The first large plant collection from Niue Island was made by F. Jensen in 1876. It is conserved in London. This list totals 43 species, including 8 new island records and 1 new species,Myoporum niueanum.     

A new species of Brachydontium from Australia

Abstract

A new species (Brachydontium intermedium) is described. It is the first record of the genus for Australia and a comparison is made with the other two species, both from the Northern hemisphere.     

A synopsis of Costa Rican Ruellia (Acanthaceae), with descriptions of four new species

We describe four new species of Ruellia from Costa Rica; three from the Osa Peninsula, Puntarenas province (R. exilis, R. mira, R. odorata), and one from the southwestern corner of San José province (R. norvegigratiosa). Ruellia matagalpae is reported as a new record for the country. New combinations are made in Ruellia for the two Costa Rican species of Blechum (R. blechum and R. costaricensis). Three species are reduced to synonymy, and another species is considered doubtfully worthy of recognition. Notable range extensions are reported for two species. Corollas and fruits of all 22 Costa Rican species of Ruellia are shown and compared as easily used identification aids. An informal guide to species groups and a dichotomous key to the 22 species are presented.     

Ectoparasites from fruit bats and rats on Niue Island

Examination of 3 species of mammals from Niue Island revealed the following host/ectoparasite associations. Rattus rattus (L.) : the mites Androlaelaps casalis, Laelaps echidninus, L. nuttalli, Ornithonyssus bacoti, Listrophoroides cucullatus, and Dermatophagoides pteronys‐sinus; and the louse Polyplax spinulosa. Rattus exulans (Peale) : L. echidninus, L. nuttali, and L. cucullatus; and the louse Hoplopleura pacifica. Pteropus t. tonganus Quoy & Gaimard: the mite Meristaspis calcarata. These new records for the island are discussed in relation to existing records from the Pacific region.     

Siteroptes (Siteroptoides) species with Pediculaster-like phoretomorphs (Acari: Tarsonemida: Pygmephoridae) from New Zealand and Polynesia

Abstract

Six species of Siteroptes subgenus Siteroptoides—kneeboni (Wicht), mesembrinae (Canestrini), microsaniae n.sp., morelliae (Rack), muscarius n.sp., and portatus n.sp.—have been found in New Zealand. S. (S.) mesembrinae occurs on Niue Island also, and a further new species, pacificus, is recorded from Tonga. The phoretomorph females of all 7 species, the normal females of 4, the males of 3, and larvae of 2 are described and compared. The similarities and differences between normal and phoretomorph females are particularly noted. Besides kneeboni, 2 species described by Wicht but not occuring in New Zealand—athiasae and flechtmanni— are redescribed from type material and transferred to Siteroptes (Siteroptoides). Keys are given for normal females and Pediculaster-like phoretomorph females of Siteroptoides. Siteroptes mesembrinae subsimilis and S. ignotus altaicus are raised to species status. Diagnostically important measurements are given to help define the variation within and between species and morphs.

【背景】在中国吉林省延边朝鲜族自治州敦化市寒葱岭红叶谷进行大型真菌资源调查的过程中发现了2个物种。【目的】确定这2个物种的分类地位。【方法】采集大型真菌标本,对其形态进行详细观察和描述,并提取DNA、测定rDNA ITS序列,基于最大似然法和贝叶斯法构建分子系统发育树。【结果】鉴定结果表明,这2个蘑菇目物种分别是径边刺毛鬼伞(Tulosesus callinus)和拉氏红菇(Russula lakhanpalii),在形态上与原始描述高度吻合,系统发育分析也验证了形态学的鉴定结果。【结论】拉氏红菇(R. lakhanpalii)系中国首次报道,径边刺毛鬼伞(T. callinus)为吉林省新记录种。     

A NEW OVOVIVIPAROUS SPECIES OF TECTARIUS (GASTROPODA: LITTORINIDAE) FROM NIUE, SOUTH PACIFIC, WITH A MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY OF THE GENUS

