The purpose of this study was to determine whether a program of regular sprint exercise training alters the functional properties or protects against the development of fatigue in fast- and slow-twitch rat skeletal muscle. The training program consisted of 6 sprints of 4.5-min duration at 40 m/min and 15% slope with 2.5-min rest intervals, performed 5 days/wk for 6 wk. The exercise program significantly increased (P less than 0.05) citrate synthase activity (mumol X g-1 X min-1) in the predominantly type I soleus (SOL) from 28 +/- 2 to 44 +/- 2; the type IIb superficial region of the vastus lateralis (SVL) from 10 +/- 1 to 16 +/- 1; and the type IIa deep region of the vastus lateralis (DVL) from 34 +/- 2 to 53 +/- 2. Phosphofructokinase activity (mumol X g-1 X min-1) also increased with training in the SOL (17 +/- 1 vs. 23 +/- 1) and the DVL (64 +/- 5 vs. 79 +/- 5). Sprint training reduced (P less than 0.05) the contraction time (CT) (111 +/- 7 vs. 92 +/- 3 ms) and the one-half relaxation time (118 +/- 3 vs. 104 +/- 2 ms) in the slow-twitch soleus. The exercise program also induced a decreased CT in the fast-twitch extensor digitorum longus (EDL), but significance was limited to the P less than 0.1 level. Muscle fatigue was produced by electrical stimulation at 45 trains/min and either 15 trains/min in SOL or 10 trains/min in the EDL and SVL for 1, 5, or 10 min.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

1. Acetazolamide (ACET)-resistant and -sensitive carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity was measured in post-mitochondrial supernatants from the soleus (SOL), deep vastus lateralis (DVL) and superficial vastus lateralis (SVL) muscles of rats and rabbits. 2. The relative total CA activity in the three muscles of both species can be summarized as SOL greater than DVL greater than SVL. 3. ACET-resistant CA activity was found in the SOL and DVL muscles of both species whereas a low level of ACET-sensitive CA activity was detected in the SVL muscle. 4. ACET-sensitive CA activity was also found in sarcoplasmic reticulum preparations from rat and rabbit SOL muscles.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of regular voluntary exercise in pregnant normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats on 1) uteroplacental perfusion and mean arterial pressure in the resting conscious condition and 2) fetal number, fetal weight, and number of fetal resorptions. WKYs and SHRs were randomly assigned to standard cages [CWKY (n = 10); CSHR (n = 6)] or cages with activity wheels [EWKY (n = 7); ESHR (n = 8)]. EWKYs and ESHRs exercised for 12 wk, and then all rats were bred and experiments were conducted on gestational day 17. Resting blood flow (microspheres), heart rate (HR), and mean arterial pressure (Pa) were measured. No significant difference was found in Pa, HR, uterine blood flow (ESHRs 52 +/- 8 ml.min-1.100 g-1; CSHRs 28 +/- 6 ml.min-1.100 g-1), or maternal placental blood flow (ESHRs, 122 +/- 31 ml.min-1.100 g-1; CSHRs 78 +/- 21 ml.min-1.100 g-1) among the groups. Exercise altered the relationship between maternal placental and uterine blood flow and Pa in the SHR; SHRs with lower Pa maintained higher placental and uterine blood flow after training. Before gestation ESHRs ran on average more kilometers per week than EWKYs (43 +/- 3 vs. 34 +/- 4), but during gestation ESHRs averaged fewer kilometers per week than EWKYs (16 +/- 4 vs. 22 +/- 4). Succinate dehydrogenase activity was higher in the white vastus lateralis (1.02 +/- 0.2 mumol cytochrome c reduced.min-1.g wet wt-1) and vastus intermedius (3.1 +/- 0.5 mumol cytochrome c reduced.min-1.g wet wt-1) muscles of ESHRs.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Glutathione status and antioxidant enzymes in various types of rat skeletal muscle were studied after an acute bout of exercise (Ex) at different intensities. Glutathione (GSH) and glutathione disulfide (GSSG) concentrations were the highest in soleus (SO) muscle, followed by those in deep (DVL) and then superficial (SVL) portions of vastus lateralis. In DVL, but not in SO or SVL, muscle GSH increased proportionally with Ex intensity and reached 1.8 +/- 0.08 mumol/g wet wt compared with 1.5 +/- 0.03 (P < 0.05) in resting controls (R). GSSG in DVL was increased from 0.10 +/- 0.01 mumol/g wet wt in R to 0.14 +/- 0.01 (P < 0.05) after Ex. Total glutathione (GSH + GSSG) contents in DVL were also significantly elevated with Ex, whereas GSH/GSSG ratio was unchanged. Activities of GSH peroxidase (GPX), GSSG reductase (GR), and catalase (CAT) were significantly higher in SO than in DVL and SVL, but there was no difference in superoxide dismutase activity between the three muscle types. Furthermore, Ex at moderate intensities elicited significant increases in GPX, GR, and CAT activities in DVL muscle. None of the antioxidant enzymes was affected by exercise in SO. It is concluded that rat DVL muscle is particularly vulnerable to exercise-induced free radical damage and that a disturbance of muscle GSH status is indicative of an oxidative stress.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to determine if carbonic anhydrase III (CA III) demonstrated a specific association for any particular organelle or structure of the skeletal muscle cell and to quantify the activity and content of this enzyme in different types of skeletal muscle fibers. Ultrastructural localization of CA III in the soleus (SOL), deep vastus lateralis (DVL), and superficial vastus lateralis (SVL), composed of predominantly type I, IIa, and IIb fibers, respectively, was performed using a high-resolution immunocytochemical technique and antibody specific for CA III on ultra-thin sections of skeletal muscle embedded in the water-soluble medium polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The results indicated a uniform distribution of CA III within the sarcomere. Mitochondria, nuclei, triads, Z-, and M-bands were not specifically labeled. Immunoblotting of washed myofibril preparations did not show any detectable CA III associated with this structure. In addition to quantification of the immunogold labeling, CA III activity and content were assayed in the post-mitochondrial supernatant of the three muscles. In the SOL, these values were found to be 3.6-7.6 times higher than in the DVL. The SVL showed a labeling intensity slightly higher than background level, while the enzyme activity and content were indistinguishable from background levels. We therefore conclude that CA III is randomly distributed in the cytoplasm of the three muscle fiber types and that the relative CA III content and activity in the three muscles studied is SOL greater than DVL greater than SVL approximately equal to 0.  相似文献

