Objectives:This study aimed to examine the efficacy of isometric knee extension and flexion peak torque and rate of torque development (RTD) variables to distinguish starters from non-starters in collegiate female soccer players.Methods:Eleven starters (20±2 years) and 13 non-starters (19±1 years) performed three isometric maximal voluntary contractions of the knee extensors and flexors. Peak torque, peak RTD, and RTD at 0-100 (RTD100) and 0-200 (RTD200) ms were obtained from each contraction.Results:The starters produced significantly greater (P=0.002-0.015) knee extension and flexion peak RTD, RTD100, and RTD200 values than the non-starters. There were no significant differences (P>0.050) between the starters and non-starters for peak torque. Discriminant analysis revealed thresholds of 9.36, 7.98, and 6.97 Nm⋅s-1⋅kg-1 for knee extension RTD200 and knee flexion peak RTD and RTD100, respectively. These thresholds showed 81.8% sensitivity and 76.9 to 92.3% specificity for identifying playing group membership.Conclusions:Our findings indicate that RTD may be a better parameter than peak torque at differentiating between playing level in collegiate female soccer players. The discriminant analysis thresholds for the RTD variables demonstrated good sensitivity and specificity, and therefore, may be used as indices to identify players with a high degree of soccer playing ability.  相似文献

Objectives:It is unclear whether peak torque and rate of torque development (RTD) measurements can characterize functional differences in older adults according to their performance on a six-minute walk test. This study aimed to examine the efficacy of isometric peak torque and RTD characteristics of the knee extensors to differentiate between functional status in older women who are able (higher functioning) versus those who are unable (lower functioning) to walk 550 m in six minutes.Methods:Ten higher functioning (67±4 years) and 10 lower functioning (68±4 years) older women performed three isometric knee extension maximal voluntary contractions followed by a six-minute walk test. Peak torque and early (RTD100), late (RTD200), and maximum (Peak RTD) RTD measurements were obtained from each contraction.Results:The higher functioning group exhibited greater peak torque, Peak RTD, RTD100, and RTD200 compared to the lower functioning group (P≤0.011), with larger differences occurring for RTD characteristics (39.9-54.9%) than peak torque (20.3%). Multiple regression analysis indicated that RTD200 was the single best predictor of the distance covered during the six-minute walk test (R2=0.437, P=0.002).Conclusions:These findings suggest that knee extensor muscle strength, and in particular RTD, may be an effective discriminator and predictor of walking performance ability in older women.  相似文献

We clarified the differences in root-tip diameter (RTD) among tree and shrub species in an Abies forest. To evaluate the effects of sampling month and tree size on RTD, we measured the root-tip diameters of mature individuals of nine woody species and sapling individuals of two Abies species in a subalpine Abies forest on Mount Shimagare in central Japan. Species, sampling month, and their interaction affected RTD; however, the differences in RTD between some pairs of species were consistent across sampling months. The woody species fell into two groups, based on RTD size: tree species with larger RTDs (group 1) and shrub species with smaller RTDs (group 2). Seasonal changes in RTD were observed in three species and showed different patterns among species. Tree size did not affect RTD for either Abies species; however, there was an interaction between tree size and sampling month for Abies veitchii. The woody species category had the greatest effect on RTD, followed by sampling month and then tree size.  相似文献

Rhesus theta-defensin 1 (RTD-1) is a unique tridisulfide, cyclic antimicrobial peptide formed by the ligation of two 9-residue sequences derived from heterodimeric splicing of similar 76-amino acid, alpha-defensin-related precursors, termed RTD1a and RTD1b (Tang, Y. Q., Yuan, J., Osapay, G., Osapay, K., Tran, D., Miller, C. J., Ouellette, A. J., and Selsted, M. E. (1999) Science 286, 498-502). The structures of RTD-2 and RTD-3 were predicted to exist if homodimeric splicing of the RTD1a and RTD1b occurs in vivo. Western blotting disclosed the presence of putative theta-defensins, distinct from RTD-1, in leukocyte extracts. Two new theta-defensins, RTD-2 and RTD-3, were purified by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography and characterized by amino acid analysis, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy, and comparison to the synthetic standards. RTD-2 and RTD-3 are the predicted homodimeric splicing products of RTD1b and RTD1a, respectively. The cellular abundances of RTD-1, -2, and -3 were 29:1:2, indicating that there is a preference for the heterodimeric ligation that generates RTD-1. RTD-1, -2, and -3 had similar antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus neoformans, whereas the activity of RTD-2 against Escherichia coli was 2-3-fold less than those of RTD-1 and RTD-3. Equal amounts of each theta-defensin bound to E. coli cells, indicating that the differences in antibacterial activities are the result of post-binding processes.  相似文献

