Rabbits and rats were injected two Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin 300 mg/kg or indomethacin 3 mg/kg) intraperitoneally. One hour after injection blood was analyzed for serum electrolytes and osmolality. Administration of both aspirin and indomethacin in rabbits and rats caused increase in serum sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus and osmolality. Results suggest the marked similarity in the action of aspirin and indomethacin on electrolytes and osmolality. It is concluded that the ingestion of aspirin and indomethacin can have a major effect on serum electrolytes and osmolality that may influence the interpretation of clinical data in patients taking these drugs.  相似文献

Only part of the effect of dietary protein on urinary calcium excretion can be ascribed to sulfur amino acids. We hypothesized that chloride, another factor often associated with isolated proteins, and another amino acid, lysine, affect utilization of calcium. The effects of supplemental dietary chloride, inorganic or organic, on calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium utilization were studied in two rat studies. Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were fed semi-purified diets that contained moderate (1.8 mg Cl/g diet) or supplemental (15.5 mg Cl/g diet) chloride as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, or lysine monohydrochloride with or without calcium carbonate for 56 or 119 days. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride had higher urinary phosphorus excretion, more efficient phosphorus absorption, but unchanged tissue phosphorus levels after 7 and 16 weeks of dietary treatment as compared to rats fed moderate chloride. Rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride excreted more calcium in urine at 7 weeks and absorbed calcium less efficiently at 16 weeks. Tissue calcium concentrations were unaffected, but total tibia magnesium and plasma magnesium concentrations were lower in rats fed supplemental sodium chloride or potassium chloride than those fed moderate chloride. Lysine chloride with or without additional calcium elevated urinary calcium excretion even more than sodium chloride and potassium chloride ingestion. Rats fed lysine chloride with supplemental calcium had smaller apparent absorption and urinary losses of phosphorus and magnesium after 16 weeks and lower tibia and plasma magnesium concentrations than rats fed lysine chloride.  相似文献

Supplemental dietary calcium has been shown to reduce blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats while restricted calcium diets cause an elevation in blood pressure. This latter nutrient effect has been enhanced by modest sodium restriction and is associated with a reduction in serum ionized calcium concentration. To determine whether alterations of dietary calcium and sodium have a similar influence on blood pressure in genetically normotensive rats, Fisher 344, Wistar Furth, and ACI rats were fed either a low (0.1%) calcium, low (0.25%) sodium diet or normal (1.0%) calcium, normal sodium (0.45%) diet from 4 weeks of age through 29 weeks of age. Indirect measurements of systolic blood pressure showed that only the Fisher 344 rats consistently responded to the low calcium/low sodium diets with an elevation of blood pressure. There was considerable variation in serum electrolytes across strains in the normal diets but all three strains experienced a reduction in ionized calcium and an elevation in phosphorus and magnesium on the restricted diets. In the Fisher 344 rats there were significant (p less than .05) inverse correlations among systolic blood pressure and serum ionized and total calcium concentrations and positive correlations among systolic blood pressure, phosphorus, and magnesium. There was no significant correlation between serum electrolytes and blood pressure in the other two strains. The data indicate that there is genetic variability in the blood pressure response to alterations in dietary calcium and sodium. The pattern of change in serum electrolytes across strains suggests that diet-induced alterations of serum electrolytes, specifically calcium, are not necessarily predictive of a pressor response. It would appear that some other calcium-sensitive physiological process involved in blood pressure regulation must respond differentially to calcium availability across strains.  相似文献