An isolated perfused rat hindlimb preparation was used to study the impact of local muscle adaptations induced by endurance exercise training on muscle performance and peak muscle oxygen consumption. Rats were trained for 12-15 wk by a running program (30 m/min up a 15% grade for 1 h/day 5 days/wk) shown previously to increase muscle mitochondrial enzyme activity. Sedentary (n = 11) and trained (n = 11) hindlimbs of similar size were perfused with a similar inflow (12.1 ml/min) at a similar oxygen content (18.1 ml O2/100 ml blood). Tetanic contractions (100 ms at 100 Hz) at 4, 8, 15, 30, 45, and 60/min were elicited in consecutive order. Initial tension was better maintained by muscles of trained animals at all frequencies above 4 tetani/min (P less than 0.05). Oxygen consumption (mumol.min-1.g-1) increased similarly in both groups at the lower contraction frequencies but was greater (P less than 0.05) in the trained [3.52 +/- 0.32 (SE)] than in the sedentary (2.44 +/- 0.31) group at 60 tetani/min. The peak oxygen consumption of the trained group (3.93 +/- 0.27) was 20% greater (P less than 0.05) than that of the sedentary group (3.28 +/- 0.28) when peak values for each animal, irrespective of the contraction condition, are compared. Blood flows to the contracting muscle (approximately 100 ml.min-1.g-1) and, therefore, oxygen deliveries (mumol.min-1.g-1) were not different between sedentary (7.99 +/- 0.56) and trained groups (8.35 +/- 0.61). Thus the 20% higher peak oxygen consumption was achieved by a greater oxygen extraction.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Endurance-training-induced cellular adaptations in respiratory muscles   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Controversy exists concerning the adaptability of mammalian respiratory muscles in response to endurance training. We examined the effects of 8 wk of progressive treadmill exercise (45 min/day 5 days/wk) on the biochemical adaptations of rat diaphragm and intercostal muscles. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to a sedentary control (n = 10) or an exercise-training group (n = 10). Endurance training resulted in an enhanced oxidative capacity in the anterior costal diaphragm as evidenced by a 29% increase (P less than 0.05) in the activity of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in trained animals compared with controls (4.15 +/- 0.13 vs. 3.21 +/- 0.17 mumol.g-1.min-1). Similarly, SDH activity in the intercostal muscles was 32% greater (P less than 0.05) in the trained animals than in the untrained animals (1.72 +/- 0.11 vs. 1.30 +/- 0.06 mumol.g-1.min-1). In contrast, the crural region of the diaphragm showed no significant increase (P greater than 0.05) in oxidative capacity as a result of the training program (3.28 +/- 0.12 vs. 3.13 +/- 0.18). Furthermore, training did not alter (P less than 0.05) lactate dehydrogenase activity in the intercostals or in the crural or the costal diaphragm. These data demonstrate that the oxidative capacity of the costal diaphragm and the intercostal muscles can be enhanced by increasing respiratory loads via regular endurance exercise. We speculate that the lack of metabolic adaptation in the crural region of the diaphragm was not due to limited plasticity of the fibers in this area but to failure to the exercise-training program to provide the appropriate stimulus for cellular adaptation.  相似文献

