Functional training programs have been used in a variety of rehabilitation settings with documented success. Based on that success, the concept of functional training has gained popularity in applied fitness settings to enhance sport performance. However, there has been little or no research studying the efficacy of functional training programs on the improvement of sport performance or functional fitness. Thus, it was the purpose of this study to determine the effect of a progressive functional training program on club head speed and functional fitness in older male golfers. Eighteen male golfers (age: 70.7 +/- 9.1 [SD] years) were randomly assigned to an exercise (N = 11) or control (N = 7) group. The exercise group participated in an 8-week progressive functional training program including flexibility exercises, core stability exercises, balance exercises, and resistance exercises. Pre- and postmeasurements included club head speed of a driver by radar (exercise and Control) and Fullerton Senior Fitness Test measurements (exercise only). One-way analysis of covariance was performed on club head speed measurements using pretest measurements as the covariate. Paired t-tests were performed to analyze Senior Fitness Test variables. After the intervention, maximal club head speed increased in the exercise group (127.3 +/- 13.4 to 133.6 +/- 14.2 km x hr(-1)) compared with the control group (134.5 +/- 14.6 to 133.3 +/- 11.2 km x hr(-1); p < 0.05). Additionally, improvements (p < 0.05) were detected for most Senior Fitness Test variables in the exercise group. In summary, this functional training program resulted in significant improvements in club head speed and several components of functional fitness. Future research should continue to examine the effect of functional training programs on sport performance and functional fitness in older adults.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of 2 modes of aerobic exercise (continuous or intermittent) on maximum strength (1 repetition maximum, 1RM) and strength endurance (maximum repetitions at 80% of 1RM) for lower- and upper-body exercises to test the acute hypothesis in concurrent training (CT) interference. Eight physically active men (age: 26.9 +/- 4.2 years; body mass: 82.1 +/- 7.5 kg; height: 178.9 +/- 6.0 cm) were submitted to: (a) a graded exercise test to determine V(.-)O2max (39.26 +/- 6.95 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)) and anaerobic threshold velocity (3.5 mmol x L(-1)) (9.3 +/- 1.27 km x h(-1)); (b) strength tests in a rested state (control); and (c) 4 experimental sessions, at least 7 days apart. The experimental sessions consisted of a 5-kilometer run on a treadmill continuously (90% of the anaerobic threshold velocity) or intermittently (1:1 minute at V(.-)O2max). Ten minutes after the aerobic exercise, either a maximum strength or a strength endurance test was performed (leg press and bench press exercises). The order of aerobic and strength exercises followed a William's square distribution to avoid carryover effects. Results showed that only the intermittent aerobic exercise produced an acute interference effect on leg strength endurance, decreasing significantly (p < 0.05) the number of repetitions from 10.8 +/- 2.5 to 8.1 +/- 2.2. Maximum strength was not affected by the aerobic exercise mode. In conclusion, the acute interference hypothesis in concurrent training seems to occur when both aerobic and strength exercises produce significant peripheral fatigue in the same muscle group.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different resistance exercise orders on the number of repetitions performed to failure and on the ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) in trained women. Twenty-three women with a minimum of 2 years of resistance training experience volunteered to participate in the study (age, 24.2 +/- 4.5 years; weight, 56.9 +/- 4.7 kg; height, 162.3 +/- 5.9 cm; percent body fat, 18.2 +/- 2.9%; body mass index, 22.2 +/- 2 kg x m(-2)). Data were collected in 2 phases: (a) determination of a 1 repetition maximum (1RM) for the leg-press (LP), bench press (BP), leg extension (LE), seated machine