Effects of dietary caffeine on renal handling of minerals in adult women   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Thirty-seven women, aged 31-78 years, on two separate mornings consumed a decaffeinated beverage to which 6 mg caffeine/kg lean body mass or no caffeine were added. Total urine output of water, calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, potassium and creatinine increased in the two hours following caffeine ingestion when compared to the control beverage. Increased urinary mineral (mg)/urinary creatinine (g) ratios were seen for calcium (120 to 200), magnesium (70 to 110), sodium (3,800 to 6,200) and chloride (9,200 to 14,800), following the caffeinated beverage. Creatinine clearance did not change significantly. The percent reabsorption of calcium (98.6% to 97.5%, p less than .001) and magnesium (97.0% to 94.2%, p less than .0001) decreased significantly during the post-caffeine period. The calcium and magnesium filtered loads did not differ significantly between the caffeine and no caffeine beverages. Therefore, caffeine-induced urinary loss of calcium and magnesium is largely attributable to a reduction in calcium and magnesium renal reabsorption, although the physiological mechanism and tubular segment affected remain to be established.  相似文献

Seven goats were given medetomidine 5 μg/kg as an iv bolus injection. Venous blood samples were taken repeatedly and urine was collected continuously via a catheter up to 7h after the injection. Medetomidine caused deep clinical sedation. Base excess, pH and PCO2 in venous blood rose after medetomidine administration. There were no significant changes in plasma concentrations of sodium, calcium, magnesium, creatinine or osmolality, whereas potassium and bicarbonate concentrations increased, and phosphate and chloride decreased. Medetomidine increased plasma glucose concentration, and in 4 of 7 goats glucose could also be detected in urine. Medetomidine did not influence urine flow rate, free water clearance, bicarbonate and phosphate excretion or pH, but renal chloride, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and creatinine excretion were reduced. The results suggest that the metabolic alkalosis recorded after medetomidine administration is not caused by increased renal acid excretion.  相似文献

In 1983 and 1984 blood was collected from 79 cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus) confined to an outdoor enclosure in southern Illinois to establish reference values for hematology and serum chemistry. Packed cell volume, sodium, potassium, chloride, glucose, calcium, carbon dioxide, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid, cholesterol, albumin, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate transaminase, alanine aminotransaminase, total protein, albumin/globulin ratio, and osmolality were measured. Sex and age (adult versus juvenile) of rabbit as well as season (June to September versus October to May) and method of capture (trap versus shot) variously affected most hematology and serum chemistry variables.  相似文献

Haemolymph from the Essig's Lupine aphid, Macrosiphum albifrons (Essig), was analyzed for pH, osmolality, and concentrations of magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium, chloride, phosphate and citrate. The concentration of inorganic ions and citrate was relatively low forming only 14% of the osmotic potential of the plasma (476 mOsm). The composition of the plasma resembled more the composition of phytophagous Endopterygota than Exopterygota.  相似文献

Osmotic and ionic regulatory ability were examined in the giant freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii in response to varying salinities. In freshwater, and under conditions of low salinity, hemolymph osmolality was maintained around 450 mOsm. Under high salinity, osmolality values increased in a time-wise manner until reaching levels of the surrounding rearing water. Changes in sodium concentration generally paralleled osmotic change, and potassium and magnesium concentrations increased upon exposure to extremely high salinity. In contrast, total calcium concentration was maintained at high levels regardless of salinity treatment. Examination of crystalline structure and ionic composition of the cuticle revealed that it was comprised principally of an α-chitin-like material, and calcite (calcium carbonate). Calcite accounted for 25% of total bulk weight in freshwater, while sodium, potassium and magnesium constituents combined comprised less than 2.5% of this total. Although sodium, potassium and magnesium contents increased nearly 2-fold in response to changing salinity, calcium levels remained relatively constant.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of a large (920 cal) liquid carbohydrate (CHO) load on the maximum exercise capacity of 18 patients with chronic airflow obstruction [forced expiratory volume at at 1 s (FEV1) = 1.27 +/- 0.48 liters; FEV1/forced vital capacity = 0.41 +/- 0.11]. Patients underwent duplicate incremental cycle ergometer exercise tests to a symptom-limited maximum following CHO and a liquid placebo in single-blind fashion. Expired gas measurements were obtained during each power output. In 12 patients arterial blood gases were measured, and in six patients venous blood was obtained for measurement of glucose, electrolytes, and osmolality. With CHO, the maximum power output decreased from 86 +/- 30 to 76 +/- 31 W (P less than 0.001), whereas the ventilation at exhaustion was nearly identical (47.6 +/- 13.2 and 46.8 +/- 12.5 l/min). Arterial partial pressure of CO2 (PaCO2) at exhaustion decreased (P less than 0.025), arterial partial pressure of O2 (PaO2) increased (P less than 0.01), and the ventilatory equivalent for CO2 (VE/VCO2) increased (P less than 0.005) with CHO. At equivalent power outputs, CHO resulted in significant increases in VE (P less than 0.001) and VCO2 (P less than 0.001); PaCO2 was unchanged, whereas PaO2 increased (P less than 0.01). CHO increased the serum glucose at rest and during exercise. No changes in serum osmolality or electrolytes occurred during exercise following CHO. After CHO loading, the majority of patients appeared to reach their limiting level of ventilation at a lower power output. In contrast, there was no significant difference in the mean maximum power output with CHO in six normal control subjects.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Annual cycle measurements were made on serum sodium, potassium, chloride, iron, magnesium, calcium, carbon dioxide, total protein, albumin, cholesterol, triglycerides, inorganic phosphorus, uric acid, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, glucose, lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and creatine kinase in the striped mullet ( Mugil cephalus L.) and the pinfish ( Lagodon rhomboides L.). For each parameter, mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation (C.V.) are reported. The lowest C.V.s were associated with the electrolytes and the greatest C.V.s with serum enzymes. The lowest variability for most parameters was observed in the vitellogenic and prespawning period.  相似文献

