During the last years, a well documented expansion ofragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Ambrosia trifida L.) over the Mediterranean andtemperate Europe has been in progress. The currentdistribution of ragweed plants in the Czech Republicis summarized and the ragweed pollen concentration asmonitored by 12 pollen stations in the country isdiscussed. The present situation in the ragweed pollensensitization among children and adults with pollenallergy in Brno is described. So far no dangerousexpansion of ragweed plants in our country has beenobserved. Ragweed pollen concentration is occasionallysignificant in the Brno station only, other pollenstations are reporting insignificant amounts ofragweed pollen during August-September periods,although there has been a steady increase in ragweedpollen concentration in the Prague area over the lastfive years. Skin prick tests and/or specific IgEmeasurements with ragweed allergen were performed on94 children with pollen allergy in the Brno region in1995 and on 206, 210 and 229 adult allergic patientsin 1995, 1996 and 1997, respectively. Positive skinreaction or positive specific IgE to ragweed was foundin 22% children and in 25% (1995), 19% (1996) and 25% (1997) adults with pollen allergy. It isconcluded that ragweed does not seem to represent anyimminent major threat to the allergic population inthe Czech Republic until now, however, it remains apotentially very dangerous allergen. 相似文献

In this paper, activity concentrations of radiocesium in mushrooms from various locations in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in the years 2000–2004 are presented. Summary reports of Czech regulatory bodies have judged the average activity concentrations in mushrooms to be remarkably below the maximum permissible level of contamination. However, there are certain regions where radiocesium activities have approached the maximum permissible level for contamination of basic foodstuff. For example, the highest activity concentration of 137Cs measured by gamma-spectrometry was 2,263 Bq kg−1 (on a dry mass basis), in Xerocomus badius from Staré Ransko (a locality in the Czech-Moravian Highlands, Czech Republic). The highest activity concentration of 137Cs measured in Slovakia was 966 Bq kg−1 (on a dry mass basis), for Suillus luteus from Senica. For comparison, the corresponding activity concentration in a sample taken within the 30 km zone around Chernobyl was measured to be 6,000 Bq kg−1 (on a dry mass basis). Our results have also demonstrated remarkably lower activity concentrations of 137Cs in Slovakia compared to those in the Czech Republic. 相似文献

Purpose
Waste prevention has been assigned increasing attention worldwide during recent years, and it is expected to become one of the core elements of waste management planning in the near future. In this framework, this paper presents and discusses two possible LCA approaches for the evaluation of the environmental and energetic performance of municipal solid waste (MSW) management systems which include the effects of waste prevention activities.Methods
The two approaches are conceived for the comparison of waste management scenarios including waste prevention activities with baseline scenarios without waste prevention. For both of them, the functional unit is defined and the system boundaries are described with reference to different typologies of waste prevention activities identified in an extensive review. The procedure for the calculation of the LCA impacts of scenarios is also reported and an example illustrating the processes to be included in system boundaries for a specific waste prevention activity is provided.Results and discussion
The presented approaches lead to the same result in terms of difference between the LCA impacts of a waste prevention scenario and of a baseline one. However, because of the partially different upstream system boundaries, different values of the impacts of single scenarios are obtained and the application of the two approaches is more suitable in different situations and in analyses with different purposes. The methodological aspects that can complicate the applicability of the two approaches are discussed lastly.Conclusions
The environmental and energetic performance of MSW management scenarios including waste prevention activities can be evaluated with the two LCA approaches presented in this paper. They can be used for many purposes such as, among the most general, evaluating the upstream and downstream environmental consequences of implementing particular waste prevention activities in a given waste management system, complementing waste reduction indicators with LCA-based indicators and supporting with quantitative evidence the strategic and policy relevance of waste prevention. 相似文献7.

Intention, Goal, Scope, Background To discuss the process of stakeholder involvement as undertaken in a post-consumer paper and packaging waste management LCA
study conducted during 1997-2001 for the Melbourne Metropolitan Area, Victoria, Australia. Secondly, to present the findings
from a survey conducted with the stakeholder groups regarding their perception of involvement in the project.
Objectives To investigate the stakeholder’s perception; and value of being involved in the LCA study intended to generate quantitative
environmental information to support debate, development and implementation of waste management practices.
Methods Stakeholders that were involved in the study, both actively and passively, were surveyed by questionnaire Survey findings
were analysed in conjunction with stakeholder interaction experiences obtained in the course of the study. as]Results and
Discussion
Respondents to the survey believed there was a sufficient level of interaction between stakeholders and researchers during
the course of the project. The advisory committee approach helped to timely recognize issues and deal with them appropriately.
It furdier assisted in the collection of life cycle inventory data and in obtaining ownership of outcomes by the research
ream appropriately responding to the needs and issues raised by stakeholders.
Recommendations and Outlook General recommendations for the inclusion of stakeholders in future studies are to use stakeholder interactions, wherever
it is possible and practical, which in turn play an educational role, engage stakeholders from the start of the process and
allow additional time in the project plan for review stages, as well as ensuring that all relevant groups are represented
— industry, industry associations, government and non-governmental organizations, and also provide sufficient material and