In this study maximum shortening velocity (Vmax) and isometric tension (P0) in skinned single fibers from rat slow soleus (SOL) and fast superficial vastus lateralis (SVL) muscles were examined after varying degrees of filament lattice compression with dextran. In both fiber types Vmax was greatest in the absence of dextran and decreased as the concentration of dextran was increased between 2.5 and 10 g/100 ml. At 10% dextran, which compressed fiber width by 31-38%, Vmax relative to the initial 0% dextran value was 0.28 +/- 0.03 (mean +/- SE) and 0.26 +/- 0.02 in SVL and SOL fibers, respectively. The effect of compression to depress Vmax was reversed completely by returning the fiber to 0% dextran. The force-generating capability of skinned fibers was not as sensitive to variations in cell width. In both the SOL and SVL fibers P0 increased by 3-7% when the concentration of dextran was increased from 0 to 5%. Further compression of lattice volume with 10% dextran resulted in a 8-13% decline in P0 relative to the initial value. While the precise mechanism by which filament lattice spacing modulates contractile function is not known, our results suggest that the major effect is upon the rate constant for cross-bridge detachment.  相似文献

Exercise training has been found to increase coronary vascularity of the heart in experimental animals. Maximum coronary flow and minimum coronary resistance were determined in 16 dogs with the injection of microspheres (15 micron) into the left atrium at rest and during the intravenous infusion of adenosine (0.7 mg X min-1 X kg-1). Heart rate was paced at 150 beats/min. Dogs were divided into three groups with microsphere injections made before and after 4-5 wk of daily exercise (group 1); before and after 8-10 wk of daily exercise (group II); and before and after 8-10 wk of cage rest (group III). Results of average left ventricular maximum myocardial flow before and after daily exercise were 4.08 +/- 0.34 and 4.89 +/- 0.33 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group I, 5.13 +/- 0.32 and 5.55 +/- 0.56 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group II, and 5.24 +/- 0.43 and 4.34 +/- 0.55 ml X min-1 X g-1 for group III. Arterial pressure, maximum coronary flow, and minimum coronary resistance were not significantly different before and after any condition in all three groups of dogs. Peak reactive hyperemia coronary flow was not altered by daily exercise. These results indicate that maximum coronary flow and minimum coronary resistance were not altered by either 4-5 or 8-10 wk of exercise training.  相似文献

Fiber type changes in rat skeletal muscle after intense interval training   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Female Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to a ten week training program to determine the influence of intense interval running on the fiber type composition of selected hindlimb muscles; soleus (S), plantaris (P), deep vastus lateralis (DVL), and superficial vastus lateralis (SVL). The muscles of one hindlimb were used for histochemical ATPase analysis to determine the distribution of fiber types and those of the contralateral hindlimb were assayed biochemically for citrate synthase activity (an aerobic marker). Training induced a significant increase in citrate synthase activity in each muscle section. The largest absolute increase occurred in the DVL and the largest relative increase occurred in the SVL. The distribution of fiber types within the S (85% slow-twitch) and SVL (100% fast-twitch) remained unchanged with training. However, significant increases in the percentage of type I (slow-twitch) fibers in both the P (2-fold) and DVL (3-fold) were observed with concomitant decreases in the type II (fast-twitch) population. In addition, training induced significant changes in the fast-twitch subtype populations of the DVL (IIB----IIA). These data suggest exercise-induced fiber type transformations occurring both within the fast-twitch population and between fast-twitch and slow-twitch fibers in certain hindlimb muscles of the rat following a high intensity interval training program.  相似文献

