Manganese (Mn) is an essential trace element required for normal development and bodily function. However, little is known about the effect of excessive amounts of Mn in immune organs of poultry. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary Mn on the content of trace elements, such as copper (Cu), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), calcium (Ca), and selenium (Se), and the mRNA level of IL-1β and IL-2 in immune organs (spleen, thymus, and bursa of Fabricius) and the content of IL-1β and IL-2 in serum of poultry. Fifty-day-old male Hyline cocks were fed either a commercial diet or a Mn-supplemented diet containing 600, 900, and 1,800 mg/kg. The immune organs were collected at 30, 60, and 90 days, respectively, and the content of trace elements and the mRNA level of IL-1β and IL-2 were examined; the serum were collected and the IL-1β and IL-2 contents detected. The results showed that Mn content in immune organs increased and Fe, Zn, and Ca contents decreased; however, Cu and Se contents showed no difference. IL-1β and IL-2 mRNA levels and IL-1β and IL-2 contents decreased. The present study demonstrates that excess exposure to Mn results in metal accumulations in immune organs. Manganism can disturb the balance of trace elements in immune organs and induce immune suppression in the molecular level; therefore, the immune function of cocks are also suppressed after manganism.  相似文献

Cocks were administered testosterone (T) for 14 days via 0, 1, 2, or 4 Silastic capsules implanted subcutaneously. Each capsule released 1.04 mg of T per day. Concentrations of T in plasma and the proportion of eggs fertilized from homospermic insemination of hens were determined. Concentrations of T in plasma were variable and unaffected by treatment. The proportion of eggs that were fertilized by cocks decreased during treatment with 1 capsule, increased over the experiment in the group with 2 capsules, and increased after treatment ended in the group with 4 capsules. In heterospermic tests, cocks with distinguishable offspring were paired and semen was mixed within pairs. One cock in each pair received either 1 or 4 Silastic capsules containing T for 14 days; the other cock in the pair received none. The proportion of chicks sired by cocks treated with 1 capsule remained unchanged throughout the experiment, whereas the proportion sired by cocks treated with 4 capsules decreased markedly during the recovery period. The response to T was apparently dependent upon dosage and the sensitivity of the cock to T. The concentration of T in the plasma of the cock had little relationship to fertility. These results indicate that heterospermic insemination can be used as a sensitive method to detect the subtle effects of hormonal treatment.  相似文献

Little is known about the influence of subchronic cadmium exposure on apoptosis in the immune organs of birds and the protective effects on apoptosis by selenium against cadmium. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of subchronic cadmium exposure on nitric oxide and apoptosis in the immune organs of chicken and the protective roles of selenium against cadmium-induced apoptosis. Two hundred ten 30-day-old chickens were randomly assigned to three groups and were fed a basal diet, cadmium?+?selenium (as 150 mg of CdCl2 per kg of diet?+?10 mg of Na2SeO3 per kg of diet ) or cadmium (as 150 mg of CdCl2 per kg of diet) in basic diets for 15, 30, 45, and 60 days. Then, the production of nitric oxide, messenger RNA (mRNA level), and the activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase, ultrastructural changes, TUNEL assay, and flow cytometric analysis of apoptosis and Bcl-2 and p53 mRNA levels in the immune organs were examined. The results showed that cadmium exposure caused ultrastructural damage and increased production of nitric oxide, mRNA level, and activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase, the degree, and the number of apoptotic cells in a time-dependent manner. Cadmium exposure decreased Bcl-2 mRNA level and increased p53 mRNA level in a time-dependent manner. Selenium supplementation during dietary cadmium reduced the production of nitric oxide, the mRNA level, and activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase, ultrastructural damage, and apoptosis in the immune organs of chicken. It indicated that cadmium induced nitric oxide-mediated apoptosis of immune organs, and selenium played protective effects against cadmium-induced apoptosis in the immune organs of chickens.  相似文献