应用肠杆菌科诊断噬菌体对2280株疑似志贺氏菌进行了检测,同时进行了常规鉴定。结果表明,志贺氏菌属Sh噬菌体103RTD对属内裂解率为100%,1RTD为99.9%;65株与志贺氏菌分型血清呈现凝集的非志贺氏菌,103RTD裂解率为12.3%,1RTD为4.6%。裂解模式的测定表明,2215株志贺氏菌分属于7个裂解模式,仅模式3中3株鲍氏5型为文献[2,3]所未列入,余者完全一致。Sh103RTD裂解的非志贺氏菌均可用1RTD和裂解模式排除  相似文献

We re-examined the relationship between rate of torque development (RTD) and maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) torque, and investigated some possible neuromuscular determinants of early (≤100 ms) and late (≥200 ms) RTD. Seventeen healthy men performed maximal explosive isometric knee extensions at five joint angles, from which MVC torque, RTD at different time intervals (50–250 ms), and early quadriceps EMG activity (EMG50) were evaluated. Quadriceps muscle thickness (MT) was quantified by longitudinal ultrasonography. The relationship between MVC torque, EMG50 and MT against RTD was assessed with Pearson’s and repeated measures correlation coefficients. Moderate-to-strong correlation coefficients were observed between MVC torque and RTD (r = 0.50–0.88, p < 0.001), with stronger relationships for late RTD than for early RTD. Weak-to-strong correlation coefficients were observed amongst RTD and EMG50 (r = 0.37–0.83, p < 0.001), with stronger relationships for early RTD than for late RTD. Only late RTD was significantly correlated with MT, though only moderately (r = 0.50–0.52, p < 0.05). These findings suggest that early and late knee extension RTD are potentially governed by different neuromuscular factors. Neuromuscular activation seems to have a greater influence on early RTD than on late RTD, and vice versa for muscle mass.  相似文献

2545 strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from 24 Polish laboratories in the years 1994-95 were investigated. Phage typing was performed according to the method of Blair and Williams using the present basic set of typing phages and additional phages 88, 89 and 187. The phages were employed in concentrations of RTD and 100 x RTD. The predominance of phage group II, reported elsewhere since 1980-ties, was found in the present study (23.6%). Strains of group III were second in frequency (16.6%), whereas strains of groups I and V, as well as type 95 occurred in small percentage (7.6%, 4% and 3.4% respectively). Strains of groups II and V have been rarely lysed by phages belonging to other groups. The use of additional phages resulted in typability of strains by 7.9%. Percentage of non-typable strains was high and amounted to 22.0%.  相似文献

Aims

Root tissue density (RTD, the ratio of root dry mass to root volume) is a fundamental trait in comparative root ecology, being increasingly used as an indicator of plant species’ resource use strategy. However, the lack of standardized method to measure this trait makes comparisons tricky. This study aims to compare three methods commonly used for determining fine RTD and to test whether root dry matter content (RDMC, the ratio between root dry mass and root fresh mass) could be used as a surrogate of fine root tissue density.

Methods

RTD of 163 fine root samples was determined using (i) Archimedes’ method, (ii) image analysis (WinRHIZO software), and (iii) using the root dry matter content as a proxy. Root samples belonged to different herbaceous species grown in different conditions.

Results

RTD measured with Archimedes’ method was positively correlated with RTD estimated with image analysis and with RDMC. However we demonstrated that RTD measured with Archimedes’ method was better predicted by RDMC (R2?=?0.90) than by RTD measured with image analysis (R2?=?0.56). The performance and limitations of each method were discussed.

