Rotations of the eye are generated by the torques that the eye muscles apply to the eye. The relationship between eye orientation and the direction of the torques generated by the extraocular muscles is therefore central to any understanding of the control of three-dimensional eye movements of any type. We review the geometrical properties that dictate the relationship between muscle pulling direction and 3D eye orientation. We then show how this relation can be used to test the validity of oculomotor control hypotheses. We test the common modeling assumption that the extraocular muscle pairs can be treated as single bidirectional muscles. Finally, we investigate the consequences of assuming fixed muscle pulley locations when modeling the control of eye movements.  相似文献

The use of a tilt platform to simulate a lateral ankle sprain and record muscle reaction time is a well-established procedure. However, a potential caveat is that repetitive ankle perturbation may cause a natural attenuation of the reflex latency and amplitude. This is an important area to investigate as many researchers examine the effect of an intervention on muscle reaction time. Muscle reaction time, peak and average amplitude of the peroneus longus and tibialis anterior in response to a simulated lateral ankle sprain (combined inversion and plantar flexion movement) were calculated in twenty-two physically active participants. The 40 perturbations were divided into 4 even groups of 10 dominant limb perturbations. Within-participants repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests were conducted to assess the effect of habituation over time for each variable. There was a significant reduction in the peroneus longus average amplitude between the aggregated first and last 10 consecutive ankle perturbations (F2.15,45.09 = 3.90, P = 0.03, ɳp2 = 0.16). Authors should implement no more than a maximum of 30 consecutive ankle perturbations (inclusive of practice perturbations) in future protocols simulating a lateral ankle sprain in an effort to avoid significant attenuation of muscle activity.  相似文献

Assessing muscle mechanical properties in terms of stiffness may provide important insights into mechanisms underlying work-related neck pain. This study compared stiffness of cervical and axioscapular muscles between 92 participants (sonographers) with no (n = 31), mild (n = 43) or moderate/severe (n = 18) neck disability. It was hypothesized that participants with more severe neck pain and disability would present with altered distribution of stiffness in cervical and axioscapular muscles than those with no disability. Using shear wave elastography, the shear modulus (kPa) of five cervical and six axioscapular muscles or muscle segments were measured in a relaxed seated upright or side-lying position. Muscle activity was measured simultaneously using surface electromyography during the elastography measurements and scapular depression was measured using a measurement tape and inclinometer before the elastography measurements to evaluate their potential confounding influences on shear modulus. Increased shear modulus was found in deeper than superficial cervical muscles and more cranial than caudal axioscapular muscles. However, no differences in shear modulus of the cervical or axioscapular muscles were found between sonographers with varying levels of disability. This study suggests no alterations in stiffness of cervical and axioscapular muscles were associated with work-related neck pain and disability.  相似文献

Background

Reaction time for anti-saccade, in which the gaze is directed to the position opposite to an illuminated target, shortens during maintenance of neck flexion. The present study applied transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to the frontal oculomotor field, and investigated the effect of maintaining neck flexion on information processing time in the anti-saccade neural pathway before the frontal oculomotor field.

Methods

The reaction time was measured with the chin resting on a stand (‘chin-on’ condition) and with voluntary maintenance of neck flexion (‘chin-off’ condition) at 80% maximal neck flexion angle, with and without TMS. The TMS timing producing the longest prolongation of the reaction time was first roughly identified for 10 ms intervals from 0 to 180 ms after the target presentation. Thereafter, TMS timing was set finely at 2 ms intervals from −20 to +20 ms of the 10 ms step that produced the longest prolongation.

Results

The reaction time without TMS was significantly shorter (21.9 ms) for the chin-off (235.9 ± 14.9 ms) than for the chin-on (257.5 ± 17.1 ms) condition. Furthermore, TMS timing producing maximal prolongation of the reaction time was significantly earlier (18.6 ms) for the chin-off than the chin-on condition. The ratio of the forward shift in TMS timing relative to the reduction in reaction time was 87.8%.

Conclusions

We confirmed that information processing time in the anti-saccade neural pathway before the frontal oculomotor field shortened while neck flexion was maintained, and that this reduction time accounted for approximately 88% of the shortening of reaction time.  相似文献

Background

Studies on the relationship between occlusal problems and the spine are of increasing interest. In this study, we monitored the sEMG activity of masticatory, neck, and trunk muscles during the treatment of scoliosis in young patients, and compared the data with a control of untreated group.