We investigated the kinetics of parasite replication, leukocyte migration, and cytokine/chemokine mRNA expression in the heart tissue from animals infected with the Colombiana strain of Trypanosoma cruzi. Cardiac tissue parasitism was noticeable at 15 days, peaked around 30 days and was dramatically reduced at 120 days postinfection (p.i.). Kinetic studies showed that the inflammatory infiltrate was dominated by the presence of alphabetaT CD3(+ )CD4(+ )CD8(-), alphabetaT CD3(+ )CD4(-)CD8(+ )lymphocytes and macrophages. The mRNA expression of the monokines IL-1beta and IL-12(p40) was elevated at 15 days p.i. and controlled at later time points. In contrast, TNF-alpha mRNA was expressed throughout the infection. Interestingly, we found that at 15 and 30 days p.i. cytokine expression was dominated by the presence of IFN-gamma mRNA, whereas at 60 days or later time points the balance of type 1 and type 2 cytokines was switched in favor of IL-4 and IL-10 mRNAs. The chemokine mRNAs encoding JE, MIP-1alpha, MIP-1beta, KC, and MIP-2 were all mainly expressed at 15 and/or 30 days p.i. and diminished thereafter. In contrast, the expression of RANTES, MIG and IP-10 mRNAs was augmented at 15 days p.i. and persisted at high levels up to 120 days p.i. Taken together, our results indicate that regulation of IFN-gamma and chemokine expression, associated with decreased tissue parasitism, may be largely responsible for the control of inflammation and immunopathology observed in the cardiac tissue of animals infected with T. cruzi.  相似文献

Selenium (Se) is necessary for the immune system in chicken and mediates its physiological functions through selenoproteins. Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are indispensable for maintaining normal cell function and for directing the immune response. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of Se deficiency on the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression levels of selenoproteins and Hsps as well as immune functions in the chicken bursa of Fabricius. Two groups of chickens, namely the control and Se-deficient (L group) groups, were reared for 55 days. The chickens were offered a basal diet, which contained 0.15 mg Se/kg in the diet fed to the control group and 0.033 mg Se/kg in the diet fed to the L group. We performed real-time quantitative polymerase chain reactionto detect the mRNA expression levels of selenoproteins and Hsps on days 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55. Western blotting was used to determine the protein expression levels of Hsps on days 35, 45 and 55, and immune functions were assessed through an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay on days 15, 35, and 55. The data showed that the mRNA expression levels of selenoproteins, such as Txnrd1, Txnrd2, Txnrd3, Dio1, Dio2, Dio3, GPx1, GPx2, GPx3 GPx4, Sepp1, Selo, Sel-15, Sepx1, Sels, Seli, Selu, Selh, and SPS2, were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the L group compared with the control group. Additionally, the mRNA and protein expression levels of Hsps (Hsp27, Hsp40, Hsp60, Hsp70, and Hsp90) were also significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the L group. The expression levels of IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17, IL-1β, IFN-α, IFN-β, and IFN-γ were significantly lower (P < 0.05) and TNF-α was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the L group compared with the control group. Our results show that immunosuppression was accompanied by a downregulation of mRNA expression levels of selenoproteins and an upregulation of the Hsp mRNA expression levels. Thus, Se deficiency causes defects in the chicken bursa of Fabricius, and selenoproteins and Hsps play important roles in immunosuppression in the bursa of Fabricius of chickens with Se deficiency.  相似文献

A dysregulated local immune reaction with unbalanced cytokine expression seems essential in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), i.e. ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Since the roles of interleukin (IL-)13 and IL-15 remain unclear, this study aimed at studying intestinal expression of IL-13 and IL-15 in IBD. Methods: In colonic biopsies from 24 UC, 18 CD, and 12 controls IL-13 and IL-15 were measured using ELISA, and their gene expressions were assessed by RT-PCR. Leukocytes were visualised histochemically. Results: Concentrations of IL-13 were decreased in UC (median 56 pg/mg tissue; interquartile range 30-99 pg/mg) compared to CD (82 pg/mg tissue; 41-122;P=0.004) and controls (83 pg/mg tissue; 18-134;P>0.05), and lower in active UC (53 pg/mg tissue; 33-96) than in inactive UC (80 pg/mg tissue; 65-99;P=0.02). IL-15 concentrations were higher in CD patients (34 pg/mg tissue; 24-53) as compared to controls (20 pg/mg tissue; 15-21;P=0.001) whilst being 22 pg/mg tissue (15-32) in UC. IL-13 mRNA and IL-15 mRNA were detected in 20% and 15%, respectively. Infiltration of leukocytes correlated inversely with IL-13 levels (P=0.02). Conclusion: Active UC is associated with decreased colonic IL-13 suggesting that IL-13 levels are diminished as a part of UC exacerbations, or that exacerbations follow active downregulation of IL-13.  相似文献

