Cricotopus (Cricotopus) nevadensis sp. n. (Diptera,Chironomidae) from Sierra Nevada (southern Spain)

Male and female imagines, and pupal exuviae of Cricotopus (C.) nevadensis sp. n. are described. A discussion on the systematic position, a differential diagnosis and notes on the ecology of this new species are given.     

1061. Lunaria annua subsp. pachyrrhiza (Borb as) Maire & Petitm.,: Cruciferae (Brassicaceae)

Lunaria annua is overviewed and its two subspecies, subsp. annua and subsp. pachyrrhiza, discussed, the latter described. Two cultivars of subsp. pachyrrhiza, ‘Corfu Blue’ and ‘Mistras’ are illustrated and described. Details of cultivation are also included.     

Three new mermithids (Nematoda) from Guatemalan blackflies (Diptera: Simuliidae)

Summary The following new species of Mermithidae (Nematoda) are described from Guatemalan blackflies: (a) Gastromermis cloacachilus from Gigantodax wrighti; (b) Isomernis vulvachila from Cnephia pacheco-lunai and (c) Mesomermis guatemalae from Simulium metallicum. All parasites were collected at Encuentros (Department of Totonicapan) in Guatemala. These are the first representatives of Gastromermis and Mesomermis from Central America and M. guatemalae represents the second mermithid species to be described from an American vector of Onchocerca volvulus, causal agent of river blindness. ac]19800728     

Moina oryzae n. sp. (Cladocera,Moinidae) from Tamil Nadu (South India)

Moina oryzae n. sp., from a rice field in South India, is described. The species is related toMoina reticulata Daday, 1905, and toMoina minuta Hansen, 1899. The parthenogenetic and sexual females and male are described. A differential diagnosis is given.     

Five Simuliidae (Diptera) from West Cameroon

The male, female, pupa and larva of a new phoretic species of Simulium are described. A new species-group is established for this species and S.diceros, and its systematic position is discussed. Two other new species of Simulium are described from pupal material, and new forms of S.palmeri and S.berghei are recorded.     

The haemoproteids of the avian families Eurylaimidae (broadbills) and Pittidae (pittas)

The haemoproteids of the avian suboscine families Eurylaimidae and Pittidae are reviewed. Haemoproteus eurylaimus n. sp. and H. pittae n. sp. are described.     

Descriptions of oriental Perlini (Plecoptera: Perlidae)

Three new species of Oriental Perlini are described and Agnetina aequalis (Banks) and A. quadrituberculata (Wu) are redescribed. Agnetina jarai sp. n. (Vietnam), Togoperla shan sp. n. (Thailand), and Tyloperla schmidi sp. n. (Assam), are described, compared with related congeners, and male holotypes are designated for each species.     

A taxonomic review of Phlebotomus (Idiophlebotomus) (Psychodidae)

Five known species (asperulus Quate & Fairchild, erebicolus Quate, pholetor Quate & Fairchild, sejunctus Quate, and stellae Quate) of the caverni-colous subgenus Phlebotomus (Idiophlebotomus) are discussed in relation to newly recognized species from West Malaysia and India. P. frondifer n.sp. and P. tubifer n.sp. are described and a key to the adults of all seven species is given. General features of the subgenus are discussed, with particular reference to the functional relationships between the specialized morphology of the mouthparts and the probable bat hosts of these species.     

The helix-coil transitions of poly (dA)-poly (dT) and poly (dA-dT)-poly (dA-dT)

Helix–coil transition curves are calculated for poly (dA) poly(dT) and poly (dA-dT) poly (dA-dT) using the integral equation approach of Goel and Montroll.⁵ The transitions are described by the loop entropy model with the exponent of the loop entropy factor, k, remaining an arbitrary constant. The theoretical calculations are compared with experimental transition curves of the two polymers. Results indicate that the stacking energies for these two polymers differ by about 1 kcal/mole of base pairs. Also, a fit between theory and experiment was not possible for k > 1.70.     