shoulder press (SP), leg curl (LC), and seated machine triceps extension (TE); and (b) execution of 3 sets, with 2-minute rest intervals between sets and exercises, until fatigue using 80% of 1RM in 2 exercise sequences of the exact opposite order--Sequence A: BP, SP, TE, LP, LE, and LC, and Sequence B: LC, LE, LP, TE, SP, and BP. The RPE (Borg CR-10) was accessed immediately after each sequence and analyzed using a Wilcoxon test. A 2-way analysis of variance with repeated measurements, followed by a post hoc Fisher least significant difference test where indicated was used to analyze the number of repetitions per set of each exercise during the 2 sequences. The RPE was not significantly different between the sequences. The mean number of repetitions per set was always less when an exercise was performed later in the exercise sequence. The data indicate that in trained women, performance of both large- and small-muscle group exercises is affected by exercise sequence.  相似文献

The contribution of hyperthermia to the differential leukocytosis of exercise remains obscure. This study examined changes in circulating sympathoadrenal hormone concentrations and patterns of leukocyte and lymphocyte subset (CD3(+), CD4(+), CD8(+), CD19(+), CD3(-)16(+)/56(+)) redistribution during exercise, with and without a significant rise of rectal temperature (T(re)). Ten healthy men [age 26.9 +/- 5.7 (SD) yr, body mass 76.0 +/- 10.9 kg, body fat 13.9 +/- 4.6%, peak O(2) consumption: 48.0 +/- 12.4 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)] exercised for 40 min (65% peak O(2) consumption) during water immersion at 39 or 18 degrees C. T(re) increased from 37.2 to 39.3 degrees C (P < 0.0001) after 40 min of exercise in 39 degrees C water but was held constant to an increment of 0.5 degrees C during exercise in 18 degrees C water. Application of this thermal clamp reduced exercise-associated increments of plasma epinephrine (Epi) and norepinephrine (NE) by >50% (P < 0.05) and abolished the postexercise increase in cortisol. Thermal clamping also reduced the exercise-induced leukocytosis and lymphocytosis. Multiple regression demonstrated that T(re) had no direct association with lymphocyte subset mobilization but was significantly (P < 0.0001) correlated with hormone levels. Epi was an important determinant of total leukocytes, lymphocytes, and CD3(+), CD4(+), CD8(+), and CD3(-)CD16(+)/56(+) subset redistribution. The relationship between NE and lymphocyte subsets was weaker than that with Epi, with the exception of CD3(-)CD16(+)/56(+) counts, which were positively (P < 0.0001) related to NE. Cortisol was negatively associated with leukocytes, CD14(+) monocytes, and CD19(+) B- and CD4(+) T-cell subsets but was positively related to granulocytes. We conclude that hyperthermia mediates exercise-induced immune cell redistribution to the extent that it causes sympathoadrenal activation, with alterations in circulating Epi, NE, and cortisol.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a single bout of resistance exercise on immune cell numbers of moderately active men. Subjects were 16 male volunteers (mean +/- standard deviation [SD] age 30 +/- 7 years, height 180.1 +/- 7.0 cm, mass 83.97 +/- 10.33 kg); 8 were randomly assigned to treatment and 8 to control groups. Treatment was a common resistance training routine (3 sets of 8-10 repetitions at 75% of 1 repetition maximum) of 8 large muscle mass exercises using resistance machines. Blood samples were drawn before exercise and at 0 minutes (P0), 15 minutes (P15), and 30 minutes (P30) postexercise. Control subjects sat quietly in the training facility; blood was drawn at the same intervals as treatment. Leukocyte and lymphocyte (LY) subpopulation numbers were determined. Statistical analysis was analysis of variance (ANOVA) (repeated measures, p < or = 0.050) and multiple comparisons (Dunn method) to isolate variability. All leukocyte subpopulations, except basophils (BA) and eosinophils (EO), increased and counts declined by P15 and P30. Only neutrophils (NE) did not return to preexercise levels by P30. The majority of resistance exercise induced leukocytosis was due to an increase in circulating LY (natural killer cells increased most, CD4+/CD8+ ratio unchanged) and monocytes (MO). The transient, inconsequential immune cell population responses to resistance exercise are similar to those during aerobic activity. The lack of large alterations in and rapid recovery from cell number changes suggests that resistance exercise is not immunosuppressive.  相似文献