目的通过复制轮状病毒(RV)肠道外感染乳鼠的动物模型,检测接种后乳鼠体内Th1/Th2平衡改变,对RV肠道外感染后机体免疫状态进行初步研究。方法48只乳鼠随机均分为3组:肠道外组、肠道内组和正常对照组。肠道外组通过腹腔注射猴RVSA11株,肠道内组灌胃等量RV悬液,对照组无特殊处理。分别在接种后第4天、第8天处死乳鼠,收集标本,观察心、肝、肾、肺等脏器病理变化,用ELISA法检测血清中IL-10和IFN-γ的表达。结果光镜下肠道外组乳鼠肾、肝、肺和脾脏出现病理改变。感染后第4天,肠道内、外组乳鼠血清IFN-γ水平均高于正常组,到第8天明显下降,基本达到基线水平;IL-10在肠道外组第4天增高,到第8天小幅下降,但仍然高于正常组;而肠道内组IL-10无明显改变。结论RV肠道外感染早期呈现Th1-Th2混合反应,而后期则以IL-10的表达为主,T细胞向Th2型免疫应答方向偏离,Th1/Th2细胞因子失衡机制可能是RV肠道外感染的重要因素。  相似文献

In bridging the knowledge gap on stress physiology of Nigerian indigenous chickens, this study investigated the effect of exogenous corticosterone (eCORT) as stress inducing agent on the testicular function and mating behavior of Nigerian indigenous cocks. Twenty-four (24) cocks and one hundred and forty four (144) hens (mating ratio of 1 cock: 6 hens) were grouped into four and assigned to each of the four eCORT treatments (0, 2, 4 and 6 mgeCORT/KgBW) daily for 14 days. Semen samples were collected on days 0, 7 and 14 and analyzed for semen volume (SV), progressive sperm motility (PSM), membrane integrity (MI) and sperm abnormality (SA). Mating behaviors were monitored on days 3, 5 and 8. Blood samples, for hormonal (Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Testosterone (TEST) and stress analysis (heterophil/lymphocyte ratio, H/L) were collected from brachial vein on days 7 and 14. On day 15, cocks were euthanized and testes harvested for histomorphometry. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis, one–way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests all in SPSS 23. Administration of 4 mgeCORT/KgBW declined (P<0.05) PSM while 4 mgeCORT/KgBW and 6 mgeCORT/KgBW cocks had reduced (P<0.05) SV and MI with increased SA. Compared to baseline values, progressive sperm motility of cocks administered 6 mgeCORT for 7 and 14 days decreased (P<0.05) by 57.5% and 52.4%, respectively. Exogenous CORT had no significant (P>0.05) influence on the mating behaviors, H/L ratio, FSH and TEST. However, 2 mgeCORT/KgBW enhanced LH levels. Administration of eCORT did not affect the testicular epithelial height and seminiferous tubular diameter. In conclusion, optimal stress induced by eCORT impaired semen quality but with less impact on reproductive hormones, H/L and mating behaviors of intensively raised Nigerian indigenous cocks.  相似文献

Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) causes high incidence of disease in salmonids during the first period after SW transfer. During this period as well as during periods of stress, cortisol levels increase and indications of a relationship between IPNV susceptibility and cortisol have been suggested. The intestine is an entry route and a target tissue for IPNV displaying severe enteritis and sloughing of the mucosa in infected fish. The mechanisms behind effects of the virus on the intestinal tissue and the impact of cortisol on the effect remain unclear. In the present study, Atlantic salmon post smolts treated with or without slow release cortisol implants were subjected to a cohabitant IPNV challenge. Analysis of genes and proteins related to the innate and acquired immune responses against virus was performed 6 days post-challenge using qPCR and immunohistochemistry. An increased mRNA expression of anti-viral cytokine interferon type I was observed in the proximal intestine and head kidney as a response to the viral challenge and this effect was suppressed by cortisol. No effect was seen in the distal intestine. T-cell marker CD3 as well as MHC-I in both intestinal regions and in the head kidney was down regulated at the mRNA level. Number of CD8α lymphocytes decreased in the proximal intestine in response to cortisol. On the other hand, mRNA expression of Mx and IL-1β increased in the proximal intestine and head kidney in IPNV challenged fish in the presence of cortisol suggesting that the immune activation shifts in timing and response pathway during simulated stress. The present study clearly demonstrates that IPNV infection results in a differentiated epithelial immune response in the different intestinal regions of the Atlantic salmon. It also reveals that the epithelial immune response differs from the systemic, but that both are modulated by the stress hormone cortisol.  相似文献

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) were shown previously to be mitogenic for human fibroblasts. Here we show that recombinant human TNF and recombinant human IL-1 alpha increase steady state levels of c-fos and c-myc proto-oncogene mRNAs in quiescent human FS-4 fibroblasts. Proto-oncogene mRNA levels were enhanced within 20 min of TNF or IL-1 addition, peaked at 30 min, and declined to undetectable levels (c-fos) or basal levels (c-myc) by 60 or 90 min. A similar rapid increase in c-fos and c-myc mRNA was seen in quiescent FS-4 cells exposed to cycloheximide. However, in the presence of cycloheximide, both proto-oncogene mRNA levels continued to rise for at least 90 min. The transient nature of the increase in c-myc mRNA levels appears to be a response characteristic for TNF and IL-1 because in quiescent FS-4 cells exposed to 10% fetal bovine serum, steady state levels of c-myc mRNA remained elevated for at least 4 h.  相似文献

Cardiomyopathic (CM) hamsters have a disruption in the delta-sarcoglycan gene which leads to progressive cardiac necrosis by 30 to 40 days of age, hypertrophy by 120 days, and heart failure by 250 days. We used differential display to detect other changes in mRNA levels in 30-, 60-, and 90-day-old wild-type and CM hamsters. We identified a 400-bp cDNA with sequence similarity to the human alpha-interferon-inducible protein (p27). This cDNA annealed with a 570-base mRNA whose steady-state levels were increased in 30-, 60-, and 90-day-old CM compared to wild-type heart. Increased expression of this hamster homolog of p27 (p27-h) was detected in CM hamster cardiac and skeletal muscle at 60 days of age but not in liver, kidney, or brain. Thus, an inherited defect in CM hamsters leads to increased expression of p27-h in advance of the development of hypertrophy and heart failure.  相似文献

通过研究广叶绣球菌多糖对免疫低下小鼠肠道菌群、细胞因子表达量及短链脂肪酸的影响,探究广叶绣球菌多糖的免疫作用机制。腹腔注射环磷酰胺构建免疫低下小鼠模型,将小鼠分为6组:正常对照组、模型组、广叶绣球菌多糖低、中、高剂量组以及阳性对照组,连续饲养30d后处死取样,HE染色观察小肠组织结构,酶联免疫吸附法测定小肠白细胞介素-6(IL-6)、IL-10、肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)、干扰素-γ(IFN-γ)的表达水平,高通量测序技术分析小鼠肠道菌群的变化,气-质联用(GC-MS)技术分析盲肠内容物短链脂肪酸(SCFAs)的含量。结果表明,广叶绣球菌多糖高剂量组可显著改善绒毛肿胀和变短现象,提高绒毛长度/隐窝深度的比值(V/C值)和小肠IL-6、IL-10、TNF-α、IFN-γ细胞因子含量(P<0.05或P<0.01),提高拟杆菌属Bacteroides、拟普雷沃菌属Alloprevotella、丁酸弧菌属ButyrivibrioIntestinimonas、链球菌属Streptococcus的相对丰度(P<0.05或P<0.01);各剂量组均可提高盲肠内6种主要短链脂肪酸含量,差异达显著或极显著水平(P<0.05或P<0.01)。试验组与阳性对照组趋势一致。广叶绣球菌多糖可通过改善免疫低下小鼠的肠道粘膜形态,提高小肠细胞因子水平,调节肠道菌群结构,增加SCFAs产生菌的相对丰度,提高短链脂肪酸含量,调节免疫低下小鼠的肠道免疫功能。  相似文献

