The coral bleaching Vibrio shiloi LMG 19703T was characterized by means of Fluorescent Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (FAFLP), DNA-DNA hybridisation, mol% G+C content, fatty acids methyl ester (FAME) analysis and phenotypical tests. Numerical analysis of the FAFLP band patterns indicated that the type strain of V. shiloi in fact belongs to the species V. mediterranei. The type strains of both species shared 77% DNA similarity, as determined by DNA-DNA hybridisation experiments at stringent conditions. Moreover, V. shiloi and V. mediterranei showed almost identical fatty acid composition and phenotypical features. Collectively, the genotypic and phenotypic data presented in this study suggest that V. shiloi Kushmaro et al. 2001 should be considered a later synonym of V. mediterranei Pujalte and Garay 1986. The involvement of V. mediterranei in coral bleaching was unknown until now. 相似文献

Two Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, moderately halophilic, non-spore-forming and rod-shaped bacteria, designated M5N1S17T and M5N1S15, were isolated from saline soil in Baotou, China. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the two strains clustered closely with Halomonas montanilacus PYC7WT and shared 99.1 and 99.3% sequence similarities, respectively. The average nucleotide identity based on BLAST (ANIb) and MUMmer (ANIm) values of the two strains with each other were 95.5% and 96.7%, respectively, while the ANIb and ANIm values between the two strains and 15 closer Halomonas species were 74.8–91.3% and 84.1–92.6%, respectively. The major polar lipids of M5N1S17T are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, and an unidentified phospholipid. The major polar lipids of M5N1S15 are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, two unidentified phospholipids, and an unidentified lipid. The predominant ubiquinone in the two strains is Q-9. The major fatty acids of the two strains are C18:1 ω6c and/or C18:1 ω7c, C16:0, and C16:1 ω7c and/or C16:1 ω6c. Based on phylogenetic, phenotypic, and physiological results, strains M5N1S17T and M5N1S15 should be identified as a novel species of the genus Halomonas, for which Halomonas alkalisoli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is M5N1S17T (= CGMCC 1.19023T = KCTC 92130T). The phylogenetic trees showed that Halomonas daqingensis CGMCC 1.6443T clustered tightly with Halomonas desiderata FB2T, and the two strains shared >98.0% of ANI values with each other. Therefore, we propose the reclassification of H. daqingensis Wu et al. 2008 as a later heterotypic synonym of H. desiderata Berendes et al. 1996. 相似文献

The phylogeny of the hominoid primates: a statistical analysis of the DNA-DNA hybridization data 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Sibley and Ahlquist compared the single-copy nuclear DNA sequences of the
hominoid primates using DNA-DNA hybridization. From this data set they
estimated a phylogeny that clusters man and chimpanzees using a distance
Wagner procedure. However, no assessment of statistical confidence in this
estimated phylogeny was made, despite the fact that their data set contains
internal inconsistencies concerning the correct branching order. This paper
presents a modification of Pielou's Q- statistic that allows one to make
nonparametric tests of phylogenetic relationship from distance data. The
results of this analysis indicate that the estimated phylogeny of Sibley
and Ahlquist is without statistical significance owing to the internal
inconsistencies of the data set. A survey and additional analyses of other
types of molecular data indicate that the phylogeny that clusters
chimpanzees and gorillas and has the human lineage splitting off earlier is
statistically consistent with all the molecular data (including the DNA-DNA
hybridization data), whereas the phylogeny estimated by Sibley and Ahlquist
can be rejected at the 5% level using the data on restriction- endonuclease
sites in the mitochondrial genome.

Bifidobacterium lactis JCM 10602T (T = type strain) and Bifidobacterium animalis JCM 1190T were found to be phenotypically similar. These strains were subjected to investigation of their genetic relationships. The 16S rRNA sequence of B. animalis JCM 1190T was aligned with that of other Bifidobacterium species. B. animalis and B. lactis were the most closely related species in the phylogenetic tree and showed a high similarity in sequences (98.8%). The levels of DNA-DNA hybridization between the type strains of B. lactis and B. animalis ranged from 85.5 to 92.3%, showing that they represent a single species. It is proposed that B. lactis should be considered as a junior subjective synonym of B. animalis. 相似文献

I argue strongly that the Phylogenetic Species Concept offers the only way of defining species that makes them testable, as any scientific hypothesis should be. The criticisms made by Zachos et al. (in press) are not cogent, and do not offer a means of testing species proposals. Nonetheless, their comments on species concepts in conservation do provide support to the value of the Phylogenetic Species Concept. 相似文献