Subjects and methods

Twelve white Caucasian patients (nine males and three females; mean age of 8.0 ± 1.5 years) with scoliosis and Class I occlusion (without crowding) were included in this study (study group). Fifteen healthy subjects (nine males and six females; mean age of 9.5 ± 0.8 years) were recruited as control group. The subjects were visited before they underwent the treatment of scoliosis, as well as after 3 (T1) and 6 months (T2) of their treatment for scoliosis. The patients were instructed to wear the device during sleep and during the day, according to the protocol given by their orthopedic.

Results

The treated group showed statistically significant changes in the sEMG activity of masticatory, neck, and trunk muscles, both at rest and during MVC of the mandible with respect to T0. The masseter and the anterior temporalis showed a significant improvement in the asymmetry index from T0 to T2. On the other hand, subjects in the control group did not register much change.

Conclusion

Our findings suggest that the use of a functional device for the treatment of scoliosis induces a significant reduction in the asymmetry index of the trunk muscles, as well as a significant increase in the contractility of masticatory muscles.  相似文献

A group of 12 healthy men volunteered for the experiment. Electromyograms (EMG) were obtained from semispinalis capitis, splenius capitis, levator scapulae, and trapezius muscles. The flexion angle of the cervical spine was precisely adjusted to 0°, 10°, 20°, and 30° relative to the horizontal, with a constant angle of the atlanto-occipital joint. The subjects made eight short (about 2 s) vertical extension forces (6%, 12%,18%, 24%, 30%, 36%, 42%, and 48% of maximal voluntary peak contraction force). For each position, the centre of pressure under the head was determine as the basis for the calculation of the external lever arm. The presence of motor endplate regions was ascertained by multiple surface electrodes. The slopes of individual linear regression lines for the root mean square (rms)-values were dependent on the existence of endplates in the area of the electrodes — endplates caused smaller rms values per Newton metres of external torque. Significant intersubject differences between regression equations could not be eliminated by the normalization of EMG-parameters and/or torques. The elimination of gravity, the continuous monitoring of positions, and the consideration of localization of motor endplate regions were essential prerequisites for the acquisition of reliable relationships between EMG of different neck muscles and external torques. Two important conclusions were derived for the prediction of torques from EMG measurements: firstly, individual regression equations which take into account the position of the head and neck should be used; secondly, normalization procedures do not justify the application of average regressions to a group of subjects.  相似文献

Assessment of neuromuscular fatigue is essential for early detection and prevention of risks associated with work-related musculoskeletal disorders. In recent years, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of surface electromyography (SEMG) has been used to evaluate muscle fatigue, especially during dynamic contractions when the SEMG signal is non-stationary. However, its application to the assessment of work-related neck and shoulder muscle fatigue is not well established. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to establish DWT analysis as a suitable method to conduct quantitative assessment of neck and shoulder muscle fatigue under dynamic repetitive conditions. Ten human participants performed 40 min of fatiguing repetitive arm and neck exertions while SEMG data from the upper trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles were recorded. The ten of the most commonly used wavelet functions were used to conduct the DWT analysis. Spectral changes estimated using power of wavelet coefficients in the 12–23 Hz frequency band showed the highest sensitivity to fatigue induced by the dynamic repetitive exertions. Although most of the wavelet functions tested in this study reasonably demonstrated the expected power trend with fatigue development and recovery, the overall performance of the “Rbio3.1” wavelet in terms of power estimation and statistical significance was better than the remaining nine wavelets.  相似文献

Visual and auditory reaction times (RTs) have been reported to decrease during moderate aerobic exercise, and this has been interpreted as reflecting an exercise-induced activation (EIA) of cognitive information processing. In the present study we examined changes in several independent measures of information processing (RT, accuracy, P300 latency and amplitude) during exercise, and their relationship to visual or auditory modalities and to gender. P300 latencies offer independent measures of cognitive speed that are unrelated to motor output, and P300 amplitudes have been used as measures of attentional allocation. Twenty-four healthy college students [mean (SD) age 20 (2) years] performed auditory and visual "oddball" tasks during resting baseline, aerobic exercise, and recovery periods. Consistent with previous studies, both visual and auditory RTs during exercise were significantly shortened compared to control and recovery periods (which did not differ from each other). We now report that, paralleling the RT changes, auditory and visual P300 latencies decreased during exercise, indicating the occurrence of faster cognitive information processing in both sensory modalities. However, both auditory and visual P300 amplitudes decreased during exercise, suggesting diminished attentional resource allocation. In addition, error rates increased during exercise. Taken together, these results suggest that the enhancement of cognitive information processing speed during moderate aerobic exercise, although operating across genders and sensory modalities, is not a global facilitation of cognition, but is accompanied by decreased attention and increased errors.  相似文献