HIV-1 infection causes a severe T-cell impairment with alteration of immune response. However, in children the natural decline of lymphocytes and CD4 cells in early life makes it more difficult to monitor immunocompetence and progression of HIV-infection. Aim of this study was to characterize the CD8 response in non-vertically HIV-infected children exposed persistently to viremia and in HIV-infected children controlling efficiently viremia by ART, by analysing the effect of persistent viremia on CD4 and CD8 T-cells count, HIV-specific immune-response and naive/memory pattern of CD8 T-cell. Whereas, no differences of CD4 count between viremic patients and viral controllers were observed (1046.9 +/- 472.1 cells/microl vs 1101.3 +/- 415.4 cells/microl; p > 0.05), CD8 count was higher in the viremic patients (1080.6 +/- 652.1 cells/microl vs 747.5 +/- 389.9 cells/microl, p < 0.05). In viremic patients, HIV-specific CD8 T-cells correlated with viral load. However, in this group a loss of HIV-specific CD8 response was associated with a 7 fold decrease of na?ve and increase of pre-effector CD8 T-cells (62.8% +/- 10.21% vs 10.37% +/- 7.91%, p < 0.03). Persistent exposure to viremia alters HIV-specific CD8 response possibly through a persistent immune activation process leading to exhaustion of naive CD8 T-cells and skewed maturation of memory subset. Therefore, memory CD8 T-cells might lose the ability to respond correctly and efficiently to HIV-antigen exposure.  相似文献

Bed rest (BR) deconditioning causes excessive increase of exercise core body tempera-ture, while aerobic training improves exercise thermoregulation. The study was designed to determine whether 3 days of 6 degrees head-down bed rest (HDBR) affects body temperature and sweating dynamics during exercise and, if so, whether endurance training before HDBR modifies these responses. Twelve healthy men (20.7+/-0.9 yrs, VO2max: 46+/-4 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) ) underwent HDBR twice: before and after 6 weeks of endurance training. Before and after HDBR, the subjects performed 45 min sitting cycle exercise at the same workload equal to 60% of VO2max determined before training. During exercise the VO2, HR, tympanic (Ttymp) and skin (Tsk) temperatures were recorded; sweating dynamics was assayed from a ventilated capsule on chest. Training increased VO2max by 12.1% (p<0.001). Resting Ttymp increased only after first HDBR (by 0.22 +/- 0.08 degrees C, p<0.05), while exercise equilibrium levels of Ttymp were increased (p<0.05) by 0.21 +/- 0.07 and 0.26 +/- 0.08 degrees C after first and second HDBR, respectively. Exercise mean Tsk tended to be lower after both HDBR periods. Total sweat loss and time-course of sweating responses were similar in all exercise tests. The sweating threshold related to Ttymp was elevated (p<0.05) only after first HDBR. In conclusion: six-week training regimen prevents HDBR-induced elevation of core temperature (Ttymp) at rest but not during ex-ercise. The post-HDBR increases of Ttymp without changes in sweating rate and the tendency for lower Tsk suggest an early (<3d) influence of BR on skin blood flow.  相似文献

The order of resistance exercises within a training session may have a vital impact on the quality of the constituent exercises performed. However, very few studies have documented the specific influence of exercise order. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of exercise order on back squat performance in the context of a whole-body workout. Nine resistance-trained male subjects (age: 24 +/- 4 years, body mass: 81.5 +/- 15.3 kg, resistance-training experience: 7 +/- 4 years) performed the back squat exercise (4 sets at 85% of 1 repetition maximum) on 2 separate occasions in a balanced, crossover design. During one protocol, the squat exercise was performed first (protocol A); during the other protocol, it was performed after a whole-body resistance-exercise session (protocol B). Number of repetitions, average power, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were collected during each set of the squat exercise. All subjects performed significantly (p < 0.01) more repetitions during set 1 when they performed protocol A (8.0 +/- 1.9 repetitions) compared with protocol B (5.4 +/- 2.7 repetitions). The average power for each set was higher during protocol B compared with protocol A. There were no significant differences in RPE values between the 2 protocols. In conclusion, performing the barbell back squat first in an exercise session allowed the completion of more total repetitions. However, this study showed that performing the squat exercise after a whole-body workout session may result in greater power output if the squat is preceded by a power exercise (i.e., hang pull). This phenomenon may have been due to postactivation potentiation.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the sweat loss response during short-term heat acclimation in tropical natives. Six healthy young male subjects, inhabitants of a tropical region, were heat acclimated by means of nine days of one-hour heat-exercise treatments (40+/-0 degrees C and 32+/-1% relative humidity; 50% (.)VO(2peak) on a cycle ergometer). On days 1 to 9 of heat acclimation whole-body sweat loss was calculated by body weight variation corrected for body surface area. On days 1 and 9 rectal temperature (T(re)) and heart rate (HR) were measured continuously, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) every 4 minutes. Heat acclimation was confirmed by reduced HR (day 1 rest: 77+/-5 b.min(-1); day 9 rest: 68+/-3 b.min(-1); day 1 final exercise: 161+/-15 b.min(-1); day 9 final exercise: 145+/-11 b.min(-1), p<0.05), RPE (13 vs. 11, p<0.05) and T(re) (day 1 rest: 37.2+/-0.2 degrees C; day 9 rest: 37.0+/-0.2 degrees C; day 1 final exercise: 38.2+/-0.2 degrees C; day 9 final exercise: 37.9+/-0.1 degrees C, p<0.05). The main finding was that whole-body sweat loss increased in days 5 and 7 (9.49+/-1.84 and 9.56+/-1.86 g.m(-2).min(-1), respectively) compared to day 1 (8.31+/-1.31 g.m(-2).min(-1), p<0.05) and was not different in day 9 (8.48+/-1.02 g.m(-2).min(-1)) compared to day 1 (p>0.05) of the protocol. These findings are consistent with the heat acclimation induced adaptations and suggest a biphasic sweat response (an increase in the sweat rate in the middle of the protocol followed by return to initial values by the end of it) during short-term heat acclimation in tropical natives.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the additive effects of ballistic training to a traditional heavy resistance training program on upper- and lower-body maximal strength. Seventeen resistance-trained men were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: (i) a combined ballistic and heavy resistance training group (COM; age = 21.4 +/- 1.7 years, body mass = 82.7 +/- 15.1 kg) or (ii) a heavy resistance training group (HR; age = 20.1 +/- 1.2 years, body mass = 81.0 +/- 9.2 kg) and subsequently participated in an 8-week periodized training program. Training was performed 3 days per week, that is, 6-8 exercises per workout (6-8 traditional exercises for HR; 4-6 traditional + 2 ballistic exercises in COM) for 3-8 repetitions. A significant increase in 1-repetition maximum (1RM) squat was shown in both groups (COM = 15.2%; HR = 17.3%) with no difference observed between groups. However, 1RM bench press increased to a significantly greater extent (P = 0.04) in COM than HR (11.6% vs. 7.1%, respectively). For peak power attained during the jump squat, an interaction (P = 0.02) was observed where the 5.4% increase in COM and -3.2% reduction in HR were statistically significant. Nonsignificant increases were observed in peak plyometric push-up power in COM (8.5%) and HR (3.4%). Lean body mass increased significantly in both groups, with no between-group differences observed. The results of this study support the inclusion of ballistic exercises into a heavy resistance training program for increasing 1RM bench press and enhancing lower-body power.