A new ovoviviparous littorinid gastropod, Tectarius (Echininiopsis)niuensis, from Niue, west of the Cook Islands, is described.This is distinguished from the only other ovoviviparous memberof the genus, T. (E.) viviparus (Rosewater, 1982) from the MarianaIslands, here redescribed in detail. The new species is remarkabletor its high-level habitat in the littoral fringe on wave-exposedkarstic limestone cliffs, for its variation in shell shape accordingto tidal level, shell colour polymorphism, calcified operculumand penis with a single mamilliform penial gland. In a cladisticanalysis of morphological characters, including single representativesof each of the three other subgenera of Tectarius (Tectarius,Echininus, Tectininus), these two ovoviviparous species appearas sister-taxa. This is confirmed by a molecular phylogeneticanalysis of the same species, based on the sequence of a portionof the 16S ribosomal RNA mitochondrial gene. Neither analysisunequivocally confirms the monophyly of Tectarius. The divergenceof DNA sequences within Tectarius suggests that the genus arosein the Upper Cretaceous, much earlier than the oldest (UpperEocene) fossils. Only 4 of the 175 species of Littorinidae areknown to be ovoviviparous (with brooding through metamorphosis)and the possible adaptive significance of this type of developmentis discussed. Hitherto, its rarity had been explained by earlyextinction of poorly-dispersed brooding taxa. However, ovoviviparitymay have persisted in Echininiopsis for at least 35 millionyears, and has not precluded colonization of islands 6300kmapart. Description of Kiefferulus opalensis n.sp. (Diptera: Chironomidae)

A new species of Kiefferulus Goetghebuer is described and compared with species from Australia. This is the first record of the genus in New Zealand.     

A review of Turkish Diglyphus Walker (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), with description of a new species

Two species Diglyphus begini Ashmead and D. sabulosus Erdös are new records for Turkey; one new species is described Diglyphus sensilis sp. nov., three species have new host record Liriomyza sativae and Chromatomyia horticola; 10 species of Diglyphus from Turkey are keyed.     

New species and new data on Protrinemuridae and Nicoletiidae (Zygentoma) from Eastern Asia and Pacific islands

Four new genera and eleven new species of Zygentoma thysanurans (families Protrinemuridae and Nicoletiidae) are described and some faunistic novelties reported from Oriental and Australian Regions, viz.: Protrinemura leclerci n. sp., from northern Thailand, Protrinemurella allacrotelsoides n. gen. n. sp., from southern Thailand, and Protrinemuroides celebensis n. gen. n. sp., from the Celebes islands (Protrinemuridae), Lepidospora (L.) digitata n. sp., from northern Thailand, L. (L.) deharvengi n. sp., from the Celebes, and Pseudobrinckina anempodiata n. gen. n. sp., from northern Thailand (Nicoletiidae: Coletiniinae), Gastrotheus (G.) papuanus n. sp., from Papua-New Guinea (Nicoletiidae: Atelurinae), and Metrinura celebensis n. sp., from the Celebes, Trinemurodes anomalocoxa n. sp., from southern Thailand, T. bedosae n. sp., from northern Thailand, and Allotrinemurodes thai n.gen. n. sp., from northern Thailand (Nicoletiidae: Subnicoletiinae). Bharatatelura malabarica Mendes is reported for the first time off the Indian sub-continent (in Suva). Proatelura jacobsoni Silvestri is recorded in Macao (southern China) and in the Moluccas islands and notes are presented on its male sex. Gastrotheus (Lasiotheus) nanus (Escherich) is found for the very first time in Macao, in Cook islands and in Niue. Identification keys are provided to Protrinemuridae genera and to species of Trinemurodes, and modifications are suggested to previously presented keys to Nicoletiidae genera and to Lepidospora and Metrinura species.     

Dialipsis villahermosae Humala & Selfa n. sp. (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), the second European species of the genus,with biological notes and a key of Palaearctic species

The small genus Dialipsis Förster 1869 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) includes two known species, of which one is common in Central and Northern Europe. Here we describe the male and female of a new species, Dialipsis villahermosae Humala & Selfa, which was reared from mushrooms collected in Eastern Spain. The host fungus gnat, Mycetophila blanda Winnertz, is a new record for the whole genus, while the rate of parasitism seems very low. Based on environmental data of the collection localities and data available for other two species it is suggested that Dialipsis species occur preferably in cool temperatures habitats. A key of identification of the two known Palaearctic species is provided. D. villahermosae n. sp. differs from D. exilis Förster 1871 in the morphology of the first tergite, referred to the presence of dorsal keels and angle between petiole and postpetiole, and in the convexity of temples.     

Two new species of Myrmecolacidae (Strepsiptera) with first record of the genus Stichotrema Hofeneder from India

Two new species of the family Myrmecolacidae, Myrmecolax comparilis n. sp. and Stichotrema sagax n. sp., are described from West Bengal, India. Myrmecolax comparilis is the third species of that genus described from India while Stichotrema sagax is the first record of that genus for this country.     

Historical biogeography of the New Zealand freshwater crayfishes (Parastacidae,Paranephrops spp.): Restoration of a refugial survivor?