Abstract: Reference values of some hematologic and plasma chemical parameters were established in two species of clinically normal Cercopithecidae. The following variables were studied in seven mandrills (Mandrillus sphinx) and nine white-crowned mangabeys (Cercocebus torquatus lunulatus): hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, erythrocyte and leucocyte counts, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, glucose, urea, uric acid, cholesterol, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine phosphokinase, lactic dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase, total serum proteins, albumin, globulins, albumin-globulin ratio, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, total phosphorus, chloride, and serum osmolality. Few differences were observed when compared with human hematological data and with other species of Cercopithecidae Primates.  相似文献

Adult rats were given large doses of MSG (4 g/kg) or isosmolar amounts of sodium chloride or L-alanine intraperitoneally or by forced intubation. Blood or plasma samples from these rats where assayed for osmolarity, hematocrit, pH, and concentrations of protein, sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, and urea nitrogen. Intraperitoneal MSG produced characteristic hypothalamic lesions; MSG by gavage failed to do so. Intraperitoneal MSG also caused major increases in plasma osmolarity, hemoconcentration, hypovolemia, alkalosis, hypernatremia, and uremia; plasma levels of chloride and potassium fell significantly. Administration of MSG by gavage caused much smaller changes in plasma osmolarity and sodium, and no significant changes in hematocrit, plasma protein or plasma urea nitrogen. Administration of sodium chloride or L-alanine (agents not known to produce the characteristics MSG brain lesions) caused some, but not all, of the metabolic changes seen after MSG. These observations suppot the hypothesis that the ability of large, concentrated doses of MSG to produce brain lesions in susceptible species involves a two-step process, i.e., initial damage to the blood-brain barrier for glutamate, followed by entry of the circulating amino acid into the extracellular space of the brain.  相似文献