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if high-dose glutamine ingestion affected weightlifting performance. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, 6 resistance-trained men (mean +/- SE: age, 21.5 +/- 0.3 years; weight, 76.5 +/- 2.8 kg(-1)) performed weightlifting exercises after the ingestion of glutamine or glycine (0.3 g x kg(-1)) mixed with calorie-free fruit juice or placebo (calorie-free fruit juice only). Each subject underwent each of the 3 treatments in a randomized order. One hour after ingestion, subjects performed 4 total sets of exercise to momentary muscular failure (2 sets of leg presses at 200% of body weight, 2 sets of bench presses at 100% of body weight). There were no differences in the average number of maximal repetitions performed in the leg press or bench press exercises among the 3 groups. These data indicate that the short-term ingestion of glutamine does not enhance weightlifting performance in resistance-trained men.  相似文献

AIM: As the link between body fat and leptin is well known, the aim of the study was to seek for secondary regulators of plasma leptin level. PATIENTS: 86 women (mean: age 47.0+/-14.3 years; estradiol 50.0+/-60.6 ng/l; FSH 52.4+/-42.9 IU/l; BMI 26.9+/-5.9) divided into three groups according to their BMI. Group A: 39 normal weight women (mean: age 44.4+/-16.0 years; estradiol 69.6+/-79.8 ng/l; FSH 50.4+/-47.7 IU/l; BMI 22.9+/-1.3). Group B: 27 overweighted women (mean: age 55.0+/-6.4 years; estradiol 25.1+/-17.2 ng/l; FSH 75.6+/-26.3 IU/l; BMI 27.7+/-1.6). Group C: 21 obese women with mean: age 48.7+/-12.2 years; estradiol 36.9+/-44.0 ng/l; FSH 42.3+/-36.6 IU/l and BMI 34.6+/-4.9. METHODS: Standard clinical evaluation and hormone evaluation (LH, FSH, prolactin, estradiol, leptin, insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), human growth hormone (hGH), insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), insulin, dihydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS), sex hormone binding globin (SHBG) and testosterone were done in basic condition which levels of were measured by RIA kits. Statistical analysis. Shapiro-Wilk test, Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon u test, Spearman rank correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression: p values of 0.05 or less were considered as significant. RESULTS: Taking all women into account (n=86) the plasma leptin level correlated directly with age (r=0.32; p<0.02), body mass (r=0.60; p<0.001), BMI (r=0.71; p<0.001) as well as inversely with estradiol (r=-0.21; p<0.05), IGF-I (r=-0.24; p<0.05), SHBG (r=-0.34; p<0.01) and DHEAS (r=-0.30; p<0.01). However only in the group B leptin/age relation remained (r=0.40; p<0.05) after the division according to BMI. In the group B the leptin /DHEAS (r=-0.40; p<0.05) and leptin/PRL (r=0.51; p<0.05) links were also present. In the group C the leptin/SHGB relation (r=-0.56; p<0.02) only remained and an association between insulin and leptin was found (r=0.48; p<0.05). The body mass and BMI relation to age were again present only in all 86 women (r=0.30; p<0.002: r=0.36; p<0.001 resp.). Having split the women into groups, these links either disappeared or became inverse (rC=-0.39; p<0.05). Taking into consideration age/leptin relation in all women, the division according to the menopausal status revealed the direct relation in premenopausal women (n=29; r=0.43; p<0.02) and a reverse one in postmenopausal women (n=38; r=-0.32; p<0.05). The plasma leptin level was the highest (p<0.001) in group C (23.2+/-10.4 microg/l) and the lowest was found in the group A (8.9+/-4.1 microg/l). That corresponded with the differences in mean body mass index and mean body mass. The stepwise multiple regression revealed that body mass index accounted for 31% (p<0.001) and plasma SHBG level accounted for 17.7% (p<0.02) of plasma leptin variance in all women. In the group A body mass and age together accounted for 61% (p<0.01) and estradiol alone accounted for 44% (p<0.02) of plasma leptin variance. In the group B insulin alone accounted for 39% (p<0.05) and together with testosterone accounted for 46% (p<0.05) of plasma leptin variance. Finally in obese women none of the evaluated parameters significantly accounted for leptin variance. CONCLUSION: The results presented in this paper confirmed the strong influence of body fat mass on serum leptin concentration. However insulin, SHBG, sex steroids as well as age may also exert secondary influence on plasma leptin level in certain groups of women.  相似文献