Aim, Scope and Background When materials are recycled they are made available for use for several future life cycles and can therefore replace virgin
material more than just once. In order to analyse the optimal waste management system for a given material, the authors have
analysed the material flows in a life cycle perspective. It is important to distinguish this approach for material flow analysis
for a given material from life cycle analysis of products. A product life cycle analysis analyses the product system from
cradle to grave, but uses some form of allocation in order to separate the life cycle of one product from another in cases
where component materials are recycled. This paper does not address allocation of burdens between different product systems,
but rather focuses on methodology for decision making for waste management systems where the optimal waste management system
for a given material is analysed. The focus here is the flow of the given material from cradle (raw material extraction) to
grave (the material, or its inherent energy, is no longer available for use). The limitation on the number of times materials
can be recycled is set by either the recycling rate, or the technical properties of the recycled material.
Main Features This article describes a mathematical geometric progression approach that can be used to expand the system boundaries and
allow for recycling a given number of times. Case studies for polyethylene and paperboard are used to illustrate the importance
of including these aspects when part of the Goal and Scope for the LCA study is to identify which waste management treatment
options are best for a given material. The results and discussion examine the different conclusions that can be reached about
which waste management option is most environmentally beneficial when the higher burdens and benefits of recycling several
times are taken into account.
Results In order to assess the complete picture of the burdens and benefits arising from recycling the system boundaries must be expanded
to allow for recycling many times. A mathematical geometric progression approach manages to take into account the higher burdens
and benefits arising from recycling several times. If one compares different waste management systems, e.g. energy recovery
with recycling, without expanding the system to include the complete effects of material recycling one can reach a different
conclusion about which waste management option is preferred.
Conclusions When the purpose of the study is to compare different waste management options, it is important that the system boundaries
are expanded in order to include several recycling loops where this is a physical reality. The equations given in this article
can be used to include these recycling loops. The error introduced by not expanding the system boundaries can be significant.
This error can be large enough to change the conclusions of a comparative study, such that material recycling followed by
incineration is a much better option than waste incineration directly.
Recommendations and Outlook When comparing waste management solutions, where material recycling is a feasible option, it is important to include the relevant
number of recycling loops to ensure that the benefits of material recycling are not underestimated. The methodology presented
in this article should be used in future comparative studies for strategic decision-making for waste management. The approach
should not be used for LCAs for product systems without due care, as this could lead to double counting of the benefits of
recycling (depending on the goal and scope of the analysis). For materials where the material cycle is more of a closed loop
and one cannot truly say that recycled materials replace virgin materials, a more sophisticated approach will be required,
taking into account the fact that recycled materials will only replace a certain proportion of virgin materials. 相似文献