Real field demonstrations to assess the removal efficiency of nutrients and organic matter from domestic wastewater were carried out using algal-bacterial photobioreactors. The reactors which consisted of three basins of 200 L were fed with secondary effluent of domestic wastewater and operated under natural day light/dark cycles. The results demonstrated that reaction time (RT) has a substantial role on the whole process performance. Whereas inoculation with nitrifiers affected the process only in some aspects. The enhancement in the dissolved oxygen production rate (1.15 mg O2. L−1.h−1) was in alignment with growing higher algal biomass concentrations due to the increase in RT. COD removal rates were significantly increased (p < 0.05) with increasing the RT, and removal rates of 27%, 46% and 50% were obtained under RTs of 2, 3 and 4hrs. respectively. Meanwhile, 30%, 84% and 95% of the phosphorus was removed under the same studied RTs. No significant effect was recorded due to the addition of nitrifying bacteria on the removal of both COD and phosphorus. Ammonium (NH4+-N) removal rates were also increased with increasing RT and by the addition of nitrifiers, such that removal rates of 13%, 21% and 31% were obtained in basins inoculated with nitrifiers, but 11%, 14% and 19.5% were obtained in non-inoculated basins under RT of 2, 3, and 4 hrs. respectively. These results provide some new insights into algal-bacterial symbiosis systems under real field conditions which could be helpful for further process development.  相似文献

The effect of three different training programmes on the maximal speed of an unloaded movement (a karate punch) was studied. Three movement variables were selected: maximal speed of the hand (Vh,max), maximal speed of the shoulder (Vs,max) and elbow extension speed (theta E) simultaneous with Vh.max. The programmes were: training group 1 (TG 1, n = 8) - karate students, dynamic heavy progressive resistance exercise (incline situp and incline bench press) + punch bag exercise; training group 2 (TG 2, n = 8)-karate students, punch bag training; training group 3 (TG 3, n = 5)-no karate experience, dynamic heavy progressive resistance exercise (as in TG 1). The movement variables were calculated from chrono-cyclo photographic recordings of the punches (100 Hz). The level of significance was set at 5%. Sixteen weeks of training gave the following results: significant increases in dynamic strength in all the training groups (14%-53%). In TG 1 the Vh.max increased significantly from 8.49 m.s-1, SD 1.19 to 9.35 m.s-1, SD 1.29 (10%); Vs.max increased significantly in TG 1 by 32% (2.18 m.s-1, SD 0.56 to 2.87 m.s-1, SD 0.98) and in TG 2 by 14% (2.40 m.s-1, SD 0.61 to 2.74 m.s-1, SD 0.52), and in TG 3 theta E at Vh,max increased significantly from 28.6 rad.s-1, SD 4.3 to 32.2 rad.s-1, SD 4.5 (13%). Auxin application to the upper side of the pulvinus of primary leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris L. promoted bending away from the place of application. The effect had a latency of less than 20 min and was specifically induced by substances known as active auxins in growth tests (indoleacetic and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid) but not by inactive auxin analogs (2-naphthaleneacetic, 3-indolepropionic and benzoic acid); 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, and L-(-)-2,4-dichlorophenoxyisopropionic acid were of intermediate activity. 目的:通过比较不同强度及时间窗骨骼肌缺血后处理对兔缺血/再灌注心肌的保护效能,试图寻找最佳强度和时间窗的骨骼肌缺血后处理方案。方法:健康新西兰大白兔42只(雄性)随机分为7组(n=6):①假手术组(Sham)、②缺血对照组(CON)、③标准骨骼肌后处理组(SP)、④延迟6min骨骼肌后处理组(6M-DSP)、⑤延迟1 min骨骼肌后处理组(1M-DSP)、⑥骨骼肌后处理加强组(SSP)、⑦骨骼肌后处理减弱组(WSP)。以开胸结扎冠状动脉左室支固定部位方法制作缺血/再灌注模型,以游离并夹闭双侧腹股沟髂外动脉固定位置方法造成骨骼肌缺血,再灌注末以TTC法确定心肌梗死范围,并分别于心肌缺血前、后及再灌注1 h、2 h,以生化法测定血清肌酸激酶(CK)及乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)水平。结果:和CON组相比,1M-DSP组心肌梗死重量比及面积比分别下降了42.32%及42.68%、SP组分别下降了49.97%及43.78%、SSP组分别下降了48.36%及48.86%,(P均<0.05),但三组之间相比,心梗范围未见明显差异;而6M-DSP、WSP组与CON组相比未见心肌保护作用;肌酸激酶(CK)的水平和梗死范围变化趋势一致。结论:兔在心肌缺血/再灌注之前完成骨骼肌5 min缺血/1 min再灌注1次循环的缺血后处理,可以起到明显的心肌保护作用。  相似文献