The pulmonary vascular bed is an important reservoir for the marginated pool of leukocytes that can be mobilized by exercise or catecholamines. This study was designed to determine the phenotypic characteristics of leukocytes that are mobilized into the circulation during exercise. Twenty healthy volunteers performed incremental exercise to exhaustion [maximal O2 consumption (VO2 max)] on a cycle ergometer. Blood was collected at baseline, at 3-min intervals during exercise, at VO2 max, and 30 min after exercise. Total white cell, polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN), and lymphocyte counts increased with exercise to VO2 max (P < 0.05). Flow cytometric analysis showed that the mean fluorescence intensity of L-selectin on PMN (from 14.9 +/- 1 at baseline to 9.5 +/- 1.6 at VO2 max, P < 0.05) and lymphocytes (from 11.7 +/- 1.2 at baseline to 8 +/- 0.8 at VO2 max, P < 0.05) decreased with exercise. Mean fluorescence intensity of CD11b on PMN increased with exercise (from 10.2 +/- 0.6 at baseline to 25 +/- 2.5 at VO2 max, P < 0.002) but remained unchanged on lymphocytes. Myeloperoxidase levels in PMN did not change with exercise. In vitro studies showed that neither catecholamines nor plasma collected at VO2 max during exercise changed leukocyte L-selectin or CD11b levels. We conclude that PMN released from the marginated pool during exercise express low levels of L-selectin and high levels of CD11b.  相似文献

The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the influence of resistance training with a personal trainer versus unsupervised resistance training on the self-selected intensities used by women during resistance exercise. Forty-six resistance-trained women (age = 26.6 +/- 6.4 years; body mass = 64.2 +/- 10.9 kg) who either trained individually (n = 27; No PT) or with a personal trainer (n = 19; PT) were carefully instructed to select a weight they used in their own resistance training workouts that enabled the completion of 10 repetitions for the chest press (CP), leg press (LP), seated row (SR), and leg extension (LE) exercises. Each participant was subsequently tested for one repetition-maximum (1RM) strength on each exercise, and the self-selected intensity was calculated based on a percent of each 1RM value. For self-selected relative intensity, the PT group selected significantly greater intensities for LP (50% vs. 41%), CP (57.4% vs. 48%), and SR (56% vs. 42%) whereas a trend (p = 0.10) was observed for LE (43% vs. 38%) compared with No PT. Overall, the average self-selected intensity for all exercises was approximately 51.4% in PT group and approximately 42.3% in the No PT group. 1RM values for LP, LE, and SR were greater in the PT than No PT group. Ratings of perceived exertion values were significantly greater in the PT compared with the No PT group for CP, LE, and SR but not LP. These results indicate that resistance training under the supervision of a personal trainer leads to greater initial 1RM strength values, self-selection of greater workout intensities, and greater ratings of perceived exertion values during resistance exercise.