Conclusion

RDMC is a quick, cheap and relatively easy measurable root attribute; we thus recommended its measurement as a proxy of fine root tissue density.  相似文献

Rice tungro disease (RTD), caused by the co-infection of rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) and rice tungro spherical virus, is one of the most important viral diseases of rice in South and Southeast Asia. The disease remains one of the major threats to sustainable rice production in many countries. The lack of resistance genes to RTBV—the causal agent of tungro disease—makes it even more difficult to manage RTD. In this review, we summarize previous and current research efforts to genetically engineer rice in order to increase the crop’s resistance to tungro disease, including the use of pathogen-derived resistance and of host genes that confer RTD resistance and/or that restrict feeding by the insect vector. The prospects of developing rice cultivars with durable resistance to RTD are also discussed.  相似文献

We studied the effect of pennate vs. fusiform muscle architecture on the rate of torque development (RTD) by examining the predominately fusiform elbow flexors (EF) and highly-pennate knee extensors (KE). Seventeen male volunteers (28.4 ± 6.2 years) performed explosive isometric EF and KE contractions (MVCs). Biceps brachii and vastus lateralis fascicle angles were measured to confirm their architecture, and both the rate of voluntary muscle activation (root-mean-square EMG in the 50 ms before contraction onset; EMG-50) and electromechanical delay (EMD; depicting muscle-tendon series elasticity) were assessed as control variables to account for their influence on RTD. MVC torque, early (RTD50) and late (RTD200) RTDs were calculated and expressed as absolute and normalized values. Absolute MVC torque (+412%), RTD50 (+215%), and RTD200 (+427%) were significantly (p < 0.001) higher in KE than EF. However, EF RTD50 was faster (+178%) than KE after normalization (p = 0.02). EMG-50 and EMD did not differ between muscle groups. The results suggest that the faster absolute RTD in KE is largely associated with its higher maximal torque capacity, however in the absence of differences in rates of muscle activation, fiber type, and EMD the fusiform architecture of EF may be considered a factor allowing its faster early RTD relative to strength capacity.  相似文献

细根作为植物吸收养分和水分的主要器官,其功能性状对森林生态系统功能具有重要影响。以武夷山黄山松为研究对象,通过对不同季节(春季、夏季、秋季和冬季)和不同海拔(1200、1400、1600、1800 m和2000 m)的黄山松细根的功能性状的测定,分析其细根性状特征随海拔和季节变化的规律。结果表明:(1)黄山松细根比根长(SRL),比根面积(SRA)均随海拔先升高后降低,其均值分别为(9.32±0.35) cm/g与(276.41±68.10) cm~2/g;根组织密度(RTD)随海拔先降低后升高,均值为(0.16±0.05) g/cm~3。根平均直径(AvgDiam)随海拔增加变化不显著,均值为(0.097±0.004) mm。SRL和SRA在海拔1600 m处达到最大,而RTD和AvgDiam的最大值出现在海拔1800 m或2000 m处。(2)SRL和SRA在夏季或秋季达到最大,RTD和AvgDiam最大值则出现在冬季或春季。季节和海拔对各细根性状都有显著影响(P0.01),但季节与海拔对根性状并没有产生显著的交互作用(P0.05)。(3)SRL与SRA间的异速生长指数是1.25,显著大于1.0(P0.01);SRL与RTD存在负等速生长关系,而与AvgDiam存在显著负异速生长关系(P0.01);SRA与RTD,以及RTD与AvgDiam间均存在显著负异速生长关系(P0.01),但SRA与AvgDiam之间不存在异速生长关系。黄山松的细根性状在1600 m处倾向于增加比根长和比根面积,而在海拔1800 m或2000 m处则倾向于增加组织密度与根直径,这与黄山松细根性状从夏秋到冬春的季节变化规律相类似。同时,相对于比根面积来说,黄山松的细根在海拔1600 m处和夏秋季节更倾向于投资比根长来增加养分的吸收。  相似文献

In response to the biopharmaceutical industry advancing from traditional batch operation to continuous operation, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a draft for continuous integrated biomanufacturing. This draft outlines the most important rules for establishing continuous integration. One of these rules is a thorough understanding of mass flows in the process. A computer simulation framework is developed for modeling the residence time distribution (RTD) of integrated continuous downstream processes based on a unit‐by‐unit modeling approach in which unit operations are simulated one‐by‐one across the entire processing time, and then combined into an integrated RTD model. The framework allows for easy addition or replacement of new unit operations, as well as quick adjustment of process parameters during evaluation of the RTD model. With this RTD model, the start‐up phase to reach steady state can be accelerated, the effects of process disturbances at any stage of the process can be calculated, and virtual tracking of a section of the inlet material throughout the process is possible. A hypothetical biomanufacturing process for an antibody was chosen for showcasing the RTD modeling approach.  相似文献