It is not known if vitamin E in hyperlipidemia and hypercholesterolemia of longer duration has any beneficial or adverse effects on electrolytes, and liver and kidney function. The objectives of this study are to determine (i) if long duration of mild hypercholesterolemia has any adverse effects on serum electrolytes, glucose and enzymes related to liver and kidney functions; (ii) if vitamin E has any effects on serum electrolytes, glucose and enzymes related to liver and kidney function in hypercholesterolemia. Blood samples were collected from the rabbits before and at various intervals during administration of a high cholesterol diet (0.25%) for 2 and 4 months, and while on a high cholesterol diet with vitamin E following a high cholesterol diet. Measurements of serum total cholesterol (TC), glucose, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), albumin, creatinine, electrolytes [sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl), and carbon dioxide (CO2)] were made. High cholesterol diet for 2 months produced hypercholesterolemia which was associated with reductions in serum glucose, unaltered serum electrolytes, ALT, ALP, GGT, albumin and creatinine, and increased levels of AST. Hypercholesterolemia for 4 months had effects similar to hypercholesterolemia for 2 months except it lowered serum ALP. Vitamin E did not affect any of the parameters except serum glucose and Cl, which decreased compared to the values at month 2. Hypercholesterolemia for short and long term does not have adverse effects on liver or kidney function, and serum electrolytes. Vitamin E during hypercholesterolemia does not affect serum electrolytes or liver and kidney function.  相似文献

At 3-hr intervals over a 24-hr span, 36 systemic, serologic and urinary variables were examined in 7 men in their mid 20's in the Spring of 1969, and again in the same 7 men in the Spring of 1979 under a similar chronobiologic protocol, using the same chemical and numerical analytical procedures. The variables examined for rhythms by cosinor were: vital signs--blood pressure (systolic, diastolic, pulse pressure and mean arterial pressure), heart rate, intraocular pressure (left and right), oral temperature; serum components--albumin, albumin/globulin ratio, total bilirubin, calcium, carbon dioxide, chlorides, bilirubin, cholesterol, globulin, glucose, potassium, sodium, sodium/potassium ratio, transaminase, triglycerides, total protein, urea nitrogen; and urine components--calcium, calcium/magnesium ratio, creatinine, magnesium, pH, potassium, sodium, sodium/potassium ratio, urea clearance, urea nitrogen, volume and zinc. Although all subjects appeared clinically healthy in 1969 and in 1979, certain inter-study differences were observed in a number of rhythm parameters of different variables. Statistically significant increases in mesor for the group as a whole were observed for serum Ca, cholesterol, Cl, CO2, K, Na, and while statistically significant mesor decreases for a group as a whole were noted in serum glucose and transaminase. Statistically significant increases in amplitude for the group as a whole were observed in serum chloride and urinary Na/K ratio, while statistically significant decreases were observed in amplitude for blood pressure, heart rate, serum albumin, A/G ratio, globulin, glucose, protein, sodium and transaminase.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Normal mean values for hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, hematimetric indices, erythrocyte dimensions, glucose, urea, uric acid, cholesterol, creatinine, total bilirubin, serum aspartate aminotransferase, serum alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine phosphokinase, lactic dehydrogenase, inorganic phosphorus, chloride, total plasma protein, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium were obtained from the blood or plasma of four Masai ostriches (Struthio camelus) when juveniles at 5 mo of age and as adults 1 yr later in the Barcelona Zoo (Spain). Young ostriches had significantly lower concentrations of hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, calcium, and magnesium, and higher levels of total protein and potassium, than the adult individuals. The rest of the parameters were not significantly different between the two age groups. The data obtained provide reference values for Masai ostriches.  相似文献

The effects of intravenous carrier-free salmon calcitonin on renal clearances of phosphate, calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium were studied in male parathyroid-ectomized (PTX) and intact rats. Both natural and synthetic hormone, when infused at constant rates (0.005 approximately 0.5 MRC U/hr), produced a rapid increase (peaking at about 60-90 min) in phosphate clearance. However, the maximal increase was transient in nature in PTX rats. In intact rats, the phosphaturic response was somewhat more pronounced and the decline after the peak was rather modest. When a large amount (4 MRC U) of calcitonin was given in divided doses, the second dose produced a lesser extent of phosphaturia in both intact and PTX rats. The phosphaturic response was accompanied by an increase in sodium and potassium clearances in PTX rats and by an increase in potassium clearance in intact rats. A fall in the apparent clearance values for calcium and magnesium occurred and was maintained throughout the infusion period of hormone in both intact and PTX rats. In conclusion, PTX rats respond to the intravenous administration of salmon calcitonin with a transient phosphaturic response which is accompanied by parallel diuresis of sodium and potassium along with sustained retention of calcium and magnesium by the kidney.  相似文献