Abstract

New Zealand's two species of freshwater parastacid crayfishes have allopatric distributions, with one species in the North Island and northwestern South Island and the other in the eastern and southern South Island and Stewart Island. This gives the appearance of a vicariance event driven by uplift of the Southern Alps beginning in the Pliocene, and of former land connections across both Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait. However, separation of the two species may date from before the Southern Alps were formed. A diverse series of historical geological events is invoked to explain details of the distributions of these two species. Absence of Paranephrops from intermontane valleys of eastern flanks of the Southern Alps is notably different from patterns seen in freshwater fish species.

[背景] 在陕西省的毛泡桐腐木桩上观察和采集到一株绒毛状真菌子实体,编号为HMNWAFU-CF-HS002。[目的] 为了确定该菌的分类地位,对其进行形态观察及分子鉴定。[方法] 获取宏观彩色图像并对显微结构进行测量、统计和绘图。此外,用PDA培养基分离纯化该菌的培养物,并结合最大似然法、最大简约法和贝叶斯法进行rDNA ITS分子系统学研究。[结果] HMNWAFU-CF-HS002的形态特征与Punctularia atropurpurascens高度相似。系统发育分析将HMNWAFU-CF-HS002聚在P.atropurpurascens的单系分支中。[结论] 结合形态学特征与系统发育结果,HMNWAFU-CF-HS002被鉴定紫黑点壳菌（Punctularia atropurpurascens）,为中国的新记录种。此外,毛泡桐为其新记录寄主。至此,Punctularia属下的3个种,均在中国有分布记录。     

Tuyamaella serratistipa S. Hatt. new to the Philippines,with a key to the genus Tuyamaella (Hepaticae,Lejeuneaceae)

Abstract

Tuyamaella serratistipa S. Hatt. is reported as a new generic and specific record for the Philippine bryoflora. A detailed illustration of the species and a distribution map of the genus and the species are presented. A key to all known species of Tuyamaella is also provided, and the taxonomy of the genus discussed.     

Morphological and molecular evidence for interspecific hybridisation in the introduced African genus Crassocephalum (Asteraceae: Senecioneae) in Asia

Abstract

The genus Crassocephalum in Asia, introduced there from Africa, was examined by extensive field work, herbarium studies, analyses of pollen and seed fertility, chromosome counts and ITS and trnL‐F sequencing. We found that Crassocephalum in Asia comprises two species and their interspecific hybrid. The two species are C. crepidioides (Benth.) S. Moore and C. rubens (Juss. ex Jacq.) S. Moore, of which the latter is a new record for Asia (north Thailand). The hybrid between these two species in north Thailand originated from a cross between C. crepidioides (2n = 40) as female and C. rubens (2n = 40) as male parent.     

The status of Thamnobryum angustifolium (Holt) Crundw.

Abstract

Morphological distinctions between Thamnobryum alopecurum and T. angustifoliumare maintained when the species are grown under standardized conditions, confirming the validity of the present taxonomic separation of the two species. The record from Madeira is erroneous, so T. angustifolium retains its status as a British endemic.     

A revision of the Chinese Catops Paykull 1798 of the Catops fuscus species group (Coleoptera: Leiodidae: Cholevinae)

Five species of the Catops fuscus species group are reported from China. Three species are newly described: C. hlisnikovskyi n. sp. from the Beijing municipality and Jiangsu province, C. schuelkei n. sp. from Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, and C. smetanai n. sp. from Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. Female of C. sasajii Nishikawa 2007 is described and the species is reported from Hubei, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces for the first time. Catops nigricans (Spence 1813) is reported for the first time from China (Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region). Important morphological characters are illustrated and the distribution of all species in China is mapped. Preliminar phylogenetic analysis separates (C. hlisnikovskyi n. sp.+C. fuscus fuscus Panzer 1794) as a sister clade to C. nigricans+(C. sasajii+(C. schuelkei n. sp.+C. smetanai n. sp.)), with C. paramericanus Peck & Cook 2002 as outgroup.     

First record of Isocapnia (Plecoptera: Capniidae) from China with description of a new species

Summary

The winter stonefly genus Isocapnia Banks, 1938??? is mainly distributed in western North America and eastern Asia, but has never been reported from China. In this paper, we report, describe and illustrate a new species of this genus, I. anguis n. sp. from Sichuan Province of China. This is the first record for the genus Isocapnia from China, extending the distribution of Isocapnia into the southwestern China. An identification key to all the Isocapnia species from Asia is provided.???