为探讨人体进行最大等速离心运动(ECC)诱发血液肌酸激酶(CK)水平变化、血清肌酸激酶水平与肌肉损伤(EIMD)的关系,本研究筛选出150名"缺乏运动"的健康大学生为受试者,进行血样采集,进行前测包括血清肌酸激酶(CK)、最大等长肌力(MVC)、肘关节活动角度(ROM)、上臂围(CIR)、肌肉感受(VAS)。受试者进行5组×12次最大等速离心运动,运动后恢复期,将全部受试者血清肌酸激酶值进行排序:血清肌酸激酶值最高和最低20%样本,高肌酸激酶水平组(HCK组)和低肌酸激酶水平组(low LCK组),利用SPSS18.0统计学软件,以方差分析和多元回归分析进行统计分析。本研究发现全部受试者、高肌酸激酶水平组、低肌酸激酶水平组在最大等速离心运动后各评估指标均显著高于比前测结果,p<0.05。全部受试者、高肌酸激酶水平组受试者在最大等速离心运动后各指标变化皆明显大于低肌酸激酶水平组受试者,p<0.05。受试者血清肌酸激酶峰值与最大等长肌力、肘关节活动角度、上臂围、肌肉感受最大变化值有相关,p<0.05。本研究认为肌肉损伤程度与肌酸激酶水平具有显著相关,尤其高血清肌酸激酶水平者肌酸激酶水平较大程度反映肌肉损伤程度趋势。本研究表明,肘关节活动角度、上臂围具有预测肌酸激酶峰值的效果。  相似文献

Relationships between the ommatidial structure and photoperiodic behavior of several mosquito species were investigated. Host-seeking behavioral patterns of mosquitoes were classified into four main groups based on previously compiled reports on field or laboratory biting activity. These groups were pattern I and I' (nocturnal), pattern II (crepuscular and nocturnal), pattern III (crepuscular and diurnal), and pattern IV (diurnal). Eye parameters (product of facet diameter and interommatidial angle) of mosquitoes that belong to the pattern I and I' group were higher (2.7-4.2) than those of mosquitoes that belong to the pattern IV group (0.8-2.3). Eye parameters of the mosquitoes categorized in the pattern II and III groups were intermediate (2.3-2.6). These results suggest that the crepuscular behavior of mosquitoes undergoes a transition in the course of evolution from nocturnal behavior to diurnal behavior. Large variations in the eye parameters were observed even within the same genus depending on their photoperiodic behavior. Therefore, the ommatidial structure of mosquitoes appears to be determined, not taxonomically, but evolutionarily by the photoenvironment in which the mosquitoes are most active.  相似文献

Introduction: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) and fear of movement (kinesiophobia) are associated with an overactivation of paravertebral muscles during forward bending. This impairs spine motor control and contributes to pain perpetuation. However, the abdominal muscles activation is engaged too in spine stabilization but its modulation with kinesiophobia remains unknown. Our study tested whether CLBP and kinesiophobia affected the activation pattern of abdominal muscles during trunk flexion/extension. Methods: Surface electromyographical recordings of the internal oblique/transversus abdominis (IO/TrA) and external oblique (EO) muscles were analyzed in 12 people with CLBP and 13 pain-free subjects during low-velocity forward bending back and forth from erected posture. Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia was also administrated. Results: IO/TrA activation, but not EO, was modulated across the phases of movement in both groups, i.e. maximal at onset of flexion and end of extension, and minimal at full flexion. In CLBP group only, IO/TrA activation was increased near to full trunk flexion and in correlation with kinesiophobia. Conclusions: The phase-dependence of IO/TrA activation during trunk flexion/extension in standing may have a role in spine motor control. The influence of kinesiophobia in CLBP should be further investigated as an important target in CLBP management.  相似文献