This study reveals that residence time distribution (RTD) analysis with pH monitoring after acid bolus injection can be used to globally study the flow dynamics of a perfusion bioreactor, while fluorescence microscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were used to locally investigate mass transport within a hydrogel scaffold seeded or not with cells. The bioreactor used in this study is a close‐loop tubular reactor. A dispersion model in one dimension has been used to describe the non‐ideal behavior of the reactor. From open‐loop experiments (single‐cycle analysis), the presence of stagnant zones and back mixing were observed. The impact of the flow rate, the compliance chamber volume and mixing were investigated. Intermediate flows (30, 45, 60, and 90 mL min−1) had no effect over RTD function expressed in reduced time (θ). Lower flow rates (5 and 15 mL min−1) were associated to smaller extent of dispersion. The compliance chamber volume greatly affected the dynamics of the RTD function, while the effects of mixing and flow were small to non‐significant. An empirical equation has been proposed to localize minima of the RTD function and to predict Per. Finally, cells seeded in a gelatin gel at a density of 800,000 cells mL−1 had no effect over the permeability and the apparent diffusion coefficient, as revealed by fluorescent microscopy and MRI experiments. Renal tubular dysgenesis (RTD), a rare, lethal, autosomal recessive disorder, is characterized by short and poorly differentiated proximal tubules and associated with hypoplastic calvaria. We report two cases of RTD with hypoplasia of the calvaria. Microscopically, proximal tubules in the kidneys were not seen on routine H&E stain. Almost all tubules in the cortex were stained for epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), confirming the absence of proximal tubule differentiation. The autopsy findings, microscopic features and the etiology of this rare condition is discussed and compared with literature data.  相似文献

BackgroundMost studies focus on the effects of a single remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) session on performance. However, the training-like effect of repeat RIPC sessions performed on consecutive days could potentially be even more beneficial to neuromuscular performance than a single RIPC session. Therefore, aim of the study was to assess the impact of 10 days of RIPC on local neuromuscular performance.MethodsThirty-seven male participants performed 10 days of either RIPC or sham-controlled condition. Before and after procedure, the maximal voluntary contraction and muscle fatigue were assessed by dynamometry and surface electromyography (EMG) of the isometric extension of the knee joint. The following neuromuscular outcomes were investigated: peak torque (PKTQ); rate of force development (RTD); time to failure; and the slope of median frequency of power spectrum (MDF) and EMG amplitude.ResultsAfter RIPC, while there was no change in PKTQ and time to failure, the late RTD and MDF slope were significantly affected. The RTD at 0–100 and 0–200 ms showed 24 and 16% increase, respectively, while the MDF slope showed 24% decrease in rectus femoris.Conclusions10 days of RIPC induced neuromuscular performance changes in the quadriceps muscle. Even though there were no changes in task to failure performance, RIPC showed EMG changes limited to rectus femoris and increased late RTD in MVC task.  相似文献

A comparative investigation was carried out on the reproducibility of staphylococcal bacteriophage types at 100 routine test dilution (RTD) and at the conventional concentrations, RTD and 1,000 RTD. The comparison includes multiple typing of laboratory strains and duplicate isolates from hospital patients. No significant difference was found in the reproducibility of the types at the different concentrations. A single concentration corresponding to 100 RTD is recommended for routine use in phage typing as a possible substitute for typing with two different concentrations.  相似文献

The air pollutant ozone can be used as a tool to unravel in planta processes induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Here, we have utilized ozone to study ROS‐dependent stomatal signaling. We show that the ozone‐triggered rapid transient decrease (RTD) in stomatal conductance coincided with a burst of ROS in guard cells. RTD was present in 11 different Arabidopsis ecotypes, suggesting that it is a genetically robust response. To study which signaling components or ion channels were involved in RTD, we tested 44 mutants deficient in various aspects of stomatal function. This revealed that the SLAC1 protein, essential for guard cell plasma membrane S‐type anion channel function, and the protein kinase OST1 were required for the ROS‐induced fast stomatal closure. We showed a physical interaction between OST1 and SLAC1, and provide evidence that SLAC1 is phosphorylated by OST1. Phosphoproteomic experiments indicated that OST1 phosphorylated multiple amino acids in the N terminus of SLAC1. Using TILLING we identified three new slac1 alleles where predicted phosphosites were mutated. The lack of RTD in two of them, slac1‐7 (S120F) and slac1‐8 (S146F), suggested that these serine residues were important for the activation of SLAC1. Mass‐spectrometry analysis combined with site‐directed mutagenesis and phosphorylation assays, however, showed that only S120 was a specific phosphorylation site for OST1. The absence of the RTD in the dominant‐negative mutants abi1‐1 and abi2‐1 also suggested a regulatory role for the protein phosphatases ABI1 and ABI2 in the ROS‐induced activation of the S‐type anion channel.  相似文献