The Miocene Architectonicidae (Gastropoda) of Chile

Three new species of Architectonicidae Heliacinae,Heliacus (Torinista) chonos, Heliacus (Grandeliacus) antu andSolatisonax bieleri, are described. These include the first reports ofGrandeliacus andSolatisonax from Chile.Solarium australe Philippi, 1887 is an earlier name forHeliacus (Torinista) bahamondei Frassinetti & Covacevich, 1981, but is a junior homonym ofS. australe Philippi, 1849. Type material and new specimens of the five previously described architectonicid species from Chile are described and figured for comparison. Together with other gastropod taxa from the same deposits, Architectonicidae provide evidence for tropical to subtropical water temperatures in central Chile during the early Miocene.     

Immature Stages of Hydrobiomorpha spinosa (Orchymont, 1928) (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

The preimaginal stages of the Neotropical species Hydrobiomorpha spinosa (Orchymont) are described and figured for the first time. They are compared to the larvae of the New World species Hydrobiomorpha casta (Say) and to unidentified African and Australian larvae. Bionomical notes on this species are included.     

Lorilichus,a new genus of feather mites (Acarina,Pterolichidae) from lories and lorikeets (Aves,Psittacidae)

Lorilichus n. g. (Pterolichidae, Pterolichinae) is restricted to the Indo-Australian parrots of the family Loriidae. Assigned to this new genus are Pterolichus (Pseudalloptes) species described by Trouessart in 1884, namely, lobiger (type-species), delibativentris, discifer, cultriventris, emargiventris and securiventris. The first three named species are illustrated and two new species, parvifolius and grandifolius, are described: the five species are from Lorius domicellus (L.).     

New species ofBeaufortia andChamaelaucium (Myrtaceae),Drosera (Droseraceae) andPultenaea (Fabaceae) from SW. Australia

Four new species of the generaBeaufortia, Chamaelaucium, Drosera, andPultenaea are described based on the author's collections from SW. Australia. Their affinities are discussed and full illustrations are provided.Dedicated to Hofrat Univ.-Prof.K. H. Rechinger on the occasion of his 80th birthday.     

Two new lacewings (Neuroptera) from the Upper Jurassic locality Shar-Teg (Mongolia)

Two new lacewing species, Prohemerobius minor sp. nov. (Prohemerobiidae) and Sogjuta shartegica sp. nov. (Osmylidae), are described from Upper Jurassic deposits of the Mongolian locality Shar-Teg.     

MOSQUITO POLLINATION OF HABENARIA OBTUSATA (ORCHIDACEAE)

The floral morphology and pollination of Habenaria obtusata (Orchidaceae) are described. Habenaria obtusata occurs in Alaska, Canada, Norway, Siberia, etc., in great numbers and is pollinated by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes. The pollination process is described as observed in glass cages.     

Cytogenetic studies of cultivatedCrocus sativus (Iridaceae)

Meiosis and mitosis are described in cultivatedCrocus sativus of Iran. This indicates that this species is an autotriploid and sterile. Karyotype analysis, rare inversions, laggard chromosomes and distribution of chromosomes in the first anaphase are described, and the reasons for its sterility are given.     

A new species of Centaurea (Asteraceae) from Calabria (S Italy)

A new species is described here from the Presila in Calabria (S Italy) and named Centaurea calabra. It belongs to Centaurea sect. Phalolepis and is related to the C. deusta group, namely to C. sarfattiana. Taxonomical characteristics, distribution, and ecology of the new Centaurea are also provided.     

Mesozoic Trachypachidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) from China

Abstract: Four well‐preserved beetles, attributed to Eodromeinae within Trachypachidae, are described from the Mesozoic of Inner Mongolia, China. Eodromeus robustus sp. nov., E. daohugouensis sp. nov. and Unda chifengensis sp. nov. are from the Middle Jurassic of Daohugou. The diagnostic characters for the two genera are revised, and all species of these genera are keyed. A new genus and species, Sinodromeus liutiaogouensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is described from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Liutiaogou. The current fossil records of Trachypachidae from China are reviewed, and only five species (four described here) can be convincingly attributed to this family. The morphological disparity of Mesozoic Eodromeinae suggests that they evolved a broad spectrum of locomotory lifestyles.     

Some Iranian Acridoidea (Orthoptera)

The hitherto unknown males of Paregnatius salavatiani, Paraconophyma pusilla, Wiltshirella fusiformis and Lyrotyloides viridis are described, and a new genus of Egnatiinae is erected for P. pusilla.