The effect of very long endurance exercise on muscle carnitine was studied. Eighteen cross-country skiers took part in a race in the Alps (average inspired partial pressure of O2 100-110 Torr) that lasted on average 13 h 26 min. Carnitine intake, evaluated for 2 wk before the event, was 50 +/- 4 (SE) mg/day. Muscle (vastus lateralis) total carnitine concentration, measured twice with a 2-yr interval on eight rested subjects, did not change with time (17 vs. 16 mumol/g dry wt, NS) but showed consistent interindividual differences (range 12-22, P = 0.001) with no correlation with intake. After exercise, total muscle carnitine was unaltered (from 17.9 +/- 1.0 at rest to 18.3 +/- 0.8 mumol/g dry wt postexercise in the 15 subjects who completed the race, NS), but muscle free carnitine decreased 20% (from 14.9 +/- 0.8 mumol/g, P = 0.01) and short-chain acylcarnitine increased 108% (from 3.5 +/- 0.4 mumol/g, P = 0.01). These results suggest that carnitine deficiency will probably not result from strenuous aerobic exercise in trained subjects who consume a moderate amount of carnitine in their food.  相似文献

Interrelationships of selected mechanical and biochemical properties of hindlimb extensor muscles following low thoracic cord transection were studied. Kittens were spinalized (Sp) at 2 wk and maintained for 6-12 mo. Some Sp animals were exercised (Sp-E) on a treadmill 25-30 min/day, 5 days/wk. In situ contractile properties of the slow-twitch soleus (SOL) and fast-twitch medical gastrocnemius (MG) muscles of normal (N), Sp, and Sp-E cats were determined. Exercise did not affect most parameters; thus Sp and Sp-E groups are considered collectively. The cross-sectional areas (CSA) of the SOL and MG decreased by 43 and 32%, respectively. Specific tension (tension/CSA) was maintained in the SOL but decreased (P less than 0.05) in the MG. Contraction time (CT) and half-relaxation time were significantly shorter in the SOL but unchanged in the MG. Maximum shortening velocity (Vmax) and myosin ATPase (mumol X mg-1 X min-1) increased (P less than 0.05) in the SOL of both groups and the MG of Sp. Frequency-tension responses of both muscles shifted toward that resembling a "faster" muscle. These results substantiate the existence of relatively independent regulatory mechanisms for Vmax and CT and show that myosin ATPase levels are more closely related to Vmax than CT. Although the changes in the SOL were consistent with the hypothesis that slow fibers are converted to fast, the elevated Vmax and myosin ATPase of the MG suggest that significant changes also occur within a "fast" fiber-type category.  相似文献

Exercise training reduces the muscle insulin resistance of the obese Zucker rat. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether the magnitude of this training response is exercise intensity specific. Obese Zucker rats were randomly divided into sedentary (SED), low-intensity (LI), and high-intensity (HI) exercise groups. For the LI rats, exercise training consisted of running on a rodent treadmill at 18 m/min up an 8% grade for 90 min. Rats in the HI group ran at 24 m/min up an 8% grade for four 17-min bouts with 3 min between bouts. Both exercise groups performed the same amount of work and trained 5 days/wk for 7 wk. To evaluate muscle insulin resistance, rat hindlimbs were perfused for 30 min with perfusate containing 6 mM glucose (0.15 mu Ci of D-[14C(U)] glucose/ml) and either a maximal (10.0 mU/ml) or a submaximal (0.50 mU/ml) insulin concentration. Perfusions were performed 48-56 h after the last exercise bout and a 12-h fast. In the presence of 0.5 mU/ml insulin, the rate of muscle glucose uptake was found to be significantly faster for the HI (9.56 +/- 0.66 mumol.h-1.g-1) than for the LI (7.72 +/- 0.65 mumol.h-1.g-1) and SED (6.64 +/- 0.44 mumol.h-1.g-1) rats. The difference in glucose uptake between the LI and SED rats was not significant. In the presence of 10.0 mU/ml insulin, the rate of glucose uptake was significantly faster for the HI (16.43 +/- 1.02 mumol.h-1.g-1) than for the LI rats (13.76 +/- 0.84 mumol.h-1.g-1) and significantly faster for the LI than for the SED rats (11.02 +/- 0.35 mumol.h-1.g-1).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