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the muscle mass involved in exercise and post-exercise serum creatine kinase (CK) elevation. Twelve untrained college-aged men completed three isometric exercises: one arm flexion (OAF), two arm flexion (TAF) and one leg knee extension (OLE). These exercises were balanced over subjects and days and separated by two week intervals. Each exercise consisted of 40 maximal isometric concentrations lasting for 10 s with a 20 s rest between contractions. Relative increases in serum CK for OAF, TAF, and OLE were 181 +/- 70% (SD), 222 +/- 69% and 297 +/- 67%, respectively. An ANOVA using a latin square design for analysis of carry over effects showed that these CK increases were not significantly different (p greater than 0.05). However, the increase in serum CK following the first exercise (379 +/- 90%), regardless of what it was (OAF, TAF, or OLE), was significantly greater (p less than 0.05) than those following bouts 2 and 3 (155 +/- 29%; 167 +/- 54%). Regression analysis indicated that post-exercise serum CK elevation was not related to the amount of muscle mass involved in the exercise (r = 0.30, p greater than 0.05) nor to muscle tension developed (r = 0.28, p greater than 0.05). We conclude that post-exercise serum CK elevation is not necessarily related to the muscle mass involved in the exercise. Because each exercise involved the use of different muscle groups, factors outside the exercising muscle may contribute to post-exercise serum enzyme activity.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This investigation examined interactions between expansion of the extracellular fluid volume (ECE), osteopathic lymphatic pump treatment (LPT), and exercise on lymph flow in the thoracic duct of eight instrumented, conscious dogs. METHODS AND RESULTS: After recovery from surgery, LPT was performed for 8 min before and after ECE with normal saline, i.v., 4.4+/-0.3% of body weight. Baseline lymph flow was 1.7+/-0.5 mL/min. LPT rapidly increased lymph flow to 5.0+/-1.1 mL/min at 1 min, and lymph flow remained above baseline for 4 min (p<0.05). LPT produced a net increase in lymph flow of 15.4+/-1.1 mL. Following ECE, baseline lymph flow was 4.8+/-0.6 mL/min (p<0.05). LPT increased lymph flow to 9.9+/-1.1 mL/min at 1 min (p<0.05), and lymph flow remained above baseline for 4 min (p<0.05); all flow values after ECE were greater than corresponding values before ECE. However, the net increase in lymph flow produced by 8 min of LPT (18.3+/-3.8 mL) was not significantly greater than that observed before ECE. Moderate treadmill exercise increased lymph flow for 4 min before ECE and for 6 min after ECE. All lymph flows during exercise were greater after ECE than before ECE. The net increase in lymph flow produced by 8 min of exercise was 24.9+/-5.5 mL before ECE and 39.6+/-5.1 mL after ECE (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Expansion of the extracellular fluid volume produced large increases in thoracic duct lymph flow, that were further augmented by lymphatic pump treatment and by moderate treadmill exercise.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus is associated with increased generation of free oxygen radicals and depleted scavenging potential (oxidative stress), leading to increased LDL oxidation and platelet hyperreactivity, the major components of atherothrombotic vascular lesions. A main goal of antioxidant therapy is to protect the LDL particle from atherogenic oxidation and to reduce the activated cellular hemostasis. METHODS: We evaluated the influence of a high dose supplementation with 800 IU of the natural antioxidant RRR-alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) per day for six months on serum levels, vitamin E load of LDL particles (HPLC), lag phase of LDL oxidation (Esterbauer's assay), platelet adhesion molecules, leukocyte-platelet coaggregation (flow cytometry, D-III protocol) and coagulation (INR/PTT) in a group of 36 patients with type 2 diabetes (f/m 22/14; age 58+/-8.0; HbA1 at baseline 10.25+/-1.7). RESULTS: Average vitamin E levels increased 2.65-fold accompanied by a 1.83-fold increase of LDL-associated vitamin E and a 12.3 min prolongation of the lag-phase of LDL oxidation (p<0.001 for all parameters at six months). Platelet expression of PECAM-1 (CD31) (-30.2% positive cells, p<0.001; antigen density -25%, p<0.001), ICAM-2 (CD102) (-2.9% positive cells, p<0.01; antigen density -10.6%, p<0.001) and fibrinogen (-1.6% positive cells, p<0.001; antigen density - 16.1 %, p<0.001) decreased. Concomitantly, platelet-leukocyte-coaggregation increased by 44% (p<0.001), correlating to an INR reduction of 10.4% (1.06+/-0.09 to 0.95+/-0.09, p<0.001, r = - 0.34). The PTT remained constant. CONCLUSION: The antioxidant protection from the increased vitamin E was accompanied by a decreased expression of constitutive and function-dependent platelet adhesion molecules. However, increases in platelet-leukocyte coaggregates and a shortened INR time suggest extrinsic coagulation activation, possibly by induction of a leukocyte tissue factor dependent mechanism. High dose supplements of alpha-tocopherol may override the available redox balance in well controlled type 2 diabetes. However, intrinsic effects of alpha-tocopherol must be discussed.