The ionic composition of human prostatic fluid varied greatly between individuals, reflecting the secretory activity of the gland and the presence or absence of prostatic inflammatory disease. In normal prostatic fluid the major anion was citrate, while chloride concentrations were lower. Their counterions were mainly sodium and potassium, together with calcium, magnesium and zinc. Prostatic secretions from men with prostatitis comprised mainly sodium and chloride. The electrolytes were closely correlated to each other (except for sodium, which was essentially invariant at about 145 nm). The molar changes per mole of citrate were about 0.52, potassium; -0.53, chloride; 0.17, calcium; 0.14, magnesium; and 0.09, zinc. The pH was also associated with citrate, decreasing from 8.0 to 6.2 as the citrate increased. These various ionic changes can be explained as responses to citrate secretion, without the need to propose specific transport mechanisms for the other ions measured. The marked effect of prostatic inflammation on the composition of prostatic fluid can be seen as being due mainly to decreased secretion rather than active modification.  相似文献

1. Packed cell volume (PCV), blood glucose, total plasma proteins (TPP) and plasma electrolytes, osmolality, cortisol and aldosterone alterations produced by transport and racing, were investigated in race horses. 2. Plasma cortisol, sodium and blood glucose, found after transport, were higher, while aldosterone was lower than control levels. 3. After racing, PCV, blood glucose, TPP and plasma cortisol, sodium and osmolality were higher than control, while chloride diminished and aldosterone returned to control values. 4. These results demonstrate that transport and racing are different kinds of stressors, suggesting that the sympathetic system and hypophysis-suprarenal cortex axis have a dissimilar contribution to the physiological response.  相似文献

In 18 patients with gastrointestinal manifestations of digoxin toxicity the mean serum digoxin concentration (+/- SEM) was 3.16 micrograms/l (+/- 0.25), the calcium to potassium ratio 0.31 (+/- 0.01), and the mean arterial pH 7.406 (+/- 0.017). In contrast 19 patients with digoxin induced automaticity had a mean serum digoxin concentration of 1.24 micrograms/l (+/- 0.15; p less than 0.001), a calcium to potassium ratio of 0.38 (+/- 0.01; p less than 0.01), and an arterial pH of 7.498 (+/- 0.008; p less than 0.001). Eight out of 13 patients with digoxin induced cardiotoxicity had serum concentrations of the drug within the therapeutic range (0.8-2.0 micrograms/l). The calcium to potassium ratio, however, was lower than in the patients with automaticity (0.31 +/- 0.02; p less than 0.01) and the arterial pH was 7.370 (+/- 0.033; p less than 0.05). Serum magnesium concentrations were similar in all groups. In this study patients with digoxin induced gastrointestinal symptoms had high serum concentrations of the drug, whereas those with drug induced automaticity had therapeutic concentrations. This second group, however, was identified by their higher calcium to potassium ratios and higher pH values.  相似文献

Lithium carbonate at the dose level of 1.1 g/kg was administered in diet to normal (18% protein), low-protein-(LP; 8%) and highprotein (HP; 30% diet)-fed rats for a period of 1 mo. The LP diet resulted in a significant decrease in the hepatic levels of zinc, iron, copper, manganese, calcium, and serum levels of calcium and sodium. The HP diet caused a marked decrease in copper and calcium levels in liver, but an increase in potassium levels in serum was observed. Lithium treatment to normal rats led to a significant reduction in the hepatic contents of zinc, copper, potassium, calcium, and serum contents of potassium and sodium, whereas an elevation in serum contents of calcium was noticed. Administration of lithium to protein-deficient rats increased the hepatic concentration of manganese and serum concentration of calcium and the levels almost reached the normal limits. On the other hand, there was a marked depression in potassium contents in the serum of LP-as well as HP-fed rats following lithium treatment when compared to LP and HP groups, respectively.  相似文献