To assess the effects of endurance training on plasma glucose kinetics during moderate-intensity exercise in men, seven men were studied before and after 12 wk of strenuous exercise training (3 days/wk running, 3 days/wk cycling). After priming of the glucose and bicarbonate pools, [U-13C] glucose was infused continuously during 2 h of cycle ergometer exercise at 60% of pretraining peak O2 uptake (VO2) to determine glucose turnover and oxidation. Training increased cycle ergometer peak VO2 by 23% and decreased the respiratory exchange ratio during the final 30 min of exercise from 0.89 +/- 0.01 to 0.85 +/- 0.01 (SE) (P less than 0.001). Plasma glucose turnover during exercise decreased from 44.6 +/- 3.5 mumol.kg fat-free mass (FFM)-1.min-1 before training to 31.5 +/- 4.3 after training (P less than 0.001), whereas plasma glucose clearance (i.e., rate of disappearance/plasma glucose concentration) fell from 9.5 +/- 0.6 to 6.4 +/- 0.8 ml.kg FFM-1.min-1 (P less than 0.001). Oxidation of plasma-derived glucose, which accounted for approximately 90% of plasma glucose disappearance in both the untrained and trained states, decreased from 41.1 +/- 3.4 mumol.kg FFM-1.min-1 before training to 27.7 +/- 4.8 after training (P less than 0.001). This decrease could account for roughly one-half of the total reduction in the amount of carbohydrate utilized during the final 30 min of exercise in the trained compared with the untrained state.  相似文献

In this study, we employed single-leg submaximal cycle training, conducted over a 10-wk period, to investigate adaptations in sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca(2+)-regulatory proteins and processes of the vastus lateralis. During the final weeks, the untrained volunteers (age 21.4 +/- 0.3 yr; means +/- SE, n = 10) were exercising 5 times/wk and for 60 min/session. Analyses were performed on tissue extracted by needle biopsy approximately 4 days after the last training session. Compared with the control leg, the trained leg displayed a 19% reduction (P < 0.05) in homogenate maximal Ca(2+)-ATPase activity (192 +/- 11 vs. 156 +/- 18 micromol. g protein(-1). min(-1)), a 4.3% increase (P < 0.05) in pCa(50), defined as the Ca(2+) concentration at half-maximal activity (6.01 +/- 0.05 vs. 6.26 +/- 0.07), and no change in the Hill coefficient (1.75 +/- 0.15 vs. 1.76 +/- 0.21). Western blot analysis using monoclonal antibodies (7E6 and A52) revealed a 13% lower (P < 0.05) sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-ATPase (SERCA) 1 in trained vs. control in the absence of differences in SERCA2a. Training also resulted in an 18% lower (P < 0.05) SR Ca(2+) uptake and a 26% lower (P < 0.05) Ca(2+) release. It is concluded that a downregulation in SR Ca(2+) cycling in vastus lateralis occurs with aerobic-based training, which at least in the case of Ca(2+) uptake can be explained by reduction in Ca(2+)-ATPase activity and SERCA1 protein levels.  相似文献