采用荧光定量PCR技术分析长白猪和太湖猪背部皮下脂肪组织中胰岛素样生长因子2和胰岛素样生长因子结合蛋白3基因在30、60、90、120和150日龄时表达水平的发育性变化。结果表明: (1)品种内日龄间比较, 长白猪IGF2 mRNA 在30日龄时的表达量极显著高于其他日龄(P<0.01), 之后逐渐下降, 至120日龄降到最低, 150日龄时又明显上升; 太湖猪IGF2 mRNA在30~60日龄的表达量较高, 90日龄降至最低, 120日龄迅速回升, 之后又有所下降。两品种IGFBP3 mRNA表达的发育性变化模式基本相同, 30日龄时表达量最高, 60日龄显著下降(P<0.05), 之后趋于平缓但略有波动。(2)品种间同日龄比较, 120日龄时太湖猪IGF2 mRNA的表达量极显著高于长白猪(P<0.01), 150日龄时太湖猪IGFBP3的表达量极显著低于长白猪(P<0.01), 其余日龄间两品种差异均不显著(P>0.05)。研究结果提示: 猪脂肪组织IGF2和IGFBP3基因表达存在明显的发育性变化和品种差异; IGF2基因表达水平的降低可能与脂肪细胞的增殖有关。  相似文献

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract has many important biological functions. One is to serve as a barrier between the fish and the external environment. A decreased physical barrier function of the intestine may lead to increased inflow of luminal content and subsequent activation of the intestinal mucosal immune system. This activation is governed by the ability of various compounds to induce cytokine release and immune cell activity, leading to an immune response. In mammals, the impact of stress on the intestinal barrier is well documented and results in increased intestinal permeability and thus increased stimulation of the mucosal immune system. Fish reared in sea cages may at times be exposed to unfavourable environmental conditions leading to chronic stress and disturbed intestinal integrity. This change in permeability may increase the exposure of the mucosal immune system to activating compounds. In the present study, the effect of a prolonged stress on the intestinal mucosal immune system of fish is therefore addressed. Atlantic salmon were exposed to low levels (50%) of dissolved oxygen (DO) for 6-7 weeks in consecutive experiments performed at 8 and 16 °C. Immune parameters were assessed in terms of mRNA expression of the key cytokines, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-8, IL-10, interferon-γ (IFNγ) and transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ) as well as the immune regulatory inhibitor of nuclear factor κB (IκB). In the experiment at 8 °C also mucosal neutrophil infiltration was monitored. Subjecting the fish to low DO levels at 8 °C resulted in an increased mucosal neutrophil infiltration together with a down-regulation of IκB. At the higher temperature, 16 °C, low DO levels created decreased expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β in both intestinal regions as well as an increased expression of IL-10 in the proximal intestine. These results suggest that husbandry conditions in sea cages with DO levels as low as 50% clearly affects the intestinal mucosal immune system and results in a chronic inflammation. Moreover, the effects of low DO levels on the immune factors examined were more pronounced in the 16 °C experiment suggesting additive effects of high temperatures.  相似文献

Gastrointestinal nematode parasites undergo several developmental stages within their mammalian host, each presenting different antigenic challenges to the immune system. To examine the expression of different immune mediators over time, biopsy samples were collected from the cannulated abomasum (true stomach) of immune sheep at several times after a challenge infection with Haemonchus contortus L3s. IL-5 and IL-13 mRNA expression levels were significantly increased above saline-challenged control levels at 5 and 7 days post challenge, while IL-4 showed an earlier peak at day 2 post challenge. IL-5, IL-13 and IL-4, as well as IFN-γ mRNA levels, peaked at 7 days before decreasing to non-significant levels at 28 days post challenge. TNF-α followed a similar profile while there was a slight increase in TGF-β in both control and challenged sheep. There was a significant increase in galectin-14 mRNA in the L3 challenged compared with the saline challenged group at 7 days while both galectin-11 protein and mRNA levels increased significantly by day 3 post challenge, peaking at 5-7 days post challenge. Distinct correlations were observed between these immune parameters at different times after L3 challenge. The galectin-14 protein level at day 2 post challenge was the only measured mediator significantly negatively correlated with worm burden. These studies highlight the dynamic nature of the immune response during parasite infection and the need to consider the different life cycle stages involved.  相似文献