Goal, Scope and Background Gipuzkoa is a department of the Vasque Country (Spain) with a population of about 700,000 people. By the year 2000 approximately
85% of municipal solid waste in this area was managed by landfilling, and only 15% was recycled. Due to environmental law
restrictions and landfill capacity being on its limit, a planning process was initiated by the authorities. LCA was used,
from an environmental point of view, to assess 7 possible scenarios arising from the draft Plan for the 2016 time horizon.
Main Features In each scenario, 9 waste flows are analysed: rest waste, paper and cardboard, glass containers, light packaging, organic-green
waste, as well as industrial/commercial wood, metals and plastics, and wastewater sludge. Waste treatments range from recycling
to energy recovery and landfilling.
Results Recycling of the waste flows separated at the source (paper and cardboard, glass, light packaging, organic-green waste, wood
packaging, metals and plastics) results in net environmental benefits caused by the substitution of primary materials, except
in water consumption. These benefits are common to the 7 different scenarios analysed. However, some inefficiencies are detected,
mainly the energy consumption in collection and transport of low density materials, and water consumption in plastic recycling.
The remaining flows, mixed waste and wastewater sludge, are the ones causing the major environmental impacts, by means of
incineration, landfilling of partially stabilised organic material, as well as thermal drying of sludge. With the characterisation
results, none of the seven scenarios can be clearly identified as the most preferable, although, due to the high recycling
rates expected by the Plan, net environmental benefits are achieved in 9 out of 10 impact categories in all scenarios when
integrated waste management is assessed (the sum of the 9 flows of waste). Finally, there are no relevant differences between
scenarios concerning the number of treatment plants considered. Nevertheless, only the effects on transportation impacts were
assessed in the LCA, since the plant construction stage was excluded from the system boundaries.
Conclusions The results of the study show the environmental importance of material recycling in waste management, although the recycling
schemes assessed can be improved in some aspects. It is also important to highlight the environmental impact of incineration
and landfilling of waste, as well as thermal drying of sludge using fossil fuels. One of the main findings of applying LCA
to integrated waste management in Gipuzkoa is the fact that the benefits of high recycling rates can compensate for the impacts
of mixed waste and wastewater sludge.
Recommendations and Outlook Although none of the scenarios can be clearly identified as the one having the best environmental performance, the authorities
in Gipuzkoa now have objective information about the future scenarios, and a multidisciplinary panel could be formed in order
to weight the impacts if necessary. In our opinion, LCA was successfully applied in Gipuzkoa as an environmental tool for

A unique human case of alveolar echinococcosis was described in 1979 from the Klatovy district of the Czech Republic. However, there were no previous epidemiological studies in this area focusing on detection of the source of infection--Echinococcus multilocularis adults producing eggs. During the period June 1997 to April 1999, 29 out of a total of 46 (63.3%) red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in the Klatovy district and one of four foxes (25.0%) in the Pilsen South district were found to be infected with adult worms of E. multilocularis. No E. multilocularis adults were found in other animals from the Klatovy district (i.e. three specimens of Martes martes, two Martes foina, one Mustela erminea, two Meles meles and one Felis catus f. domestica). An examination of faecal samples from 55 dogs (Canis familiaris) from the Klatovy district resulted in the detection of E. multilocularis DNA in one (1.8%) sample. The present results support the possibility that human alveolar echinococcosis previously described in the Czech Republic had the character of an autochthonous infection. The distribution and ecology of desmids in wetland habitats in the Czech Republic were studied during 2003–2007. Samples were
taken also from various aerophytic habitats and temporary pools thet had not been sufficiently studied before. Altogether
110 desmids taxa were found in 31 samples which were ordinated on the basis of their desmid species composition using a multivariate
statistic method. The discussion focuses on the most interesting findings and on the factors that influence the distribution
of desmids in different types of aerophytic habitats.

Cytological diagnosis of atypical cells of cervix uteri by the Papanicolaou method was introduced in the Czech Republic (CR) very early - in 1947. The first data on the incidence of cervical cancer in CR are available from 1960 when the rate was 32.3 cases/10(5) women. In 1966 the Czech National Health Law was passed that guaranteed women a yearly preventive examination by a gynaecologist including screening for cervical carcinoma that would be covered by the compulsory health insurance. Notwithstanding high frequency of screening visits and the fact that all women are eligible, the incidence of CC has not changed in the last 34 years. The reasons for this include the coverage of Czech women, which is estimated to be low (50% at the most), and that none of the cytology laboratories are accredited for screening, there are no national registries for any aspect of screening and there are no mechanisms for evaluation of the screening process. As a result, it is likely that the majority of cervical screening activity that is undertaken is ineffective and the implementation of an organised and quality controlled screening programme, in compliance with the recommendations of many European Institutions, is urgently required to ensure that Czech women are properly protected against this disease and that scarce healthcare resources are used in the most cost-effective manner. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence of cervical cancer in the Czech Republic. STUDY DESIGN: Investigation of the cause of the unfavorable level of cervical cancer through incidence and laboratory performance. RESULTS: Repeatedly modified screening program measures did not lower the incidence significantly. The incidence in various regions of the Czech Republic differed without fully correlating with patients' life situations. There has been an important shift in incidence toward teenagers and the elderly. Analysis of laboratory work showed that it is necessary to educate smear takers/clinicians and ensure their cooperation with cytology laboratories. CONCLUSION: The various types of screening programs did not lower the cervical carcinoma incidence. It is essential to provide adequate cytologic smears and sufficient laboratory personnel for their proper evaluation. 相似文献