Cerebral vasodilation in hypoxia may involve endothelium-derived relaxing factor-nitric oxide. Methylene blue (MB), an in vitro inhibitor of soluble guanylate cyclase, was injected intravenously into six adult ewes instrumented chronically with left ventricular, aortic, and sagittal sinus catheters. In normoxia, MB (0.5 mg/kg) did not alter cerebral blood flow (CBF, measured with 15-microns radiolabeled microspheres), cerebral O2 uptake, mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate, cerebral lactate release, or cerebral O2 extraction fraction (OEF). After 1 h of normobaric poikilocapnic hypoxia (arterial PO2 40 Torr, arterial O2 saturation 50%), CBF increased from 51 +/- 5.8 to 142 +/- 18.8 ml.min-1 x 100 g-1, cerebral O2 uptake from 3.5 +/- 0.25 to 4.7 +/- 0.41 ml.min-1 x 100 g-1, cerebral lactate release from 2 +/- 10 to 100 +/- 50 mumol.min- x 100 g-1, and heart rate from 107 +/- 5 to 155 +/- 9 beats/min (P < 0.01). MAP and OEF were unchanged from 91 +/- 3 mmHg and 48 +/- 4%, respectively. In hypoxia, 30 min after MB (0.5 mg/kg), CBF declined to 79.3 +/- 11.7 ml.min-1 x 100 g-1 (P < 0.01), brain O2 uptake (4.3 +/- 0.9 ml.min-1 x 100 g-1) and heart rate (133 +/- 9 beats/min) remained elevated, cerebral lactate release became negative (-155 +/- 60 mumol.min-1 x 100 g-1, P < 0.01), OEF increased to 57 +/- 3% (P < 0.01), and MAP (93 +/- 5 mmHg) was unchanged. The sheep became behaviorally depressed, probably because of global cerebral ischemia. These results may be related to interference with a guanylate cyclase-dependent mechanism.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The effectiveness of a mild-intensity exercise program to induce adaptations within skeletal muscle of animals with peripheral arterial insufficiency was evaluated using an isolated perfused hindlimb preparation at a muscle blood flow similar to the peak found in vivo. Adult rats were subjected to bilateral femoral artery stenosis sufficient to limit peak blood flow during exercise but not alter resting blood flow. Stenosed-trained (Sten-Trained) rats walked on a treadmill at an easily achieved speed (20 m/min with a 15% grade) 5 days wk. Exercise tolerance improved from 10 min initially to 2 h/day. Non-stenosed-sedentary (Non-Sten-Sed) and stenosed-sedentary (Sten-Sed) animals were limited to cage activity. Oxygen delivery to the contracting muscles was similar among groups (7.0 +/- 0.4, 7.3 +/- 0.6, and 6.6 +/- 0.6 mumol.min-1.g-1 in Non-Sten-Sed, Sten-Sed, and Sten-Trained, respectively; n = 13 each). Force development was better maintained by Sten-Trained muscle (P less than 0.001) during a sequence of tetanic contraction conditions. Peak oxygen consumption was greater (P less than 0.05) in the Sten-Trained (5.23 +/- 0.34 mumol.min-1.g-1) than in Non-Sten-Sed (4.08 +/- 0.35) and Sten-Sed (4.34 +/- 0.37) rats. The increased peak oxygen extraction (P less than 0.05) by the muscle of the Sten-Trained rats (82.5 +/- 7.1% of oxygen inflow vs. 58.7 +/- 4.7 and 57.4 +/- 5.0%, respectively) was probably related to the increased muscle capillarity and mitochondrial enzyme activity.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Effects of contraction frequency and duty cycle on diaphragmatic blood flow   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effects of diaphragmatic contraction frequency (no. of intermittent tetanic contractions/min) at a given tension-time index and of duty cycle (contraction time/total cycle time) on diaphragmatic blood flow were measured in anesthetized mongrel dogs during bilateral supramaximal phrenic nerve stimulation. Diaphragmatic blood flow was measured by the radionuclide-labeled microsphere method. Contraction frequency was varied between 10 and 160/min at duty cycles of 0.25 and 0.75. Diaphragmatic blood flow increased with contraction frequency from 1.47 +/- 0.13 ml X min-1 X g-1 (mean +/- SE) at an average of 18/min to 2.65 +/- 0.16 ml X min-1 X g-1 at 74/min (P less than 0.01) with a duty cycle of 0.25 and from 1.32 +/- 0.19 ml X min-1 X g-1 at an average of 15/min to 1.96 +/- 0.15 ml X min-1 X g-1 at 80/min (P less than 0.02) with a duty cycle of 0.75. At higher contraction frequencies diaphragmatic blood flow did not increase further at both duty cycles. In addition, diaphragmatic blood flow was higher with a duty cycle of 0.25 than 0.75 at all contraction frequencies. We conclude that frequency of contraction is a major determinant of diaphragmatic blood flow and that high duty cycle impedes diaphragmatic blood flow.  相似文献

The effect of endurance exercise on the capacity of crube homogenates (CH) to sequester Ca2+ was determined in the slow type I soleus, the fast type IIA deep region of the vastus lateralis (DVL), and the fast type IIB superficial region of the vastus lateralis (SVL). The Ca2+ uptake capacity was affected by exercise in a fiber type specific manner. The fast-twitch SVL showed a 35% decrease in the maximal rate of Ca2+ uptake (Vmax) and a significantly lower Km while the slow soleus and fast DVL were unaltered. The time course of Ca2+ uptake, and the peak amount of Ca2+ sequestered was not altered by exercise in any of the muscles studied. The homogenates from the exercise-trained soleus muscles exhibited an increased ability to retain Ca2+ and in this capacity became more like fast muscle.  相似文献