Isometric force- or torque-time parameters are commonly reported in the research literature. The processing methods of the electronic dynamometer-derived signal may influence the outcome measures. This study determined the influence of filtering and sample rate (SR) on isometric torque-time parameters and provides specific signal processing recommendations for future studies. Twenty-three subjects performed 49 isometric maximum voluntary contractions (MVCs) of the knee extensors on an isokinetic dynamometer. Outcome measures included peak torque (PT), and rate of torque development at peak (RTDPEAK), 50 (RTD50) and 200 (RTD200) ms for seven filter conditions including low-pass filter cutoffs at 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 150 Hz and a notch filter at 100 and 200 Hz. Comparisons were also made across four SR conditions at 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz. The RTDPEAK variable was markedly changed (−5.4 to −37.9%) for all filter frequencies compared to the 150 Hz condition and the RTD50 variable was altered for all frequencies between 50 and 5 Hz. No differences were found for RTD200. For SR, compared to the 2000 Hz condition, differences were revealed for the 100 Hz condition for the RTDPEAK and RTD50 variables. The filtering or SR did not alter PT across any of the conditions. The filter and SR applied to the signal was capable of distorting the MVC signal and skewing the torque–time parameters, specifically for the early and maximum RTD variables of the MVC curve (RTD50 and RTDPEAK). For traditional isokinetic dynamometers, a low-pass filter cutoff of 150 Hz and a SR of at least 1000 Hz is recommended when assessing early isometric force- or torque-time MVC parameters.  相似文献

We developed a sensitive assay for ritodrine (RTD), a beta2-adrenergic agonist, in human serum. This method was based upon the selective and sensitive technique by a tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) using a hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) technique. This method involved a mixed-mode cation-exchange solid-phase extraction of RTD and isoxsuprine, the internal standard (IS), from serum with Waters Oasis MCX cartridges. The detection was made using a Micromass Quattromicro API LC-MS/MS system with electrospray ionization source in positive ion mode. The separation of the analytes was achieved within 4 min on a silica column with a mobile phase of ammonium acetate (10 mM, pH 4.5) and acetonitrile (10:90, v/v). Multiple reaction monitoring was utilized by monitoring 288.2-->121.1 for RTD, 302.2-->107.0 for IS. The calibration curve for RTD was linear over a range of 0.5-1000 ng/mL. When 50 microL serum was used for extraction, the lower limit of quantification was 0.39 ng/mL (97.5 fg on-column). The percent coefficient of validation for accuracy and precision (inter- and intra-day) was less than 9.8% and the recovery was ranged from 83.5 to 94.7% for RTD. This method enabled us to successfully determine RTD in maternal and fetal sera.  相似文献

Aridity is an important environmental filter in the assembly of plant communities worldwide. The extent to which root traits mediate responses to aridity, and how they are coordinated with leaf traits, remains unclear. Here, we measured variation in root tissue density (RTD), specific root length (SRL), specific leaf area (SLA), and seed size within and among thirty perennial grass communities distributed along an aridity gradient spanning 190–540 mm of climatic water deficit (potential minus actual evapotranspiration). We tested the hypotheses that traits exhibited coordinated variation (1) among species, as well as (2) among communities varying in aridity, and (3) functional diversity within communities declines with increasing aridity, consistent with the “stress-dominance” hypothesis. Across communities, SLA and RTD exhibited a coordinated response to aridity, shifting toward more conservative (lower SLA, higher RTD) functional strategies with increasing aridity. The response of SRL to aridity was more idiosyncratic and was independent of variation in SLA and RTD. Contrary to the stress-dominance hypothesis, the diversity of SRL values within communities increased with aridity, while none of the other traits exhibited significant diversity responses. These results are consistent with other studies that have found SRL to be independent of an SLA–RTD axis of functional variation and suggest that the dynamic nature of soil moisture in arid environments may facilitate a wider array of resource capture strategies associated with variation in SRL.  相似文献