The purpose of this 42-day study was to examine the effect of dietary vanadium on the ileac T cells and contents of cytokines including interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in broilers by flow cytometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. A total of 420 one-day-old avian broilers were divided into six groups (seven replicates in each group and ten broilers in each replicate) and fed on control diet or the same diet supplemented with 5, 15, 30, 45, and 60 mg/kg vanadium in the form of ammonium metavanadate. The results showed that the percentages of CD3(+), CD3(+)CD4(+), and CD3(+)CD8(+) T cells in both ileac lamina propria lymphocytes (LPLs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) were significantly lower (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) in the 45- and 60-mg/kg groups than in the control group from 14 to 42 days of age. The CD4(+)/CD8(+) ratio was increased in ileac LPLs in the 60-mg/kg group at 28 days of age, and in ileac IELs in the 60-mg/kg group at 28 days of age and in the 45-mg/kg group at 42 days of age. Meanwhile, the ileac IL-2, IL-6 contents were decreased (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) in the 60-mg/kg group from 14 to 42 days of age and in the 45-mg/kg group from 28 to 42 days of age in comparison with those of the control group. It was concluded that dietary vanadium in excess of 30 mg/kg reduced the ileac T cell population and percentages of T cell subsets, and IL-2, IL-6, and IFN-γ contents, implying that the immune function of local intestinal mucosa in broilers could be affected by the dietary vanadium.  相似文献

Neonates with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) often suffer from impaired cellular immunity, and weaning may further aggravate adverse effects of IUGR on development and function of the immune system. In this study, we investigated effects of glutamine supplementation on immune status in the intestines of weaning pigs with IUGR, focusing on molecular mechanisms underlying altered immune response. Piglets with IUGR were weaned at 21 days of age and received orally 1.22 g alanine or 1 g glutamine per kg body weight every 12?h. Weight gain and intestinal weight of weaning piglets were increased by glutamine supplementation. Levels of serum IgG in piglets supplemented with glutamine were increased compared with Control piglets. The production of IL-1 and IL-8 in the serum and jejunum was decreased by glutamine supplementation, whereas the levels of IL-4 in the serum and the concentrations of IL-4 and IL-10 in the jejunum were increased. The expression of heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) in the jejunum was increased by glutamine supplementation, but the degradation of inhibitor?κB and the activity of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) were decreased. In conclusion, glutamine supplementation enhanced immune response in weaning piglets with IUGR. The effects of glutamine in IUGR are associated with increased Hsp70 expression and suppression of NF-κB activation.  相似文献

The levels of 10 regulatory peptides in acid-alcohol extracts of three regions of the small intestine (0-20%, 30-60%, and 70-100%, with respect to distance from the pylorus) have been monitored radioimmunometrically in sham-infected male (6-8 week old) C57 mice and mice given a 5-cysticercoid infection of the rat tapeworm Hymenolepis diminuta and autopsied 10 days postprimary infection and 5 days postsecondary infection (administered 28 days postprimary infection). The regulatory peptides examined were gastrin, gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP), glucagon (= enteroglucagon), motilin, neurotensin (NT), pancreatic polypeptide (PP), peptide histidine isoleucine (PHI), somatostatin (SRIF), substance P (SP), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). Statistical analyses revealed significant deviations from control values of five of the peptides (enteroglucagon and SP, both elevated; NT, PHI and VIP, all lowered) in intestinal tissue from infected mice; measurement of the same peptides in colonic extracts revealed no significant differences between infected and sham-infected mice. Parallel changes in peptide levels between normal infected and immunosuppressed infected mice were not evident, although elevations in the tissue levels of enteroglucagon and SP were found in infected Wistar rats (normal host). Results are discussed with respect to a peptidergic involvement in the pathology and host immune response to an intestinal tapeworm.  相似文献