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether epinephrine exerts an effect on glycogen metabolism in nonexercising (Non-Ex) as well as in exercising (Ex) skeletal muscle. Rats ran (15 m/min; 8% grade) on their forelimbs while their hindlimbs (Non-Ex) were suspended above the treadmill. Electromyographic records confirmed the lack of significant contractile activity in muscles during suspension. Plasma epinephrine levels were manipulated in three experimental groups (n = 20 for each group): adrenalectomized (ADX), intact adrenals (IA), and IA + epinephrine injection (+Ep). Another group of rats performed normal exercise on all four limbs (15 m/min; 8% grade). Muscle glycogen levels were measured in selected hindlimb muscles at t = 0 and after 90 min exercise (15 m/min; 8% grade) or suspended rest. In the absence of epinephrine (ADX), no glycogen loss was found (P greater than 0.05) in Non-Ex muscles during the exercise period. In the IA group (epinephrine levels elevated sixfold above basal at t = 90 min), glycogen levels in the nonexercising soleus, plantaris, and red and white gastrocnemius were significantly (P less than 0.05) depleted to 62 +/- 6, 67 +/- 6, 58 +/- 5, and 67 +/- 9% of control values, respectively. Similar decrements occurred in these muscles when exercise was performed on all four limbs (P greater than 0.05). We conclude that glycogenolysis occurs in nonexercising skeletal muscle independent of contractile activity, probably due to the effect of epinephrine. Furthermore, the present data strongly suggest that glycogen depletion patterns in muscles during exercise cannot be used as an index of motor unit recruitment.  相似文献

L-arginine slows the development of atheromatous lesions, improves endothelium-dependent relaxation, and reduces the vascular superoxide anion production in hypercholesterolemic rabbits. These beneficial effects have been attributed to L-arginine-dependent formation of nitric oxide within the endothelial layer; a direct effect of L-arginine on other cells, however, has not been investigated. We hypothesised that in hypercholesterolemia L-arginine also specifically acts via a direct inhibitory effect on leukocytes, without affecting endothelial cells. The action of L-arginine was compared to vitamin E and the HMG CoA reductase inhibitor lovastatin which are known to attenuate progression of atherosclerosis. Rabbits were fed cholesterol enriched diet and from week five on lovastatin (10 mg/day), vitamin E (300 mg/d) or L-arginine (2% in drinking water) were given. After 16 weeks, blood cholesterol concentration was determined and leukocyte adhesion to cotton wool was measured. In order to exclude any endothelium-mediated effects an adhesion assay to endothelial cells was avoided. Cholesterol-enriched diet increased plasma cholesterol concentration (19+/-3 vs. 1427+/-117 mg/dl). Cholesterol levels were not affected by L-arginine (1344+/-163 mg/dl) or vitamine E (1312+/-243 mg/dl). Lovastatin treatment reduced cholesterol concentration by 35% as compared to the cholesterol group (899+/-51, p<0.05 vs. cholesterol). Cholesterol diet significantly increased leukocyte adhesion to cotton wool (16+/-3% vs 27+/-4%, p<0.05). Lovastatin or vitamine E had no effect on leukocyte adhesion (31+/-4%, 39+/-5), whereas L-arginine completely normalized adhesion (8.8+/-3%). CONCLUSION: Rabbits fed high cholesterol diet have increased leukocyte adhesion, which is not affected by lovastatin or vitamine E treatment, but prevented by L-arginine supplementation. A direct inhibitory effect of L-arginine on leukocyte adhesion may contribute to the beneficial effects observed with this substance.  相似文献
