the temperature to 25 °C and the salinity to 10–15 and increasing the light intensity to 800–1000 lux. Liberated conchospores germinated into young thalli which became mature after 70 days.  相似文献

Summary A study was made of the effect of genotype and temperature (25 and 17°C) on sex ratio in the hybrids D. virilis Sturt. X D. littoralis Sokolov. A genetic system has been found controlling sex-differential viability. In the F1 of the reciprocal hybrids D. virilis X D. littoralis the sex ratio is normal, though at 17°C females are slightly excessive. The abnormal sex ratio is observed only in the progeny of test crosses. The major gene causing the death of female progeny of the cross [ (, D. virilis x , D. littoralis) x D. virilis] x D. littoralis is located on chromosome 2 of D. virilis. It is expressed as a lethal if chromosome 5 is heterogeneous virilis-littoralis. Chromosome 3 of D. virilis bears a modifier-enhancer and chromosome 5, a suppressor, of this lethal found in chromosome 2. This genetic system has a maternal effect and functions at 25°C, interacting with the X-chromosome of D. littoralis. If the maintainance temperature is lowered to 17°C, the progeny of the cross hybrid FB1 x D. littoralis is predominantly female. Partial death of males is accounted for by a disturbance in the interaction between the genes of X-chromosome in certain combinations with the D. virilis autosomes and the Y-chromosome of the paternal species D. littoralis.Sex-differential mortality in the hybrids D. virilis x D. littoralis is one of the isolating factors between these species which does not appear to act until the second and subsequent F1 generations due to the formation of the recombination load.  相似文献