The intentional production and destruction each year of millions of companion animals is a sobering fact. The need for meaningful statistical data on this phenomenon is urgent. No less pressing, however, is the need for a conceptual framework to make sense of the empirical findings. The conventional focus on overpopulation is inadequate and places unnecessary limits on the way in which the problem is approached. I propose in its place a market-based model that takes seriously the role of consumer demand and considers the flaws and inefficiencies distorting the market for companion animals. Shifting attention to the choices consumers make in acquiring and discarding animal companions suggests new possibilities for change and provides a useful focal point for further empirical work. 相似文献

Two novel Gram-staining positive, rod-shaped, moderately halotolerant, endospore forming bacterial strains 5.5LF 38TD and 5.5LF 48TD were isolated and taxonomically characterized from a landfill in Chandigarh, India. The analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences of the strains confirmed their closest identity to Bacillus thermotolerans SgZ-8T with 99.9% sequence similarity. A comparative phylogenetic analysis of strains 5.5LF 38TD, 5.5LF 48TD and B. thermotolerans SgZ-8T confirmed their separation into a novel genus with B. badius and genus Domibacillus as the closest phylogenetic relatives. The major fatty acids of the strains are iso-C15:0 and iso-C16:0 and MK-7 is the only quinone. The major polar lipids are diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH) and ortho average nucleotide identity (ANI) values calculated through whole genome sequences indicated that the three strains showed low relatedness with their phylogenetic neighbours. Based on evidences from phylogenomic analyses and polyphasic taxonomic characterization we propose reclassification of the species B. thermotolerans into a novel genus named Quasibacillus thermotolerans gen. nov., comb. nov with the type strain SgZ-8T (= CCTCC AB2012108T = KACC 16706T). Further our analyses also revealed that B. encimensis SGD-V-25T is a later heterotypic synonym of Bacillus badius DSM 23T. 相似文献

We present comments on an article published by Confer et al. (Ecology and Evolution, 10, 2020). Confer et al. (2020) aggregate data from multiple studies of social pairing between Vermivora chrysoptera and V. cyanoptera, two wood warblers in the family Parulidae that hybridize extensively where they co‐occur. From analysis of these data, they conclude there is near‐complete reproductive isolation between these two species. In our reply, we show that this finding is not supported by other lines of evidence, and significant drawbacks of their study design preclude such strong conclusions. In our critique, we show that (a) coarse‐scale plumage classifications cannot be used to accurately estimate hybrid ancestry in Vermivora; (b) extra‐pair paternity is very high in Vermivora and is likely facilitating hybridization, yet was not considered by Confer et al. (2020), and we suggest this will have a substantial influence on the interpretation of reproductive isolation in the system; and (c) the central finding of strong total reproductive isolation is not compatible with the results of other long‐term studies, which demonstrate low isolation and high gene flow. We conclude with a more comprehensive interpretation of hybridization and reproductive isolation in Vermivora warblers. Vermivora warblers—golden‐winged and blue‐winged warblers—hybridize extensively where they co‐occur. We discuss concerns regarding recent suggestions that this extensive hybridization takes place in the face of near complete pre‐mating isolation, which we suggest is not consistent with other data. 相似文献

On the basis of the DNA–DNA hybridization patterns and phenotypic characteristics, Fusobacterium nucleatum was classified into five subspecies. Previous studies have suggested that F. nucleatum subsp. vincentii is genetically similar to F. nucleatum subsp. fusiforme. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of classifying these two subspecies into a single subspecies by phylogenetic analysis using a single sequence (24,715 bp) concatenated 22 housekeeping genes of eight F. nucleatum strains including type strains of five F. nucleatum subspecies. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that F. nucleatum subsp. vincentii and F. nucleatum subsp. fusiforme were clustered in the same group and each strain of other F. nucleatum subspecies were also separated into the same cluster. These results suggested that F. nucleatum subsp. fusiforme and F. nucleatum subsp. vincentii can be classified into a single subspecies. F. nucleatum subsp. vincentii was early published name; therefore, F. nucleatum subsp. fusiforme Gharbia and Shah 1992 can be regarded as a later synonym of F. nucleatum subsp. vincentii Dzink et al. 1990. 相似文献

Hymenidium apiolens and H. pilosum have been recorded to co-occur in the Himalayas, and it was found difficult to distinguish between them in the field. In this study, we reconstructed the phylogeny and estimated the genetic distance between individuals of H. apiolens, H. pilosum and related species based on nuclear ITS sequences, and rpl16 and rps16 introns, to determine the relationship between H. apiolens and H. pilosum. The analyses suggest that H. apiolens and H. pilosum are nested together, and that the ratio of genetic distance between them is smaller than that between individuals of Chamaesium spatuliferum, Hansenia forbesii or Ligusticum acuminatum. Furthermore, we found similar morphological characteristics of bracteoles, rays, petals and mericarps in H. apiolens and H. pilosum. Consequently, both molecular and morphological evidence supports that Hymenidium pilosum is a synonym of H. apiolens. 相似文献