在半干旱区连续2年监测华北落叶松(Larix principis-rupprechtii)的树干液流、气象因子和土壤体积含水量,分析不同时间尺度下人工林冠层蒸腾与环境因子的关系。结果表明:不同时间尺度下,华北落叶松人工林冠层蒸腾的季节变化均呈单峰曲线,即先增大后减小的趋势;2016年、2017年日蒸腾量分别为1.58 mm/d和1.71 mm/d,生长季蒸腾总量分别为241.30 mm和260.97 mm。在日尺度下,气温、太阳辐射强度和饱和水汽压差是影响华北落叶松人工林冠层蒸腾主要环境因子;月尺度下,气温、风速、降水和土壤水分是冠层蒸腾的主要影响因子;冠层蒸腾与降水、大气相对湿度的相关关系由日尺度下的负相关到月尺度的正相关,相关性增强。总体来看,随时间尺度由小到大,气温、风速、大气相对湿度、降水、土壤水分对冠层蒸腾的影响作用增大,而太阳辐射强度、饱和水汽压差的作用减弱;在未来增温增雨趋势下,研究区生长季将延长,华北落叶松人工林冠层蒸腾量可能会加大。  相似文献

c-fos gene expression in the cervical spinal cord and amygdala was examined in anaesthetized rats following muscle fatigue caused by intermittent high-rate (100 s−1) electrical stimulation of the dorsal neck muscles (m. trapezius and m. splenius). Fatigue-related increases in c-fos expression were observed on the stimulated muscle side in the cervical C2–C4 (layers 1, 3–5, 7 and 10) spinal segments, bilaterally in the lumbar L4–L6 (layer 1) segments and in contralateral central (Ce), medial (Me), and basomedial (BM) amygdaloid nuclei. A scarce number of staining cells were found within lateral and basolateral nuclei. The rostro-caudal extent of c-fos expression in the spinal cord supports functional coupling of the cervical and lumbar regions during the neck muscle fatigue development. The distinct c-fos expression in the Ce and Me amygdaloid nuclei suggests that they may contribute to mediating the neck muscle fatigue-related nociception, autonomic and behavioural responses.  相似文献

Summary The electron microprobe microanalyser has been used to measure the concentrations of Ca, P and S in the predentine of young rat incisors. The specimens were prepared as alcohol fixed embedded ultrathin sections, unfixed vacuum embedded dry cut ultrathin sections and as thin cryostat sections. The results show the influence of preparation on the measured compositions and indicate that Ca is tightly bound to the matrix, whereas P can be easily washed out. Measurements along the dentine-predentine border demonstrated zones of Ca enrichment, the average size of which suggests that the zones could be the prestages of calcospherites. A mineralisation mechanism is discussed in which the high Ca concentration activates pyrophosphatase or ATPase before the onset of nucleation.The authors express their thanks to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft for financial support  相似文献

A detailed 3D FE model of the human neck was used to assess a possible relationship between risk of injury and cervical spine curvature for various impacts. A FE model was previously developed, representing the head and neck of a 50th percentile human with a normal lordotic curvature. The model behaviour was omni-directionally validated for various impacts using published results. For the present study, the model was deformed in order to obtain a straight and a kyphotic curvature, and for each geometry, rear-end, frontal, lateral and oblique impact were simulated. Although results showed similar kinematic patterns, significant differences were found in the distribution and peak values of ligament elongations, forces and moments along the cervical spine for the three configurations. It was concluded that the variability observed on the curvature of the human cervical spine may have a significant influence both on the behaviour and on the risk of injury of the neck during impact.  相似文献

1. Biparental care is stabilised if parents perform different tasks during care. Specialised parental roles may require different time and energy budgets that in turn are expected to influence the activity and space use of sexes. 2. Here we investigate movement patterns of the biparental Lethrus apterus beetle using a grid of pitfall traps in their natural habitat. 3. Sexes of the burrow building L. apterus perform different roles during caregiving, as females collect most of the leaves, which serve as food for the offspring while paired males stay mostly in the burrow. We hypothesised that sex differences in mate search and parental activities are reflected in movement patterns. 4. We found that females frequently travelled short distances, whereas males were detected less often but when detected, they travelled significantly longer distances than females. 5. Our results are consistent with the notion that efficient parental food provisioning requires more localised movement and activity patterns. Furthermore, the long distance movements of some males may indicate active mate searching behaviour.  相似文献
